Abstract

The current migration routes may represent an excellent record while studying nomadic populations in the past. And although we can only extrapolate the current situation or the results of comparative studies to the past without equating them, migration routes may be used as research contexts of high reliability. The slopes of Sabalan Mountain in the northwest of Iran is among principal summer pastures used by the herders of the Shahseven tribes. Here, the vast majority of Iron Age sites are cemeteries not associated with settlements, so in the past the area was used by the nomads for their summer camps. During the research of migration routes of the modern-day Shahseven leading to the summer pastures, multiple Iron Age cemeteries, as well as fortified settlements and campsites, were discovered. In large-scale field investigations, archaeological sites were thoroughly surveyed to locate them in relation to current migration routes and to verify possible relationship between them. In the research area, sites were studied both by number and by categories, and the sought-for relationship has been established. It is obvious that the sites are concentrated along migration routes. Both on the mountain slopes and adjacent plains, traces of ten pathways of primary and secondary importance were recovered, and Iron Age sites are found throughout along them. Hence, some modern migration routes appeared to have been in use during the Iron Age, although the traditional ancient pathways may not have been entirely the same as modern ones.

Abstract

Introduction As the world's population grows, more food need to be produced. Plasma technology is one of the methods that can improve plant growth. Cold plasma is effective in increasing growth and germination indices. In this article, the effect of cold plasma based on corona discharge was investigated on germination of Adel, Mansur, and Azad chickpea varieties. Materials and Methods In the corona discharge method, a relative vacuum should be used. Corona discharge is formed when there are pronounced spatial in-homogeneities in the electric field, in particular, when the electric field exceeds the breakdown threshold in a limited spatial region. This commonly occurs when highly asymmetric electrodes are employed, such as a point and a plane. Thermodynamically corona is a very non-equilibrium process, creating a non-thermal plasma. The avalanche mechanism does not release enough energy to heat the gas in the corona region generally and ionize it, as occurs in an electric arc or spark. Only a small number of gas molecules take part in the electron avalanches and are ionized, having energies close to the ionization energy of 1-3 ev, the rest of the surrounding gas is close to ambient temperature. Corona discharge is a weakly ionized non-equilibrium plasma based on the avalanche mechanism. If it reaches a close distance with a conductive material or increase the electrical field, it can create longer breakdown streamers and eventually create sparks. The system is designed to convert 220V voltage with a frequency of 50 Hz to 12 kV voltage with a frequency of 9 kHz. Two electrodes with a 2 cm distance are in a vacuum chamber with a negative pressure of 20 pounds per square inch. And the samples are placed between two electrodes. Experiment was performed in form of a.factorial experimental design based on a CRD. In this plan, treatments are randomly placed in experimental units. The type of factorial experiment performed is 3×3×2×2 and multiplied numbers are factor levels. Seed production year factor in two levels, moisture factor in two levels, Seed variety factor in three levels, and exposure duration factor in three levels were examined. Plasma-exposed seeds and non-exposed seeds were grown under the same conditions. The samples were selected completely randomly. The samples were wetted 24 hours before exposure. Then all 18 chickpeas were placed in a dish in order to observe proper repetition. Samples from each dish were exposed to cold plasma under the same conditions between samples for a specified period of time. After exposing the samples to cold plasma, samples of all dishes under the same conditions at 30 °C and 300 lux environmental light were examined for germination evaluation. For this purpose, samples of each dish were placed in a cover of cotton cloth. They got wet every 4 hours. After 48 hours, all samples were examined and the root length of each sample was measured. Results and Discussion The results showed that seeds exposed to plasma for 60 seconds had a faster germination speed than those without exposure. Also, seeds that were exposed to plasma for 30 seconds had a longer root length than those without exposure. According to the results of statistical analysis, exposure to cold plasma for 30 seconds has increased root length in Adel chickpea variety up to 12.5% and in Mansour variety up to 18%. Conclusion After statistical analysis, appear that root length under the same conditions, during 30 seconds of exposure to cold plasma, is significant at 5% level from non-exposure and 60 seconds of exposure. Microscopic images of samples were examined on the outer surface and inner tissue of seed cell. Studies have shown that the outer surfaces of seeds exposed to cold plasma are smoother, less prominent and smaller contact angle than those without exposure to plasma. This change can increase the hydrophilicity of seeds. But cold plasma had no effect on cell tissue in terms of size and number. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Dashte Abbas is one of the fertile plains of the Ilam Province situated in the southwest of Iran, where water resources are scarce, and often the quality of water is not suitable for agricultural uses. To solve the problem of water scarcity, the Karkheh-Dashte Abbas inter-basin water transfer project started operation in 2008. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different agricultural water management scenarios on the environmental and economic conditions in the Dashte Abbas using the System Dynamics (SD) approach. The conceptual model was considered based on five sub-models, including water demand, water supply, environmental stresses, environment, and water economics. The evaluated water transfer scenarios were allocation of 160, 170, 180, 200 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) water transferred from the Karkheh Dam and 90, 80, 70, and 60 MCM annual groundwater withdrawal from the aquifer, respectively. The results showed that in all scenarios, water transfer increased groundwater level, decreased groundwater quality, reduced soil aeration and drainage, increased salinity of root zone and, consequently, reduced agricultural production in the plain. The results of the SD model demonstrate that the need for drainage is reduced with increasing groundwater consumption. The alternative cropping systems with higher water requirements, including forage crops and sugar beet, may be helpful to reduce drainage problems and to prevent construction of an underground drainage system. The results also confirmed that with the implementation of the first water allocation scenario (allocation of annual 160 MCM surface water transfer and annual 90 MCM of groundwater withdrawal) and cultivation of higher water requirement crops can reduce the rise in groundwater level and drainage problems. Abstract

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a life-threatening inflammatory disease, with no specific pharmacological treatment. However, concerning some etiologies, early specific intervention (such as ERCP in biliary AP) has proven to be remarkably beneficial. Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) induces severe pancreatic damage by several direct (cellular damage) and indirect (deterioration of microcirculation) mechanisms. Published data suggest that early removal of triglycerides (TGs) and toxic free fatty acids (FFAs) may be advantageous; however, high-quality evidence is still missing in the literature.

