The care service for women victims of violence constitutes a risk space for the manifestation of burnout syndrome and secondary post-traumatic stress disorder caused by listening to traumatic experiences. Therefore, this article aims to present a comparative picture of cross-cultural research carried out in Brazil and Spain with 32 subjects. The objectives are: to describe the work conditions, investigate the experience of attending to female victims of violence, and observe the self-care practices the professional group carried out at the personal, professional, collective, and institutional levels. The analysis of data from the Brazilian context was performed with Iramuteq through the descending hierarchical classification, which resulted in five classes, namely: assistance to women victims of violence; conflicts, violence, and professional activity; authors of harassment practices and working conditions; self-care personnel; managing obstacles in the work environment. The results collected from the Spanish professionals were also subjected to the same data analysis, resulting in five classes: trajectory, professional performance and working conditions; assistance to women victims of violence and forms of self-care; complaints about conflict and violence; personal self-care; forms of harassment and conflict. The elaboration that confronted the categories of the two surveys identified similarities regarding the subjective experience and distancing in the self-care characteristics undertaken by Brazilian and Spanish professionals. This study proposes to reflect on the institutional dynamics of these environments.

This work deals with clinical text mining for automatic classification of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) with respect to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). ICD is the international standard for the identification of diseases and health conditions in EHRs and the foundation for reporting health statistics. Machine learning-based techniques have proven robust to infer classification models from EHRs. Since each EHR tends to involve multiple diseases, multi-label classification is required. The concern in this work is the versatility of the models inferred and their ability to generalise in two ways: as time goes ahead and across hospital services or health specialties. Indeed, in this work, we show the capabilities of a Bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) with GRU units and ELMo embeddings on two corpora (a corpus comprising a set of EHRs within the Basque Health System, namely Osakidetza, and the well-known MIMIC-III corpus). To delve into and assess the versatility of the models, we focus on their resilience across hospital admissions taken over two different years and also across six distinct hospital services. In addition, we paid attention to the classification performance to estimate ICD codes of different granularity (e.g. with or without essential modifiers). Our best results are 39.55% and 47.28% F-Score for the Osakidetza and MIMIC-III datasets respectively, with the original main label-sets. Regarding the models evaluated per specialty, the most remarkable results are 57.00% and 72.74% F-Score, in the Cardiology and Nephrology medical services respectively.

Expressing double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) in transgenic plants to silence essential genes within herbivorous pests is referred to as trans-kingdom RNA interference (TK-RNAi) and has emerged as a promising strategy for crop protection. However, the dicing of dsRNA into siRNAs by the plant’s intrinsic RNAi machinery may reduce this pesticidal activity. Therefore, genetic constructs, encoding ~200nt duplex-stemmed-hairpin (hp) RNAs, targeting the acetylcholinesterase gene of the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera, were integrated into either the nuclear or the chloroplast genome of Nicotiana benthamiana. Undiced, full-length hpRNAs accumulated in transplastomic lines of N. benthamiana and conferred strong protection against H. armigera herbivory while the hpRNAs of nuclear-transformed plants were processed into siRNAs and gave more modest anti-feeding activity. This suggests that there is little or no RNAi machinery or activity in the chloroplast, that hpRNAs produced within this organelle do not enter the cytoplasm, and that oral delivery of chloroplast-packaged intact hpRNA is a more effective means of delivering TK-RNAi than using nuclear encoded hpRNAs. This contrasts with a recently reported correlation between siRNA expression and effectiveness of TK-RNAi targeting the chitinase gene of H. armigera, but is consistent with reports of efficient TK-RNAi by dsRNA generated in chloroplasts by converging promoters flanking a pest gene sequence, and from very small (21nt-stem) hpRNAs resembling artificial miRNAs. Here we demonstrate that hpRNAs, constructed along the conventional design principles of plant RNAi constructs, but integrated into the chloroplast genome, are stable and effective over multiple generations and hold the promise of providing durable pest resistance in crops.

