Objective. In this study, the biological effect of MTA Repair HP (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate Repair High Plasticity) and Biodentine have been tested on a stabilized fibroblast cell line NCTC clone 929. Materials and Methods. We assessed quantitative and qualitative parameters related to cytotoxic effect of the investigated products. The experimental period was 96 hours. Statistical analysis was performed with Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon tests. Results. The detached cells test showed no statistically significant difference on cell culture for Biodentine and MTA Repair HP, while for the cellular density assay we found the same biological effect on the tested fibroblasts in the first 24 and 48 hours, but a significant different cellular response for the investigated pulp capping materials for the next 48 hours of the experiment. Conclusions. The results demonstrated that the materials presented a very low level of cytotoxicity. Biodentine showed in all parameters better biological effects than MTA Repair HP, expressed by lower and limited cellular damage and a higher cell density.

Primary root canal infection is a dynamic process. All species of oral microbiota have comparable abilities to establish in the root canals of necrotic teeth. The essential ecological factors in their biological selection are nutrient availability, anaerobic environment and bacterial interactions. In chronic apical periodontitis, all selected microflora residing in the long-term infected habitat of root canals system are synergistic, and each of them can play the role of an endodontic pathogen. Microorganisms living in the root canal system of pulpless teeth progressively reach through anatomical communications to the periodontal ligament where, sooner or later, they cause the inflammatory and immunological conflict between the infection and the host. The insight into the complexity of the root canal microbiota is improved by the current pyrosequencing and next-generation sequencing diagnostic techniques, which allow the identification of multispecies of the microbiome and their targeted treatment. Malignant nasopharyngeal tumors account for approximately 4% of ENT malignant tumor pathology and 1% of all cancers. The diagnosis of nasopharyngeal tumors is often late, the reason being the location in a silent anatomical region in terms of symptomatology and accessibility. Thus, approximately 70% of newly diagnosed patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma unfortunately present with the condition in an advanced local stage. The early signs and symptoms are varied (nasal obstruction, hearing loss, otalgia, headache) and are usually ignored by the patient and even by the doctor in the initial stage of nasopharyngeal tumor evolution. Approximately 5% of patients have systemic metastases at presentation, the most common location being bone. Latent Epstein-Barr virus infection appears to be involved in the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. There is no exact evidence of how often a nasopharynx tumor’s first sign is unilateral hearing loss. Thus, further work is required to determine that exactly to help patients get diagnosed faster and therefore improving their therapeutical options. This study aims to explore which symptoms are most common as the first indication of NPC, as well as how these symptoms compare to each other in terms of frequency and likelihood of occurrence.

Background and Study Aim. The physical demands of the winger position in elite handball require a unique combination of upper body speed and lower body strength. Therefore, identifying the optimal relationship between these two physical characteristics could improve performance for players in this role. This study aims to analyze the relationship between upper body speed capacity and lower body strength in elite handball players specializing in the winger position. Material and Methods. The study included 16 elite handball players specializing in the winger position from various teams in the National Handball League (Liga Zimbrilor). Four of these players were members of the Dinamo Bucharest team. Tests for evaluating the explosive strength of the lower limbs included the Squat Jump (SJ), Counter Movement Jump (CMJ), Counter Movement Jump with Free Arms (CMJb), and the maximum strength test (1RM) in squats. Specific technical training tests included triangular movement, a 30-meter sprint, and long-distance handball throws, focusing on speed and execution technique. Data analysis was conducted using KyPlot 6.0 software. Statistical indicators included median, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, and non-parametric Spearman correlation tests. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results. The results show no statistically significant differences in lower limb strength between high-performance handball players (HPHP) and those specialized in the winger position (PSW) across various jump and squat tests (p > 0.05). The Countermovement Jump (CMJ) test approached statistical significance (p = 0.084), while the CMJ with free arms (CMJb) and squat strength test did not show significant differences (p = 0.231 and p = 0.789, respectively). In the specific fitness tests, no significant differences were observed in the Triangle Movement test (p = 0.826), the 30-meter sprint (p = 0.404), or the handball throw test (p = 0.147). Correlation analysis indicated that squats and CMJb had positive correlations with improved performance in speed and distance tests, while CMJ showed a negative correlation with technical performance in agility tests. Conclusions. The findings suggest that lower limb strength and technical fitness are similar between elite handball players, regardless of specialization. This supports a unified training approach across player roles. However, targeted exercises like squats and CMJb may enhance specific performance aspects. These exercises improve dynamic strength and stability, which can benefit wingers' technical execution and speed.

Abstract Negative bias is an essential characteristic of depressive episodes leading patients to attribute more negative valence to environmental cues. This negative bias affects all levels of information processing including emotional response, attention and memory, leading to the development and maintenance of depressive symptoms. In this context, pleasant stimuli become less attractive and unpleasant ones more aversive, yet the related neural circuits underlying this bias remain largely unknown. By studying a mice model for depression chronically receiving corticosterone (CORT), we showed a negative bias in valence attribution to olfactory stimuli that responds to antidepressant drug. This result paralleled the alterations in odor value assignment we observed in bipolar depressed patients. Given the crucial role of amygdala in valence coding and its strong link with depression, we hypothesized that basolateral amygdala (BLA) circuits alterations might support negative shift associated with depressive states. Contrary to humans, where limits in spatial resolution of imaging tools impair easy amygdala segmentation, recently unravelled specific BLA circuits implicated in negative and positive valence attribution could be studied in mice. Combining CTB and rabies-based tracing with ex vivo measurements of neuronal activity, we demonstrated that negative valence bias is supported by disrupted activity of specific BLA circuits during depressive states. Chronic CORT administration induced decreased recruitment of BLA-to-NAc neurons preferentially involved in positive valence encoding, while increasing recruitment of BLA-to-CeA neurons preferentially involved in negative valence encoding. Importantly, this dysfunction was dampened by chemogenetic hyperactivation of BLA-to-NAc neurons. Moreover, altered BLA activity correlated with durable presynaptic connectivity changes coming from the paraventricular nucleus of the thalamus, recently demonstrated as orchestrating valence assignment in the amygdala. Together, our findings suggest that specific BLA circuits alterations might support negative bias in depressive states and provide new avenues for translational research to understand the mechanisms underlying depression and treatment efficacy.

