Aim: To assess the mediating role of emotion regulation and emotional intelligence in the relationship between stress and academic engagement among Saudi undergraduate nursing students. Design: This study employed a quantitative cross‐sectional research design. Methods: The study recruited 367 Saudi undergraduate nursing students at a major Saudi university. Structural equation modelling was used to explore the mediational model. Results: The results of the ANOVA and Welch F‐test demonstrated that the emotional intelligence, emotional regulation and academic engagement scores were statistically significantly different according to stress levels (p‐values <0.01). Perceived stress has a statistically significant moderate negative correlation with academic engagement and emotional intelligence and a strong negative correlation with emotional regulation. The results also showed that academic engagement had a statistically significant moderate positive association with emotional intelligence and emotional regulation. Results indicate that stress and academic engagement are negatively correlated among Saudi undergraduate nursing students. It focuses on the balancing functions of emotional regulation and emotional intelligence, highlighting their ability to lower stress levels and improve academic engagement. Aim: This study aims at exploring Saudi newly graduated nurses' perspectives on the facilitators and barriers for successful transition from being a student to being a nurse. Design: A phenomenological qualitative methodology was employed. Methods: Focus group discussions were carried out among 35 Saudi nurses at one major university hospital in Saudi Arabia. Results: Under the theme of barriers to transition three main subthemes emerged, namely "Fear of making medical errors," "Intense Workload and Expectations," "Bullying and lack of support," while under the facilitators of transition the subthemes which emerged were "Supportive preceptor," "Training workshops," "Need for transition programs." This research found that formal and informal techniques for strengthening institutional variables and improving individual factors are critical for new graduate nurses' effective transition into professional responsibilities. Background: Simulation‐based learning is a modern educational approach that allows students to recognize and practice what they've learned. Self‐efficacy and perceived clinical competence allow nursing students to attain higher levels of performance and consequently higher quality of rendered care. Methods: This study employed a quantitative cross‐sectional research design recruiting 302 Lebanese and Saudi senior nursing students. Results: The results have displayed moderately high levels of self‐efficacy and perceived clinical competence among students who took part in simulation‐based learning, where Saudi students presented higher perceived competence. A significant correlation was found between the variables where self‐efficacy was a predictor of perceived clinical competence. Conclusions: Lebanese and Saudi nursing seniors students who took part in simulation‐based learning experiences had notable scores of self‐efficacy and clinical competence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To report experience with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in obese, morbidly obese, and super morbid obese patients, and to evaluate comparative efficacy of LSG among these patient groups., Methods: A total of 147 patients underwent LSG between March 2008 and December 2011 at the Department of Surgery, King Saud Medical City, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Patients were grouped according to the preoperative body mass index (BMI) into obese (35-39.9 kg/m2), morbidly obese (40-49.9 kg/m2), and super morbid obese (>50 kg/m2). Patients who did not have a regular follow-up (n=38) were excluded, and 108 patients were included in this prospective study., Results: The mean total weight loss (TWL) among the super morbid obese group (41.31 +/- 21.23 kg) was statistically significantly greater compared to the obese group (24.31 +/- 13.00 kg, p=0.009) and morbidly obese group (26.81 +/- 15.56 kg, p=0.001). The mean percentage excess weight loss (EWL) was clinically significant among obese (57.8%), morbidly obese (42.5%), and super morbid obese patients (45.7%), however, it was not statistically significant between the groups (F[2,105]=2.132, p=0.124). There was no mortality; however, 6 major complications occurred including intra-abdominal collection with suspected leak, staple line bleeding, bowel ischemia, and inferior vena cava injury., Conclusion: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy resulted in satisfactory and effective EWL in all 3 groups of obesity patients at 30-months follow-up.