Insulin-dependent or type 1 diabetes is a prototypic autoimmune disease whose incidence steadily increased over the past decades in industrialized countries. Recent evidence suggests the importance of the gut microbiota to explain this trend. Here, non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice that spontaneously develop autoimmune type 1 diabetes were treated with different antibiotics to explore the influence of a targeted intestinal dysbiosis in the progression of the disease. A mixture of wide spectrum antibiotics (i.e. streptomycin, colistin and ampicillin) or vancomycin alone were administered orally from the moment of conception, treating breeding pairs, and during the postnatal and adult life until the end of follow-up at 40 weeks. Diabetes incidence significantly and similarly increased in male mice following treatment with these two antibiotic regimens. In NOD females a slight yet not significant trend towards an increase in disease incidence was observed. Changes in gut microbiota composition were assessed by sequencing the V3 region of bacterial 16S rRNA genes. Administration of the antibiotic mixture resulted in near complete ablation of the gut microbiota. Vancomycin treatment led to increased Escherichia, Lactobacillus and Sutterella genera and decreased members of the Clostridiales order and Lachnospiraceae, Prevotellaceae and Rikenellaceae families, as compared to control mice. Massive elimination of IL-17-producing cells, both CD4+TCRαβ+ and TCRγδ+ T cells was observed in the lamina propria of the ileum and the colon of vancomycin-treated mice. These results show that a directed even partial ablation of the gut microbiota, as induced by vancomycin, significantly increases type 1 diabetes incidence in male NOD mice thus prompting for caution in the use of antibiotics in pregnant women and newborns.

La estrategia básica para el desarrollo de programas de lucha contra la hidatidosis es en la actualidad la de atención primaria de la salud. En el presente trabajo, y en ese marco, se instrumenta un sistema de detección precoz de la hidatidosis basado en el diagnóstico inmunológico mediante la técnica de Elisa, a partir de muestras de sangre capilar tomadas en papel de filtro por maestras y agentes sanitarios de los servicios oficiales de la provincia de Rio Negro. Fueron entrenadas 177 maestras y 45 agentes sanitarios correspondientes a 25 escuelas, 3 albergues y 9 hospitales, todos del medio rural. Se obtuvieron 890 muestras de sangre durante el entrenamiento. Posteriormente el personal entrenado instrumentó el sistema obteniendo 728 muestras al inicio del programa. No hubo diferencias estadísticas en la reactividad de ambas muestras. La prevalencia serológica hallada fue del 1.32%. La actividad desplegada por maestras y agentes sanitarios permitió detectar 21 casos nuevos, lo cual constituyó el 20% de los casos nuevos diagnosticados en el área en el período de trabajo. Se discute la viabilidad y la importancia de la incorporación de efectores no tradicionales en los Programas de Control de la Hidatidosis.The basic strategy for development of hydatid struggle programs is in the actuality: Primary Attention of Health. In the present work and in this instance, it's arm a precocious detection system of hydatid disease, fixed in immunologic diagnostic by means of ELISA technical beginning with blood capillary samples, taked in filter paper by teachers and sanitaries agents from official services of Rio Negro Province. 177 teachers and 45 sanitaries agents were trained, correspondent to 25 schools, 3 lodging schools and 9 Hospitals all of them from rural area. 890 blood samples during the training were obtained. Lastly, the trained personal armed the system and they obtained 728 samples in the beginning of the Program. It hadn't statistical differences in the reactivity of both samples. The serological prevalence found was 1.32%. The activity displayed by teachers and sanitaries agents permited to detect 21 new cases it was the 20% of new cases diagnosticated in this area in the period of work. The viability and the importance of the incorporation of non traditional effectors into the Hydatid Control Programs is discussed.

