The theory of connection between respiratory and gastrointestinal systems is a key topic in different types of traditional medicine. In this study, we discussed the history, main concepts of this theory along with related studies and its possible clinical applications. In this regard numerous scattered studies have shown a relationship between upper and lower respiratory disorders and gastrointestinal symptoms. Numerous epidemiologic, pathophysiologic and clinical evidence confirm the interrelationship and integrated functioning of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. It seems that the holistic approach that emphasizes the link between the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems in traditional Persian medicine, is in line with the theory of united mucosa that has been considered in recent years. The interaction between the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems can occur through several mechanisms, including commonalities in embryonic sources, role of identical mediators and receptors, influence of common pathogens in the lungs and gut, similarity of microbiota patterns and changes, and same inflammatory and mucosal responses. We believe that this theory can provide new insight for the approaches to respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders in the light of holistic medical knowledge. Also, further research should be conducted to identify the exact paths and mechanisms of communication between respiratory and gastrointestinal systems.

Objectives: Assessment of mechanical properties of composite resins is important since they can affect the clinical performance and longevity of restorations. This study aimed to assess and compare different properties of dental composite resins available in the market. Materials and Methods: In this comparative study, samples of four different dental composite resins (Edge COM, Saremco, FGM, and Kulzer) were tested according to ISO 4049:2019 guidelines. Flexural strength (by using a universal testing machine), depth of cure (using the ISO 4049 scrape technique), radiopacity (with aluminum step wedge), water sorption/solubility (by using immersion and drying cycles), and shade (by using Vita Easy Shade) of the samples were assessed. Abstract In this study, distributed event‐and self‐triggered (ST) control methods are proposed for accurate load sharing and voltage control in islanded AC microgrids with resistive line impedances. The proposed control framework is comprised of a two‐level control structure. At the primary level, the V‐I droop control method is adopted. In this method, the distributed energy resources (DERs) are synchronised to a common synchronous reference frame and load sharing is accomplished through voltage‐current droop characteristics in this frame. The secondary level, which has a distributed structure, mitigates the voltage deviations induced by the primary level and eliminates the current sharing error caused by the line impedances. The data exchange among the DERs is controlled using event‐ and ST algorithms. In order to reduce the communication burden, the feedback control laws are realised using estimated variables, which are updated at certain event times. The event times are extracted based on Lyapunov stability analysis and by consideration of the V‐I droop characteristics. Comparison of event and ST algorithms shows that while the event‐triggered strategy offers superior dynamic response, the ST approach requires lower network traffic. The efficacy of the proposed scheme is verified through real time simulation results.

Plasmacytoma is an abnormal proliferation of monoclonal B-cells, and it can occur in several forms including multiple myeloma, solitary plasmacytoma of the bone, and extramedullary plasmacytoma primary. The solitary plasmacytoma of the bone accounts for about 3-10% of all plasma cell neoplasms, and occurs most often in the vertebrae, whereas the solitary plasmacytoma of the mandible is an extremely rare occurrence. This case report presents a 61-year-old woman with various underlying diseases diagnosed with solitary plasmacytoma of the mandible. This case is very well documented with radiographic imagery, clinical, and histopathological findings.

Abstract Background Shortly after the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a considerable number of recovered patients reported persisting symptoms, especially neuropsychological manifestations, which were later named post-COVID syndrome (PCS). Immune dysregulation was suggested as one of the main mechanisms for PCS. Fluvoxamine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that is mostly used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, and obsessive–compulsive disorder, has been suggested as an anti-COVID drug due to its anti-inflammatory effects, mainly through the sigma-1 receptor. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate fluvoxamine's effect on PCS neuropsychiatric symptoms. Method In this double-blind randomized clinical trial, we included confirmed mild to moderate COVID-19 outpatients using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by an infectious disease specialist. The presence of severe COVID-19 symptoms was evaluated by the infectious disease specialist and included dyspnea, SpO2 30 breaths/min, and lung infiltrates > 50%. Then we performed permuted block randomization and assigned patients 1:1 into two groups to either receive fluvoxamine 100 mg tablet or a placebo daily for 10 days. Eligible patients were evaluated after 12 weeks for the presence of fatigue, as the primary, and other PCS symptoms as secondary outcomes. Results We screened a total of 486 patients from March to June 2022. After 12 weeks, 42 patients receiving fluvoxamine and 43 patients receiving Placebo were evaluated for PCS. Patients had a mean age of 38.5 ± 14.1 and 48% of them were women. Fatigue was significantly lower in the fluvoxamine group (p-value 0.026). No significant differences were observed in other symptoms. Conclusion We concluded that taking fluvoxamine during active COVID-19 can reduce the chance of fatigue but the advantage of fluvoxamine was not observed for other symptoms. Further studies are necessary to confirm these preliminary results.

