- Abstract
The pyramids on the Giza plateau close to Cairo in Egypt belong to the most important structures in the history of mankind. The Great Pyramid built by Pharaoh Cheops (Khufu) is about 4500 years old and was already described as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by the Greek historian Herodotus. Besides some deterioration throughout the centuries, the Cheops Pyramid has barely changed since its construction. It is one of the most visited and investigated structures on earth. However, few systematic investigations are reported using modern geophysical measurement methods. Based on findings during Muon measurements as part of the ScanPyramids project, a joint team from Cairo University and Technical University of Munich including researchers from different countries had the opportunity to perform three measurement campaigns between 2020 and 2022. These measurements have been part of a capacity-building training of young scientists and included ground penetrating radar (GPR), ultrasound, electrical resistivity tomography, passive seismic, and others. Some results are presented focusing on the pros and cons of the individual techniques considering the requirements of cultural heritage and the difficult measurement conditions: large blocks of limestone with strong surface deteriorations, joints of unknown conditions, sidewall reflections, and restricted access. Geodetical surveys determining measurement positions, image fusion, and numerical simulations have been of tremendous help to interpret the data and are also discussed., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

ImportanceThe longer-term effects of therapies for the treatment of critically ill patients with COVID-19 are unknown.ObjectiveTo determine the effect of multiple interventions for critically ill adults with COVID-19 on longer-term outcomes.Design, Setting, and ParticipantsPrespecified secondary analysis of an ongoing adaptive platform trial (REMAP-CAP) testing interventions within multiple therapeutic domains in which 4869 critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 were enrolled between March 9, 2020, and June 22, 2021, from 197 sites in 14 countries. The final 180-day follow-up was completed on March 2, 2022.InterventionsPatients were randomized to receive 1 or more interventions within 6 treatment domains: immune modulators (n = 2274), convalescent plasma (n = 2011), antiplatelet therapy (n = 1557), anticoagulation (n = 1033), antivirals (n = 726), and corticosteroids (n = 401).Main Outcomes and MeasuresThe main outcome was survival through day 180, analyzed using a bayesian piecewise exponential model. A hazard ratio (HR) less than 1 represented improved survival (superiority), while an HR greater than 1 represented worsened survival (harm); futility was represented by a relative improvement less than 20% in outcome, shown by an HR greater than 0.83.ResultsAmong 4869 randomized patients (mean age, 59.3 years; 1537 [32.1%] women), 4107 (84.3%) had known vital status and 2590 (63.1%) were alive at day 180. IL-6 receptor antagonists had a greater than 99.9% probability of improving 6-month survival (adjusted HR, 0.74 [95% credible interval {CrI}, 0.61-0.90]) and antiplatelet agents had a 95% probability of improving 6-month survival (adjusted HR, 0.85 [95% CrI, 0.71-1.03]) compared with the control, while the probability of trial-defined statistical futility (HR >0.83) was high for therapeutic anticoagulation (99.9%; HR, 1.13 [95% CrI, 0.93-1.42]), convalescent plasma (99.2%; HR, 0.99 [95% CrI, 0.86-1.14]), and lopinavir-ritonavir (96.6%; HR, 1.06 [95% CrI, 0.82-1.38]) and the probabilities of harm from hydroxychloroquine (96.9%; HR, 1.51 [95% CrI, 0.98-2.29]) and the combination of lopinavir-ritonavir and hydroxychloroquine (96.8%; HR, 1.61 [95% CrI, 0.97-2.67]) were high. The corticosteroid domain was stopped early prior to reaching a predefined statistical trigger; there was a 57.1% to 61.6% probability of improving 6-month survival across varying hydrocortisone dosing strategies. Conclusions and RelevanceAmong critically ill patients with COVID-19 randomized to receive 1 or more therapeutic interventions, treatment with an IL-6 receptor antagonist had a greater than 99.9% probability of improved 180-day mortality compared with patients randomized to the control, and treatment with an antiplatelet had a 95.0% probability of improved 180-day mortality compared with patients randomized to the control. Overall, when considered with previously reported short-term results, the findings indicate that initial in-hospital treatment effects were consistent for most therapies through 6 months.

Abstract Background While tailored information might have the potential to motivate stroke survivors to make essential lifestyle changes and improve long-term outcomes, how this varies among different stroke populations is not yet fully understood. Method From November 2022 to May 2023, stroke survivors in the UK, who were clinically stable, participated in a community-based, descriptive cross-sectional study. Participants rated several information themes on a Likert scale from one to five, indicating the relevance of each information group to them. Data were analysed using Wilcoxon and chi-squared tests on SPSS. Descriptive statistics were employed for examining the preferred information delivery method, timing, personnel, and frequency. Results Seventy survivors, with an average age of 67 ± 19 (61% males), were recruited. Survivors emphasised the importance of symptoms, risk factors, and recovery information during hospital stay, while medication and lifestyle change information were more significant in the community. Subgroup analysis revealed distinct patterns: First-time stroke survivors highlighted the importance of social and financial support (acute phase median Likert score 3, chronic phase median Likert score 4; p