Early in 1995 the first case of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome was serologically confirmed in El Bolsón (Province of Río Negro, Argentina), corresponding to the third outbreak reported in Argentina. A total of 26 cases of HPS related to the Andean region of Rio Negro Province, were reported from 1993 to 1996, 17 in El Bolsón, 4 in San Carlos de Bariloche, and 5 in Buenos Aires. The incidence rate was 5.03 x 100000 with a mortality rate of 51.85 x 100. The occurrence of cases was mainly seasonal, with a significantly greater number in the spring, and the persons affected mainly lived in urban or periurban areas. In four cases, the affected individuals were members of a couple, spouses or live-in contacts. Seven cases were Health workers (physicians, nurses or administrative staff). Twelve cases were related among them, due to an outbreak of 80 days. Two of them did not visit the Andean region. A total of 139 rodents were captured and seven of them, Olygoryzomys longicaudatus, were found to be serologically positive. O índice de incidência foi de 5,03 x 100.000 com índice de mortalidade de 51,85 x 100. A ocorrência de casos foi principalmente sasonal, com números significativamente maiores na primavera, e as pessoas afetadas viviam principalmente nas áreas urbanas e periurbanas. Em 4 casos, os indivíduos afetados eram membros de um casal, esposas ou viviam em contato. Sete casos eram trabalhadores da Saúde (médicos, enfermeiras e pessoal administrativo). Doze casos estavam relacionados entre si, devidos a um surto de 80 dias. Dois deles não visitaram a região Andina. Um total de 139 roedores foram capturados e sete deles, Olygoryzomys longicaudatus, foram sorologicamente positivos. Background: The main objective of this study was to provide Spanish normative data for the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment-7 (GAD-7) in a community-derived sample of adolescents. Method: A total of 2,235 adolescents (M = 14.68 years, SD = 1.76 years), selected through stratified cluster sampling, participated in the study. Results: Self-reported symptoms of depression and anxiety were common. Statistically significant differences were found when comparing the means scores of PHQ-9 and GAD-7 across sex and age. Percentile scores were computed for both total scores and were stratified by sex and age. Conclusions: Both the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7 are brief, simple, and useful measurement instruments with adequate psychometric properties for the assessment of self-reported depressive and anxious symptomatology among Spanish adolescents. A reliable and valid assessment of mental health is essential, as it allows for early detection and identification, which in turn can help in guiding psychological preventive interventions in a critical human developmental stage such as adolescence.

Los programas de formación del profesorado universitario incluyen la enseñanza de la reflexión como medio para comprender y gestionar las situaciones de la propia práctica en el aula. Si bien el estudio de la enseñanza de la reflexión ha sido abordado ampliamente en la literatura, todavía resulta poco conocido cómo los formadores de dichos programas enseñan a reflexionar al mismo tiempo que abordan contenidos psico educativos sobre la enseñanza y aprendizaje en educación superior. En este estudio se aborda esta problemática centrando el análisis en las representaciones que los formadores del profesorado universitario tienen sobre la enseñanza de la reflexión, sus finalidades y características. Se entrevistó a 12 formadores de programas implementados en universidades chilenas de diferente composición y distribuidas a lo largo de todo el país. El análisis de contenido de las entrevistas mostró diversidad de enfoques y propuestas de implementación de la enseñanza de la reflexión por parte de los formadores. Se identificaron dos grandes finalidades en la enseñanza de la reflexión: mejorar la comprensión de la práctica e innovarla. Aunque en ambos casos los formadores utilizaron la experiencia de los docentes como punto central para la enseñanza de la reflexión; también se identificaron algunas diferencias en el uso del conocimiento académico. Además, los formadores se enfocaron mayoritariamente en el cuestionamiento, problematización y resolución de la práctica en análisis de casos, más que en la comprensión en profundidad de situaciones de la práctica. En suma, el estudio aporta resultados para la comprensión y mejora de la formación de la reflexión en la educación superior.

Background: The present study aims to analyze the prevalence of the problematic Internet use (PIU) among Spanish adolescents using the Compulsive Internet Use Scale (CIUS) and provide normative data. Method: The final sample consisted of a total of 1,977 (M age = 15.70, SD = 1.26, 53.7% female). Results: PIU were relatively common with many items seeing endorsement for between 6.5% and 33.1%. There were statistically significant differences both by gender. Females scored significantly more highly on four CIUS dimensions as well as total scores. With regards to age, we found statistically significant differences in preoccupation. No differences were found for the total score by age. Conclusions: Early detection strategies should be implemented in order to prevent PIU during adolescence, a critical developmental stage.

Intensive Care to facilitate Organ Donation (ICOD) consists of the initiation or continuation of intensive care measures in patients with a devastating brain injury (DBI) in whom curative treatment is deemed futile and death by neurological criteria (DNC) is foreseen, to incorporate organ donation into their end-of-life plans. In this study we evaluate the outcomes of patients subject to ICOD and identify radiological and clinical factors associated with progression to DNC. In this first prospective multicenter study we tested by multivariate regression the association of clinical and radiological severity features with progression to DNC. Of the 194 patients, 144 (74.2%) patients fulfilled DNC after a median of 25 h (95% IQR: 17–44) from ICOD onset. Two patients (1%) shifted from ICOD to curative treatment, both were alive at discharge. Factors associated with progression to DNC included: age below 70 years, clinical score consistent with severe brain injury, instability, intracranial hemorrhage, midline shift ≥5 mm and certain types of brain herniation. Overall 151 (77.8%) patients progressed to organ donation. Based on these results, we conclude that ICOD is a beneficial and efficient practice that can contribute to the pool of deceased donors.

