Erysipeloid cutaneous leishmaniasis (ECL) is known as the chronic form of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). However, keeping its clinical presentation in view, there is a need to revisit this form of the disease.To describe ECL in view of clinical features and treatment modalities.We include a case series seen in Sfax (Southern Tunisia) from January 2017 to January 2021. All patients clinically suggestive and laboratory confirmed with a diagnosis of CL were registered. Patients of all age groups and of either gender having cutaneous lesions resembling erysipela on the face were included in the study. Different demographic features of the patients and clinical aspects were identified. Descriptive statistics were used for analysis.Of 1300 registered patients with CL, 40 (3%) were diagnosed as ECL. Ages ranged from 15 to 65 years, and duration of lesions varied from 15 to 180 days. All patients had lesions over the face. Clinically, a painful infiltrated inflammatory placard of the central facial area with a butterfly shape was observed in 14 cases, as well as zones of the cheekbone (11 cases), cheekbone and nose (5 cases), cheekbone and eyelid (8 cases), and cheekbone with ear (2 cases). Several therapeutic methods were prescribed with a sufficient result with no recurrence.ECL is a rare presentation that typically occurs on the face, looking like erysipelas, in patients who are native from an endemic region of CL.

In this study, a novel series of 5-amino-1H-pyrazole derivatives involving 2-furoyl moieties were synthesized in good yields from 2-cyano-3 ethoxyacrylonitrile or ethyl-2-cyano-3-ethoxyacrylate and of various furan-2-carbohydrazide compounds under microwave irradiation. We studied the reactivity of these new compounds toward the orthoesters using the same methodology. All structures were confirmed by analytical and spectral (FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analysis) techniques.

Background: The management of gastric adenocarcinoma is essentially based on surgery followed by adjuvant treatment. Adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) as well as chemoradiotherapy (CTRT) have proven their effectiveness in survival outcomes compared to surgery alone. However, there is little data comparing the two adjuvant approaches. This study aimed to compare the prognosis and survival outcomes of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma operated and treated by adjuvant radio-chemotherapy or chemotherapy Materials and methods: We retrospectively evaluated 80 patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LGC) who received adjuvant treatment. We compared survival outcomes and patterns of recurrence of 53 patients treated by CTRT and those of 27 patients treated by CT. Results: After a median follow-up of 38.48 months, CTRT resulted in a significant improvement of the 5-year PFS (60.9% vs. 36%, p = 0.03) and the 5-year OS (55.9% vs. 33%, p = 0.015) compared to adjuvant CT. The 5-year OS was significantly increased by adjuvant CTRT (p = 0.046) in patients with lymph node metastasis, and particularly those with advanced pN stage (p = 0.0078) and high lymph node ratio (LNR) exceeding 25% (p = 0.012). Also, there was a significant improvement of the PFS of patients classified pN2–N3 (p = 0.022) with a high LNR (p = 0.018). CTRT was also associated with improved OS and PFS in patients with lymphovascular and perineural invasion (LVI and PNI) compared to chemotherapy. Conclusion: There is a particular survival benefit of adding radiotherapy to chemotherapy in patients with selected criteria such as lymph node involvement, high LNR LVI, and PNI.

Smooth hound gels (SHGs) were prepared from the viscera by heat treatment at different pH values (2.0, 5.0, 7.0 and 9.0). Their physicochemical and functional properties, microstructure and molecular forces were investigated. The pH variation was found to influence the protein molecular weight distribution resulting in different gelling properties. According to sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) protein profiles, SHG-9 prepared at pH 9.0 contained the greatest amount of high molecular weight proteins. Further, the SHG-9 exhibited the highest gel strength, fracture resistance and elasticity. On the contrary, microstructure and infrared spectra analyses showed that acidic conditions provided gel networks with unarranged secondary structure and a high hydration level, which might be attributed to the formation of hydrogen bonds between polymer molecules. In addition, the molecular forces study showed that the primary dominated intermolecular forces involved in the SHGs were hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds, while the secondary forces included electrostatic interactions and disulfide bridges. These results were confirmed by the levels of free amino acids. Thus, this study identified opportunities to develop high value-added products from fish by-products that might be used to carry out the function of the desired food application.

Cutaneous leiomyosarcoma is a rare soft tissue sarcoma. We present a case of a 50-year-old man, with a rare location in the flank. Clinical presentation showed an ulcerative lesion. Imaging features were evocative of malignancy. Surgical excision was performed, involving oblique muscles. The diagnosis of low-grade leiomyosarcoma with free margins was made. No adjuvant therapy was indicated. Clinical and radiological follow-up of the patient during two years did not reveal recurrences. Cutaneous leiomyosarcoma of the flank is extremely rare and takes part in a group of infrequent and unknown tumors. Clinical presentation is unspecific and histological evidence is mandatory for diagnosis. Tumor extension in depth constitutes the major determinant factor for therapeutic management and prognosis. Wide surgical resection is crucial to minimize recurrence risk especially when poor prognostic factors take place.

The amination step has been carried out with hydroxylammonium chloride and does not require the use of a base. In the subsequent reduction step, a metal zinc/hydrochloride acid system has been used. This method is applicable to both aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes. The operational simplicity, the short reaction times, and the mild reaction conditions add to the value of this method as a practical alternative to the reductive amination of aldehydes.