Nowadays, digital technologies represent an essential tool for dentists and dental technicians, and the backbone of the communication between them. Aim of the study is to analyze the application of digital technologies in a common dental office and in transferring information to the dental lab. Materials and methods. The retrospective study included patients who presented for treatment to the dentist, in a 12 months period of time. Searched databases included dental charts, radiologic and imagistic data (OPG, CBCT), clinical photos and digital dental impressions. A comparison was made between the used digital tools as frequency. Results: 580 patients were included, 275 men and 305 women, aged between 19 and 82. Digital technologies used in the dental office in the studied period were: OPG (100%), CBCT examinations (25,34%), digital photographic exams (38,10%), intraoral scanning (24,13%), digital intraoral impressions (19,65%). Conclusions: All patients who attended the dental office during the study period received an OPG examination, while significant fewer patients were investigated using other digital technologies. For an easier, faster and complete data transfer between dental office and dental lab, digital evaluation is mandatory.

This review aims to explore and highlight the relationships between heart disease and oral health, highlighting the interconnections between oral health and overall heart condition. In light of recent research, it is becoming increasingly apparent that poor oral health, including conditions such as gingivitis and periodontitis, can contribute to the development or worsening of heart disease. This review looks at the biological mechanisms by which oral health problems can influence cardiovascular health, including aspects such as systemic inflammation and the dissemination of oral bacteria into the bloodstream. Prevention and management strategies for improving oral health in the context of heart disease are also discussed, highlighting the essential role of collaboration between dentists and cardiologists.

This paper examines the effectiveness of custom dental implants in managing oral complications associated with Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel condition that can significantly affect patients’ oral health. By reviewing the existing literature and studying clinical cases, we analyze the success rates of dental implants, their integration in the context of immunosuppressive treatments, the improvement of masticatory function, and their impact on the quality of life of patients. Reviewed studies indicate that, with proper planning and careful postoperative management, dental implants can provide a durable and effective solution for patients with Crohn’s disease, with success rates comparable to those of the general population. We also discuss the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in the planning and implementation of personalized dental treatments, as well as the need for continuous monitoring to prevent complications. The results highlight the potential of dental implants to significantly improve oral functionality and aesthetics, thus contributing to the overall improvement of the quality of life of patients with Crohn’s disease. These findings encourage greater attention to the personalization of dental treatments for this category of patients, given the complexity of managing their health condition.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a distinct category of lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by the clonal expansion of mature B cells, followed by their accumulation in primary and secondary lymphoid organs. Cluster of differentiation (CD) markers such as CD79b, CD45, CD23, CD22 and CD81 serve as reliable prognostic indicators in CLL as well as the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) with its well-documented associations with various cancers. This study aims to investigate, for the first time, potential connections between HLA typing and CD marker expression in CLL. Although it is one of the most prevalent neoplasms, there is a need for biomarkers that can improve survival. This study included 66 CLL patients and 100 controls, with all samples analyzed using biochemical methods, flow cytometry, and cytomorphology. Next-generation sequencing was performed for HLA typing. The results indicate that several CD markers are statistically associated with different HLA alleles, specifically CD45 with HLA-C*07:01:01; CD79b with HLA-DPA1*02:01:02; CD23 with HLA-B*39:01:01; CD22 with HLA-B*49:01:01, HLA-C*07:01:01, HLA-DPB1*02:01:02, and HLA-DRB1*07:01:01; and CD81 with HLA-DPB1*04:02:01, HLA-DQA1*01:04:01, and HLA-DQB1*05:03:01. In conclusion, this research demonstrates significant statistical links between HLA genes and immunophenotypic markers in CLL patients, shedding new light on the immunological context of CLL.

The time period (3 to 7 days) from the collection of biological samples (ie nasal exudate, pharyngeal exudate, sputum, blood culture and various secretions) to the arrival of the results has been a much discussed issue. Thus, the use of a rapid diagnostic test for Streptococcus pneumoniae urinary antigen, which is easy to use, may lead after the result is known to a targeted therapeutic management and thus to a favorable prognosis of the disease for the patient.Methods: This case report presents the case of a 4 years and 5 months old patient diagnosed with invasive pneumococcal-associated pneumococcal infection in the context of SARS-COV2 infection.Results: The clinical course was slowly favorable with complications that required a long hospitalization.Conclusion: In conclusion, some rapid diagnostic techniques, clinician judgment and some prevention methods, such as vaccination, can improve a patient’s quality of life. The root canal irrigation going along with instrumentation is a mandatory attitude in current endodontic practice. To increase the evacuation efficacy of dental pulp remnants, dentin debris and bacterial biofilms from root canals and lateral irregularities including canal isthmuses, various procedures of irrigants activation were conceived. If not yet quite satisfactory, among various techniques of irrigant activation currently used the passive ultrasonic activation proved to be more efficient to achieving cleaning and disinfection of root canal isthmuses.

Treatments in dentistry currently consist of an interdisciplinary approach, including (but not necessarily limited to) the holistic perspective. The different fields of allopathic and complementary medicine are used together to ensure not only a high-quality restorative treatment, but also to provide patients with psychological and emotional support. This perspective also applies to dental anxiety, which consists of complex (emotional, vegetative and psychomotor) manifestations. One of the most well-known complementary therapies for reducing dental fear and anxiety is BachTM Flower Therapy. Even if the mechanism of action of this therapy is not yet scientifically documented, notable results have been and continue to be reported in the literature in several clinical studies on patients with dental diseases. It is indicated for both adults and children, in the latter when they go through major biological changes, such as primary and permanent dentition. As a conclusion, BachTM flower therapy is effective and complementary to dental treatments applied to patients, by reducing stress, anxiety, as well as creating a climate of peace, trust and confidence, both for the patient and the doctor. In addition, it is a relatively accessible and cheap form of care, with no significant adverse effects noted so far.

Nasopharyngeal hemorrhage is one of the most common ear, nose, and throat (ENT) emergencies that present in a hospital or primary care clinic. While many cases of hemorrhage are self-limiting, in more severe cases medical intervention is necessary, either to cauterize the bleeding vessel or to pack the nose with various materials (thus involving specialized medical care and time, which implicitly lead to additional costs). In the case of the packaging, the medical treatment can in some cases be extremely painful and unpleasant. Tranexamic acid is an affordable, inexpensive, easy-to-use antifibrinolytic agent and with no notable side effects, as demonstrated by numerous studies related to most surgical fields. The aim of this paper is to provide an evidence-based approach to the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in nasopharyngeal hemorrhages in our research center, comparing with the available literature on the subject, but presented in an updated form. As a conclusion, the combined use (intravenous and topical) of TXA may be a reasonable, safe and non-invasive option for hemodynamic stabilization of rhino-pharyngeal bleeding.