Mental health problems and psychological adjustment difficulties among young people are emerging as a personal, family, educational, social, and health challenge. It is necessary to address this emerging social defiance by studying and implementing strategies to promote emotional well-being and prevent psychological problems in educational contexts. The aim of this work is to highlight, based on the epidemiological data derived from the PSICE (Evidence-based Psychology in Educational Contexts) project, the importance of addressing mental health in school settings. First, an introduction to the study of human behavior and psychological adjustment problems is given. Secondly, the importance of educational centers as the natural place to promote the psychological well-being and child and adolescent mental health is discussed. Thirdly, the prevalence results derived from the PSICE study are mentioned. To conclude, a summary section highlights the imperative need to promote, protect, and care for mental health during childhood and adolescence in educational settings. The promotion of psychological well-being and the prevention of mental health problems in educational contexts are the best investments on the part of societies, governments, and institutions.

Background and objectives: Variable diagnostic criteria and growth charts have been used for extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR). The objective was to assess the prevalence and concordance of EUGR in extremely-low-birthweight (ELBW) infants with the most frequent diagnostic criteria and growth charts. Materials and methods: An observational, retrospective and multicenter study was conducted from 2011 to 2020 including ELBW infants from the Spanish SEN1500 Network. EUGR prevalence was calculated at discharge using different definitions: cross-sectional (anthropometry less than the 10th centile), longitudinal (decrease of more than 1 SD from birth to discharge), “true” cross-sectional and “true” longitudinal (using the criteria previously described, excluding infants small for gestational age at birth). Concordance among Fenton, Olsen and INTERGROWTH-21st was assessed with Fleiss’ Kappa coefficient. Results: The prevalence of EUGR was variable with the different definitions and growth references studied in the 7914 ELBW infants included. Overall, it was higher with Fenton for all the EUGR criteria studied by weight and length. The agreement among growth charts was substantial (κ > 0.6) for all the definitions except for longitudinal EUGR by weight (moderate, κ = 0.578). Conclusions: The prevalence of EUGR was variable in our cohort with the different diagnostic criteria and growth charts. The agreement among charts was good for all the definitions of EUGR except longitudinal EUGR by weight.

AimsTo evaluate the synergistic impact of diet, lifestyle and technology on glycemic control in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D).MethodsThis cross-sectional study included 112 randomly selected patients with T1D from Gran Canaria (median age 12 years; 51.8% female). The study collected data on height, weight, body composition (bioimpedance), age, disease duration, and method of insulin delivery. Physical activity was evaluated using the Krece questionnaire and an accelerometer (GENEActiv). Adherence to the Mediterranean diet was assessed using the KIDMED Quick Nutrition Test. Glycemic control was evaluated using HbA1c and the percentage of time in range. SPSS version 21 and RStudio were used for statistical analysis of the data. Stepwise linear regression analysis (backwards) was used to identify factors independently associated with metabolic control.ResultsInsulin pump use, age and adherence to the Mediterranean diet were found to be significantly and independently associated with better glycemic control, whereas years with T1D was associated with worse HbA1c values. No relationship was found between body composition and physical activity measured by accelerometry or questionnaire.ConclusionAdherence to the Mediterranean diet, insulin delivery methods, age, and number of years with T1D are important factors to consider in the management of T1D in children.

