Abstract

The formation of hadrons is a fundamental process in nature that can be investigated at particle colliders. As several recent findings demonstrate, with $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ collisions as a "vacuum-like" reference at one extreme, and central nucleus--nucleus as a dense, extended-size system characterized by flow and local equilibrium at the opposite extreme, different collision systems offer a lever arm that can be exploited to probe with a range of heavy-flavour hadron species the onset of various hadronization processes. In this review, we present an overview of the theoretical and experimental developments. The focus is on open-heavy-flavour measurements. The comparison with model predictions and connections among the results in electron-positron, proton--proton, proton--nucleus, nucleus--nucleus collisions are discussed. 17 juni 2022, Contains fulltext : 252380.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access), In our paper "Evaluating expert-based habitat suitability information of terrestrial mammals with GPS-tracking data" (Global Ecology and Biogeography) we use GPS tracking data from 1,498 from 49 different species to evaluate the expert-based habitat suitability data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Therefore, we used the GPS tracking data to estimate two measures of habitat suitability for each individual animal and habitat type: proportional habitat use (proportion of GPS locations within a habitat type), and selection ratio (habitat use relative to its availability). For each individual we then evaluated whether the GPS-based habitat suitability measures were in agreement with the IUCN data. To that end, we calculated the probability that the ranking of empirical habitat suitability measures was in agreement with IUCN’s classification into suitable, marginal and unsuitable habitat types. Our results showed that IUCN habitat suitability data were in accordance with the GPS data (>95% probability of agreement) for 33 out of 49 species based on proportional habitat use estimates and for 25 out of 49 species based on selection ratios. In addition, 37 and 34 species had a >50% probability of agreement based on proportional habitat use and selection ratios, respectively. These findings indicate that for the majority of species included in this study, it is appropriate to use IUCN habitat suitability data in macroecological studies. Furthermore, our study shows that GPS tracking data can be used to identify and prioritize species and habitat types for re-evaluation of IUCN habitat suitability data. In this dataset we provide the measures of habitat suitability for each individual and each habitat type, calculated using different methods. In addition, we provide data on the body mass and IUCN Red List category of the species, as well as whether the species can be considered a habitat specialist or habitat generalist.

Abstract

The ultimate goal of the architecture work package of BASMATI is to ensure that all consortium members have a common vision of the global architecture of the system and that all developers are aware of the interfaces exported by any architecture component to others. This deliverable defines the architecture of the BASMATI platform. Overall, the objective of the BASMATI project is to design, implement and evaluate a dynamic and integrated brokerage platform targeting federated clouds that supports the dynamic needs of mobile applications and users. To this end, the BASMATI architecture provides a common ground to address key technological and research challenges in different research fields. These challenges mainly focus on three core aspects: (i) User, application and situation modelling and understanding to drive application placement; (ii) Runtime adaptivity and reconfiguration; (iii) Brokering and Offloading of application and services. The resulting architecture is divided into layers, which stem from several choices taken at design time. The first choice is the separation in the management of those services that natively run on the server side from those that run on a client device. The second choice is to separate the computational plane (how computation is organized, what are the functional dependencies from the services composing the application) from the data plane, in order to foster advanced computation and data orchestration techniques. The last, and probably the most important choice, is the definition of a specific application model (which we refer to as BEAM) that encompasses all the many views of the application within the platform. Finally, the architecture defined in this document has also been designed to support the requirements identified at the beginning of the project, from the use cases, in accordance with both the joint Korean and European use cases' needs. Abstract

This deliverable examines the state-of-the-art solutions, both focusing on the scientific literature and on the existing, cutting-edge, technologies that relate to the activities that will be conducted in BASMATI project. Along with the presentation and discussion of the existing approaches and solutions, this report describes possible future trends and presents the project requirement analysis, both the one considering the use cases technical requirements as well as taking into account the technology insight coming both from linked research initiatives and interactions with innovation experts. This document is essentially aimed at a first snapshot resulting from the activity aimed at the identification of research paths and potentially useful approaches. The idea for this report was to comprise a "live document", continuously updated by the consortium members. Changes were incorporated during the first year with the purpose to include new interesting technologies and solutions that were proposed and released. In fact, during the whole course of the project, the technologies and requirements related to BASMATI will continue being investigated in order to ensure that the objectives and innovations of the project are valid, work is performed taking into account the latest state-of-the-art and developments fulfill the identified goals and requirements. However, this stable version of the document will serve as a guide for the baseline technologies and initial requirements upon which BASMATI builds. As such the report comprises a central document that drives the project processes and it is directly linked to the project vision implementation.

Although mobile devices became more powerful and sophisticated over the last decade, enabling rich-multimedia services, resource constraints still hinder today's mobile applications from reaching their potential. To address this, this work aims at delivering an architecture that supports changing needs of mobile users through an end-to-end approach. The outcomes are sets of requirements, each representing a set of prioritized platform functionalities, and the BASMATI architecture that integrates the sets.
