Secondary metabolites (SMs) are compounds with relevant biological activities. Their production under laboratory conditions, especially in broth, is still challenging. An example is the pedopeptins, which are nonribosomal peptides active against some bacteria listed by the WHO for which new antibiotics are urgently needed. Their biosynthesis is inhibited by high concentrations of peptone from casein (PC) in tryptic soy broth (TSB), and we applied a RNA-seq approach to identify Pedobacter lusitanus NL19 cellular pathways modulated by this condition. Results were validated by qPCR and revealed 261 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), 46.3% of them with a predicted biological function. Specifically, high concentration of PC significantly repressed the de novo biosynthesis of biotin (- 60X) and the production of nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS) of pedopeptins (about - 14X), but no effect was observed on the expression of other NRPS. In this work, we introduce lead-free organic ferroelectric perovskite N-methyl-N′-diazabicyclo [2.2.2]octonium)–ammonium triiodide (MDABCO-NH4I3) nanocrystals embedded in three different polymer fibers fabricated by the electrospinning technique, as mechanical energy harvesters. Molecular ferroelectrics offer the advantage of structural diversity and tunability, easy fabrication, and mechanical flexibility. Organic–inorganic hybrid materials are new low-symmetry emerging materials that may be used as energy harvesters because of their piezoelectric or ferroelectric properties. Among these, ferroelectric metal-free perovskites are a class of recently discovered multifunctional materials. The doped nanofibers, which are very flexible and have a high Young modulus, behave as active piezoelectric energy harvesting sources that produce a piezoelectric voltage coefficient up to geff = 3.6 VmN−1 and show a blue intense luminescence band at 325 nm. In this work, the pyroelectric coefficient is reported for the MDABCO-NH4I3 perovskite inserted in electrospun fibers. At the ferroelectric–paraelectric phase transition, the embedded nanocrystals display a pyroelectric coefficient as high as 194 × 10−6 Cm−2k−1, within the same order of magnitude as that reported for the state-of-the-art bulk ferroelectric triglycine sulfate (TGS). The perovskite nanocrystals embedded into the polymer fibers remain stable in their piezoelectric output response, and no degradation is caused by oxidation, making the piezoelectric perovskite nanofibers suitable to be used as flexible energy harvesters., This research was funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia through FEDER (European Fund for Regional Development)-COMPETE-QREN-EU (ref. The high volume of research outputs related to technologies and strategies for decarbonisation can make it challenging to understand the relevance of the presented proposals. In this paper, a bibliometric-based analysis is proposed to understand better the domains and subdomains of decarbonisation technologies that have given more attention by the scientific community. The results show that carbon capture technologies, renewable energy sources, electric mobility, green hydrogen, and storage systems are the technology innovations that have received the most attention in the period 2013 to 2021. The development of stimuli-sensitive drug delivery systems is a very attractive area of current research in cancer therapy. The deep knowledge on the microenvironment of tumors has supported the progress of nanosystems’ ability for controlled and local fusion as well as drug release. Temperature and pH are two of the most promising triggers in the development of sensitive formulations to improve the efficacy of anticancer agents. Herein, magnetic liposomes with fusogenic sensitivity to pH and temperature were developed aiming at dual cancer therapy (by chemotherapy and magnetic hyperthermia). Magnetic nanoparticles of mixed calcium/manganese ferrite were synthesized by co-precipitation with citrate and by sol–gel method, and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy in transmission mode (STEM), and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). The citrate-stabilized nanoparticles showed a small-sized population (around 8 nm, determined by XRD) and suitable magnetic properties, with a low coercivity and high saturation magnetization (~54 emu/g). The nanoparticles were incorporated into liposomes of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine/cholesteryl hemisuccinate (DPPC:CHEMS) and of the same components with a PEGylated lipid (DPPC:CHEMS:DSPE-PEG), resulting in magnetoliposomes with sizes around 100 nm. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and electrophoretic light scattering (ELS) measurements were performed to investigate the pH-sensitivity of the magnetoliposomes’ fusogenic ability. Land registration has a magnetic appeal to politicians, state officials, and practitioners. The objective of this paper is, in dialogue with the other papers of this special volume, to highlight some of the main assumptions and misconceptions on which land registration programs are often developed, the problems that they cause if not carefully implemented, and the conditions in which they can actually improve people’s lives. This paper, based on my doctoral research (2020), does not aim to be a comprehensive literature review on existingknowledge regarding land registration nor an analysis of land registration in Timor-Leste, but aims instead to highlight a number of key authors and ideas on land registration that can contribute to the dialogue about this topic in Timor-Leste.