Background: The aim of the PSICE (Evidence-based Psychology in Educational Contexts) Project is to examine the effectiveness of the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Adolescents (UP-A) with symptoms of anxiety and depression in school settings. The goal is to prevent emotional problems and to improve adolescents’ socioemotional adjustment, learning processes, and academic performance. Method: A randomized controlled trial with two groups will be performed: active control (progressive relaxation training) and experimental (UP-A). After screening, participants with subclinical emotional symptomatology will be selected for pre- and post-test evaluation and follow-up at 6, 12, and 18 months. Results: The impact of different indicators at behavioral, cognitive, affective, social and academic functioning levels will be analyzed, as well as their effects in the short, medium and long term. Conclusions: Examining the effectiveness of the UP-A in the Spanish educational context will, among other things, provide data for informed decision-making in the field of educational psychology. In addition, it will ensure that such interventions, using standardized protocols, are accessible to a large population at such an important stage of human development as adolescence. The PSICE project will provide leadership and guidance on the importance of psychology in schools.

Abstract Objectives Problematic Internet Use (PIU) has become a worldwide problem in recent years. Among screening instruments for PIU, the Compulsive Internet Use Scale (CIUS) is perhaps the most widely used. Psychometric properties of the full CIUS are not convincing, however, and the short form (CIUS‐S) has shown promising results, albeit limited to the English version, with little evidence in Spanish. Therefore, the aim of the present work was to study the psychometric properties of the CIUS‐S scores in a large sample of Spanish adolescents. Method The sample consisted of 1790 participants, 816 male (45.6%), 961 female (53.7%), and 13 other (0.7%) . Mean age was 15.70 years (SD = 1.26). Results The five‐items one‐dimensional model displayed appropriate goodness‐of‐fit indices. Strong measurement invariance model across age and partial across gender was found. Furthermore, the CIUS‐S was positively associated with several indicators of poor well‐being and mental health, and negatively associated with prosocial behavior, self‐esteem, and feeling of belonging. Conclusion Overall, the CIUS‐S scores appear reliable and valid in its Spanish version for adolescent populations, supporting its aim to detect and prevent a problem that has become a major worldwide issue in the last years.

Suicide is a serious public health problem. The main goal of this paper is to carry out a narrative review of suicidal behavior in adolescents. Basically, the aim is twofold: to provide updated information and to introduce mental health professionals and society to this topic for their training and knowledge. To this end, first, a conceptual delimitation of suicidal behavior is produced. Second, epidemiological issues are addressed. Third, psychological models of suicidal behavior are presented, along with the possible explanations underlying this phenomenon. Fourth, the risk and protective factors for suicidal behavior are mentioned. Next, assessment tools for this sector of the population are introduced. Subsequently, prevention strategies are discussed, focusing on the importance of educational environments. Empirically supported psychological treatments for dealing with suicidal behavior are also proposed. Finally, future lines of research are discussed, and a brief summary is made.

Background. Consent model and intent to donate registries are often the most public facing aspects of an organ and tissue donation and transplantation (OTDT) system. This article describes the output of an international consensus forum designed to give guidance to stakeholders considering reform of these aspects of their system. Methods. This Forum was initiated by Transplant Québec and cohosted by the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Program partnered with multiple national and international donation and transplantation organizations. This article describes the output of the consent and registries domain working group, which is 1 of 7 domains from this Forum. The domain working group members included administrative, clinical, and academic experts in deceased donation consent models in addition to 2 patient, family, and donor partners. Topic identification and recommendation consensus was completed over a series of virtual meetings from March to September 2021. Consensus was achieved by applying the nominal group technique informed by literature reviews performed by working group members. Results. Eleven recommendations were generated and divided into 3 topic groupings: consent model, intent to donate registry structure, and consent model change management. The recommendations emphasized the need to adapt all 3 elements to the legal, societal, and economic realities of the jurisdiction of the OTDT system. The recommendations stress the importance of consistency within the system to ensure that societal values such as autonomy and social cohesion are applied through all levels of the consent process. Conclusions. We did not recommend one consent model as universally superior to others, although considerations of factors that contribute to the successful deployment of consent models were discussed in detail. We also include recommendations on how to navigate changes in the consent model in a way that preserves an OTDT system’s most valuable resource: public trust.

