Abstract: The analogue of CR-submanifolds in (almost) Kahlerian manifolds is the concept of contact CR-submanifolds in Sasakian manifolds. These are submanifolds for which the structure vector field ξ is tangent to the submanifold and for which the tangent bundle of M can be decomposed as T(M)=H(M)⊕E(M)⊕Rξ, where H(M) is invariant with respect to the endomorphism φ and E(M) is antiinvariant with respect to φ. The lowest possible dimension for M in which this decomposition is non trivial is the dimension 4. In this paper we obtain a complete classification of four-dimensional contact CR-submanifolds in S5(1) and S7(1) for which the second fundamental form restricted to H(M) and E(M) vanishes identically.

Abstract: The objective of this work is to prove, in a first step, the existence and the uniqueness of a solution of the following multivalued deterministic differential equation: $dx(t)+\partial ^-\varphi (x(t))(dt)\ni dm(t),\ t>0$, $x(0)=x_0$, where $m:\mathbb{R}_+\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^d$ is a continuous function and $\partial^-\varphi$ is the Fr\'{e}chet subdifferential of a semiconvex function $\varphi$; the domain of $\varphi$ can be non-convex, but some regularities of the boundary are required. Abstract: International audience; In this paper, we discuss in the framework of a mechanoelastic model the electronic and mechanical behavior of a single layer of spin crossover molecules self-organized on a substrate. We consider the molecules situated in a face-centered-cubic structure interacting in between and with sites in the substrate by the way of connecting springs with given elastic constants. The main experimental results are reproduced, i.e., typical thermal transitions with their incompleteness of the hysteresis loop, residual fractions after low-temperature relaxations, cooperativity, or kinetic features. However, we prove that the simple model, implying fixed neighbors on the substrate for every spin crossover molecule, leads in some cases to unphysical situations, corresponding to unexpected large curvatures of the spin crossover layer. Therefore, to go further, we allow every spin crossover molecule to change its adsorption site on the substrate at every moment, by connecting to the closest molecules on the substrate. This approach, corroborated with the use of different densities of the sites on the substrate, allows us to simulate further experimental observations, such as the appearance of cracks inside the layer or periodic arrangements of apparent heights of spin crossover molecules on the layer leading to moiré patterns, for which experimental data are also provided.

We acknowledge the Queensland government for collecting permits (WITK18248017-WITK18278817).; International audience; The family Pteromalidae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) is reviewed with the goal of providing nomenclatural changes and morphological diagnoses in preparation for a new molecular phylogeny and a book on world fauna that will contain keys to identification. Most subfamilies and some tribes of Pteromalidae are elevated to family level or transferred elsewhere in the superfamily. The resulting classification is a compromise, with the aim of preserving the validity and diagnosability of other, well-established families of Chalcidoidea. The following former subfamilies and tribes of Pteromalidae are elevated to family rank: Boucekiidae, Ceidae, Cerocephalidae, Chalcedectidae, Cleonymidae, Coelocybidae, Diparidae, Epichrysomallidae, Eunotidae, Herbertiidae, Hetreulophidae, Heydeniidae, Idioporidae, Lyciscidae, Macromesidae, Melanosomellidae, Moranilidae, Neodiparidae, Ooderidae, Pelecinellidae (senior synonym of Leptofoeninae), Pirenidae, Spalangiidae, and Systasidae. The following subfamilies are transferred from Pteromalidae: Chromeurytominae and Keiraninae to Megastigmidae, Elatoidinae to Neodiparidae, Nefoeninae to Pelecinellidae, and Erotolepsiinae to Spalangiidae. The subfamily Sycophaginae is transferred to Pteromalidae. The formerly incertae sedis tribe Lieparini is abolished and its single genus Liepara is transferred to Coelocybidae. The former tribe Tomocerodini is transferred to Moranilidae and elevated to subfamily status. The former synonym Tridyminae (Pirenidae) is treated as valid. The following former Pteromalidae are removed from the family and, due to phylogenetic uncertainty, placed as incertae sedis subfamilies or genera within Chalcidoidea: Austrosystasinae, Ditropinotellinae, Keryinae, Louriciinae, Micradelinae, Parasaphodinae, Rivasia, and Storeyinae. Within the remaining Pteromalidae, Miscogastrinae and Ormocerinae are confirmed as separate from Pteromalinae, the former tribe Trigonoderini is elevated to subfamily status, the former synonym Pachyneurinae is recognized as a distinct subfamily, and as the senior synonym of Austroterobiinae. The tribe Termolampini is synonymized under Pteromalini, and the tribe Uzkini is synonymized under Colotrechnini. Most former Otitesellinae, Sycoecinae, and Sycoryctinae are retained in the tribe Otitesellini, which is transferred to Pteromalinae, and all other genera of Pteromalinae are treated as Pteromalini. Eriaporidae is synonymized with Pirenidae, with Eriaporinae and Euryischiinae retained as subfamilies. Other nomenclatural acts performed here outside of Pteromalidae are as follows: Calesidae: elevation to family rank. Eulophidae: transfer of Boucekelimini and Platytetracampini to Opheliminae, and abolishment of the tribes Elasmini and Gyrolasomyiini. Baeomorphidae is recognized as the senior synonym of Rotoitidae. Khutelchalcididae is formally excluded from Chalcidoidea and placed as incertae sedis within Apocrita. Metapelmatidae and Neanastatidae are removed from Eupelmidae and treated as distinct families. Eopelma is removed from Eupelmidae and treated as an incertae sedis genus in Chalcidoidea. The following subfamilies and tribes are described as new: Cecidellinae (in Pirenidae), Enoggerinae (incertae sedis in Chalcidoidea), Erixestinae (in Pteromalidae), Eusandalinae (in Eupelmidae), Neapterolelapinae (incertae sedis in Chalcidoidea), Solenurinae (in Lyciscidae), Trisecodinae (in Systasidae), Diconocarini (in Pteromalidae: Miscogastrinae), and Trigonoderopsini (in Pteromalidae: Colotrechninae). A complete generic classification for discussed taxa is provided.