Background and Study Aim. Biomechanics is a fundamental component of Kinesiology, offering critical insights into the mechanics of human movement. As the demand for comprehensive educational programs in Kinesiology grows, understanding the role and effectiveness of biomechanics within these programs becomes increasingly important. The aim of the study is to investigate and highlight the role and importance of biomechanics in the context of higher education, with an emphasis on the discipline of Kinesiology. Material and Methods. This study involved 71 students from the Department of Physical Education and Sport at Pitești University Center. It included 43 students specializing in Physical Education and Sport (PES) and 28 in Sports and Motor Performance (SMP). The research utilized the university's e-learning platform to monitor teaching and evaluation activities within the Kinesiology discipline. The evaluation of fundamental Kinesiology knowledge was assessed through various indicators. Google Forms-Questionnaire sought to gauge student opinions on the thematic content of Biomechanics as applied to Kinesiology and to evaluate the teaching staff. The nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis Test was employed to analyze differences in means across the groups. Results. The study revealed a diverse interest in sports across the Physical Education and Sport (PES) and Sports and Motor Performance (SMP) programs. Soccer, basketball, and handball were the most popular among students. Comparative analysis of academic performance showed no significant differences between the groups in various assessments (p>0.05). The overall student feedback on the "Fundamentals of Biomechanics of Physical Activities and Sports" course was predominantly positive. Over 50% of the students rated it as very good. Areas for improvement in teaching methods were also identified to enhance the academic experience. Conclusions. This study highlights the effective integration of biomechanics within the Kinesiology discipline at the higher education level. Findings suggest that well-structured educational programs can enhance students' understanding and application of biomechanics. This contributes positively to their academic and professional development in sports sciences. Continuous curriculum assessment and refinement are crucial for maintaining the relevance and effectiveness of such programs.

Proximal surfaces of both anterior and posterior teeth frequently present dental caries, as a result of complex coronal morphology and other associated factors which favors bacterial microfilm retention. In this article we present the second part results of a cross-sectional study, using a questionnaire that was distributed to a number of 110 Romanian dentists. We investigated the most used dental materials and techniques and correlations with oral restorations longevity, and also the failures and patients‘ complaints. The results indicate a modern, up to date approach of direct restoration in adjacent teeth from Romanian interviewed dentist.

Aim of the study The primary objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive assessment of noble metal cements in dental medicine. By synthesizing relevant scientific literature, we aim to offer a thorough understanding of the characteristics, applications, advantages, and disadvantages of noble metal cements in contemporary dental practice. Through an evidence-based approach, our study seeks to inform dental professionals and researchers about the role and considerations surrounding the use of noble metal cements in restorative and prosthetic dentistry. Material and methods In pursuit of our study’s objectives, we conducted an extensive exploration of the pertinent scientific literature. To gather relevant information and data, systematic searches were meticulously executed in electronic databases known for their dental and medical coverage. These databases included PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Our search criteria were designed to retrieve articles published from May and onwards, ensuring that our review encompasses the most contemporary research and developments in the field of noble metal cements in dental medicine. Results The results of this comprehensive review are presented in a structured and organized manner, shedding light on various aspects of noble metal cements in dental medicine. We synthesize the current scientific knowledge regarding the properties, applications, and advantages of noble metal cements while also addressing potential disadvantages and limitations. Through our analysis, we aim to provide a holistic perspective on the use of noble metal cements in various dental scenarios. Conclusions Drawing from the gathered data and insights, our review offers conclusions that underscore the significance of noble metal cements in dental medicine. We discuss their biocompatibility, durability, malleability, and versatility, while also acknowledging considerations related to cost, esthetics, and environmental impact. By addressing these aspects, our study provides valuable guidance for dental professionals, educators, and researchers, supporting evidence-based decision-making in the use of noble metal cements for dental restorations and prosthetic applications.

Abstract Background In patients with renal artery stenosis, revascularization was seen as a mean to improve outcomes, but large studies failed to show significant benefit in general population. However, data on benefits of renal artery stenting in patients with high-risk features, such as rapidly declining renal function and cardiac destabilization syndromes, are limited, as they were excluded from trials. In this descriptive study, we aimed to evaluate short- and long-term outcomes in high-risk patients with renal artery stenosis, treated by angioplasty and stenting. We have retrospectively interrogated our local databases for renal artery percutaneous interventions; patients at high-risk (rapidly declining renal function; stable chronic renal failure and bilateral renal artery disease; severe hypertensive crisis) were selected for the current analysis. Results Of 30 patients undergoing renal artery stenting, 18 patients were deemed "high-risk." On short term, good in-hospital control of hypertension and cardiac stabilization were obtained in all patients. Renal function improved significantly only in patients admitted with rapidly declining renal function, with significant creatinine level fall from median 3.98 mg/dL to 2.02 mg/dL, p = 0.023. However, for the whole group, creatinine change was non-significant (− 0.12 mg/dL, p = NS). On the long term, five patients (27.8%) ended-up on chronic hemodialysis and six patients died (33.3%) after a median of 20 months. No death occurred during the first year after the procedure. Conclusions Percutaneous procedures are feasible and safe in patients with high-risk renal artery stenosis, especially in those with rapidly declining renal function, probably saving some of them from the immediate need for renal replacement therapy, but long-term results are negatively influenced by the precarious general and cardio-vascular status of these patients and by the pre-existing significant renal parenchymal disease, non-related to the renal artery stenosis.

Aim of the study The aim of this study is to emphasize the principles of face burn management based on our personal experience correlated with published literature data. We aim to illustrate different possible approaches of treatment in order to obtain good functional and aesthetic outcomes. Material and methods The study group included 342 patients (144 females and 198 males), with ages ranging between 18 and 92 years old, hospitalized and treated in the Burn Unit from the “Sf. Spiridon” Emergency County Hospital from Iași, Romania, during december 2020 – october 2023. The inclusion criteria for the study were: patients over 18 years old, isolated burn lesions only of the face or in association with burn lesions distributed on various anatomical regions, burns of all degrees. Results The group included 144 females (42,1%) and 198 males (57,89%). The etiologies of the burns were represented by flame (123 cases) – 35,96%, scald (103 cases) – 30,11%, contact (52) – 15,20%, electrocutions (31) – 9,06% or ultraviolet exposure (33) – 9,64%. 134 patients (39,18%) had isolated lesions of the face and 208 patients (60,81%) associated other localisations as well. Out of the total number of cases, the majority (276 cases) – 69% were treated conservatory, while 31% required different forms of surgical interventions. Conclusions The management of facial burns must be multidisciplinary and early in the face of serious complications that may endanger the vital, functional and aesthetic prognosis. Periodic evaluations must be constant and involve the physical and mental status of the patient. Social, family and professional integration takes a significant place in the overall management of facial burns to limit the difficulty of reintegration of a person affected by burns.