Abstract Application of intermittent forces by vibration is proposed as an easy‐to‐use accelerator of dental movement. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of intermittent vibrational force application during orthodontic aligner treatment on receptor activator of nuclear factor‐kappa B ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) concentrations in crevicular fluid as markers of bone remodeling. This three‐arm parallel randomized clinical trial included 45 candidates for malocclusion treatment with aligners, randomly assigned to: Group A (vibrational forces from onset of treatment); Group B (vibrational forces at 6 weeks after treatment onset); or Group C (no vibration). The frequency of aligner adjustment also differed among groups. At different time points, a paper tip was used to draw crevicular fluid samples from a moving lower incisor for RANKL and OPG analysis using ELISA kits. Mixed‐model ANOVA found no significant differences in RANKL (A: p = 0.31, B: p = 0.8, C: p = 0.49) or OPG (A: p = 0.24, B: p = 0.58, C: p = 0.59) over time in any group or as a function of the application/non‐application of vibration or the frequency of aligner adjustments. Application of this accelerator device did not significantly affect bone remodeling in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with aligners. However, a nonsignificant improvement in biomarker concentrations was observed when aligners were changed every 7 days and vibration was also applied. Further research is warranted to establish protocols for the application of vibration and the timing of aligner adjustments.

Summary: Background: Heart transplantation is an effective treatment offering the best recovery in both quality and quantity of life in those affected by refractory, severe heart failure. However, transplantation is limited by donor organ availability. The reintroduction of heart donation after the circulatory determination of death (DCD) in 2014 offered an uplift in transplant activity by 30%. Thoraco-abdominal normothermic regional perfusion (taNRP) enables in-situ reperfusion of the DCD heart. The objective of this paper is to assess the clinical outcomes of DCD donor hearts recovered and transplanted from donors undergoing taNRP. Method: This was a multicentre retrospective observational study. Outcomes included functional warm ischaemic time, use of mechanical support immediately following transplantation, perioperative and long-term actuarial survival and incidence of acute rejection requiring treatment. 157 taNRP DCD heart transplants, performed between February 2, 2015, and July 29, 2022, have been included from 15 major transplant centres worldwide including the UK, Spain, the USA and Belgium. 673 donations after the neurological determination of death (DBD) heart transplantations from the same centres were used as a comparison group for survival. Findings: taNRP resulted in a 23% increase in heart transplantation activity. Survival was similar in the taNRP group when compared to DBD. 30-day survival was 96.8% ([92.5%–98.6%] 95% CI, n = 156), 1-year survival was 93.2% ([87.7%–96.3%] 95% CI, n = 72) and 5-year survival was 84.3% ([69.6%–92.2%] 95% CI, n = 13). Interpretation: Our study suggests that taNRP provides a significant boost to heart transplantation activity. The survival rates of taNRP are comparable to those obtained for DBD transplantation in this study. The similar survival may in part be related to a short warm ischaemic time or through a possible selection bias of younger donors, this being an uncontrolled observational study. Therefore, our study suggests that taNRP offers an effective method of organ preservation and procurement. This early success of the technique warrants further investigation and use. Abstract Female moths emit sex pheromone to attracts males, and although they are not attracted to their own sex pheromone, they appear to detect it as it affects their behavior. In order to elucidate the mechanism of pheromone “autodetection” we compared responses of olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) of male and female Grapholita molesta, a species with reported pheromone autodetection. Two concentrations of the major (Z8-12:Ac) and minor (E8-12:Ac) sex pheromone components, a plant-volatile blend containing methyl salicylate, terpinyl acetate and (E)-β-farnesene, and the male-produced hair-pencil (i.e., courtship) pheromone (ethyl trans-cinnamate) were tested in 45 male and 305 female ORNs. Hierarchical cluster analysis showed radically different peripheral olfactory systems between sexes that could be linked to their specific roles. In males 63% of the ORNs were tuned specifically to the major or minor female sex pheromone components, and 4% to the plant volatile blend, while the remaining 33% showed unspecific responses to the stimulus panel. In females 3% of the ORNs were specifically tuned to the male hair-pencil pheromone, 6% to the plant volatile blend, 91% were unspecific, and no ORN was tuned their own sex pheromone components. The lack of sex pheromone-specific ORNs in females suggests that they are not able to discriminate pheromone blends, and thus pheromone autodetection is unlikely in this species. We discuss our results in the context of the methodological limitations inherent to odor stimulation studies.

The catalytic cycle for the bis-silylation reaction of alkynes promoted by palladium complexes is discussed on the basis of density functional theory (DFT) calculations at B3LYP level of computation. A model system formed by an acetylene molecule, a disilane molecule and the Pd(PH3)2 complex is used.