Purpose – This study aims to examines both accrual and real-based earnings management (EM) behavior of listed corporations in tax-free countries during different economic situations. It also addresses the link between firm- and country-level determinants of accrual and real-based EM and explores economic conditions' influence on these determinants. Design/methodology/approach – The study examines 1,608 firm-years, covers sixteen years (2004–2019), clustered into three periods according to the global financial crisis (GFC): four years prior (2004–2007), two years during (2008–2009), and ten years post the GFC (2010–2019). We employ the modified Jones model (performance-matched) developed by Kothari et al. (2005) to measure the accrual-based EM (positive and negative discretionary accrual EM) and the three levels model for Dechow et al. (1998) to measure the real-based EM (cash flow from operating, discretionary expenses and abnormal production cost). Findings – The study finds a significant increase in EM practices in the listed corporations in tax-free countries during the economic downturn. These corporations are found to understate their earnings during the economic stress period. Simultaneously, the firm-level determinants of EM practices were at the same level of significance during different economic conditions in accrual-based EM. In contrast, the country-level EM determinants vary based on the economic conditions. Originality/value – Financial reports' users gain a deep understanding of the quality of financial reports in the context of tax-free country. And, the study outcomes inspire policymakers to develop relevant legislation to mitigate financial reports' risk and adequately protect the financial reports' users.

Introduction: Little attention was paid to explore the prevalence of neck and upper limb pain among gynecologists particularly those who perform laparoscopic procedures.Aim of work: To assess the frequency of pain in the neck and upper limbs among gynecologists working at Menoufia governorate in Egypt and to explore common risk factors. Materials and methods: A pre-designed questionnaire was sent to 642 gynecologists who worked at Menoufia governorate in Egypt; 583 were returned (90.8%). Descriptive and analytical statistical analyses were performed to assess the frequency of pain in neck and upper limb and to detect their risk factors. Results: Among 583 gynecologists, 293 (50.3%) were male and 290 (49.7%) were females; age ranged from 27 to 60 years old, out of them 315 (54.03%) experienced neck and/or upper limb pain. Most of the affected participants experience pain 1-2 times/week (80.6%), received medical treatment for pain (92.7%), applied for sick leave 1-2 times/month (77.1%) and taught that attaining certain posture while operating is the main cause of their pain (73.3%). Age above 45 years (odd’s ratio 1.45), clinical practice over 15 years, laparoscopic procedures (odd’s ratio 1.88), more than ten operations per week (odd’s ratio 2.78) and operations took more than one hour (odd’s ratio 2.10) increase the risk for developing neck and/or upper limb pain. Conclusion: This study revealed that neck and/or upper limb pain is common among gynecologic laparoscopists. Adoption of ergonomic posture and decreasing working hours when performing laparoscopic procedures may help to minimize the risk of a work-related pain. Future research should explore the implementation of ergonomic guidelines and correlation with subsequent improvement of outcome.

The key objectives of this study were to investigate the factors that empower women entrepreneurs in the Kingdom of Bahrain and to measure the impacts of such factors on their business development and growth. The four main factors covered in this study were gender equality, quality education, sociocultural, and policies. The quantitative method was adopted to obtain the results of a structured survey distributed among 449 women entrepreneurs in the Kingdom of Bahrain registered in the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. A simple random sampling approach was used. This study examined the empowerment perspectives of Bahraini women as entrepreneurs. Hypotheses were developed and tested using statistical tests to significantly identify the impacts of the factors on women entrepreneurs' participation in the country's business activities. The quantitative results of the study showed the importance of empowering women entrepreneurs in business activities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which leads to their development and the country's economic growth. The findings confirmed the existence and significant impact of three factors, which are quality education, sociocultural, and policies, that empower and support women to start businesses in the Kingdom of Bahrain. No significant effect of the gender equality factor was distinguished. Empowerment and institutional theories were found to be relevant to the context of empowering women as entrepreneurs. The research provided recommendations, such as reinforcing policies that empower entrepreneurs, to enhance the empowerment of women entrepreneurship in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Word of mouth has adapted societal development. Word of mouth plays an essential role in shaping consumer behavior. Consumers’ word of mouth is directly influenced by brand equity dimensions Consumers’ perception of a brand is formed by consumers’ awareness, association, and its image, it represents an important variable that marketers should not neglect. The objective of this article is to study the influence of brand awareness, brand image, perceived quality, brand association, and brand loyalty as brand equity dimensions on consumers’ word of mouth. Therefore, the positivism philosophy favoring a causal type model was used to test the cause-effect relationship forming the research hypotheses. Primary data was collected using a quantitative method with a deductive approach based on a structured questionnaire. This study is carried out on a total sample of 800 individuals (n = 800). The empirical study supported the research hypotheses through the analysis of the one-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression stepwise. Finally, the last section embraced suitable recommendations for this article.

