Background: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is one of the most important ways to empower nursing. The perspective of nursing managers about EBP plays an important role in the process of accepting the use of EBP by nurses. On the other hand, identifying facilitator of and barriers to EBP is necessary to improve its implementation. This study aimed to determine the facilitators of and barriers to EBP from the perspective of Iranian nursing managers.Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 335 top nursing managers, who were selected by stratified random sampling from Iranian universities of medical sciences, was studied. The research instruments included three electronic questionnaires for demographics, barriers and facilitators of EBP. Data were analyzed in SPSS software using descriptive statistics and appropriate analytical tests.Results: A total of 277 individuals participated in the study (response rate of 80%), 51.6% of them were female (n=143) with an average age of 43/6±7 years. Iranian nursing managers believed that organizational factors were the most important domain for both EBP facilitators (34.7± 9.2) and barriers (28.37±6.2). Furthermore, the most important facilitator of EBP was manager’s increased support and encouragement (4.23±1.19) and the most important barrier was physicians’ not cooperating with nurses in applying research results (3.80±1.29).Conclusion: The findings of this study revealed the most important facilitator of and barriers to EBP, and especially emphasized the key role of organizational factors in the implementation of EBP. Identifying facilitator and barriers and creating an organizational culture supporting evidence-based practice are effective interventions that result in improving the quality of nursing care.

Background: Breast milk is the most suitable nutrition for the neonates. Breast milk and breastfeeding duration can contribute to decreased mortality rate, intestinal bleeding, and various neonatal diseases (e.g., digestive and respiratory diseases). It can also reduce the risk of diabetes and obesity in childhood and adulthood. Therefore, the estimation of breastfeeding duration and recognition of the effective factors in this regard can lead to designing and implementing appropriate programs, which can provide the foundations for the modification of breastfeeding behavior. Methods: This survival study was conducted on 501 mothers with healthy and single birth neonates born within March 21, 2011-September 21, 2012 with active medical records in Aqqala city, Golestan province, Iran, in the second half of 2014. The data were collected from the information registered at the archives of health centers by in-person visiting. In addition, some of the information was collected through phone contacts. The duration of breastfeeding was estimated in month. Data analysis was carried out using the Cox regression in the STATA software, version 11. Results: According to the results, the mean and median of breastfeeding were 20.44 and 22 months, respectively. According to the Cox regression, maternal ethnicity, living with family, birth spacing, type of milk consumed along with complementary nutrition, and type of neonatal nutrition during the hospital stay of the infant had a significant relationship with the early cessation of breastfeeding. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study and the identified factors affecting the breastfeeding duration, it seems necessary to provide the essential trainings for the young mothers and pregnant women to avoid of reducing the duration of breastfeeding. These educations can be included in the programs of the Health centers of the universities and urban and rural medical clinics. &nbsp

Aims: Nowadays, the pulse oximetry is widely used to monitor the oxygen saturation constantly. In the clinical care, it is observed that the ear pulse oximetry with the finger sensor is sometimes utilized in the ICUs. The aim of the study was to determine the accuracy of the ear pulse oximetry and the fingertip with the finger sensor in the ICU patients under the mechanical ventilation. Materials & Methods: In the analytic comparative study, 60 hospitalized patients under the mechanical ventilation in the ICU of Moddares Hospital in Kashmar Township were studied in 2015. The subjects were selected via available convenience sampling method. One finger pulse oximetry sensor having been attached to the upper part of the ear and the other to the fingertip, the arterial blood sampling was done simultaneously. Data was analyzed by SPSS 22 software using repeated ANOVA and Spearman correlation tests. Findings: Mean oxygen saturation percentage and the heartbeat of ear, fingertip, and arterial blood pulse oximetry were significantly different (p0.05). Conclusion: The utilization of ear pulse oximetry with the finger sensor on the fingertip cannot lead to accurate results of the oxygen saturation in the hospitalized patients in the ICU under the mechanical ventilation. However, in case of any reduction in the arterial blood oxygen pressure, the accuracy of the finger pulse oximetry starts to drop out.

Listerosis may be transmitted by direct contact with infected animals or by consumption of contaminated vegetables, meat, or milk products. Raw milk samples obtained from the Milk Industry Foundation, five private dairy companies, and individual dairy farms in Shahrekord, Iran, were tested for the presence of Listeria species. A total of 500 raw milk samples were analyzed by two-stage enrichment techniques. Identification of isolated Listeria was done using the Micro-ID Listeria Kit (Remel, Lenexa, KS). The overall incidence of Listeria species in raw milk was 2.2%. L. monocytogenes was found in 1.6% of the raw milk samples, while L. innocua was found in 0.6% of the samples. Additional studies are needed to assess the public health impact of contaminated milk in Shahrekord.