Abstract: International audience; Bistable spin-crossover molecules are particularly interesting for the development of innovative electronic and spintronic devices as they present two spin states that can be controlled by external stimuli. In this paper, we report the voltage-induced switching of the high spin/low spin electronic states of spin-crossover molecules self-assembled in dense 2D networks on Au(111) and Cu(111) by scanning tunneling microscopy at low temperature. On Au(111), voltage pulses lead to the nonlocal switching of the molecules from any─high or low─spin state to the other followed by a spontaneous relaxation toward their initial state within minutes. On the other hand, on Cu(111), single molecules can be addressed at will. They retain their new electronic configuration after a voltage pulse. The memory effect demonstrated on Cu(111) is due to an interplay between long-range intermolecular interaction and molecule/substrate coupling as confirmed by mechanoelastic simulations.

Abstract: In this paper we prove an approximation result for the viscosity solution of a system of semi-linear partial differential equations with continuous coefficients and nonlinear Neumann boundary condition. The approximation we use is based on a penalization method and our approach is probabilistic. We prove the weak uniqueness of the solution for the reflected stochastic differential equation and we approximate it (in law) by a sequence of solutions of stochastic differential equations with penalized terms. Using then a suitable generalized backward stochastic differential equation and the uniqueness of the reflected stochastic differential equation, we prove the existence of a continuous function, given by a probabilistic representation, which is a viscosity solution of the considered partial differential equation. Abstract: International audience; Time-resolved studies with temporal resolution that separate molecular level dynamics from macroscopic changes, allow clear distinction between the time scales of the different degrees of freedom involved. Cooperative molecular switching in the solid state is exemplified by spin crossover phenomenon in crystals of transition metal complexes. Here we show the existence of a delay between the crystalline volume increase, and the cooperative macroscopic switching of molecular state. Using 100 ps X-ray diffraction, we track the molecular spin state and the structure of the lattice during the photoinduced low spin to high spin transition in microcrystals of [Fe III (3-MeO-SalEen) 2 ]PF 6 . Model simulations explain the phenomenon with thermally activated kinetics governed by local energy barriers separating the molecular states. Such behaviour is different from that encountered in materials with no local energy barriers, where phase transformation can occur simultaneously with propagation of strain. Broadly, this motivates an optimised material design, scalable with size and intrinsic energetics.Ultrafast methods have the ability to transiently decouple transitions between subsystems that evolve simultaneously at thermal equilibrium. Here, time-resolved X-ray diffraction reveals a time delay between volumetric and spin-state switching in a spin-crossover compound.

Abstract: In this paper, we first define the notion of viscosity solution for the following system of partial differential equations involving a subdifferential operator:\[\{[c]{l}\dfrac{\partial u}{\partial t}(t,x)+\mathcal{L}_tu(t,x)+f(t,x,u(t,x))\in\partial\phi (u(t,x)),\quad t\in[0,T),x\in\mathbb{R}^d, u(T,x)=h(x),\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^d,\] where $\partial\phi$ is the subdifferential operator of the proper convex lower semicontinuous function $\phi:\mathbb{R}^k\to (-\infty,+\infty]$ and $\mathcal{L}_t$ is a second differential operator given by $\mathcal{L}_tv_i(x)={1/2}\operatorname {Tr}[\sigma(t,x)\sigma^*(t,x)\mathrm{D}^2v_i(x)]+< b(t,x),\nabla v_i(x)>$, $i\in\bar{1,k}$. Abstract: Fastq raw reads are available as NCBI Sequence Read Archives (BioSamples IDs are listed in TableS1). The concatenated data set and newick treefiles are available from Zenodo. We dedicate this work to the memory of our dear friend and colleague John LaSalle, specialist of Eulophidae, who influenced all authors and published the first molecular phylogenetic hypothesis of the family with one of us (NG). John sent JYR many of the eulophid genera from Australia for sequencing and was an enthusiastic member of our project on the UCE phylogenomics of Chalcidoidea.; International audience; Eulophidae is a hyper-diverse family of chalcidoid wasps with 324 genera, about 5300 described species and probably thousands of others to be described. Until now, the absence of unequivocal morphological apomorphies and the low resolution provided by the handful of Sanger sequenced genes have hampered the reconstruction of phylogenetic relationships within the family. Here, we used ultra-conserved elements and their flanking regions to resolve relationships among 84 species of eulophids included in 63 genera representing all subfamilies and most tribes, plus 15 outgroups. Our analyses recover all traditional Eulophidae subfamilies and tribes with high support and globally agree with the traditional classification of the family. Our results confirm that Eulophinae + Tetrastichinae is the sister group of (Opheliminae + Entiinae) + Entedoninae. At the generic level, our analyses provide high support for intergeneric relationships for which morphology and Sanger markers previously failed to provide resolution. Our results also confirm thatTrisecodesdoes not group with Eulophidae and may not belong to this family; however, its correct classification still awaits a large-scale phylogenomic hypothesis for Chalcidoidea. This work opens new avenues towards a better understanding of the evolutionary history, biogeography and evolution of host-parasitoid associations in this hyper-diverse family of chalcidoid wasps.

