Background: Studies on the postoperative problems of endoscopic sinus surgery are rare in literature. The objective is to study the postoperative symptoms of patients and findings on nasal endoscopy after functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). Adequate postoperative care necessary after FESS and ways to reduce the cavity problems to be studied. Methods: 113 patients who underwent FESS for various pathologies were followed up at regular intervals with nasal endoscopy. Postoperative symptoms of patients were documented, nasal endoscopy done and findings noted. Necessary interventions performed according to the problems visualized. Results were analysed at 1 month and 3 months post surgery and as required thereafter. Results: Postoperative review at 1 month showed symptoms of smell disturbances (24 cases), nasal obstruction (16 cases), headache(4) and nasal discharge(2). Nasal endoscopy revealed synechiae in 16 patients, significant crusting and fungal debris in 11 patients each. AFRS (17 out of 25 cases) and ethmoidal polyps (19 out of 52 cases) had maximum problem rate. Procedure wise, revision FESS and cases with septal correction showed maximum problems. Necessary intervention performed. Review at 3 months showed persistent smell disturbances in 6 ethmoidal polyp cases and persistent fungal debris in 5 of the AFRS cases. Rest of the cases improved. Outside this review, 1 case of antrochoanal polyp and 9 cases of ethmoidal polyps showed recurrence later on which was treated endoscopically. Conclusion: AFRS and ethmoidal polyps require rigorous postoperative care with nasal endoscopy and appropriate intervention as they are prone for recurrence and postoperative problems. Revision FESS need extensive preoperative assessment to reduce problem rate. Duration of follow up necessary for each case need more extensive long term studies.

The physicochemical characteristics of Zinc nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were investigated using various techniques after they were produced using the sol gel process. The crystalline structure, surface morphology, optical property, elemental and chemical composition of the samples have been studied by X-diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffuse reflectance (DRS), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies respectively. The synthesis of extremely pure, well crystalline and photo-active ZnO NPs with mixed surface morphology was obtained. Afterward, the photocatalytic activity of ZnO NPs were evaluated against Rhodamine 6G (RH-6G) in aqueous medium. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cubic shaped zinc stannate nanocatalyst (ZS-NC) with the average crystallite size of 32.58 nm was prepared by sol-gel method using ZnO and SnO2 as a precursors. The crystal structural composition was investigated through Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The microstructure analysis was done over scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the optical property was studied by operating diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The rhodamine 6G was degraded in aqueous under the influence of solar light in the presence of ZS-NC and photocatalytic parameters were derived by using a set of equations. Twenty pearl millet genotypes were grown in two experiments i.e. normal and water stress irrigation during two seasons (2019 and 2020) at Agronomy Dept., Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University. The variance due to interaction between genotypes x irrigation was significant for all studied traits, except chlorophyll content in 2019 season. Moreover, mean squares due to treatments of irrigation and genotypes were significant for all traits i.e. plant height, number of tillers/plant, leaves/ stems ratio, fresh and dry protein forage yields and chlorophyll content in both seasons, except total protein forage yield in 2019 season, suggesting that all traits were markedly affected by water stress and possessed a wide range of differences among the studied genotypes. Mainly, the water stress caused a decrease in plant height, number of tillers/ plant, leaves/stems ratio, total fresh, dry and protein forage yields and chlorophyll content by 28.1, 47.2, 21.9, 34.0, 20.3, 12.6 and 14.7%, respectively, as average of the two seasons. The used pearl millet genotypes were classified according to drought susceptible index (DSI) into two groups i.e. less than unity, tolerant to drought, and the other large then unity, susceptibility to drought. Some of those genotypes were differed from season to season for reduction and DSI and from trail to another. The superior genotype using DSI were genotypes Nos. 1 and 2 and there were tolerant to drought stress for forage yield. This research was carried out at Agronomy Department Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, Egypt, to study the effect of water