Despite the interest in rare-earth nickelates for applications, their processing under 1 bar of oxygen pressure is still challenging. In this work, we report the co-precipitation synthesis, thermal stability and thermally driven decomposition of NdNiO3 phase, in order to determine the synthesis parameters towards a pure perovskite phase. We concluded that using a 1% molar excess of Nd during preparation and posterior annealing at around 900 °C at 1 bar of O2 yields an almost pure NdNiO3−δ phase (with a hexagonal Nd2O3 phase below 0.6% molar), with an oxygen deficiency of δ = 0.082 ± 0.001. The decomposition of the NdNiO3−δ phase into Nd4Ni3O10 and NiO was found to start above 900 °C. On further heating, above 1050 °C, the Nd4Ni3O10 decomposes into Nd2NiO4 and NiO phases. International audience; MORDigital is a newly funded Portuguese lexicographical project that aims to produce highquality and searchable digital versions of the first three editions (1789; 1813; 1823) of the Diccionario da Lingua Portugueza by António de Morais Silva, preserving and making accessible this important work of European heritage. This paper will describe the current state of the art, the project, its objectives and the methodology proposed, the latter of which is based on a rigorous linguistic analysis and will also include steps necessary for the ontologisation of knowledge contained in and relating to the text. A section will be dedicated to the various investigation domains of the project description. The output of the project will be made available via a dedicated platform.

This study was undertaken to expand the current knowledge of the morphology and morphometry of rostellar hooks of protoscoleces from the metacestode E. granulosus. Protoscoleces were isolated from livers and lungs of naturally infected ovines and bovines obtained from abattoirs in Peruvian provinces (Arequipa, Cuzco, Puno, Huancavelica and Junin). Brightfield microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy, differential interference contrast and variable pressure scanning electron microscopy were used. Morphometry was made using computer image analysis. The application of these assay indicated that the large hooks frequently had thin guards and an irregular surface between the guard and handle. Data also showed that the small hooks presented rounded and stout guards. The blade did not show any relevant feature. No clear morphological distinction was observed between large and small hooks. Phenotypical polymorphism was evident in the shape and size of hooks. In conclusion, the current data show that large and small rostellar hooks have morphological polymorphism. Because the application of this knowledge for taxonomic study is limited, for this end morphometry techniques are required. Our study demonstrated the usefulness of combining conventional and new morphological tools to help to solve unresolved matters with regards to rostellar hooks features. Esta investigación fue realizada para incrementar el conocimiento actual de los datos morfológicos y morfométricos de los ganchos rostelares de la forma larvaria (metacestode) de Echinococcus granulosus. Los protoescoÛ lices fueron aislados de hígados y pulmones de ovinos y vacunos infectados naturalmente obtenidos de los mataderos en los departamentos del Perú (Arequipa, Cuzco, Puno, Huancavelica y Junín). Se utilizó la microscopia de campo claro, la microscopia confocal, la microscopia electrónica de barrido y contraste de interferencia diferencial. La morfometría se realizó mediante el análisis de imagen computacional. La aplicación de estos ensayos indican que los ganchos grandes con frecuencia presentaban finos protectores y de superficie irregular entre el protector y el mango. Los datos también indicaron que los ganchos pequeños presentaron proctectores redondeados y robustos. La hoja no mostroÛ ningún aspecto relevante. Se observoÛ que no existe distinción morfológica clara entre los ganchos grandes y pequeños. Fue evidente diferencias fenotípicas en la forma y el tamaño de los ganchos. En conclusión, la comparación de la morfología de los ganchos rostelares grandes y pequeños mostró ciertas diferencias. Nuestro estudio demostró la utilidad de la combinación de herramientas tradicionales y nuevas para los estudios morfológicos y ayudar a resolver las cuestiones pendientes con respecto a la morfología de los ganchos rostelares.
