2. Teachers' Content, Pedagogical, and Technological Knowledge, and the Use of Technology in Teaching Pronunciation

Abstract

This study examined the correlations between three vital areas of teaching pronunciation in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes (i.e., content, pedagogical, and technological knowledge). This study also explored the relationships between teachers' majors, experience, and technology competence with using technology in teaching English pronunciation. Data was collected by using a questionnaire. The study tool was a model adapted from different studies. The participants of the study were sixty English language instructors at different Saudi universities. The result indicated that there was a statistically significant difference in the three constructs of the model based on the participants' technology competence. The results revealed that content knowledge had a small correlation with pedagogical knowledge, and with technological knowledge. Pedagogical knowledge had a strong positive correlation with technological knowledge.

Abstract

The widespread use of insecticides poses a significant threat to the health and sustainability of honeybees (Apis mellifera). This study aimed to isolate, identify, and investigate the potential of honeybee gut bacterial strains in mitigating the detrimental effects of insecticides on honeybees and extending their lifespan. The efficacy of seven honeybee gut bacterial strains in reducing insecticide toxicity was evaluated. Through the identification of honeybee gut bacterial isolates using 16s rRNA, seven strains were identified, namely Priestia endophytica, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, Peribacillus frigoritolerans, B. subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, and Bacillus tequilensis. The experimental results revealed that bees treated with these gut bacteria significantly reduced oxidative stress markers and detoxification enzyme levels compared to untreated bees. Moreover, the treated bees demonstrated enhanced immune responses. The bees treated with deltamethrin + intestinal bacteria showed an increase in bees' lifespan to 6.33 days compared to a lifespan of 4 days with deltamethrin only. Similarly, bees treated with acetamiprid intestinal bacteria had further extended to 10.33 days compared to a lifespan of 7.67 days with acetamiprid. These findings suggest that using honeybee gut bacterial strains may serve as a sustainable strategy to mitigate the harmful impacts of insecticides on honeybees, thereby promoting their overall health and contributing to the preservation of pollination services and apiculture. Abstract

This study was focused to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNps) from the aqueous extract of Bistorta amplexicaule and to evaluate their antimicrobial, antifungal, and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) degradation potential. The AgNps from B. amplexicaule were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies. The biological activity of the AgNps was checked against the three bacterial and two fungal strains. The inhibition activities of the synthesized nanoparticles on pathogenic bacteria and fungi were equally studied using the colony-forming unit method. The AgNps synthesized showed excellent bactericidal and fungicidal activities against pathogenic Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Candida albicans, and Candida tropicalis. The removal of nitrophenols is one of the most demanding tasks, due to their injurious impact on the health of the living organisms. The AgNps showed superior performance compared with the pure plant extract. The AgNps also displayed efficient catalytic ability in reducing toxic 4-NP into harmless 4-aminophenol in the presence of NaBH4 solution. Hence, the synthesized AgNps can be effectively used against bacterial and fungal infections and in the decontamination of 4-NP polluted water.

This will increase the quality of recorded surgical materials published online and ultimately enhance the reliability of streaming platforms as educational resources.Methodology: Tool development included several stages: draft generation, expert panel setting, internal reliability testing, and pilot study.Results: After two rounds of expert panels evaluating the developed tool, 23 relevant items evaluating the educational value, scientific accuracy, and clarity of the surgical technical steps of the videos were obtained. We applied the tool to the top 25 YouTube videos discussing elliptical excision. Internal consistency, reliability, and substantial agreement between the raters were identified. We identified a strong positive correlation between our tool score and the global rating score (r= 0.55, P= 0.004).Conclusion: It is critical to avoid relying on any video for educational purposes. The tool generated and validated in our study can determine a video’s value.

To date, perceptions of primary care physicians (PCPs) regarding dermatologic surgery are poorly understood. This study aimed to assess the perception and attitude of PCPs toward dermatologic surgery and explore the factors that might affect their perception and attitude toward it.Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study used an online survey. The survey was distributed among PCPs working in various regions of Saudi Arabia and contained questions about demographics, medical training information, participants’ awareness of dermatologic surgery, and a list of 10 cutaneous procedures to select the most qualified physician performing these procedures. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. P≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: In total, 440 PCPs participated in this study. Overall, 70% of the PCPs had heard about dermatologic surgery, whereas 30% had never heard about it. PCPs reported that dermatologic surgeons were the most qualified physicians to perform laser procedures (60.5%), hair transplantation (60.5%), excision of small benign and malignant skin tumors (46.1%), excision of small melanocytic nevi (55.7%), filler injection (44.8%), and injection of botulinum toxin (48.9%); 64.5% considered plastic surgeons to be the most qualified for liposuction. 38. Evolving standards of information disclosure : reform of Saudi Arabian medical law in the light of the developments of English law

Abstract

The major concern of this thesis is about the current professional standard of care under Saudi Arabian medical law, regarding doctors’ duty to disclose information and risks to competent adult patients about a proposed medical treatment. Additionally, the thesis has highlighted other legal deficiencies that occur as a result of applying the professional standard in Saudi Arabia and considered how reforms can be introduced, based on English law experience in a way that is in harmony with Islamic Sharia. The thesis has undertaken a novel approach by critically studying and comparing the current practice in Saudi Arabian medical law to the comparative English law approach. The reason for this is to provide a comprehensive legal literature review based on the extremely well- developed English law experiences in the same matters. Realising the significance of the principle of the respect for autonomy, the thesis has placed a noticeable emphasis on this principle by arguing that considering and respecting autonomy would lead the law to protect the patient’s autonomy and self-determination in a medical context. The thesis has argued that both Western and Islamic Sharia medical ethics have considered the notion of the respect for patients’ autonomy, but that consideration has been approached differently, as the thesis has shown. Further, the thesis has critically discussed how the English law standard of care has been developed in the last three decades, in order to move from the professional standard of care to a new standard that protects patients’ autonomy and self-determination. These developments and years of experience have provided sufficient arguments and supports for the thesis’s motion to recommend and suggest that Saudi Arabian medical law departs from the professional standard and adopts the prudent patient standard to protect patients’ autonomy in compliance with Islamic Sharia. In addition to proposing a legal formula for the prudent patient standard that can be adopted by Saudi Arabian medical law, this thesis has also proposed other formulas as solutions for other legal deficiencies, based on English law experience and in accordance with Islamic Sharia.

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the impact of patient education, advanced imaging techniques, and oral hygiene on the prognosis of combined endodontic-periodontal (endo-perio) lesions. Combined endo-perio lesions present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to the interconnection between pulp and periodontal tissues. Patient education improves treatment compliance and oral hygiene adherence, fostering better outcomes. Advanced imaging techniques, particularly cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), enhance diagnostic accuracy and guide treatment planning. Consistent oral hygiene practices, supported by professional guidance and adjunctive therapies, prevent reinfection and support tissue healing.