Abstract: International audience; The study is focused on creating magnetic mesoporous materials through the insertion of a nickel ferrite into the structure of kaolin-type clay. Sol-gel auto-combustion method was employed to synthesize the materials, using glycine and tartaric acid as chelating/combustion agents. This is the first study on the combined effect of different fuel agents and of clay-to-ferrite molar ratio on the structural, textural, magnetic and adsorptive properties of nanocomposites. The value of the average pore size, registered in a range of 6.01 and 12.9 nm, indicates the dependence on both molar ratio and fuel agent. The textural properties of the materials, corroborated with those obtained from XRD, SEM and TEM and VSM, suggest that magnetic nanocomposites can be successfully used as adsorbents in the removal of harmful organics. The obtained nanocomposites show excellent adsorption, with up to 98% BB41 dye removal, and a facile recuperation, due to their magnetic properties. The maximum adsorption capacity of dye, of 752.2 mg/g, was obtained for C3Ni_act350, in the presence of H2O2 in solution. More than that, the adsorption capacity of magnetic composites increased with increasing the NiFe2O4 content.

Abstract: Candidiasis, caused by the opportunistic yeast Candida albicans, is the most common fungal infection today. Resistance of C. albicans to current antifungal drugs has emerged over the past decade leading to the need for novel antifungal agents. Our aim was to select new antifungal compounds by library-screening methods and to assess their antifungal effects against C. albicans. After screening 90 potential antifungal compounds from JUNIA, a chemical library, two compounds, 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-((4-chlorophenyl)amino)-3,6-dimethylpyridin-2(1H)-one (PYR) and (Z)-N-(2-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)vinyl)-4-methoxyaniline (TRI), were identified as having potential antifungal activity. Treatment with PYR and TRI resulted in a significant reduction of C. albicans bioluminescence as well as the number of fungal colonies, indicating rapid fungicidal activity. These two compounds were also effective against clinically isolated fluconazole- or caspofungin-resistant C. albicans strains. PYR and TRI had an inhibitory effect on Candida biofilm formation and reduced the thickness of the mannan cell wall. In a Caenorhabditis elegans infection model, PYR and TRI decreased the mortality of nematodes infected with C. albicans and enhanced the expression of antimicrobial genes that promote C. albicans elimination. Overall, PYR and TRI showed antifungal properties against C. albicans by exerting fungicidal activities and enhancing the antimicrobial gene expression of Caenorhabditis elegans.

Abstract: Only a subpopulation of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients responds to immunotherapies, highlighting the urgent need to develop therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcome. We develop a chemical positive modulator (HEI3090) of the purinergic P2RX7 receptor that potentiates αPD-1 treatment to effectively control the growth of lung tumors in transplantable and oncogene-induced mouse models and triggers long lasting antitumor immune responses. Mechanistically, the molecule stimulates dendritic P2RX7-expressing cells to generate IL-18 which leads to the production of IFN-γ by Natural Killer and CD4+ T cells within tumors. Combined with immune checkpoint inhibitor, the molecule induces a complete tumor regression in 80% of LLC tumor-bearing mice. Cured mice are also protected against tumor re-challenge due to a CD8-dependent protective response. Hence, combination treatment of small-molecule P2RX7 activator followed by immune checkpoint inhibitor represents a strategy that may be active against NSCLC., A limited percentage of patients with non-small cell lung cancer respond to immunotherapy. Here the authors show that HEI3090, a chemical positive modulator of the purinergic P2RX7 receptor, promotes IL-18 mediated anti-tumor immune responses and sensitizes lung cancer to anti-PD-1 therapy in preclinical models.

Abstract: Mesoporous TiO2 photocatalysts intended for the advanced removal of clofibric acid (CA) from water were synthesized by the sol-gel method in a medium containing cetyl-trimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB) and urea, using either ethanol or isopropanol to dilute the TiO2 precursor. The activation of the samples was undertaken at 550, 650 and 750 °C. The XRD revealed that the nature of the solvent resulted in significant differences in the anatase-to-rutile ratios obtained at different temperatures. The specific surface area values were situated between 9 and 43 m2·g−1 and the band gap values were similar for all the samples. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared samples was examined for the degradation of CA, an emergent water contaminant. The photocatalytic tests performed under UV-A irradiation revealed that the photo-reactivity of these materials depends on the calcination temperature. The best results were obtained for the samples calcined at 750 °C, which showed high yields of CA elimination, as well as almost complete mineralization (over 95%) after 180 min of reaction. Good results in terms of catalyst reusability in the reaction were found for the catalyst showing the highest photo-reactivity. Therefore, the samples can be considered good candidates for future water remediation applications.

Abstract: International audience; Spin Crossover (SCO) is a promising switching phenomenon when implemented in electronic devices as molecules, thin films or nanoparticles. Among the properties modulated along this phenomenon, optically induced mechanical changes are of tremendous importance as they can work as fast light-induced mechanical switches or allow to investigate and control microstructural strains and fatigability. The development of characterization techniques probing 2 nanoscopic behaviour with high spatio-temporal resolution allows to trigger and visualize such mechanical changes of individual nanoscopic objects. Here we use Ultrafast Transmission Electron Microscopy (UTEM) to precisely probe the length changes of individual switchable nanoparticles induced thermally by nanosecond laser pulses. This allows us to reveal the mechanisms of spin switching, leading to the macroscopic expansion of SCO materials. This study was conducted on individual pure SCO nanoparticles and SCO nanoparticles encapsulating gold nanorods that serve for plasmonic heating under laser pulses. Length changes are compared with time-resolved optical measurements performed on an assembly of these particles.

