Background People with epilepsy and mild intellectual disability have a limited adaptive capacity resulting in difficulties in communication and social skills. Virtual Reality (VR) has the potential to help this group of people to learn how to manage difficult situations. SEIN (Expertise Center for Epilepsy) provides training to the residents to improve their social and communication skills. The purpose of the exploratory study was to establish whether VR could be a suitable digital means to provide a more efficient blended training. Methods Online interviews were conducted with healthcare professionals from SEIN: two coordinators, three psychologists and two coaches. The participants were asked about their ideas for improving the social skills of the residents and their view on using VR to do so. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis approach. In addition, observations were conducted during a training session to get a realistic sense of its process and contents. Observations were noted in a logbook. Findings The participants are positive to use VR in the training but point out that it is not suitable for all the residents. VR glasses were ruled out because it put the resident alone in a virtual setting. VR with a tablet is preferred to allow the residents and the healthcare professional to simultaneously view 3D simulated situations and allowing opportunities to talk about it. The development of VR contents and simulations using tablet will need to take into account relevant VR guidelines dedicated to people with epilepsy. Appropriate training for the healthcare professionals also needs to be provided. Conclusions The use of Virtual Reality in training programs to improve communication and social skills of adults with intellectual disabilities and epilepsy is promising, We advocate to utilize user-centered design and co-creation approaches with all concerned parties for further development of tablet-based VR solutions

Behaviour Change Support Systems (BCSS), already running for the 10th time at Persuasive Technology, is a workshop that builds around the concept of systems that are specifically designed to help and support behaviour change in individuals or groups. The highly multi-disciplinary nature of designing and implementing behaviour change strategies and systems for the strategies has been in the forefront of this workshop from the very beginning. The persuasive technology field is becoming a linking pin connecting natural and social sciences, requiring a holistic view on persuasive technologies, as well as multi-disciplinary approach for design, implementation, and evaluation. So far, the capacities of technologies to change behaviours and to continuously monitor the progress and effects of interventions are not being used to its full potential. The use of technologies as persuaders may shed a new light on the interaction process of persuasion, influencing attitudes and behaviours. Yet, although human- computer interaction is social in nature and people often do see computers as social actors, it is still unknown how these interactions re-shape attitude, beliefs, and emotions, or how they change behaviour, and what the drawbacks are for persuasion via technologies. Humans re-shape technology, changing their goals during usage. This means that persuasion is not a static ad hoc event but an ongoing process. Technology has the capacity to create smart (virtual) persuasive environments that provide simultaneously multimodal cues and psycho-physiological feedback for personal change by strengthening emotional, social, and physical presence. An array of persuasive applications has been developed over the past decade with an aim to induce desirable behaviour change. Persuasive applications have shown promising results in motivating and supporting people to change or adopt new behaviours and attitudes in various domains such as health and wellbeing, sustainable energy, education, and marketing. This workshop aims at connecting multidisciplinary researchers, practitioners and experts from a variety of scientific domains, such as information sciences, human-computer interaction, industrial design, psychology and medicine. This interactive workshop will act as a forum where experts from multiple disciplines can present their work, and can discuss and debate the pillars for persuasive technology.

Persuasive design in the context of home rehabilitation of the elder-ly has been applied. Developing various prototypes based on persuasive fea-tures and behavioral changes helps to tune to more personalized solutions and serves as a valuable tool for implementing blended care in the practice.

Methods: Nurses were recruited from the psychogeriatric and somatic ward of five nursing homes in the Netherlands, from September to December 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, semi-structured interviews were held with twenty nurses via Microsoft Teams. The intra-oral camera was demonstrated in an online video. The topic list was based on the Technology Acceptance Model (Davis, 1985) and reviewed by an expert group. The topics include: the use of e-health; current oral health care; collaboration with oral-health professionals; nurses’ acceptance of the intra-oral camera and expected acceptance of nursing-home residents. Each interview lasted approximately 45 minutes and was recorded. The data was transcribed verbatim in MaxQDA2020 and analyzed using the Grounded Theory approach. Results: In total twenty nurses were interviewed. The majority of respondents were willing to try the intraoral camera when implemented (n=18). Some nurses mentioned that lack of time could be an issue during implementation. Barriers that were mentioned included that nursing-home residents may not be able to keep their mouth open long enough for the examination or may bite on the camera (especially residents of the psychogeriatric) and therefore nurses expected that the camera cannot be applied in people with reduced cognition, like dementia. Conclusions: The Dutch nurses appear to be willing to try the intraoral camera when implemented. Future research has to determine whether the intra-oral camera can be applied in people with reduced cognition.