Composed on the background of heterophony “Solo for marimbaphone and vibraphone” remains a unique opus in the genre’s literature. Certainly, an opus which highlights the composer’s remarkable style and talent for creating new compositional techniques having links with modern mathematics, especially with graph theory and group theory. That is why this work illustrates the composer’s modern vision on music in respect with the rising of heterophony, at the standard of syntax and stylization proper to XX century contemporary music. This article seeks to demonstrate that the aesthetic value of “Solo” is given by an internal unity making both marimbaphone and vibraphone complete heterophony, to give out a simultaneous variation of a single melodic line.

Încă de la prima vedere, volumul impresionează prin calitatea înaltă a tehnoredactării: tipar, hârtie de calitate superioară, mulțimea, expresivitatea, documentaritatea și calitatea imaginilor care completează în mod armonios textul, precum și aparatul critic vast, care este parte întregitoare a volumului. Prima impresie a lucrului bine făcut se confirmă și se întărește mai ales atunci când cititorul lecturează volumul; el este structurat în șapte capitol, are un aparat critic extins, respectiv „Anexe”, „Note”, „Indice de localități și persoane”, „Glosar”, „Abrevieri”, „Sursa imaginilor”, „Bibliografie” și o scurtă notiță „Autorii”. „Cuvânt înainte al autorilor”, precum și „Rezumat” și „Postfață și mulțumiri”, preced și încheie volumul monografic. Autorii argumentează în „Cuvânt înainte” motivația realizării vastei monografii: „Dorința de a cunoaște trecutul propriei localități este una firească, istoria locului fiind pentru mulți legată de istoria strămoșilor lor și totodată o părticică a istoriei țării. În cazul unui sat ca Apoldu de Sus, în care au conviețuit mai multe etnii, este interesant de văzut care au fost relațiile dintre ele, ce obiceiuri a avut fiecare, ce porturi populare, cum și ce au sărbătorit oamenii, și nu în ultimul rând care a fost viața de zi cu zi în vremurile despre care se mai știe acest lucru. [...] în atenția autorilor a stat folosirea unui număr mare de fotografii și tipărirea cărții în condiții grafice bune” (p. 9). Realizarea monografiei a izvorât, mărturisesc autorii, din dorința etnicilor germani emigrați în Germania, care doreau „a avea o publicație despre localitatea lor de baștină” cu scopul „de a-și defini identitatea”! (p. 9), autorii menționând onest sursele de documentare, colaboratorii, precum și finanțarea lucrării.

Drosophila melanogaster has been at the forefront of genetic studies and biochemical modeling for over a century. Yet, the functions of many genes are still unknown, mainly because no phenotypic data are available. Herein, we present the first evidence data regarding the particular molecular and other quantifiable phenotypes, such as viability and anatomical anomalies, induced by a novel P{lacW} insertional mutant allele of the CG18135 gene. So far, the CG18135 functions have only been theorized based on electronic annotation and presumptive associations inferred upon high-throughput proteomics or RNA sequencing experiments. The descendants of individuals harboring the CG18135P{lacW}CG18135 allele were scored in order to assess mutant embryonic, larval, and pupal viability versus Canton Special (CantonS). Our results revealed that the homozygous CG18135P{lacW}CG18135/CG18135P{lacW}CG18135 genotype determines significant lethality both at the inception of the larval stage and during pupal development. The very few imago escapers that either breach or fully exit the puparium exhibit specific eye depigmentation, wing abnormal unfolding, strong locomotor impairment with apparent spasmodic leg movements, and their maximum lifespan is shorter than 2 days. Using the quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) method, we found that CG18135 is upregulated in male flies, but an unexpected gene upregulation was also detected in heterozygous mutants compared to wild-type flies, probably because of regulatory perturbations induced by the P{lacW} transposon. Our work provides the first phenotypic evidence for the essential role of CG18135, a scenario in accordance with the putative role of this gene in carbohydrate-binding processes.

Background and Study Aim. Elite handball goalkeepers undergo intensive training for reflexes and advanced techniques. They develop mental toughness to handle the pressure and responsibility at key moments of the game. Thus, they protect the goal of the team. This study aims to investigate and highlight the specific training characteristics of elite handball players specialized in the goalkeeper position. Material and Methods. The best 4 goalkeepers specialized in elite handball in Romania, aged between 22 and 33 years, were selected. Specific motor tests were used: Test 1 - Jumps 15 seconds; Test 2 – Reaction speed to visual stimulus; Test 3 – Execution speed. Technical tests were used: Test specific to goalkeeper, Triangle moving, The Ten Jump, Ball throwing, Standing long jump, Passes to a fixed point; The Cooper test. To improve specific training, there were applied strategies for training optimization which include stretching for mobility, segmental muscle strength, goalkeeping specific exercises and plyometrics. Auxetic structurals have been found to possess a number of better qualities when compared to traditional ones, including: greater energy absorption, stronger indentation resistance, and enhanced mechanical properties. As a result, auxetic structures are becoming more known as a high-performance, lightweight defensive construction that can survive collisions and blasts.

CBCT offers many significant advantages in dentistry, while the periapical radiographs provide a cheaper technique and a lower radiation compared to CT scan. The aim of this clinical case was to compare the outcome 1 year after root canal treatment, using digital periapical radiographs versus CBCT. Tooth 46 with necrotic pulp and periapical periodontitis was rotary prepared and filled using continuous wave condensation and AH Plus. X-rays and CBCT scans were made both before and after the treatment, at 1 year recall. On x-ray the lesion appeared to be healed, while on CBCT one can still see a smaller lesion, so the tooth is healing. The increased accuracy of CBCT offers the most relevant information for the outcome of endodontic treatment.

Dental caries located on adjacent approximal tooth surfaces represent one of the most widespread clinical situations dentists encounter in dental practice. This article presents a cross-sectional study, using a questionnaire that was distributed to a number of 110 practicing Romanian dentists, regarding the prevalence, etiology, diagnosis and therapeutic approach of this kind of dental lesions. The results highlights that dentists knowledge and practice are up to date with the most recent diagnosis methods and therapeutic approach.