Abstract: Significance Cooperation is key to well-functioning groups and societies. Rather than addressing high-cost cooperation involving giving money or time and effort, we examine social mindfulness—a form of interpersonal benevolence that requires basic perspective-taking and is aimed at leaving choice for others. Do societies differ in social mindfulness, and if so, does it matter? Here, we find not only considerable variation across 31 nations and regions but also an association between social mindfulness and countries’ performance on environmental protection. We conclude that something as small and concrete as interpersonal benevolence can be entwined with current and future issues of global importance., Humans are social animals, but not everyone will be mindful of others to the same extent. Individual differences have been found, but would social mindfulness also be shaped by one’s location in the world? Expecting cross-national differences to exist, we examined if and how social mindfulness differs across countries. At little to no material cost, social mindfulness typically entails small acts of attention or kindness. Even though fairly common, such low-cost cooperation has received little empirical attention. Measuring social mindfulness across 31 samples from industrialized countries and regions (n = 8,354), we found considerable variation. Among selected country-level variables, greater social mindfulness was most strongly associated with countries’ better general performance on environmental protection. Together, our findings contribute to the literature on prosociality by targeting the kind of everyday cooperation that is more focused on communicating benevolence than on providing material benefits.

In view of some evidence from physics of metamaterials, we focus our effort on two recent nonstandard relaxed micromorphic models including novel micro-inertia terms. These novel micro-inertia terms are needed to better capture the band-gap response. The existence proof is based on the Banach fixed-point theorem.

Abstract: Epidemic progression depends on the structure of the population. We study a two-group epidemic model with the difference between the groups determined by the rate of disease transmission. The basic reproduction number, the maximal and the total number of infected individuals are characterized by the proportion between the groups. We consider different vaccination strategies and determine the outcome of the vaccination campaign depending on the distribution of vaccinated individuals between the groups.

Abstract: International audience; This paper is motivated by the asymptotic stabilization of abstract SPDEs of linear type. As a first step, it proposes an abstract contribution to the exact controllability (in a general L p-sense, p > 1) of a class of linear SDEs with general time-invariant rank control coefficient in the diffusion term. From this point of view, our paper generalizes some of the results in [13] where full and null rank were considered. Necessary conditions and sufficient ones are discussed and their hierarchy and connections with the approximate controllability are illustrated. Second, our paper illustrates, on relevant frameworks of linear SPDEs, a way to drive exactly to 0 their unstable part of dimension n ≥ 1 by using M internal, respectively N boundary controls such that max {M, N } < n. Extensive examples are presented as is the minimal gain for judicious control pairs.

20. The Revitalization of Social and Civic Participation in Eastern Europe? Industrial Conflict and Popular Protests in Romania

Abstract: International audience; In the context of recent global economic and political changes, trade unions were forced to find new discursive and organisational strategies, as well as new means of imposing their agendas. However, the form and configurations of protests in Romania have shifted significantly from the workers’ strikes of the 1990s to middle-class protests, often described as being founded on the interests of young people and mainly focusing on the quality of democracy. In this paper we explain the weakness of interaction and the absence of spillover effects between popular protests and trade union mobilization. We demonstrate that, despite the high level of social mobilization Romania witnessed in the period January 2017–July 2018, and arguably since 2012, trade unions and popular protests did not manage to build on each other’s mobilization efforts. Although the mass protests might have positively influenced opportunity structures, trade unions were not able to benefit from them. Therefore, rather than looking at opportunity structures, in this paper we propose to understand the incapacity to join forces through an analysis of the mobilization claims of both parties and of their internal characteristics, such as their participants (by emphasizing the active involvement of young people), and organizational features. We argue that the lack of interaction between protests and unions is to be explained by incompatible mobilization frames: whilst unions also opposed the reform of the justice system, their main focus was the pension system and tax reform – moreover, they addressed issues specifically associated with work; popular protests, on the other hand, mobilized young people almost exclusively around the reform of the justice system.

Therefore, rather than looking at opportunity structures, in this paper we propose to understand the incapacity to join forces through an analysis of the mobilization claims of both parties and of their internal characteristics, such as their participants (by emphasizing the active involvement of young people), and organizational features. We argue that the lack of interaction between protests and unions is to be explained by incompatible mobilization frames: whilst unions also opposed the reform of the justice system, their main focus was the pension system and tax reform – moreover, they addressed issues specifically associated with work; popular protests, on the other hand, mobilized young people almost exclusively around the reform of the justice system.

Abstract: We show the existence of global minimizers for a geometrically nonlinear isotropic elastic Cosserat 6-parameter shell model. The proof of the main theorem is based on the direct methods of the calculus of variations using essentially the convexity of the energy in the nonlinear strain and curvature measures. We first show the existence of the solution for the theory including $O(h^{5})$ terms. The form of the energy allows us to show the coercivity for terms up to order $O(h^{5})$ and the convexity of the energy. Secondly, we consider only that part of the energy including $O(h^{3})$ terms. In this case the obtained minimization problem is not the same as those previously considered in the literature, since the influence of the curved initial shell configuration appears explicitly in the expression of the coefficients of the energies for the reduced two-dimensional variational problem and additional mixed bending-curvature and curvature terms are present. While in the theory including $O(h^{5})$ the conditions on the thickness $h$ are those considered in the modelling process and they are independent of the constitutive parameter, in the $O(h^{3})$ -case the coercivity is proven under some more restrictive conditions on the thickness $h$ .

Abstract: International audience; A particular reactivity of 1-cyanomethylpyridinium salts was revealed in the [3 + 2] cycloaddition conditions with alkyl propiolates. Cycloadducts 3 were obtained in reactions carried out at room temperature while refluxing in CH3CN provided unexpected ethyl or methyl 3-(3-cyanoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-2-yl)indolizine-1-carboxylates 4. The structure of the new 2:1 azaindolizine-indolizine adducts was secured by X-ray analysis. Methodological efforts have enabled the adjustment of the reactivity towards the formation of 3-cyanoindolizines 3 or cyanoazaindolizine-indolizines 4. A mechanism for the formation of azaindolizine-indolizines was proposed. A portfolio of rare cyanoindolizines and cyanoazaindolizine-indolizines has been successfully obtained.