Development of an online education program for students sports studies on e-health to optimise lifestyle coaching

Het vakgebied van de persuasieve technologie richt zich op design, ontwikkeling en evaluatie van interactieve technologieën die bedoeld zijn om de houding of het gedrag van de patiënt/ cliënt te veranderen door middel van overtuiging en sociale invloed. Het is bij uitstek een interdisciplinair onderzoeksgebied waar psychologie, mens-computer interactie en vakgebieden uit zorg en welzijn samen opereren. Het doel van de workshop was om gezamenlijk te verkennen hoe impactmeting van persuasieve technologie uitgevoerd kan worden.

Inleiding. Gedurende de opleiding Sportkunde leren studenten gezondheidsproblemen signaleren en leefstijlverbeteringen te bedenken. Dit o.a. middels eHealth. eHealth biedt sportkundige extra mogelijkheden voor informatieoverdracht, optimale monitoring en feedback. In het derde jaar ontwikkelen studenten een leefstijl-bevorderende groepsinterventie, met speciale aandacht voor eHealth. Deze module paste een meer digitale aanpak. Een digitale leeromgeving stelt studenten in staat flexibeler en verdiepend te leren en vereenvoudigd het zien van verbanden tussen opdracht, theorie, praktijk. Doelstelling. De ontwikkeling en evaluatie van een blended-onderwijsmodule ‘Gedragsverandering en leefstijlinterventie met behulp van eHealth’ voor de opleiding Sportkunde. Methode. Met een vooronderzoeksfase en ontwerpfase is op systematische wijze gewerkt aan de nieuwe onderwijsmodule over eHealth. In het vooronderzoek zijn zes focusgroepen uitgevoerd met studenten (n=25), docenten (n=6) en professionals (n=10). Hierbij zijn ervaringen, wensen en behoeften rondom eHealth geïnventariseerd en geanalyseerd. Samen met leerdoelen uit de leerlijn zijn de resultaten uit deze inventarisatie gevormd tot een script voor de nieuwe module. In werksessies is de inhoud en vorm bepaald. In de ontwerpfase is dit script omgezet tot een blended-aanpak in de digitale leeromgeving van Inholland: Moodle. Theorie en passende praktijkvoorbeelden, alsook individuele- en groepsopdrachten werden toegevoegd. Om het groepsproces van studenten te monitoren is de TeamTester ingezet. In het tweede semester van studiejaar 2019/2020, is een eerste prototype van de module met 25 derdejaars sportkunde studenten getest en formatief geëvalueerd om verbeterpunten te verzamelen. De nieuwe opzet is geëvalueerd middels een logboek door de docent en een online vragenlijst (halverwege en eind) voor de studenten. Het logboek beschreef geplande taken en doelen per bijeenkomst, aangevuld met ervaringen en eventuele adaptaties tijdens de uitvoer. De anonieme vragenlijsten voor studenten bestond uit stellingen over opzet en inhoud van de module (geheel mee eens – geheel mee oneens), aangevuld met open vragen voor diepgang. Met behulp van deze formatieve evaluatie werd bestudeerd of de aanpak volgens de student relevant, bruikbaar en van meerwaarde was. Stellingen met de hoogst afwijkende scoren of zorgwekkende opmerkingen werden elementen voor aanpassing. Resultaten. Uit de focusgroep gesprekken in de vooronderzoeksfase, bleek dat informatie over en praktische toepassingen van eHealth van toegevoegde waarde zouden zijn voor het werkveld en onderwijs. De centrale opdracht in de module is het ontwikkelen van een eHealth interventie volgens de stappen van Intervention Mapping (IM). In de module worden eHealth theorie en toepassingen getoond en is het IM-proces visueel gemaakt in een tekening (figuur 1a) en deze tekening is met H5P (software voor interactieve content) voorzien van doorklik-links naar bijpassende lesactiviteiten, lesmateriaal, eHealth informatie. De module was opgezet in een blended-vorm, maar door COVID-19 na 6-weken, zonder grote problemen, overgegaan naar een volledige online module. Deze onverwachtse overgang kan een negatief effect hebben gehad op de evaluatie van de module. Desondanks was de evaluatie van studenten positief over opzet en inhoud. Vele studenten zouden de structuur en helderheid van deze opzet vaker terugzien in het onderwijs. Als verbeterpunt werd aangegeven dat ze (meer) weekstructuur en duidelijkheid in de werklijnen wensten. De docent was enthousiast over de toegenomen betrokkenheid van de studenten, maar binnen de digitale omgeving miste zij enkele technische koppelingen in het systeem. Deze veranderingen zijn inmiddels doorgevoerd. Conclusie. De blended module is goed beoordeeld. De aanpak binnen de module draagt bij aan effectief leren en sluit aan op de eHealth informatie behoefte van studenten, docenten en praktijk. De module is reeds geïmplementeerd in het 3e leerjaar van Sportkunde en de eerste mooie interventies zijn ontwikkeld. De opzet en structuur dient nu al als voorbeeld voor vele anderen collega docenten. Ook wordt vanuit Vitale Delta de informatiebehoefte omtrent eHealth bij andere hogescholen bestudeerd.