The use of biomarkers in cardiovascular surgery is an evolving field with promising potential; however, current research remains largely limited, requiring further validation for routine clinical application. This review explores the application of biomarkers in cardiovascular surgery, focusing on heart failure, cardiac ischemia, and organ dysfunction, including renal, cerebral, pulmonary, and splanchnic impairments. Additionally, it examines the significance of biomarkers in assessing the inflammatory state and oxidative stress during the perioperative period, particularly in the context of major surgical trauma and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). From January 2018 to June 2024, we reviewed 133 studies and four systematic reviews and meta-analyses using the Medline, Embase, and Central databases, screening for pre- or postoperative biomarker levels in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Outcomes of interest were postoperative mortality, nonfatal myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure, and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). Studies reporting multivariable-adjusted risk estimates were included. The findings revealed that cardiac troponins (cTns) and creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB) remain the most widely utilized biomarkers for assessing myocardial injury post-surgery. These elevated biomarker levels were consistently associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications, including low cardiac output syndrome, prolonged ventilation, and mortality. Emerging biomarkers, such as heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (h-FABP) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), demonstrated promising early detection and risk stratification results. In particular, h-FABP increased rapidly within one hour of myocardial injury, peaking at 4–6 hours and returning to baseline within 24 hours. This rapid clearance makes h-FABP a valuable tool for early myocardial injury detection, potentially allowing for timely interventions. Inflammatory biomarkers, including hs-CRP and pentraxin 3 (PTX3), were found to be associated with poor outcomes, such as increased morbidity and mortality. Elevated preoperative levels of these markers were indicative of a heightened inflammatory response, correlating with worse postoperative recovery and higher rates of complications. Furthermore, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) emerged as a cost-effective and easily accessible predictor of postoperative outcomes. Elevated NLR values were linked to an increased risk of adverse events, including prolonged ventilation, low cardiac output syndrome, and overall mortality. Further, the practicality of measuring NLR through routine blood tests makes it viable for widespread clinical use. In conclusion, integrating biomarkers in cardiovascular surgery significantly advances predicting postoperative outcomes for cardiac surgery patients. Therefore, it is essential to categorize these biomarkers into two distinct groups in the future, inflammatory and non-inflammatory (related to organ damage), to improve understanding and enhance their clinical applicability. Future research should focus on standardizing the use of these biomarkers and exploring their combined predictive power to enhance risk stratification and improve patient prognosis.

Background: The left ventricular (LV) rotational mechanics are of particular importance in the function of the LV. The rotational movement is the consequence of the arrangement of the subepicardial and subendocardial muscle fibers. These muscle fibers are perpendicular to each other, their contraction creates a characteristic motion. The aim of the present study was to examine the prognostic impact of LV twist assessed by three-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (3D-STE) in healthy circumstances. Methods: 302 healthy adults participated in the study, 181 subjects were excluded due to certain reasons (LV could not be analysed during 3D-STE, subjects were unidentifiable, or lost to follow-up). 121 subjects were involved in the final analysis (mean age of 33.1 ± 12.3 years, 75 males), who were willing to be examined on a voluntary basis. Results: During a mean follow-up of 7.93 ± 4.21 years, 11 healthy adults suffered a cardiovascular event including 2 cardiac deaths. Using receiver operating characteristic analysis, LV twist ≥14.65 degrees as assessed by 3D-STE proved to be significantly predictive regarding the cardiovascular event-free survival (area under the curve 0.70, specificity 70%, sensitivity 65%, p = 0.028). Subjects with LV twist ≥14.65 degrees had higher basal and apical rotations and a significantly higher ratio of these individuals developed cardiovascular events compared to cases with LV twist

Aim of the study This study aims to investigate the efficacy of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) in optimizing wound care across a diverse range of etiologies and localizations. Material and methods A study of 97 patients with various wound etiologies and localizations was conducted. NPWT was meticulously applied according to established protocols, with treatment parameters being methodically documented. Results NPWT exhibited substantial efficacy in promoting wound healing across varied etiologies and localizations. Acute wounds demonstrated reduced dimensions alongside enhanced granulation tissue formation. In parallel, chronic wounds exhibited improved wound bed preparation and diminished bacterial colonization. Conclusions NPWT proves to be a versatile and effective treatment modality for optimizing wound care across different etiologies and localizations. Its ability to improve wound healing outcomes, by enhancing tissue perfusion, reducing edema, and modulating inflammation, positions NPWT as a valuable tool in comprehensive wound management strategies. Its ability to enhance tissue perfusion, mitigate edema, and modulate inflammation underscores its value as a pivotal tool within comprehensive wound management strategies.

Laboratory test results can be challenging to interpret, which is a big problem for the great majority of the population. In the usual laboratory tests, the patient can find abbreviations of tests performed and a lot of medical terms that are hard to understand. The proposed system's objective is to help patients understand laboratory test results and keep track of their health. To achieve this, we developed an application that can scan a laboratory test result using a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network-based Optical Character Recognition tool (OCR) in order to extract the data. The application translates the abbreviations of each test performed and stores the processed data locally. The application also provides explanations for each test's normal range, making it easier for patients to understand their results. Additionally, the application's data visualization feature enables patients to track their progress over time and make informed decisions regarding their health. With the ability to share results with healthcare providers, patients can receive professional medical advice and treatment based on their test results. The application's adaptability is a key strength. It can effectively handle different types of laboratory tests from various medical institutions, regardless of the analysis methods used. This ensures a comprehensive and reliable health-tracking experience for the user.

The process of coronary calcification represents one of the numerous pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the atherosclerosis continuum. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) represents an ideal imaging modality to assess plaque components, especially calcium. Different calcification patterns have been contemporarily described in both early stages and advanced atherosclerosis. Microcalcifications and spotty calcifications correlate positively with macrophage burden and inflammatory markers and are more frequently found in the superficial layers of ruptured plaques in acute coronary syndrome patients. More compact, extensive calcification may reflect a later stage of the disease and was traditionally associated with plaque stability. Nevertheless, a small number of culprit coronary lesions demonstrates the presence of dense calcified plaques. The purpose of the current paper is to review the most recent OCT data on coronary calcification and the interrelation between calcification pattern and plaque vulnerability. How different calcified plaques influence treatment strategies and associated prognostic implications is of great interest.