Abstract: International audience; This paper provides a rapid assessment method of potentially infectious waste flow related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in Romania focusing on the emergency state (from 16 March to 14 May 2020) where a national lockdown was in force with restrictive and social distancing measures concerning population mobility and economic activities. Medical and municipal waste management systems are critical services in combating the virus spread in the community. This assessment is useful due to poor available data of medical waste flow in environmental reports and it covers COVID-19 patients, quarantined, and self-isolated persons as the main potential infectious waste sources. The proposed model estimates that COVID-19 related waste flow is 4312 t at the national level from 25 February to 15 June of which 2633 t in the emergency state period. This assessment is correlated with deficiencies of medical and municipal waste management systems in Romania before the COVID-19 pandemic as stress factors of public health and environment. This study points out the main challenges of waste operators and reveals some best practices during this pandemic crisis. Based on the results and discussion section, several recommendations are proposed to COVID-19 waste-related issues and points out the crucial role of the reliable medical and municipal waste database in managing such biologic hazards at national and EU levels. Monitoring of COVID-19 waste flow through such models are important for decision-makers, particularly in low and middle-income countries which are facing waste management deficiencies and gaps in waste statistics, to reduce other contamination risks or related environmental threats.

Abstract: Particle-based photodynamic therapy (PPDT) holds great promise in theranostic applications. Herein, we demonstrate that PPDT based on gold nanorods coated with an indocyanine green (ICG)-loaded silica shell allows for the inactivation of the Crohn's disease-associated adherent-invasive Escherichia coli strain LF82 (E. coli LF82) under pulsed laser light irradiation at 810 nm. Fine-tuning of the plasmonic structures together with maximizing the photosensitizer loading onto the nanostructures allowed optimizing the singlet oxygen generation capability and the PPDT efficiency. Using a nanoparticle concentration low enough to suppress photothermal heating effects, 6 log10 reduction in E. coli LF82 viability could be achieved using gold nanostructures displaying a plasmonic band at 900 nm. An additional modality of nanoparticle-based photoinactivation of E. coli is partly observed, with 3 log10 reduction of bacterial viability using Au NRs@SiO2 without ICG, due to the two-photon induced formation of reactive oxygen species. Interaction of the particles with the bacterial surface, responsible for the disruption of the bacterial integrity, together with the generation of moderate quantities of singlet oxygen could account for this behavior.

The elements of explanation then involve two distinct notions: that light propagates in a straight line; and the necessity for the light to reach the eye in order to be seen.Counter-intuitively enough, in both countries, the percentage of correct answers decreases in a similar way as primary school school children grow up, to become a small minority among students at university (11% in Romania and 16 to 27% in France). Percentage of correct drawings among adults varies between 11% (Romanian future primary school teachers) and 27%. Comparaison with their written explanations reveals an excellent concordance.

Abstract: International audience; A new environmentally friendly approach for the synthesis of idrocilamide (1), a marketed myorelaxant and anti-inflammatory agent, is reported herein. The synthetic strategy involves a solvent-free aminolysis reaction catalyzed by zinc-containing species (ZnCl2 , montmorillonite K10 (MK10) impregnated with ZnCl2 or eco-catalysts). The latter have been prepared from the aerial parts of Lolium perenne L. plants grown on contaminated soils from northern France without and with thermal activation at 120 °C and supported on MK10 (Ecocat1 and Ecocat2, respectively). The best aminolysis catalysts in the current study (ZnCl2 and Ecocat2) were selected for additional aminolyses. Compared to ZnCl2 , Ecocat2 had the advantage of being reusable over five test runs and constituted a sustainable catalyst allowing a green route to idrocilamide. Synthesized derivatives 1-4, 6 and 9 were first evaluated for their effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation from macrophages and displayed antioxidant properties by preventing ROS production. Next, the analysis of the effect of molecules 1-4, 6 and 9 on macrophage migration between epithelial cells to human opportunistic fungus Candida albicans indicated that molecules 2-4, 6 and 9 exert anti-inflammatory properties via reducing macrophage migration while the parent idrocilamide (1) did not show any significant effect. This work opens the way for the discovery of new analogues of idrocilamide with improved properties.

Abstract: International audience; This chapter aims to examine the current challenges in electronic waste (e-waste) management in a new EU Member State like Romania. The chapter analyses the route from unsound disposal practices (e.g. illegal dumping) towards sustainable practices of e-waste under EU targets and objectives. This e-waste stream is toxic for the environment and public health, thus, proper collection, treatment, and recycling facilities are required. The waste management infrastructure must be completed by a comprehensive e-waste statistic database, reliable monitoring, and law enforcement activities. The chapter reveals the current gaps in e-waste management activities in Romania while highlighting the best practices in this sector. The chapter identifies the specific pathways for sustainable practices associated with electronic waste management. The role of different actors involved in e-waste flows is examined such as public institutions, private sector, NGOs or local community. This emerging e-waste stream has a high recycling and recovery potential which could further support a circular economy in Romania.

Abstract: We present a new geometrically nonlinear Cosserat shell model incorporating effects up to order $O(h^{5})$ in the shell thickness $h$ . The method that we follow is an educated 8-parameter ansatz for the three-dimensional elastic shell deformation with attendant analytical thickness integration, which leads us to obtain completely two-dimensional sets of equations in variational form. We give an explicit form of the curvature energy using the orthogonal Cartan-decomposition of the wryness tensor. Moreover, we consider the matrix representation of all tensors in the derivation of the variational formulation, because this is convenient when the problem of existence is considered, and it is also preferential for numerical simulations. The step by step construction allows us to give a transparent approximation of the three-dimensional parental problem. The resulting 6-parameter isotropic shell model combines membrane, bending and curvature effects at the same time. The Cosserat shell model naturally includes a frame of orthogonal directors, the last of which does not necessarily coincide with the normal of the surface. This rotation-field is coupled to the shell-deformation and augments the well-known Reissner-Mindlin kinematics (one independent director) with so-called in-plane drill rotations, the inclusion of which is decisive for subsequent numerical treatment and existence proofs. As a major novelty, we determine the constitutive coefficients of the Cosserat shell model in dependence on the geometry of the shell which are otherwise difficult to guess.