stress, genotypes and their interaction on seed yield and its attributes of pear millet. A set of twenty genotypes were sown in two experiments i.e. normal and water stress irrigation during 2019 and 2020 seasons. A split block design with three replications was used in both experiments. The results showed that the treatments of irrigation and genotypes and their interaction had a highly significant effect on the number of panicle/plant, panicle length, thickness, panicle weight, grain yield/plant, and 1000 grain weight. Mainly, the water stress caused a decrease in the number of panicle/plant, panicle length, and thickness, panicle weight, grain yield/plant, and 1000-grain weight by 28.68, 39.92, 36.98, 24.40, 24.7, and 37.1%, respectively, as the average of the two seasons. The used pear millet genotypes were classified according to drought susceptible index (DSI) into two groups, the first was tolerant to drought' and the second was susceptible to drought. Genotypes seasonally differ in reduction and drought susceptible index (DSI ). The superior genotypes according to DSI were genotypes no. 4, 5 and, 20 which were tolerant to drought for seed yield/plant in the average of the two seasons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Maize (Zea mays L.) is the third most important cereal grain in Egypt (after wheat and rice) but it is vulnerable to water stress which causes lead losses in both yield and quality. In the current study we evaluated 100 S1-lines along with their top-crosses using two testers under normal and water stress conditions. We used line × tester to assess general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining ability effects for 100-grain weight and grain yield per plot; In addition, we estimated heritability for both traits. Result of line × tester analysis showed highly significant differences among parents, crosses vs parents., In addition, between testers and lines × testers for both traits under normal and water stress condition. The results, lines showed non-significant for 100-grain weight under normal and water stress condition. Grain yield per plot showed non-significant differences under normal condition while it showed significant under water stress condition. Under normal condition, S1-lines 56 and 88 possessed the highest 100-grain weight while, the highest values of 100-grain weight were found in cross combinations including S1-line 29 × SC162 and S1-line 61× TWC352. On the other hand, S1-lines 65 and 68 possessed the highest grain yield per plot while, the highest values of grain yield per plot were found in cross combinations including S1-line 86 × SC162 and S1-line 37× TWC352. Under normal condition, S1-lines 10 and 99 displayed positive and significant GCA effects for 100-grain weight while, S1-line 86 and 55 exhibited the maximum GCA effect for grain yield per plot. Top-crosses including S1-line 29×SC162 and S1-line 75×TWC352 were good specific combiners for 100-grain weight while, the top-crosses including S1-line 29×SC162 and S1-line 78×TWC352 were good specific combiners for grain yield per plot. Heritability in broad sense showed moderate highly estimates for both traits. Our results indicated the preponderance of dominance gene action in controlling both aforementioned traits. In conclusion, these S1-lines are promising to produce drought tolerant inbred line in the future, which may lead to produce drought tolerant hybrid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A dynamic loading impact test was performed on a wheel rim using the Finite Element method. It is a convenient, practical and more economic to use computational simulation compared to a real experiment which may involve high costs in order to provide enough specimens for repeated experiments. The study's aim is to investigate the correlation between the impact energy absorbed in 13 degree and 90 degree impact tests using three different materials, namely Aluminium 6061-T6, Magnesium AM60 and Stainless Steel 304L. For the wheel rim, the elasto-plastic condition was applied. The striker is set to move downwards with a velocity of -22222.2 mm/s and a mass of 144 kg. The mesh sizes implemented in this work are 10 mm, 7 mm and 5 mm. It is found that the peak load in the 90 degree impact test is greater than the 13 degree impact test. Due to dissimilar wheel orientation and contact area during the impact, the energy absorbed obtained in the 13 degree impact test is lower than the 90 degree impact test. Aluminium shows the best results compared to the other material with a percentage of correlation of 24.40%. Whereas, Stainless Steel recorded the highest value of deviation percentage compared to the other materials. The result shows that this can be the basis to study the parameters for wheel changes such as the use of new materials, and the thickness, size and pattern of spokes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
