There is a growing global concern about the challenges of sustainable development. Furthermore, these concerns are becoming increasingly prevalent in Bangladesh on a daily basis. This may be attributed to the escalating influx of remittances, the degradation of natural resources, and the potential adverse impacts of economic growth on the ecosystem. Thus, this research looks at how remittances (REM) and natural resources (NR) affect the ecological footprint (EFP) in Bangladesh by controlling economic growth (EG), renewable energy (REN), and urbanization (URB) from 1990 to 2021. The study utilizes the linear and non‐linear autoregressive distributed lag model to test the relationships between REM and NR on EFP. Positive and negative shocks to REM and NR have varied consequences on EFP, which suggests an asymmetric relationship. The findings reveal that the impact of the positive shock on NR is positive and significant. It implies that an increase in the positive shock of NR causes a rise in EFP. However, the impact of the negative shock on NR is negative but statistically insignificant. Likewise, negative shock in REM decreases the EFP by increasing ecological quality, while positive shock in REM does not significantly impact EFP. Similarly, REN and URB improve the environmental quality in Bangladesh while EG decreases. Given the consequences for the climate and human well-being, there is unquestionable universal fear about the ecological impact of socioeconomic activity. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the effects of carbon tax and resource efficiency on environmental sustainability while controlling economic growth and total energy supply in France between 1995 and 2020. As a result, the empirical findings would shed light on ecological sustainability in France and spark new debate. This study employs a novel Fourier autoregressive distributed lag cointegration method for cointegration and a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag approach for long-run estimation. The empirical outcomes show that resource efficiency is negatively connected to environmental pollution. Moreover, the impact of a carbon tax on environmental pollution is negative. Lastly, energy use and economic growth positively influence environmental pollution. The study concludes that carbon taxes can help to achieve sustainable development goals and resource efficiency. The present study investigates the effect of public–private partnership investment in energy and renewable energy consumption on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, taking into account the critical role of economic growth and trade openness in Pakistan from 1992 to 2019. The linear and nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag models are employed to check the co-integration link between dependent and independent variables, further estimate short-run and long-run associations, and examine the symmetric and asymmetric effects of public–private partnership investment in energy on CO2 emissions in Pakistan. The empirical findings show that public–private partnership investment in energy reduces environmental quality by increasing CO2 emissions. Similarly, economic development and trade openness harms the atmosphere by raising CO2 emissions. On the other hand, renewable energy consumption significantly negatively affects CO2 emissions. In addition, the findings also authenticate the asymmetric link between public–private partnership investment in energy and the environment, as CO2 emissions are caused mainly by positive shocks in public–private partnership investment in energy in the short and long run. This paper investigates whether carbon dioxide (CO2) intensity of gross domestic product (GDP) matters for environmental deregulations in Southern European countries over the period of 1990–2018 while controlling economic growth, globalization, and energy consumption. The present study uses the second generation panel based techniques, namely cross-sectional dependency test, cross-sectional unit-root test, Westerlund cointegration test, augmented mean group and common correlated effects mean group estimators, and Dumitrescu–Hurlin causality test to measure the effect of CO2 intensity of GDP, economic growth, globalization, and energy consumption on environmental degradation. The empirical finding of the present study reveals that the CO2 intensity of GDP is an important factor in determining environmental degradation in South European countries, as the outcomes show that a 1% boost in CO2 intensity of GDP is causing a 1.7728% increase in CO2 emissions. Moreover, a 1% increase in economic growth caused a 0.2568% boost in CO2 emissions. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between financial instability and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in India from 1980 to 2020. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model is used to measure long-run and short-run dynamics, followed by the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to determine the causal direction. As per the findings of the study, financial instability has an insignificant effect on CO2 emissions. However, economic development, energy use, and urbanization have a detrimental effect on environmental quality because it releases a significant amount of CO2 emissions into the environment. Our empirical findings confirmed the presence of an environmental Kuznets curve. The outcomes of the VECM show that the long-run causality can be noticed in CO2 emissions, financial instability, energy use, and urbanization. Furthermore, the validity and reliability of the results were verified by using a variety of diagnostic tests. This research presents novel results that add to the current literature and may be of particular importance to the country's policymakers regarding the financial system and its importance in environmental problems. Concerns about income inequality and environmental pollution have stayed important aspects in reaching sustainable development objectives. However, economies continue to struggle with income inequality reduction and environmental degradation mitigation, all of which need significant consideration. Hence, the purpose of this research is to look into the relationship between income inequality, institutional quality, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in 42 developing countries from 1984 to 2016. Furthermore, the current study also investigates