Background: Bariatric surgery is a commonly performed group of procedures for individuals with severe obesity, and its impact on mental health, particularly depression, has gained significant attention. In Saudi Arabia, the prevalence and consequences of depression following bariatric surgery among adults is an area of growing concern. The study aimed to assess the prevalence of depression after bariatric surgery and estimate the consequences of depression after bariatric surgery., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among adults in Saudi Arabia who had undergone bariatric surgery. The participants were recruited from different bariatric surgery centers across the country. The data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire that had three main sections, including demographic information, clinical characteristics, and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) to assess depression., Results: The results of the study showed that among adults in Saudi Arabia who had undergone bariatric surgery, the prevalence of depression was high. Of the participants, 23.5% were found to have depression after bariatric surgery. This high prevalence suggests that depression is a significant consequence of bariatric surgery., Conclusion: A high number of adults in Saudi Arabia experience depression after bariatric surgery. This shows a need for mental health checks and support before and after the surgery. With mental healthcare as a regular part of bariatric programs, patients would have a better chance of success and overall well-being. Background Parents serve a fundamental role in monitoring developmental milestones and identifying potential delays during early childhood, enabling timely interventions. However, previous studies in Saudi Arabia have shown limited awareness among parents regarding age-specific norms and red flags across developmental domains. This knowledge gap can severely impact the detection and management of abnormalities. Hence, a comprehensive understanding of Saudi parental knowledge, attitudes, and practices concerning childhood developmental trajectories is imperative.  Methodology This cross-sectional study assessed developmental milestone awareness, beliefs, and behaviors among Saudi parents. A sample of 1,052 parents completed a validated 38-item questionnaire covering knowledge, attitudes, practices, and demographics. Knowledge was assessed across developmental domains using 22 multiple-choice questions, with scores categorized as excellent (≥75%), good (50%-75%), fair (40%-50%), or poor (≤39%). Attitudes and practices were captured on five-point Likert scales. Descriptive and chi-square analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 28.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY).  Results The majority of participants were females (844, 80.2%), with a mean age of 38.8 years. Serious knowledge inadequacies existed regarding developmental timelines across domains, especially motor milestones like crawling (93, 29.4% correct), sitting unsupported (45, 27.6%), pointing at objects (278, 26.4%), and responding to names (440, 41.8%). Overall, 2 (0.2%) participants showed excellent and 281 (26.7%) showed good understanding, while 490 (46.6%) had poor knowledge. Significant sociodemographic variations were observed, with women and experienced parents demonstrating greater awareness ( P  < 0.001). Despite knowledge gaps, 542 (51.5%) actively sought developmental information themselves, and over 50% trusted pediatric guidance. Most participants expressed a willingness to undergo screenings if risk factors existed and reported spending a considerable amount of daily interaction time with their children, focusing on developmental needs. Conclusions Critical developmental milestone knowledge shortfalls and selective attitudes persist among Saudi parents, warranting public education and physician-parent communication that enhance interventions to enable impactful developmental monitoring and prompt responses to abnormalities in a timely manner., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist., (Copyright © 2024, Alzahrani et al.)

Background: Due to the 2019 Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) precaution, educational systems and learners' practices from all specialties have been negatively affected, especially university students. COVID-19 has a massive effect on the practice of allied health students. The students' hospital exposure has been severely affected by the cancelation of the clinical practice. This study aims to investigate the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the clinical practice of respiratory therapy students in different universities around Jeddah, Saudi Arabia., Methods: Analytical cross-sectional online questionnaire was distributed from August 2021 to November 2021 to respiratory therapy students. The study's sampling technique was non-probability consecutive, and the calculated sample size was 183 participants. The survey contained questions to identify the clinical exposure of the participants. The participants included RT students in their clinical training years from King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, and Batterjee Medical College in Jeddah. The survey evaluated the effects of the pandemic on students' clinical practice, confidence and clinical preparation, and education., Results: A total of 187 respiratory therapy students completed the questionnaire. The results revealed that 145 (77.5%) of respiratory therapy students agreed that the pandemic had disrupted their clinical practice. The percentage of respiratory therapy students who felt that they were less confident and less prepared for the next academic year due to practical session cancellation was 141 (75.4%). Out of the total students, 135 (72.2%) students reported difficulty in connecting the clinical and theoretical part because of the pandemic., Conclusion: The majority of respiratory therapy students from the three universities similarly reported that the pandemic disrupted their practice and interfered with their ability to connect between clinical and theoretical part. Objective: Development and evaluation of bucco-adhesive films of Gliclazide for pediatric use., Methods: Sixteen films were formulated using a different combination of Gelatin, Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), polyvinyl alcohol, Hydroxy propyl cellulose (HPC), chitosan, polyethylene glycol, sodium alginate, and carbopol. Compatibility study for drug and polymers was conducted using differential scanning calorimetry method and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. All films were examined for drug content, weight variation, thickness, swelling index, muco-adhesion and folding endurance. In vitro drug release has been completed for two hours. Stability studies were conducted at 4°C, 25°C, and 40°C for selected films. The optimized formulation based on in vitro data was selected for a bioavailability study in rabbits., Results: The selected film formula (carbopol 2%, HPMC 2%) did not demonstrate interactions between the drug and polymers, while it showed accepted content, muco-adhesion, and mechanical properties. The in vitro release study showed rapid and complete release of drug from films. Stability studies confirmed accepted stability of the selected film at 4°C and 25°C, but the film get hard with few particles at 40°C. The bioavailability studies conducted showed that there was 2.1 fold increase in the AUC 0-24 of selected film compared with oral tablets., Conclusion: Bucco adhesive films of Gliclazide is a promising dosage form for the treatment of diabetes in children., Competing Interests: The authors report no conflicts of interest in this work., (© 2022 Gaber et al.)
