The article reviews the literature in the field of academic journal publishing highlighting the phenomenon of the recent entry of Internet-driven open access journals into a field dominated by the traditional subscription journals. The article has a twofold purpose of gaining an understanding of the main features and characteristics of the open access journal system through a review of the literature; and assessing the extent of adoption of open access by researchers in the management discipline through a review of the management publications by the University of the West Indies (UWI) researchers. A sequential exploratory strategy of two phases was used. The first phase focused on the collection of secondary data on journal publishing and the second involved reviewing the publishing record of the UWI with particular reference to management research. The main finding is that open access was not fully embraced as a publishing outlet because of academic resistance derived from questions of acceptability, and the existence of a system that assigns greater recognition to the established subscription journals. The article concludes that open access journals have grown in respectability and quality and are a good option for publishing management research by authors located in developing regions, provided the operational characteristics of this mode of publishing are understood and caution in journal selection is exercised.

This study examines the progress of the two major universities in the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago towards the transition to entrepreneurial universities through incorporating the core components of designing and delivering entrepreneurship education programmes, establishing effective university-led business incubators and the building of university-industry-government collaboration. The theoretical construct of the Triple Helix interrelationships and the development stages framework provide the basis for analysing the progress of the universities towards achieving their development mission. The general conclusion is that progress towards building an effective university-centred entrepreneurial ecosystem has been relatively slow and needs to be accelerated through more proactive leadership and greater involvement of internal and external stakeholders.

The globalization of higher business education supported by the growth of transnational educational institutions is now a feature of the developing countries of the Caribbean region. This article examines the situation of Guyana, where the recent discovery of hydrocarbon resources has created expectations of an economic transformation that will generate a demand for trained personnel to manage the transition: Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates are expected to contribute significantly in this regard. In the higher education system in Guyana, MBA graduates are produced mainly by the regional university and an Australian transnational institution. This study gathered information on the guiding factors in the choice of MBA through a survey of current students and recent graduates of the two institutions. A comparative analysis of the competing programmes was also undertaken to provide greater insights into their capacities for generating the human resource output necessary for the contemplated transformation.

Entrepreneurship courses are now a feature of the curricula of many tertiary-level business schools. While there is a growing body of research on the subject of entrepreneurship education and learning, studies of the executive master of business administration (EMBA) are relatively sparse. This article offers an example of an entrepreneurship course specifically tailored to the more mature and experienced EMBA participants. The curriculum offered in this article is the result of 25 years of teaching, testing and refining of content and learning approaches in a university setting. The argument is that the course, as currently designed, can serve as a template for courses to be conducted in business schools located in similar cultural contexts and economic environments.

Leadership is an area of study that dates back several decades with the emphasis placed on individual leaders particularly those in political and military fields. With the evolution of the practice of leadership and its application to organizations, the concept of team leadership gained attention. The main aim of the article is to outline a model for promoting team leadership in organizations with special emphasis on developing and emerging countries. A two stage qualitative research methodology was adopted involving collection and analysis of secondary published data for the purpose of identifying the main concepts and themes relating to leadership, followed by the integration of the most relevant concepts into the design of a team leadership model. The article is valuable as the creation of models to guide the leadership of teams are sparse especially with applications to developing-country contexts. There are implications for the management of organizations in most jurisdictions, but particularly countries where modern leadership practices lag behind best practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of individual creativity is well established in the fields of psychology and sociology but, more recently, management studies focused on the aspects of team and organization creativity in the workplace as part of a triad of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This paper employed a tri -level component analysis of individual, team, and organi zational creativity as steps towards development of the creative sustainable organization. The main aim of the paper is to identify and explore the key issues and considerations involved in fostering creativity in the workplace as a guide to organization managers whose objective is organizational sustainability. The research process involved secondary research of published journals and reputable texts relevant to the field of creativity studies, and extrapolation of the author's experience in teaching creativity at the MBA level and in leading organizations. The main finding is that business and organization leaders must take full responsibility for promoting creative behavior among organization members as a precursor to innovation. The value of this work is that, the concept of creativity and its key elements are presented in a simple format to facilitate greater understanding by business practitioners, managers of businesses in developing countries, heads of non-profit organizations, and university staff and students.