Abstract

Cardiopoietic cells, produced through cardiogenic conditioning of patients' mesenchymal stem cells, have shown preliminary efficacy. The Congestive Heart Failure Cardiopoietic Regenerative Therapy (CHART-1) trial aimed to validate cardiopoiesis-based biotherapy in a larger heart failure cohort. This multinational, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled study was conducted in 39 hospitals. Patients with symptomatic ischaemic heart failure on guideline-directed therapy (n = 484) were screened; n = 348 underwent bone marrow harvest and mesenchymal stem cell expansion. Those achieving > 24 million mesenchymal stem cells (n = 315) were randomized to cardiopoietic cells delivered endomyocardially with a retention-enhanced catheter (n = 157) or sham procedure (n = 158). Procedures were performed as randomized in 271 patients (n = 120 cardiopoietic cells, n = 151 sham). The primary efficacy endpoint was a Finkelstein–Schoenfeld hierarchical composite (all-cause mortality, worsening heart failure, Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire score, 6-min walk distance, left ventricular end-systolic volume, and ejection fraction) at 39 weeks. The primary outcome was neutral (Mann–Whitney estimator 0.54, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.47–0.61 [value > 0.5 favours cell treatment], P = 0.27). Exploratory analyses suggested a benefit of cell treatment on the primary composite in patients with baseline left ventricular end-diastolic volume 200–370 mL (60% of patients) (Mann–Whitney estimator 0.61, 95% CI 0.52–0.70, P = 0.015). No difference was observed in serious adverse events. One (0.9%) cardiopoietic cell patient and 9 (5.4%) sham patients experienced aborted or sudden cardiac death. The primary endpoint was neutral, with safety demonstrated across the cohort. Further evaluation of cardiopoietic cell therapy in patients with elevated end-diastolic volume is warranted.

Abstract

Objective: This study compared the effectiveness of two group treatments, behavioral activation (BA) and cognitive therapy (CT), in reducing subsyndromal anxiety and depressive symptoms in a sample of Iranian university students. Method: Twenty-seven Iranian university students who scored 18 or higher on the depression subscale and 16 or higher on the anxiety subscale of the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-42) were randomly assigned into treatment groups. One group received 8 sessions of BA (n = 14), and the other received 8 sessions of group CT (n = 13). Result: Analysis of covariance revealed that the BA group had a significantly greater reduction in depressive symptoms than the CT group. However, there were no significant differences between the two groups in the levels of anxiety, stress symptoms or functional impairment after treatment. Conclusion: This study found evidence for the effectiveness of BA in reducing anxiety, depressive and stress symptoms and functional impairment compared to CT. BA was more effective than CT in improving depressive symptoms and was as effective as CT in decreasing anxiety, stress and functional impairment. BA is also a cost-effective intervention, particularly in group formats.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of black carp introduction in chines carp poly culture as well as its effect on the growth, survival rate and production of chines carp species. This study conducted in two consecutive year. The period of culture in first year was during Jun 1 until Des 5 ,2009 and in second year it was from Jun 4 to Dec, 1,2010 .The experiment were started by selecting 9 earth end pond each with 800 m2 area and was performed in triplicate with 2 treatment and one control , each year .The ponds were treated by liming and fertilizer before filling water and then stocked with 3000 chines carp ( 140 Silver carp , 42 Grass carp , 42 Common carp and 25 Bighead carp ) while the number of Black carp in treatments 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively, 250, 500, 75 and 125 pieces in Ha, blackcap was added to the control species respectively . The number of fish species harvested at end of culture in treatment 1, 2 and control .The total fish species harvested at the end of first year was 2276 out 1904 species released. The number of fishes catch in treatment 1,2 and control were 637,658and 573 species. the statistical analysis showed that average weight of black carp were 407±150 gr in treatment 1, 234±121gr in treatment 2 with the minimum and maximum weight of 242 and 780 gr in first treatment as well as 110 and 750 gr in second treatment the production of black carp in first treatment were 42 kilogram per hectare and 60 kilogram in second treatment. The growth rate were higher in second treatment than first one. In second year the investigation repeated in triplicate with treatment3, 4 and one control .The total stocking density in treatment 3,4 and control were 665,633, and 574 pieces. Statistical analysis showed that total weight of black carp in third treatment was2049 ±614gr and in forth treatment was 2361 ±60 gr where the minimum and maximum values were 3115 gr and 1025 gr respectively. The survival rat of black carp in treatment3 higher than in were treatment 4 while the growth in treatment 4 was higher treatment3.The total production of black carp in treatment 3 and 4 were 123 and 181kilogram per hectare respectively. The ANOVA test conducted for grass carp revealed that treatment 4 is significantly difference with treatment 3 and control. While for silver carp the treatment 4 is significantly difference with treatment 1 and control while for Big head carp the treatment 4 was significantly difference with control at 5% level (P< %5) .On second year the black carp reached to acceptable market size which could be compatible with other carp such as common carp and grass carp comparative analysis between different stocking density indicate that the stocking density with 125 pieces showed the highest positive effects.