Abstract: The designation of taxonomic units has important implications for the understanding and conservation of biodiversity. Eurasian vipers are a monophyletic group of viperid snakes (Serpentes, Viperinae), currently comprising four genera (Daboia, Macrovipera, Montivipera and Vipera) and up to 40 species. Taxonomic units have been described using a wide variety of methods and criteria, and consequently, considerable controversy still surrounds the validity of some currently listed species. In order to promote a consensus- A nd evidence-based taxonomy of Eurasian vipers, we analysed published mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences for this group to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships among currently recognized viper species. We also compiled information on external morphology to assess their morphological distinctiveness. Phylogenetic inference based on mtDNA sequences shows contrasting levels of divergence across genera and species and identifies several instances of non-monophyly in described species. Nuclear DNA sequences show extremely low levels of genetic variation, with a widespread pattern of allele sharing among distant species, and even among genera. Revision of morphological data shows that most species designations rely on scalation traits that overlap extensively among species of the same genus. Based on our combined assessment, we recognize 15 taxa as valid species, three taxa which likely represent species complexes, 17 taxa of doubtful validity as species, and five taxa for which species status is maintained but further research is highly recommended to assess taxonomic arrangements. We report below on many threads of research in the area of foundations of reversible computing, giving particular emphasis to the results obtained in the framework of the European COST Action IC1405, entitled "Reversible Computation-Extending Horizons of Computing", which took place in the years 2015-2019.

Abstract: International audience; The photocatalytic performance of a commercial TiO2 doped by incipient wet impregnation with palladium (sample named TiO2-Pd), was evaluated in the heterogeneous degradation process using as test molecule the clofibric acid (CA), a metabolism product of a drug used as blood lipid regulator. The catalyst was characterised by XRD, SEM and UV-VIS reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic potential of this new catalyst was evaluated at laboratory scale under UV-A irradiation conditions. The influence of a few key parameters was studied in order to optimize the process conditions. The results shown that TiO2-Pd can completely remove the target pollutant under the optimal conditions (0.2 g/L catalyst, 5 mg/L CA, 6.2 mW/cm2 irradiation flux). Moreover, the CA mineralization was evaluated by TOC and a 65% mineralization yield was obtained, confirming the good photocatalytic activity of TiO2-Pd. © 2020 SYSCOM 18 S.R.L.. All rights reserved.

Abstract: International audience; We investigate the composites formed by a volume-changing material with a first-order spin transition [Fe-III(3-OMe-SalEen)(2)]PF6, when incorporated into a matrix of 1-butanol with a combination of calorimetric and magnetic measurements. DSC evidences the multiple phase transitions of the composite and the experimental conditions to select for promoting a possibly double phase transition of 1-butanol (crystallization) on both sides of the spin transition. Cycling the compound in the liquid matrix preserves the spin-transition properties of the reference with a 1 K wide hysteresis. In contrast, the crystallization around low-spin (high-spin) particles leads to changes in the heating (cooling) branch resulting in a non-persistent (persistent) hysteresis and a positive (negative) temperature shift, as a consequence of the environmental pressure experienced by the particles. The relaxed hysteretic regime that requires the crystallization of butanol around the high-spin particles of higher volume was studied by first-order reversal curves (FORCs) technique. The particular shape of FORCs shows a cooperative mechanism and the absence of the reversible component that was previously assigned to particles-matrix elastic interactions. The first-order spin transition of a single-crystal was characterized with X-ray diffraction measurements in presence of a thin layer of 1-butanol. The temperature dependence of the volume and unit-cell parameters reproduces the changes characterizing the matrix solidification around an ensemble of low-spin (butanol coating) or high-spin (paratone coating) particles. It is also shown that the increase of cooperativity resulting from the mechanical interactions taking place in the particle-matrix system can partly counterbalance the loss of cooperativity observed when reducing the size of the spin-transition materials.

Abstract: International audience; This report deals with the design, the synthesis, and the pharmacological evaluation of pyroglutamide-based P2X7 antagonists. A dozen were shown to possess improved properties, among which inhibition of YO-PRO-1/TO-PRO-3 uptake and IL1β release upon BzATP activation of the receptor and dampening signs of DSS-induced colitis on mice, in comparison with reference antagonist GSK1370319A. Docking study and biological evaluation of synthesized compounds has highlighted new SAR, and low toxicity profiles of pyroglutamides herein described are clues for the finding of a usable h-P2X7 antagonist drug. Such a drug would raise the hope for a cure to many P2X7-dependent pathologies, including inflammatory, neurological, and immune diseases.

