The paper considers effects of the sodium salt of penicillin, on the bioelectric activity of the visual analyzer structures in rabbits. Penicillin was injected into the amygdale, and a focus was created in this structure. Modeling the epileptic focus in amygdale allows to detect the spread of excitation as in motor structures of the brain (clonic convulsions), and in various structures of the visual analyzer. A comparative analysis of the electrical activity of specific (visual cortex, superior colliculus) and non-specific structures (suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus) of the visual analyzer was performed in norm and after epileptic attacks. For this purpose, a coherent analysis of the electrical activity of the above-mentioned structures was performed in normal and after epileptic seizures. The experiments were carried out on rabbits. Registration and analysis of the electroencephalogram of various brain structures was performed by using the automated system "Brainsys". It is also established that there is a change in the coherent bonds between the structures of the visual analyzer after epileptic seizures. The coherence coefficient, except for the alpha range, increased in all structures compared with the background. The change in coherent bonds after epileptic seizures is explained by the activation of functional interactions between the structures of the central nervous system. The presence of highamplitude theta and delta waves in the electroencephalogram indicates functional changes in the central nervous system. It is known that the visual analyzer has complex differentiated properties of plasticity. After epilepsy with the help of endogenous compensatory mechanisms it forms a new relationship between the structures of the central nervous system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: We hypothesized that the current gold standard for risk stratification of patients with acute heart failure (AHF), the Multiple Estimation of risk based on the Emergency department Spanish Score In patients with AHF (MEESSI-AHF) risk score, can be further improved by adding systemic inflammation as quantified by C-reactive protein (CRP)., Methods and Results: In a prospective multicentre diagnostic study (BASEL V), AHF was centrally adjudicated by two independent cardiologists. The MEESSI-AHF risk score was calculated using an established reduced and recalibrated model containing 12 independent risk factors. Model extension was performed by refitting and adding CRP in the logistic regression model with 30-day mortality as binary outcome. Discrimination, calibration and clinical usefulness were used to assess the performance of the extended Multiple Estimation of risk based on the Emergency department Spanish Score In patients (MEESSI) model. Validation was performed in an independent, retrospective and single-centre AHF cohort. Among 1208 AHF patients with complete data allowing calculation of the recalibrated MEESSI and the extended MEESSI models, the prognostic accuracy for 30-day mortality of the extended MEESSI model (c-statistic 0.83, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.79-0.87) was significantly higher compared to the recalibrated model (c-statistic 0.79, 95% CI 0.75-0.83, p = 0.013). The extended model allowed to stratify a higher percentage of patients into the lowest risk group compared to the recalibrated model (33.1% vs. 20.3%). Demonstrating a calibration plot's slope of 1.00 (95% CI 0.81-1.19) and an intercept of 0.0 (95% CI -0.22 to 0.22), the extended MEESSI model achieved excellent and improved calibration. Results were confirmed in the independent validation cohort (n = 575)., Conclusions: Quantifying inflammation using CRP concentration provided incremental value in AHF risk stratification using the established MEESSI model., (© 2024 The Author(s). The paper is focused on biological activity and theoretical study of the structure and properties of a new azo derivative of β-diketones and its complexes with some metals. The aim of our work was to study the structure and properties of the newly synthesized compound as well as to theoretically determine the possibility of complex formation with the Cu(II) or Co(II) ions. A compound with the same substituents R 1 =R 2 =CH 3 was chosen for the study. A synthesized azo compound based on 4-amino antipyrine and its complexes with Cu(II), Co(II) in solution and solid phase is reported. The structures of these compounds have been testified by X-ray, IR and  NMR spectroscopy. The combined experimental and theoretical approach was used. To study the structure and properties of the synthesized compound, as well as its possible complex formation with the Cu(II), quantum-chemical calculations were carried out the 6-31G basis set and the electron density functional theory (DFT) method. These 3-(1-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl-pyrazolone-5) azopentadione-2,4 (PDPA) with Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes had effective inhibition against butyrylcholinesterase and acetylcholinesterase. IC 50 values were found as 19.03, 3.64 μM for AChE and 28.47, 8.01 μM for BChE, respectively. A synthesized azo compound based on 4-amino antipyrine and its complexes with Ni(II) in solution and solid phase is reported. The structures of these compounds have been testified by IR and NMR spectroscopy. The combined experimental and theoretical approach was used. To study the structure and properties of the synthesized compound, as well as its possible complex formation with the Ni(II), ab initio quantum-chemical calculations were carried out using the Hartree-Fock (HF) method with the 6-31 G basis set and the electron density functional theory (DFT) method with hybrid three-parameter potential B3LYP and extended basis set 6-311++G(d,p) taking into account polarization and diffuse functions for all atoms. The geometric, energy, and electronic parameters were calculated and analyzed. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap has been calculated to determine chemical activity. Both complexes had effective inhibition against butyrylcholinesterase and acetylcholinesterase. IC50 values were found as 19.43 and 27.08 µM for AChE, 2.37 and 7.40 µM for BChE, respectively. For the anticancer outcome, high doses of compound E1 inhibited viability by about 40-45%, while this rate was around 65-70% for compound E2 at the same doses. Anticholinesterase and anticancer potential of compounds E1 and E2 also evaluated by in silico techniques. Both compounds show strong binding to VEGFR1, with E2 exhibiting superior inhibitory activity in hAChE and hBChE through shorter and stronger interactions. MD simulations suggest that E2 forms more stable complexes with hAChE and hBChE compared to E1, making it a promising candidate for further exploration in anticancer and anticholinesterase therapies.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Objective: To study clinical and epidemiological characteristics of Parkinson's disease (PD) in Baku., Material and Methods: The authors retrospectively collected information on the newly diagnosed and all patients diagnosed with PD in outpatient clinics in Baku in 2010-2019. A prospective observation was carried out in the clinic of the Department of Neurology of the Azerbaijan Medical University in 2019, where 2% of patients diagnosed with PD, who were registered in the dispensary, respectively in 2010-2019 (a total of 125 patients), were hospitalized by random selection., Results: The trend in the dynamics of incidence (Y=0.4747x+7.0665; R 2 =0.9731) and prevalence (Y=0.9776x+100.9; R 2 =0.9271) is described by a linear equation with a high degree of approximation. With age, the prevalence of PD increases and its greatest value was observed at the age of 70-79 years (186.7 per 100.000 population). In all age groups, the difference in the prevalence of PD in the female and male populations is significant ( p <0.01). The proportion of patients in the first, second, third, fourth and fifth stages was 18.8; 37.5; 26.6; 11.1 and 6.0%, respectively. The values of these indicators in the groups of men (18.7; 37.5; 29.6; 7.7; 6.5%) and women (28.8; 37.6; 22.3; 16.0; 5.3%) are basically similar., Conclusions: In Baku, there is a clearly expressed trend of growth in the incidence and prevalence of PD, the levels of which for 2010-2019 years fluctuated in the interval 7.4-12.0 and 101.4-110.6 per 100.000 population, respectively. The most noticeable clinical and epidemiological characteristic of PD in Baku is the prevalence of patients in the second stage of disease (37.5%) as well as males (59.4%).

Objective: To examine the acceptability and feasibility of early medical abortion using mifepristone and misoprostol in Azerbaijan., Methods: A total of 863 women in Baku and two regions of Azerbaijan who sought termination of gestations up to 63 days were enrolled in the study. In the capital, women swallowed 200 mg mifepristone in the clinic and were given the option of taking 800 μg misoprostol buccally either at the clinic or at home 24-48 hours later. In the regions, women were given the option of taking both drugs at home. Follow-up visits were to take place two weeks after mifepristone administration to determine abortion status., Results: Seventy-four percent of women in the regions chose home administration of mifepristone, and 92% of women from all locations selected misoprostol home administration. Ninety-seven percent of women had complete abortions, and 97% were satisfied or very satisfied with the method. The vast majority of participants preferred medical abortion for a future procedure (96%). Nearly all women (98%) would recommend medical abortion for pregnancy termination to a friend., Conclusion: Mifepristone-misoprostol medical abortion with the option of home administration of both drugs is an acceptable and feasible option for women in Azerbaijan.