Chicks in 2nd, group infected with E coli only. Chicks in 3rd and 4th groups supplemented with 1ml formic acid, 1ml probiotic/ liter drinking water respectively from 1st to 35th day of age and infected with E coli . At 1st day post supplementation 5 chicks in all groups were weighted individually for calculation weight gain and feed conversion rate. Swabes from cloaca and trachea were collected from all chicks for reisolation of E coli . Study the effect of organic acids and probiotic in mortality rate. Blood samples were collected at 1st &7th day post supplementation for hemato-biochemical analysis Broiler chicks infected with E coli showed typical clinical signs of colibacelosis and mortality rate 24%, A significant reduction in body weight, lymphocytes, monocyts, eosinophils, basophils, serum total protein, albumin, total, a & g globulin and a significant rise in feed conversion rate, leukocytic count, heterophils b globulin, AST, ALT, ALP, uric acid and creatinine levels. Also, beside insignificant reduction in phagocytosis, killing%, IgG, IGA and IgM were recorded. E. coli was reisolated from all infected chicks Chicks infected with E coli and supplemented with organic acid or probiotic show less clinical signs, mortality rate was 4% coupled with reduction in reisolation of E. coli associated with significant elevation in weight gain, phagocytosis, killing %, IgG, IGA, IgM, total protein, albumin, a, b and g globulin beside significant reduction in feed conversion rate and insignificant increase in leukocytic count, heterophils, lymphocyte, monocyte, eosinophils, basophils, A/G ratio, AST, ALT, ALP, uric acid and creatinine. It could be concluded that the use of organic acid and probiotic reduced E. coli in digestive tract of broilers and improve body performance, immune response and some biochemical parameters.

IntroductionThis study explores the effects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots, with a particular focus on OpenAI’s ChatGPT, on Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). With the rapid advancement of AI, understanding its implications in the educational sector becomes paramount.MethodsUtilizing databases like PubMed, IEEE Xplore, and Google Scholar, we systematically searched for literature on AI chatbots’ impact on HEIs. Our criteria prioritized peer-reviewed articles, prominent media outlets, and English publications, excluding tangential AI chatbot mentions. After selection, data extraction focused on authors, study design, and primary findings. The analysis combined descriptive and thematic approaches, emphasizing patterns and applications of AI chatbots in HEIs.ResultsThe literature review revealed diverse perspectives on ChatGPT’s potential in education. Notable benefits include research support, automated grading, and enhanced human-computer interaction. However, concerns such as online testing security, plagiarism, and broader societal and economic impacts like job displacement, the digital literacy gap, and AI-induced anxiety were identified. The study also underscored the transformative architecture of ChatGPT and its versatile applications in the educational sector. Furthermore, potential advantages like streamlined enrollment, improved student services, teaching enhancements, research aid, and increased student retention were highlighted. Conversely, risks such as privacy breaches, misuse, bias, misinformation, decreased human interaction, and accessibility issues were identified.DiscussionWhile AI’s global expansion is undeniable, there is a pressing need for balanced regulation in its application within HEIs. Faculty members are encouraged to utilize AI tools like ChatGPT proactively and ethically to mitigate risks, especially academic fraud. Despite the study’s limitations, including an incomplete representation of AI’s overall effect on education and the absence of concrete integration guidelines, it is evident that AI technologies like ChatGPT present both significant benefits and risks. The study advocates for a thoughtful and responsible integration of such technologies within HEIs.

Abstract The diagnosis of decompression sickness (DCS) is mostly based on clinical suspicion, and there is currently no available modality to fully confirm the diagnosis. However, the use of echocardiography in suspected DCS cases has become more common. In this case, transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) was used to detect microbubbles in the right cardiac chambers and monitor the patient after hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), suggesting the possible applicability of TTE in diagnosing and monitoring DCS patients. This report describes a 54‐year‐old Fisherman who was referred to the emergency department with dyspnea and mild confusion after a rapid ascent of a saturation dive at 50 m sea depth. After the initial evaluation, he was assessed using TTE to exclude the presence of structural heart disease, where it surprisingly showed spontaneous echo contrast inside the right cardiac chambers similar to agitated saline echo testing. The patient was then admitted for HBOT and follow‐up; rapid improvement was noticed after the first HBOT session and the TTE findings were fully resolved. TTE could be considered in the initial workup when DCS is suspected, and it might have a role in monitoring DCS patients if echocardiographic findings of bubble formation were documented in the pre‐hyperbaric therapy settings.

This study aims to illustrate the impact of adopting Regulatory technology (RegTech) innovations in banks on money laundering prevention effectiveness using Bahrain as a case study. Bahrain has strived to position itself as the banking center of the Arabian Gulf, hence the results of this novel research are informative of the practices in the region. The primary data for this study was collected through a survey instrument distributed to 100 bankers working in Bahrain with expertise in compliance. The results of multivariate analysis indicate that transactions monitoring through RegTech and cost- and time-saving aspects of RegTech, drive money laundering prevention effectiveness to a highly statistically significant extent. However, electronic know your customer (KYC) technologies are insignificant as drivers. This research not only sheds light on the efficacy of RegTech but also raises general awareness concerning the adoption and integration of RegTech platforms for fighting money laundering. In particular, the findings provide specific insights about the deployment of RegTech capabilities in banks in regional banking centers of modest scale.