Abstract: International audience; The exposure of rural communities to illegal waste dumping practices associated with the lack of or poor waste collection schemes prior to the closure of rural dumpsites under EU regulations and the role of collection efficiency afterward in reducing this critical environmental threat constitutes a key issue in rural Romania. The present study reveals huge amounts of household uncollected waste released into the natural environment outside the official statistics of rural dumpsites. Despite the expansion of waste collection coverage towards rural areas since 2010, the problem of illegal dumping practice is difficult to solve. The improvement of collection efficiency, better law enforcement, and surveillance of environmental authorities coupled with educational and environmental awareness are necessary steps to combat this bad practice. A circular economy paradigm must be enacted in rural regions through separate collection schemes and to improve cost-efficient alternatives, such as home composting, and traditional and creative reuse practices, particularly in less developed regions

Abstract: A restoration of highly contaminated garden soil is proposed as a greener alternative to the production of vegetables. Depending on potentially toxic elements and their concentration, ryegrass shoots accumulate these elements in sufficient quantity to be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. The analysis of Cd, Pb, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Al in ashes issued from the calcination of ryegrass shoots revealed that the concentration of Zn was highest (&gt, 7000 mg kg&ndash, 1). The ratios between potential Lewis acids (Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Al) to carcinogenic metals (Cd or Pb) were 191 &plusmn, 7 for LA/Cd and 235 &plusmn, 13 for LA/Pb, making the shoots of ryegrass suitable for the production of Zn-rich polymetallic biosourced catalysts. This material was used in the synthesis of idrocilamide under free-solvent condition, providing the drug in a good yield (69.9%). Data show that a limitation of waste, a maximization of the material incorporation in the process, a minimization of the steps, and an optimization of the stoichiometric factor are the main innovative factors in the current process in comparison with those previously reported.

Abstract: International audience; This paper proposes a new approach, interval Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (i-SLAM), which addresses the robotic mapping problem in the context of interval methods, where the robot sensor noise is assumed bounded. With no prior knowledge about the noise distribution or its probability density function, we derive and present necessary conditions to guarantee the map convergence even in the presence of nonlinear observation and motion models. These conditions may require the presence of some anchoring landmarks with known locations. The performance of i-SLAM is compared with the probabilistic counterparts in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

Abstract: The thermal spin transition of [Fe(pz)Pt(CN)4], pz = pyrazine, nanoparticles is compared with the one of the microcrystalline powder by magnetic susceptibility measurements, absorption spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) using synchrotron radiation. The thermal transition shows less cooperativity when decreasing the size due to the reduction of cluster formation. Surprisingly, the dispersion of the nanoparticles on a surface entails important effects on the spin crossover properties of the system. These effects are simulated and explained within the framework of the mechanoelastic model.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, we study the anisotropy classes of the fourth order elastic tensors of the relaxed micro-morphic model, also introducing their second order counterpart by using a Voigt-type vector notation. In strong contrast with the usual micromorphic theories, in our relaxed micromorphic model only classical elasticity-tensors with at most 21 independent components are studied together with rotational coupling tensors with at most 6 independent components. We show that in the limit case Lc → 0 (which corresponds to considering very large specimens of a microstructured metamaterial the meso-and micro-coefficients of the relaxed model can be put in direct relation with the macroscopic stiffness of the medium via a fundamental homogenization formula. We also show that a similar homogenization formula is not possible in the case of the standard Mindlin-Eringen-format of the anisotropic micromorphic model. Our results allow us to forecast the successful short term application of the relaxed micromorphic model to the characterization of anisotropic mechanical metamaterials.

Abstract: International audience; Two kitchen garden soils (A and B) sampled in contaminated areas were amended using phosphates in sustainable quantities in order to reduce the environmental availability of potentially toxic inorganic elements (PTEs) and to favour the availability of alkali, alkali earth and micronutrients. The environmental availability of PTEs was evaluated using a potential plant for revegetation of contaminated soils (ryegrass) and a mixture of low molecular weight organic acids. Despite the highest contamination level of B, the concentration of metals was highest in the ryegrass shoots grown on A for the two harvests. These results correlated well with those obtained using low molecular weight organic acids for Cd, Zn and Cu, whereas this mixture failed to represent the transfer of nutrients due to the presence of biological and physiological mechanisms. The statistical differences between the biomass of ryegrass obtained at the first and the second harvests were attributed to the decrease of available potassium, implicated in the growth and development of plants. Phosphates increased the ratios Zn/Cd, Zn/Pb and Zn/Cu up to 176 ± 48, 38 ± 6 and 80 ± 12, respectively, and made possible the reduction of the concentration of Cd and Pb in the shoots of ryegrass by 22% and 25%, respectively. The concentration of Zn in the shoots of ryegrass from the first and the second harvests grown on soil A were in the range 1050–2000 mg kg−1, making this plant a potential biomass to (i) produce biosourced catalysts for organic chemistry applications in a circular economy concept and (ii) limit human exposure to commercial Lewis acids. Abstract: International audience; Organic−inorganic hybrid mesostructured silicas are prepared, without stirring (at pH = 0.0) and with stirring (at pH = 0.6) to obtain isolated and gyroidal-like attached silica grains with incorporated triblock P123 poly (ethylene oxide)-poly (propylene oxide)–poly (ethylene oxide) copolymers. Selected hybrids are submitted to various thermal and aging treatments for studying hydrolysis and oxidation of PEO and PPO chains. Two complementary spectroscopic techniques are used: near-infrared (NIR) with measurements performed in diffuse reflectance, as well as 1H and 13C liquid- and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to study the mobility and stability of PEO and PPO chains. With precipitated fresh hybrids, the ratio of PEO over (PEO + PPO) units is lower (30% ± 5%) than in theory. This ratio also decreases depending on temperature when a hydrothermal treatment is applied. An acidic hydrolysis involving both PEO and PPO chains, with generated fragments eliminated by washing with water and/or synthesis liquor, is then demonstrated. For comparison, another hybrid obtained by spray drying via evaporation-induced self assembly mechanism is also studied. Its NMR signals are much more stable than those of the samples prepared by precipitation. Depending on aging time, thermal history, and materials processing, the textural properties and template decomposition inside mesostructured silica are found significantly different. The influence of the hydrolysis and oxidation of the template onto final materials texture is likely to be as important as the processing conditions.