Several vaccine candidates for COVID-19 have been developed, and few vaccines received emergency approval with an acceptable level of efficacy and safety. We herein report the development of the first recombinant protein-based vaccine in Iran based on the recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in its monomeric (encompassing amino acid 1-674 for S1 and 685-1211 for S2 subunits) and trimer form (S-Trimer) formulated in the oil-in-water adjuvant system RAS-01 (Razi Adjuvant System-01). The safety and immunity of the candidate vaccine, referred to as RAZI-COV PARS, were evaluated in Syrian hamster, BALB/c mice, Pirbright guinea pig, and New Zeeland white (NZW) rabbit. All vaccinated animals received two intramuscular (IM) and one intranasal (IN) candidate vaccine at 3-week intervals (days 0, 21, and 51). The challenge study was performed intranasally with 5×106 pfu of SARS-CoV-2 35 days post-vaccination. None of the vaccinated mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, or rabbits showed any changes in general clinical observations; body weight and food intake, clinical indicators, hematology examination, blood chemistry, and pathological examination of vital organs. Introduction: Although neurologic involvement and neuroimaging abnormalities have been frequently identified in COVID-19 patients, the underlying factors remain unclear. In this study, we assessed the association of the neurological manifestations and neuroimaging features of hospitalized COVID-19 patients with their clinical, laboratory, and imaging characteristics. Methods: This multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted between September 2020 and March 2021 at two large academic hospitals in Tehran, Iran. We used census sampling from medical records to enroll hospitalized patients with a positive COVID-19 Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test who underwent brain imaging due to presenting any acute neurologic symptom during hospital stay. Results: Of the 4372 hospitalized patients with COVID-19, only 211 met the inclusion criteria (35.5% with severe infection). Central nervous system and psychiatric manifestations were significantly more common in severe cases (p ≤ 0.044). Approximately, 30% had a new abnormality on their neuroimaging, with ischemic (38/63) and hemorrhagic (16/63) insults being the most common. The most frequent reasons that provoked cranial imaging were headache (27%), altered consciousness (25.6%), focal neurologic signs (19.9%), and delirium (18%). Analysis revealed a positive correlation for age, neutrophilia, lymphopenia, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP) with the emergence of neuroimaging abnormalities (p ≤ 0.018). In addition, patients with new neuroimaging abnormalities had a significantly higher lung CT score than those without any pathologic findings (11.1 ± 4.8 vs. 5.9 ± 4.8, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Approximately 30% of the study population had various acute neuroimaging findings. The lung CT score, neutrophil count, and age were strong predictors of acute neuroimaging abnormalities in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the safety and immunogenicity of a combined intramuscular/intranasal recombinant spike protein COVID-19 vaccine (RCP). Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase I trial. Three vaccine strengths were compared with an adjuvant-only preparation. It included two intramuscular and a third intranasal dose. Eligible participants were followed for adverse reactions. Specific IgG, secretory IgA, neutralizing antibodies, and cell-mediated immunity were assessed. Results: A total of 153 participants were enrolled (13 sentinels, 120 randomized, 20 non-randomized open-labeled for IgA assessment). No related serious adverse event was observed. The geometric mean ratios (GMRs) and 95% CI for serum neutralizing antibodies compared with placebo two weeks after the second injection were 5.82 (1.46–23.13), 11.12 (2.74–45.09), and 20.70 (5.05–84.76) in 5, 10, and 20 µg vaccine groups, respectively. The GMR for anti-RBD IgA in mucosal fluid two weeks after the intranasal dose was 23.27 (21.27–25.45) in the 10 µg vaccine group. The humoral responses were sustained for up to five months. All vaccine strengths indicated a strong T-helper 1 response. Conclusion: RCP is safe and creates strong and durable humoral and cellular immunity and good mucosal immune response in its 10 µg /200 µL vaccine strengths. Several redox-relevant micronutrients are known to contribute to an adequate immune response, including the essential trace elements zinc (Zn) and selenium (Se). In this study, we tested the hypothesis that COVID-19 patients are characterised by Zn deficiency and that Zn status provides prognostic information. Serum Zn was determined in serum samples (n = 171) collected consecutively from patients surviving COVID-19 (n = 29) or non-survivors (n = 6). In light of various supports of prodigious figures in the field of immunology and allergy, the subject area has been faced a great leap during the last century. The current state of the discipline owes an abundant appreciation for the scholars motivated in escalating the true nature of the science, who left no stone unturned in improving the general common sense and understanding of the human knowledge in general, and immunology and allergy in particular. Professor Reza Farid Hosseini is among the dignitaries who invested his life and energy on weaving the tapestry of the immunology and allergy. He delivered a great deal of influence on the field by his ethical devotion to science and was a significant contributor in the realms of the human immune system. His presence drastically rehabilitated the place of the Immunology in Iran, and the current paper seeks to review the personal and academic life of Professor Reza Farid Hosseini in honor and appreciation for his in-depth involvement in the field. The paper summarizes Professor Farid’s childhood, school, and higher education, compilations, and translation of books, his contribution to the research both inside and outside of Iran, and scientific activities of Dr. Farid Hosseini.

The purpose of this article is to study the isometries between vector-valued absolutely continuous function spaces, over compact subsets of the real line. Indeed, under certain conditions, it is shown that such isometries can be represented as a weighted composition operator.