In this opinion article, we aim to support organisers of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and teachers delivering medical vocational training by providing recommendations for eHealth education. First, we describe what is required to help primary care professionals and trainees learn about eHealth. Second, we elaborate on how eHealth education might be provided

Laurence Alpay, Harmen Bijwaard en Rob Doms hebben bijdrage geleverd aan dit boek. zie hoofdstuk 7. Blz. 159 In dit hoofdstuk bekijken we de betekenis van ‘de mens centraal’ bij de ontwikkeling van technologie voor gezondheidszorg en welzijnsbevordering. In de zorg- en welzijnssector zijn door de vergrijzing straks meer professionals nodig, maar deze zijn waarschijnlijk in onvoldoende mate beschikbaar vanwege budgettaire beperkingen en te weinig menskracht. Technologie kan hier een oplossing bieden door taken over te nemen of te vergemakkelijken.

Co-creation steps of an online educational module on eHealth for lifestyle improvement.

‘De mens centraal’, wat betekent dat daadwerkelijk voor studeren en voor werken in de zorg-, sport- en welzijnssector? Je kunt er immers niet op tegen zijn. Is het vooral een nieuwe beleidskreet? Betekent het ‘ieder voor zich’? De opleidingen en onderzoekslijnen van Inholland werken vanuit een holistische mensvisie. Dat biedt een kader, maar blijkt ook behoorlijk veel interpretaties te hebben. De bundel ‘De mens centraal, geen probleem?’ gaat daarover.

Results of an explorative study to gather experiences and identify barriers and facilitators for using e-health apps and wearables.

Ouderen wonen langer zelfstandig en behouden steeds langer hun eigen dentitie. Een slechte mondgezondheid kan een negatieve invloed op de algemene gezondheid hebben. E-health heeft al zijn entree in de gezondheidszorg gemaakt en draagt bij aan de zelfzorg en gedragsverandering van patiënten. Toch wordt e-health in de mondzorgkunde nog beperkt gehanteerd. In deze presentatie werden toekomstige uitdagingen en onderzoekslijn op dit gebied van consumenten-eHealth besproken. Wij zijn geïnteresseerd in hoe burgers en professionals omgaan met de opkomst van consumenten-eHealth, hebben ze voldoende vaardigheden en kennis om dit toe te passen en wat maakt dat mensen gaan beginnen met het gebruik van deze tools. En wat doe je met de data (bekijken, begrijpen, actie ondernemen)?

In deze presentatie wordt gekeken naar de relatie tussen het gebruik van mobiele applicaties en fysieke activiteit en gezonde leefstijl. Dit is gedaan op basis van een vragenlijst onder deelnemers aan een hardloopevenement, de Dam tot Damloop. Er werden aparte analyses gedaan voor 8km lopers en 16 km lopers. Een positieve relatie werd gevonden tussen app gebruik en meer bewegen en zich gezonder voelen. App gebruik was ook positief gerelateerd aan beter voelen over zichzelf, je voelen als een atleet, anderen motiveren om te gaan hardlopen en afvallen. Voor de 16 km lopers was app gebruik gerelateerd aan gezonder eten, zich meer energieker voelen en een hogere kans om het sportgedrag vol te houden. De resultaten van dit onderzoek laten zien dat app gebruik mogelijk een ondersteunende rol kunnen hebben in de voorbereiding op een hardloopevenemen, aangezien het gezondheid en fysieke activiteit stimuleert.

This article presents an experiment of expertise capitalization in road traffic-accident analysis. We study the integration of models of expertise from different members of an organization into a coherent corporate expertise model. We present our elicitation protocol and the generic models and tools we exploited for knowledge modeling in this context of multiple experts. We compare the knowledge models obtained for seven experts in accidentology and their representation through conceptual graphs. Finally, we discuss the results of our experiment from a knowledge capitalization viewpoint.

International audience

This document reports on a work carried out in the areas of cognitive modelling and knowledge representation. Two specific and complementary issues are addressed. The first one is concerned with modelling reasoning strategies used by experts from different specialities in the domain of accidentology. This model ling task is grounded on our previous work carried out in medical problem solving. The second issue is centred on representing those reasoning strategies with the con ceptual graph formalism. The approach to build the typologies of concept types and relation types as well as the conceptual graphs in the domain of accidentology is experimental as we use a computer-based tool dedicated to conceptual graphs, deve loped in the ACACIA project.