Abstract: International audience; Spin-crossover molecules are very appealing for use in multifunctional spintronic devices because of their ability to switch between high-spin and low-spin states with external stimuli such as voltage and light. In actual devices, the molecules are deposited on a substrate, which can modify their properties. However, surprisingly little is known about such molecule–substrate effects. Here we show for the first time, by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, that an FeII spin-crossover molecular layer displays a well-defined epitaxial relationship with a metal substrate. Then we show, by both density functional calculations and a mechanoelastic model, that the resulting epitaxial strain and the related internal pressure can induce a partial spin conversion at low temperatures, which has indeed been observed experimentally. Our results emphasize the importance of substrate-induced spin state transitions and raise the possibility of exploiting them.

Abstract: International audience; Between 1990 and 2015, the annual global amount of CO 2 emission generated by transport has increased by 68%, from around 4.6 GtCO 2 to around 7.7 GtCO 2. Technological advances towards eco-friendly vehicles and policy incentives promoting environmental-friendly modes of transport have thus been offset by economic growth and increasing mobility. This study questions the relationship between economic growth and sustainability performance of transport sector. It adds to the literature new insights concerning recent trends in the relationship between gross domestic product and various aspects of transport sustainability such as carbon footprint, carbon intensity and transport safety. A particular attention is given to discussing the emerging issues of "carbon inequality" and the role of political entities that contribute most to global CO 2 emissions, such China, USA and the EU. Finally, this study adds to the literature a composite index of transport sustainability performance and explores between-country inequalities in terms of sustainability performance.

Abstract: Geotourism is a useful way to educate societies in the field of geomorphology and related natural hazards. Geosites, including geomorphosites, represent the basis for the development of this type of tourism. This study describes 12 representative gully regions within nine European countries. The characteristics of 42 permanent gullies, gully systems, and badland landscapes are presented. Based on scientific values of the sites, educational lessons to be learned were identified that are mainly related to (i) gullies as a geological window, (ii) present-day geomorphological processes and (iii) stages of historical gully erosion reflecting past human¿environment interactions. To evaluate possible education activities, a geotouristic assessment of the studied gullies and badlands was made, based on scientific, educational, functional and touristic indicators. This assessment demonstrates a large difference between the selected gully and badland sites, particularly with regard to functional and tourist values. The geotouristic potential of gullies (badlands) is the highest in Italy and Spain and the lowest in Romania and Latvia. In some countries, permanent gullies are not regarded as geotouristic attractions at all,while in others, they constitute a significant element of their tourism development strategy. In our opinion, all activities must be part of a broader strategy for the development of geotourism in gully and badland regions, for example, gullies may be included as geosites within existing or planned geoparks., The research in Slovakia was supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency under the contract no. Five main stages related to C&amp, DW management are highlighted such as: (i) illegal dumping on public lands, (ii) C&amp, DW collection and disposal in urban landfills, (iii) C&amp, DW treatment and reuse in civil constructions (roads, coating material for landfills), (iv) regional integrated waste management systems, (v) recycling of building materials (e.g., cement industry and recycled aggregates). The paper reveals the poor monitoring of C&amp, DW flows across Romanian counties and the geographical dimension of this waste stream collected by waste operators. The paper examines the current challenges in Romania and it reveals the future prospects to provide a reliable transition towards sustainable C&amp, DW management activities. The targeted route: waste fractions can be recycled and/or reused as building materials via integrated waste management systems, which enable a circular economy in urban and rural municipalities.

Abstract: Ge-Sb-Te thin films were obtained by ns-, ps-, and fs-pulsed laser deposition (PLD) in various experimental conditions. The thickness of the samples was influenced by the Nd-YAG laser wavelength, fluence, target-to-substrate distance, and deposition time. The topography and chemical analysis results showed that the films deposited by ns-PLD revealed droplets on the surface together with a decreased Te concentration and Sb over-stoichiometry. Thin films with improved surface roughness and chemical compositions close to nominal values were deposited by ps- and fs-PLD. The X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy results showed that the samples obtained with ns pulses were partially crystallized while the lower fluences used in ps- and fs-PLD led to amorphous depositions. The optical parameters of the ns-PLD samples were correlated to their structural properties. Tenké vrstvy Ge-Sb-Te byly získány ns, ps a fs pulzní laserovou depozicí (PLD) za různých experimentálních podmínek. Tloušťka vrstev byla ovlivněna vlnovou délkou Nd-YAG laseru, hustotou energie, vzdáleností mezi terčem a substrátem a depozičním časem. Výsledky topografie a chemická analýza ukázaly, že vrstvy připravené ns PLD obsahují kapky na povrch a nižší koncentraci Te a nadstechiometrii Sb. Tenké vrstvy s lepší povrchovou drsností a chemickým složením blízkým nominálním hodnotám byly deponovány ps a fs PLD. Výsledky rentgenové difrakce a Ramanovy spektroskopie ukázaly, že vzorky získané ns pulzy byly částečně krystalické, zatímco nižší hustoty energie použité při ps a fs PLD vedly k amorfním vrstvám. Optické parametry vzorků připravených ns PLD byly korelovány s jejich strukturními vlastnostmi.

Abstract: Unprecedented triazinyl-isoxazoles were afforded via an effective cycloaddition reaction between nitrile oxides and the scarcely described 2-ethynyl-4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazine as dipolarophile. The biological evaluation of the newly synthesized compounds showed that the inhibition of human farnesyltransferase by zinc complexation could be improved with triazine-isoxazole moieties. The replacement of the isoxazole unit by a pyrrolidin-2-one was detrimental to the inhibitory activity while the pyrrolidin-2-thione derivatives conserved the biological potential. The potential of selected compounds to disrupt protein farnesylation in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells transfected with pEGFP-CAAX was also evaluated.