Context: Allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis (AR) and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases are the most common chronic diseases among children. Although the cause of AR has yet to be clearly identified, genetic and environmental factors are known to play an important role in the development of the disease. Evidence Acquisition: In a more recent classification, AR is categorized as intermittent and permanent. Vitamin D has a known and important role in the absorption of calcium and preservation of bone density. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in children is reported to be between 30% and 50% in the world. Vitamin D confers the growth and development of the immune system including the development of regulatory T cells. Results: Two-thirds of the reviewed articles show a correlation between serum levels of vitamin D and allergic diseases, while the reaming ones demonstrate no correlation between vitamin D and AR and some even report a rise in the incidence of AR following the use of vitamin D supplement. Conclusions: It seems that further clinical trials and meta-analytic studies are necessary to confirm this correlation. The present study aimed at reviewing vitamin D deficiency in children with AR.

ABSTRACT Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory and complex disease in children with many contributing (including genetic and environmental) factors. This study aims to review the impact of infections in children with asthma. Different websites including Googlescholar, Yahoo, Pubmed, SID.IR, MAGIRAN, IRANDOC, IRANMEDEX ,Embase and Hand searching were searched for pertinent articles with keywords asthma, pediatric, infection, virus, bacteria, and fungus. Out of the results, full articles relevant to pediatric asthma were selected. Acute respiratory infections caused by Chlamydia pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pneumoniae are involved in 5%-30% of wheezing events and asthma attacks. Viral infections were previously found in 24%-34% of asthmatic children, but technological advancements have revealed them to be present in 77%-81% of cases, with rhinovirus found in 47%, Respiratory Syncytial Virusin 21%, and the rest (including influenza, parainfluenza, adenovirus, coronavirus, and enterovirus) accounting for 2%-5% each. Viral respiratory infections are basically the major trigger for asthma symptoms and attacks in children. No causal relationship has been established between asthma and viruses and bacteria.

Conclusion: Although no significant difference was found in flexural strength of the tested composites, they had differences in other properties. The empowerment of people in the society by synergizing the components of social capital (awareness, cohesion, trust and participation) causes transformation in that society. The aim of this study was to investigate the Philosophy and the role of cooperatives in the development of social capital. The statistical population of this study were women members of microcredit funds in Marvdasht Township in Iran. According to the database information, they include 2000 and from this number, 200 statistical samples were selected based on Cochran’s sampling formula and completely randomly. The main research tool was a questionnaire. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed using the opinions of university professors and experts, and its reliability was also confirmed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient higher than 80%. The results of the research showed that the index of social capital and components of awareness, trust, participation, cohesion and networks were weak in women. The results of the study showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the empowerment of fund members and social capital (awareness, cohesion, trust, participation and networking). Among the factors affecting social capital, risk-taking with a beta coefficient of 0.637 has been the most important factor affecting the development of social capital of women members of credit funds. The results of the research emphasize that people’s participation in cooperative activities will create a social base for people and then social identity and cohesion for them, which will ultimately lead to the empowerment of rural women. Agro-tourism in the Republic of Serbia represents an increasingly significant sector of rural development, blending agriculture and tourism into an appealing whole. The aim of this study is to identify and quantify the factors significantly contributing to the development of agro-tourism, taking into account the role of community and government support, economic benefits, environmental and social impacts, as well as infrastructure and safety. The results indicate that community and government support crucially influence agro-tourism development, while economic benefits and environmental and social impacts have a smaller but positive influence. Infrastructure and safety show the least impact. This study is significant as it provides empirical evidence on factors contributing to agro-tourism development, enabling decision-makers, practitioners, and communities to strategically enhance and support the growth of this sector. The innovation of the study lies in its comprehensive approach, integrating multidimensional analysis of the impacts of various factors on agro-tourism development, which has not been extensively explored before, thus offering new insights and guidelines for more effective policies and practices in this field.

Purpose- The present study aims to investigate the interrelationship between information and communication technology (ICT) improvement, destination brand image, destination satisfaction, and destination personality, and how ICT improvement influences tourists' intention to return during the pandemic COVID -19. Design, methodology, approach- The statistical population consisted of Iranian tourists who had stayed in hotels in Iran during CPVID-19. A questionnaire was developed and distributed, and 310 usable questionnaires were received. To test the hypotheses, confirmatory factor analysis was performed using Smart PLS3. Findings- Our results showed that ICT improvement had a significant, positive impact on tourists' revisit intentions and destination brand image during the pandemic COVID -19. Destination brand image also had a significant influence on revisit intention, destination satisfaction, and destination personality. In addition, destination satisfaction and destination personality were significantly related to revisit intention during the pandemic. Originality of the research- This study pioneered the evaluation of ICT in the tourism industry, focusing on the hospitality industry during the pandemic COVID -19. It also examined the direct impact of ICT improvements on revisit intentions during the pandemic. In addition, this study provides evidence for managers to more effectively leverage ICT potential to improve destination brand image and encourage customers to revisit during a pandemic.
