Abstract

This paper presents the investigation of shear walls behavior in seismic response of tall buildings. In this study, shear wall system was tested for one building with total ten systems namely I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X. Seismic loads were applied to the building models using response spectrum method. In the response spectrum data, the acceleration equals the ground acceleration 1.0 g on its direction and 0.3g in the opposite direction. The result indicated, the comparison of all model in term of displacement show model VI produced the lowest lateral displacement and base shear load of 5.8 mm and 2407 kN, respectively, while model II has the highest displacement of 11.57 mm. The study show, displacement of model VI was decreased up to 21% by adding boundary elements compared to model I which both of the model located at the same location. Thus, it can be concluded that, in term of displacement the optimum solution to resist seismic load by provide a shear wall with boundary elements near the core of the building as applied to Model VI. Abstract

The aim is to study IL‐10 polymorphisms and IL‐10 level and assess their relation to T‐cell subsets in childhood immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). In all, 40 (25 acute, 15 chronic) ITP child patients were investigated at time of presentation, compared to 15 healthy, age‐ and gender‐matched controls and followed up for 1 year to determine chronic cases. Studying the effect of IL‐10 promoter polymorphism was done by PCR‐RFLP, IL‐10 level was determined by ELISA, natural killer cells and T‐cell subsets were evaluated by flow cytometry. Subjects with IL‐10 promoter (1082 AA and 592 AA) genotypes had lower IL‐10 levels and had lower CD4%, higher CD8%, lower CD4/CD8 ratio and lower T‐reg%. IL‐10 polymorphisms had no effect on NK%. IL‐10 serum levels and IL‐10 promoter polymorphic genotype frequencies are not different between ITP cases and controls; however, in ITP patients, IL‐10 promoter (1082 AA and 592 AA) genotypes and associated lower CD4, higher CD8, lower CD4/CD8 ratio is associated with more severe thrombocytopenia at presentation and had a poorer response to first‐line treatment. Patients with lower T‐reg cells had a higher tendency to develop chronic ITP. IL‐10 level and polymorphisms as well as disturbed T‐cell subsets percentages are demonstrable effectors of immune dysfunction in ITP and can affect the presentation and outcome of childhood ITP. The article presents an analysis on bearing failure on an induced draft fan in a petroleum facility. It states that ID fan has an nondrive end (NDE) self-aligning double ball bearing, and mentions that the unit was started at zero inlet guide vanes (iGVs) and openings, and gradually increased. It notes that abnormal bearing noise was observed from the fan's NDE bearing during operation, and cites that the motor driver must be checked for incorrect coupling installation.
