The role of social support in gender-based violence in adult women by heterosexual partners has not been sufficiently studied in Colombia. This correlational study with a gender perspective aims to identify the most relevant female sociodemographic variables and the probability of requesting social support for this violence. The sample consisted of 6,279 adult women (aged 25-49 years) who responded to the last health macro-survey of the city of Bogotá (2011), which includes the CTS-2 scale to measure domestic violence. The nonparametric analysis technique called classification tree was used. The variables that best explained the search for social support were cohabitation with the aggressor and maternity status. Other influential variables were cohabitation with the extended family and the number of children, depending on whether the victim was married or in civil union agreement. The results indicated the prevalence of the patriarchal family and gender roles in the context studied. Even among adults with higher levels of education, they underscore the importance of taking into account sociodemographic and family factors to design strategies for addressing and providing social support to women victims of gender-based violence.