Background: Gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas are a worldwide and some of the most important causes of death related to cancers. MLH1, PMS2, and K-Ras are some of the main molecules responsible for the control of cellular proliferation. They are widely used as biomarkers for the evaluation of the features of tumoral processes and the clinicopathological characteristics. They depend on the type of cells implied in the tumoral process, and it can be observed in the concentrations of them in different biological fluids. Maspin, also known as peptidase inhibitor 5 or serpin B5 is a tumor suppressor which inhibits invasion and angiogenesis and also regulates apoptosis, but it can also present oncogenic activity depending on tumor location and histology and on the subcellular maspin localization. Its correlations with gastric and colorectal carcinomas have been emphasized in a series of articles, and in this work, a method is used to quantify the concentrations of maspin in three biological fluids, allowing correlations with pathological features. Methods: Patients with their clinical and pathological features were selected from the database of the project GRAPHSENSGASTROINTES and used accordingly with the Ethics committee approval nr. 32647/2018 awarded by the County Emergency Hospital from Targu-Mures. Three kinds of samples have been analyzed (saliva, whole blood, and urine) using a stochastic method using stochastic microsensors. Results: The results obtained using stochastic sensors were correlated with the location of cancer, and there have been elaborated a series of criteria to differentiate gastric cancers from colorectal ones. Conclusions: There can be differentiation between the two types of cancers by using the concentrations of MLH1, PMS2, and K-Ras in saliva and urine samples or the levels of maspin in whole blood and urine or in whole blood, urine, and saliva. The data analysis led to a series of criteria for evaluation of the cancer location. Using only MLH1 and PMS2 concentrations in one of the two kinds of samples was only indicative and did not cover most cases. The use of the criteria only for MLH1 and PMS2 increased the probability of finding out the location, but the best results require the concentrations of K-Ras in the two kinds of samples as additional criteria.

Since the existing information on soils level of fertility in the High Natural Value (HNV) eligible area is scarce, a partnership was concluded between a mixed team of soil scientists and civil society environmentalists within the frame of a research project aiming to: (i) appraise the stakeholders perception and views on the importance of soil conservation and environmental friendly land management, (ii) assess the level of fertility in HNV eligible areas and start building-up the first national HNV soil data base and (iii) identify the most relevant soil indicators for designing an expeditious HNV soil monitoring system. The results revealed the strong agreement of the civil society on the recently issued agricultural policies supporting practices under agri-environment measures and a fair existing level of the soil conservation under HNV practices, as long as land and soil careful administration and resource-efficient management are constantly pursued.

Syringe irrigation is still the most shared clinical procedure for delivering endodontic irrigants. The shape and size of apical preparation should be matched to the individual morphological profile of the root canal to perform adequate cleaning. The irrigant flow beyond the needle tip seems to be influenced by the flow rate rather than the individual intra-barrel pressure developed within syringe. Proper selected size of the irrigation needle adapted to corresponding apical preparation size and the multiple maneuvers of irrigation should result in an expected cleaning efficacy. Irrigant replacement, shear stress and apical pressure are crucial cleaning factors in mutual contradiction. Presently no consensus came out to establish to whom should be forwarded the main concern.

Introduction. Three-dimensional (3D) speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) combines the advantages of STE and volumetric 3D echocardiography, which shows the left ventricle (LV) in 3D during the cardiac cycle and is also suitable for accurate strain measurements in addition to volumetric assessments using the same virtual 3D LV cast. The present study aimed to confirm the prognostic impact of 3DSTE-derived LV global longitudinal strain (GLS) in healthy adults during a 12-year follow-up period. Patients and methods. The current study comprised 124 healthy individuals with a mean age of 31.0 ± 11.7 years (64 males) at the time of complete two-dimensional Doppler echocardiography (2DE) and 3DSTE. Results. During a mean follow-up of 8.01 ± 4.12 years, 10 healthy individuals suffered cardiovascular events, including 2 cardiac deaths. Using ROC analysis, 3DSTE-derived LV-GLS ≥ 14.77% was found to be a significant predictor for cardiovascular event-free survival (sensitivity 70%, specificity 71%, area under the curve 76%, p = 0.007). Using 2DE, higher LV end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes, a larger LV end-systolic diameter and a lower LV ejection fraction could be detected in subjects with LV-GLS < 14.77% as compared to cases with LV-GLS ≥ 14.77%. Subjects with events had thicker interventricular septa, a larger LV mass and lower 3DSTE-derived LV-GLS and a higher ratio of cases had LV-GLS < 14.77%. From subjects with LV-GLS < 14.77%, seven individuals (18%) had events. Multivariate regression analysis identified age and LV-GLS as independent predictors of event-free survival. Conclusions. 3DSTE-derived LV-GLS is a strong independent predictor of cardiovascular survival in healthy adults.

Background and Study Aim. The scientific research activity at the level of academic studies aims to acquire fundamental basic and deontological knowledge. The purpose of the study was to determine the progress of the scientific research approach in the field of Physical Education and Sport Science. Material and Methods. This scientific approach was carried out in the ”Research methodology” discipline, in the bachelor’s degree for the Physical Education and Sport (PES) specialization, Sport and Motor Performance (SMP) and in the master’s degree - Sport Performance (SP). The research participants were 104 students of the Physical Education and Sport department of the University of Pitești: 82 in bachelor’s degree (48 at PES, 34 at SMP) and 22 in master’s degree (PS). The didactic activity was conducted offline and online; the monitoring was performed by means of the university e-learning platform. The research results were centralized using digital technologies. The continuous evaluation of the performance criteria was made in accordance with the requirements of the subject matter program and the instructions on the credit system and class book filling. The requirements of the activity in seminar were 3 reports, respecting the path of the work assignments. Report no. 1 – method of bibliographic study (Google academic); Report no. 2 –sociological survey (survey method, questionnaire, Google forms) and Report no. 3 –experimental research (personal contributions, scientific argumentation). Results. The results of knowledge evaluation in bachelor’s degree reveal 3.3% better level at PES; the other indicators have a better level of success in SMP (p>0.05); the master’s degree highlights 15.25% better activity in the seminar, involvement of 82.3% in the elective and mandatory activity and 87.75% success in the final evaluation. Regarding the weight of sports disciplines in achievement of the scientific approach: 65% improved the title of the assignments (an evolution of the titles) and 35% kept the same title, but with different content. At the master’s degree, everyone respected the requirements of the discipline. Conclusions. The scientific research approach was carried out by methodologically going through the stages of addressing the work assignments within the bibliographic study, sociological survey analysis and scientific argumentation. The theoretical knowledge was applied in accordance with the current specialized literature, the analysis of the opinions of the specialists and the use of the personal experience in the applied and development scientific research.

The modern dental caries adhesive direct restoration requires a working protocol that includes stages and techniques that must be strictly followed to ensure the correct morphological and functional reconstruction, as well as an increased longevity of the restoration and implicitly of the respective tooth in the oral cavity. Failures in achieving these goals are represented by the occurrence of recurrent caries, secondary or residual caries, coronary fractures, leading to pulpal and periodontal complications. They can be due to both incorrect therapeutic maneuvers and other causes, for which the dentist is not responsible, such as manufacturing defects of dental materials that are not visible during inspection or the patient's attitude towards oral hygiene.

