10. Phototherapy Using Er,Cr:YSGG Laser as a Definitive Treatment for Dentin Hypersensitivity: A Systematic Review

The literature was searched using combinations of the following medical subject heading (MeSH) terms and keywords: (laser OR phototherapy OR Er,Cr:YSGG laser) AND (dentine hypersensitivity OR dentine sensitivity OR dental sensitivity).Results: A total of 486 studies were found, of which 7 randomized controlled trials were included in the review. The Er,Cr:YSGG laser wavelengths, power density and duration of irradiation used in the studies were 2780 nanometers, 0.25– 0.5 watts and 20– 60 seconds, respectively. The follow-up assessments were conducted ranging from immediately to 3 months after treatment. All studies showed that the Er,Cr:YSGG laser was effective in alleviating DH.Conclusion: This systematic review suggests that the application of an Er,Cr:YSSG laser is effective in alleviating DH and may have limited adverse effects if adequate parameters are followed.Keywords: phototherapy, dentine hypersensitivity, dentine sensitivity, Er,Cr:YSGG laserCorrigendum for this paper has been publishedCorrigendum for this paper has been published

12. COLOR STABILITY OF TOOTH-COLORED RESIN RESTORATIONS. A NARRATIVE REVIEW.

Abstract

Tooth-colored dental restorations had to have an adequate color stability for having overall success. Color stability is known as one of the prerequisites for longterm aesthetics. Therefore, the current review is discussing tooth-colored resin restoration color stability and the factors affecting it. Dental restorations are prone to staining, due to a variety of extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Resin matrix type, filler particle dimensions, polymerization depth, and type of coloring agents are all affecting the extent of color stability of resin restorations. In addition, discoloration of light-activated resin-based materials is affected by the type of photoinitiator system, organic compound matrix, and light-curing unit used for polymerization, as well as the irradiation times. Other factors important to stability include the degree of surface roughness and the duration of exposure to staining solutions, along with their PH level and temperature. Despite many improvements in the chemical composition of contemporary tooth-colored restorations, color stability remains a challenge, and material selection must be carefully considered. Abstract

The advancement of restorative materials and techniques continues to enhance the clinical success of numerous restorative procedures. Despite these new innovations, microleakage persists as one of the main causes of restoration failure. Microleakage tests provide useful information on the performance of restorative materials, and different techniques for assessing microleakage have been developed and used. These tests include the use of dyes, radioactive isotopes, air pressure, bacteria, neutron activation analysis, and artificial caries. However, little has been done to determine the cause, mechanism, and nature of microleakage. Therefore, this review outlines and discusses the currently available microleakage assessment tools.
