Abstract

In this work, we propose a new multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) concept, which is called coordinate interleaved orthogonal design with media-based modulation (CIOD-MBM). The proposed two novel CIOD-MBM schemes provide improved data rates as well as diversity gain while enabling hardware simplicity using a single radio frequency (RF) chain. Moreover, using the equivalent channel model, a reduced complexity can be obtained for maximum likelihood (ML) detection of the proposed system. Using computer simulations, it is shown that CIOD-MBM schemes provide remarkably better performance against the conventional MBM and CIOD systems.

Abstract

Free space optical (FSO) communication has emerged to provide line of sight connectivity and higher throughput over unlicensed optical spectrums. Cognitive radio (CR), on the other hand, can utilize the radio frequency (RF) spectrum and allow a secondary user (SU) to share the same spectrum with the primary user (PU) as long as the SU does not impose interference on the PU. Abstract

In this paper, the transmit antenna selection technique is proposed to be applied to a serial concatenation scheme of low-density parity-check (LDPC) and space-time trellis codes (STTC) and the frame error rate performance of this scheme is analyzed over quasi-static, block, and fast Rayleigh fading channels by computer simulations. It is shown that transmit antenna selection further improves the performance of the serial concatenation of LDPC and STTC. In particular, transmit antenna selection provides diversity gain over quasistatic and block fading channels and only coding gain over fast fading channels. It is also shown that diversity gain over fast and block fading channels is improved by increasing the number of LDPC decoding iterations. IEEE