the role of institutional quality in moderating the relationship between income inequality and CO2 emissions. For empirical analysis, we used cross section dependence, cross section unit root, and Westerlund's cointegration test to confirm the cross section dependence, stationarity, and cointegration among variables. Moreover, for long-run estimates, we employed Driscoll Kraay regression. According to the Driscoll Kraay regression outcomes, rising income inequality (without interaction term) leads to rising CO2 emissions. However, (with interaction term) it shows a significant negative effect on CO2 emissions. The findings of the interaction term (LnISQXLnINE) disclose a significant negative effect on CO2. Moreover, an increase in institutional quality, economic development, energy consumption, industrialization, and trade openness significantly increase CO2 emissions in all the models. In addition, the square term of income inequality and economic growth depicts an inverted U-shaped association with CO2 emissions. The outcomes are also verified by the robustness check results acquired employing the fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) and pooled mean group (PMG). Furthermore, Dumitrescu and Hurlin's panel causal test reveals a bidirectional causality running from income equality, energy consumption, industrialization, economic growth, trade, and interaction term toward CO2 emissions. Although numerous studies in the literature have been conducted to model CO2 emissions, there is a lack of empirical knowledge of consumption‐based CO2 emissions, which are adjusted for international trade, specifically. Therefore, the present study aims to close this gap in the literature in the case of Italy, while capturing the asymmetric effect of trade, renewable energy, and economic growth on consumption‐based CO2 emissions. The present study uses the Gregory–Hansen test for cointegration with regime shifts, Markov switching regression, nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL), and frequency domain causality test. The study's outcomes reveal that (1) the asymmetric effect of import on consumption‐based CO2 emissions is positive, implying that rising import is associated with declining consumption‐based environmental quality; (2) export, renewable consumption, and economic growth reduce consumption‐based CO2 emissions in Italy. Moreover, these outcomes are supported by the outcomes of the frequency domain causality test. These innovative insights may prompt policy‐makers to implement eco‐friendly methods, such as renewable energy distribution and environmental innovation, to achieve a greener future. This unique study examines the moderation effect of institutional quality (IQ) on the relationship between financial inclusion (FI) and financial development (FD) of 45 Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries. For empirical analysis, panel data are used for the period 2000–2016. We use the Arellano–Bond generalized method of moments (GMM) and two-stage least-squares (2SLS) method in our estimations to draw multidimensional results. The empirical results confirm the significant positive relationship between FI, IQ and FD. Interestingly, we find that IQ moderates FI and has a significant positive impact on FD. Our findings are robust to alternative econometric specifications of FI, IQ and FD. Therefore, policymakers must sensibly understand the pivotal role of FI and IQ in establishing sustainable future development of OIC countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This innovative study examines the effect of financial inclusion measured by financial inclusion index (FII) on the economic growth of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) member countries. The data were collected on different elements of financial inclusion and economic growth for the period 2000–2016. To draw multi‐dimensional results, we have set up the panel data for 45 countries, and we estimated the generalized method of moments (GMM), two‐stage least squares (2SLS), panel vector autoregressive (VAR) and panel Granger causality tests. Based on the results of dynamic panel estimations, we find that FII has a positive effect on economic growth. The findings of Granger causality analysis reveals a bi‐directional causality of FII indicators with economic growth and a unidirectional causality between the FII and economic growth. Therefore, it suggests that the financial inclusion index has a positive effect on the economic growth in IsDB member countries. These findings recommend that the policymakers should consider financial inclusion as a driver of the economic growth in the long run. The issue of urbanization has gained much importance over the last few decades due to its significant influence on economic growth and environmental quality, especially in developing countries. The non-linearity puzzle has been a long-debated issue, and prior studies provide mixed evidence. This study addresses the issue of urbanization using the measure of urban agglomeration and investigates the non-linear relation between urbanization and CO2 emissions at the regional level. The South Asian region represents approximately one-fourth of the world population and its urbanization needs to be addressed properly. This paper uses the annual data over the period of 1974–2014 for four South Asian countries, namely, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. The panel cointegration tests establish the long-run relation between urbanization, urban agglomeration, economic growth, trade openness, energy consumption, financial development, and CO2 emissions. The fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) model further confirms the existence of Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) in South Asia. Moreover, urbanization has an inverted U-shaped relation with CO2 emissions, while urban agglomeration has a U-shaped nexus with CO2 emissions for overall sample. The bidirectional causal relationship has also been confirmed between urbanization and CO2 emissions, between urban agglomeration and CO2 emissions, between financial development and CO2 emissions both in the long-run and short-run. On the other hand, unidirectional causality runs from economic growth, trade openness, and energy consumption to CO2 emissions in the long-run. The rising trend of urban agglomeration in metropolitan cities in South Asia is adversely affecting the environment.