Abstract Percutaneous and surgical therapies for septal reduction for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have been going head‐to‐head for the past 20 years with similar outcomes and mortality rates, although contemporary myectomy seems to materialize its superiority. However, on closer analysis, the external validity of studies advocating myectomy does not translate to all centres. The aim of this review was to examine the most recent data on septal reduction therapy and to attempt to phenotype the appropriate patient for each of the two treatments. The key to similar low mortality rates between ventricular septal myectomy and alcohol septal ablation appears to be proper patient selection performed in high volume clinical environments. Furthermore, we analyse the role of mavacampten (the recently approved cardiac myosin inhibitor) in replacing or complementing the two septal reduction therapies.

A flare-up is defined as a pain and/or swelling of the soft tissues that occurs within a few hous or a few days following the root canal treatment. In some cases, the flare-ups can apear after the finishing of the root canal treatment, due to the penetration or development of the microorganisms into the root canal. The pain felt by the patient depends on the extent of the periradicular tissue injury, its severity and intensity of the inflammatory imune response. The article discusses the microbial irritation of apical periodontal tissue caused by insufficient instrumentation and filling of the root canals, factors that lead to failure of the outcome of root canals treatment.

Though important in current endodontic practice the issue of root canal isthmuses is usually overlooked due to the inefficient means of imagistic identification in clinical setting and appropriate treatment approach. Canal isthmuses are still the dark face of the endodontic system regarding the efficacy of conventional orthograde treatment of the root canals especially in the roots having two or more main canal where these anatomies are chiefly located. Advances in CBCT equipments with small field of image capture (FOV) open a window to an improved treatment outcome.

The doctors’ constant motivation to give these fragile beings a chance at life with optimal visual acuity has never stopped, since Terry first described this condition. Thus, throughout time, several specific advancements have been made in the management of ROP. Apart from the most known risk factors, this narrative review brings to light the latest research about new potential risk factors, such as: proteinuria, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and blood transfusions. Digital imaging has revolutionized the management of retinal pathologies, and it is more and more used in identifying and staging ROP, particularly in the disadvantaged regions by the means of telescreening. Moreover, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and automated diagnostic tools based on deep learning offer new perspectives on the ROP diagnosis. The new therapeutical trend based on the use of anti-VEGF agents is increasingly used in the treatment of ROP patients, and recent research sustains the theory according to which these agents do not interfere with the neurodevelopment of premature babies.Keywords: retinopathy of prematurity, risk factors, optical coherence tomography, telescreening, artificial intelligence, anti-VEGF

The investigation of extreme weather and climate events has gained momentum in the last few decades, spurred in part by political involvement. However, not enough attention has been paid to the historical recorded data of climate monitoring. An accurate estimate of maximum soil frost depth is an important factor in determining construction costs and structures’ foundations, and designers also need reliable information about local meteorological parameters. In this study, the calculations of the parameters for the city of Arad are presented as an example. An updated Romanian frost depth map and a new Romanian freeze–thaw cycle (FTC) map are needed since recent climate studies have documented an increase in global and regional surface temperatures, with the greatest shift in warming occurring over the last three decades. This trend is particularly pronounced when comparing the 1990–2020 period with earlier periods, which could be indicative of broader climate change trends. It is important to note that these conclusions are based solely on the provided statistical parameters and do not take into account other potential factors influencing temperature trends in the region. The results from this investigation could be used to achieve a reduction in frost disasters and the formulation of policies and measures for the adaptation of geotechnical/structural design for Romanian territory. They may also support the development of maps that help to visualize and understand the evolving climate patterns in the region, including changes in frost depth and the frequency of freeze–thaw cycles, which are important for various sectors such as agriculture, construction, and infrastructural planning. Given the documented increase in global and regional surface temperatures, updating such maps will also provide valuable information for policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders on how to adapt to ongoing climate change and its impacts on the Romanian region.

This study is focused on the evaluation of vertical elastic acceleration response spectra for Vrancea intermediate-depth earthquakes in Romania in the context of the ongoing update of the national seismic design code. The ground motion database employed in this research consists of about 500 ground motions recorded during moderate and large Vrancea intermediate-depth earthquakes with moment magnitudes MW ≥ 5.2. The analysis of the dataset showed that a single ground motion recording had a peak ground acceleration larger than 0.20 g. The results of the analyses showed that no significant differences between the control periods of the vertical elastic response spectra as a function of the site class could be inferred. It was also observed that the mean value of the amplification factor computed for the entire ground motion database was about 2.5, irrespective of the earthquake magnitude, site class, or level of horizontal peak ground acceleration. However, larger-magnitude earthquakes generate larger spectral amplifications in the medium- and long-period ranges. The analysis of the ground motions recorded in Bucharest area revealed a magnitude dependency of the control period for the vertical ground motion TC,v. Finally, a single spectral shape for vertical acceleration response spectra characterized by a maximum dynamic amplification factor of 2.5 and control periods TBv and TCv of 0.05 s and 0.60 s is proposed for design purposes. This aspect allows for a major update from the current version of the national seismic design code which proposes control periods of the elastic vertical response spectrum dependent on the horizontal ones. The short-period (at T = 0.2 s) and long-period (at T = 1.0 s) ratios of the vertical acceleration response spectrum to the corresponding horizontal ones are 0.50 and 0.40.

Atherosclerosis in a progressive disease that is systemic in nature, and hence the simultaneous presentation of coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral artery disease (PAD) is not uncommon. As clinically manifested PAD is associated with worse cardiovascular outcomes, the timely identification of subclinical atherosclerosis seems of utmost importance. Ultrasonography (US) is an ideal imaging modality for assessing PAD that is easy to use, accurate, widely available and avoids unnecessary exposure to radiation. Several US parameters have been proposed in the assessment of PAD, with varying prognostic usefulness, depending on disease location. The aim of this review is to summarize the most important evidence available on the association between US-detected atherosclerosis in different vascular sites and the presence and severity of CAD, as well as the impact of the early detection of PAD on the outcomes of patients presenting with CAD.

Objective: This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of patient preferences and clinical outcomes associated with two prominent surgical techniques for treating Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI): the modified laparoscopic Burch colposuspension and the transobturator tape (TOT) procedure. Material and Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 145 patients who recieved surgical treatment for SUI, of which 71 patients (49%) underwent the modified laparoscopic Burch procedure, while 74 patients (51%) received the TOT procedure. Data on clinical characteristics, treatment success rates, and postoperative outcomes were collected and analyzed to understand patient preferences and real-world clinical effectiveness. Results: This study revealed notable differences in patient demographics and clinical characteristics between the two groups. At the 2-year follow-up, a success rate of 100% was reported in the modified laparoscopic Burch group and 86.48% in the TOT group. A total of 99 patients (68.28%) were considered cured postoperatively, with 47 (66.20%) in the modified laparoscopic Burch group and 52 (70.27%) in the TOT group (p = 0.598). A significant difference was found in the incidence of dyspareunia, with six cases (8.10%) reported in the TOT group, compared to none reported in the modified laparoscopic Burch group (p = 0.028). The median operation time was significantly shorter in the TOT group, namely 15 min, compared to the modified laparoscopic Burch group, which had a median equal to 27 min (p < 0.001). Despite these differences, patient preference for either surgical technique was observed, along with similar success rates and varied postoperative outcomes. Conclusions: The findings provide a comprehensive overview of patient preferences and factual clinical outcomes for the two surgical techniques in SUI treatment. This study contributes to understanding the factors influencing patient choice and offers valuable insights into the real-world application of these techniques, enhancing patient-centered care in SUI management.

Abstract Two stochastic microdisks were designed and validated for the DNA mismatch repair assessment in gastric and colon cancers, through determining simultaneously the concentrations of MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and of KRAS in whole blood, urine, saliva, and tumoral tissues. The active surface of the stochastic microdisks was composed of a thin layer of graphene paste decorated with nitrogen, boron, and sulfur and modified with inutec (SP) and with frutafit (FT), respectively. High sensitivities were recorded when the SP was used as modifier. All limits of determination were of fg mL−1 magnitude order. The paired student‐t‐test done at 99.00 % confidence level revealed that there are no significative differences between the results obtained using the two stochastic microdisks. Validation of the screening tests of whole blood, urine, saliva, and tumoral tissues was also done using the recovery tests when % recovery was higher than 87.00 %, with %RSD values lower than 1.00 %.

IntroductionThe tricuspid valve and its annulus (TA) and the right atrium (RA) play a significant role in regulating blood flow in the right heart. However, their effect on each other is not fully understood even in normal circumstances. Three-dimensional (3D) speckle-tracking echocardiography (3DSTE) is able to simultaneously assess TA and RA at the same time in a non-invasive way. The present study aimed to examine associations between tricuspid annular (TA) dimensions and right atrial (RA) volumes in healthy adults by 3DSTE.MethodsThe present study comprised 144 healthy subjects (mean age: 34.4 ± 12.6 years, 72 males), who participated in this study on a voluntary basis for screening between 2011 and 2015. In all subjects, electrocardiography, two-dimensional Doppler echocardiography and 3DSTE have been performed.ResultsWith increasing end-systolic maximum RA volume, all end-systolic and end-diastolic TA dimensions showed simultaneous increase, but in various degrees resulting in (non-significant) reduction of TA functional properties. Similarly, with increasing diastolic pre-atrial contraction and minimum RA volumes, TA dimensions increased simultaneously (except end-diastolic TA diameter), but in various degrees resulting in reduced TA fractional shortening and fractional area change. With increasing RA dimensions, end-systolic and end-diastolic TA dimensions showed simultaneous increase, but in different, sometimes not significant degrees. While RA stroke volumes showed increasing pattern with TA dilation, RA emptying fractions have not changed substantially.Conclusions3DSTE is suitable for non-invasive assessment of TA dimensions and RA volumes at the same time using the same 3D echocardiographic dataset. Significant associations between TA size and RA volumes exist in healthy circumstances. Strong associations in case of dilation of TA in the presence of higher RA volumes could partly explain functional tricuspid regurgitation later developing in subjects in sinus rhythm.

As groundwater is used as a source of drinking water, monitoring its quality is essential due to possible adverse effects on human health. Nitrogen compounds (nitrates, nitrites, ammonia) within certain concentration limits are natural components of the nitrogen cycle. Due to anthropogenic activities, high concentrations of nitrogen compounds are released into groundwater. The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemistry of groundwater in a suburban area in northeastern Romania, the sources of pollution with nitrogen compounds (nitrates, nitrites, ammonium), and the non-carcinogenic risk to human health associated with consumption in different groups age (women, men, and children) in the investigated region. The results showed that the concentration of nitrogen compounds varies from 5.12 to 98.3 mg/L for nitrates, from 0.008 to 85.2 mg/L for ammonium, and from 0.001 to 1.12 mg/L for nitrites. The maximum admissible concentrations have been exceeding 25%, 40% and respectively 10% of the total analyzed samples Bivariate graphs and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) were used to identify potential sources of nitrate, nitrites, and ammonium pollution of groundwater in the study area. The non-carcinogenic risk assessment for water consumption showed a hazard index (HItotal) for nitrogen compounds in groundwater in the investigated region, which ranged from 0.037 to 2.856 for men, between 0.054 and 3.427 for women, respectively between 0.080 and 6.145, for children. Spatial distribution maps using the Inverse Distance Weighting technique presented the geographical areas with the probability of groundwater contamination with nitrate, nitrite, and ammonium and the areas that pose a risk to human health by consuming groundwater in the study area for the three groups: men, women and children.

Actualitatea științifică a articolului constă în evidențierea aspectelor pozitive ale practicii europene și modalitățile de implementare a unor reforme pentru sistemele actuale ale Republicii Moldova. Pornind de la specificul instituțiilor financiare precum şi asupra activităților acestora, se propune implementarea unor procese simplificate şi mai efective, după practica internaţională, care ar spori şansele ca o bancă să revină la activitatea obişnuită, sau în cazurile agravate să fie reduse consecinţele negative nu doar asupra companiei juridice cât şi a minimiza cheltuielile bugetare. Autorul evaluează starea actuală şi dezvoltarea pieţei bancare şi ajustarea legislației în vigoare la standarde şi proceduri mai efective. Rezultatul lucrării constă, în opinia autorului, în conturarea căilor de utilizare eficientă a resurselor în scopul soluționării cât mai rapide a litigiilor apărute într-un proces de lichidare a unei bănci şi crearea unui cadru legal care ar proteja instituția financiara, clienţii cât şi contribuabilii unui stat. Articolul prezintă și o analiză complexă a procedurilor aplicate atât pe teritoriul Republicii Moldova, cât şi în practica internaţională asupra băncilor aflate în stare de insolvenţă, factorii de risc pentru o activităţile unei bănci, metodele si tehnicile propuse pentru optimizarea procesului de intervenţie a statului pentru ameliorarea stării unei bănci în contextul politicilor interne dar şi a procesului de globalizare.
