ABSTRACT Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection has been considered one of the leading causes of acute hepatitis. The aim of the present study was to estimate the prevalence of HAV among children and adolescents in a population-based study in the capitals of the States of the North, Southeast and South of Brazil and identify predictive factors for the infection. A multi-stage sampling was used to select subjects aged between 5-9 and 10-19 years. Individual and household levels aside from the level of variables in the areas were collected. The outcome was the total IgG antibodies to HAV levels detected using a commercial Enzyme Immuno Assay (EIA). The associations between HAV and the independent variables were assessed using the odds ratio. A multilevel analysis was performed by GLLAMM using the Stata software. The prevalence of HAV infection in the 5-9 and 10-19 age groups was 28.7% and 67.5%, respectively for the North, 20.6% and 37.7%, for the Southeast and 18.9% and 34.5% for the South Region. The prevalence of HAV increased according to age in all sites. Variables related to education at the individual level (North and South), family and area level (South and Southeast) and family income level (Southeast and South) were independently associated with HAV infection. This emphasizes the need for individualized strategies to prevent the infection.

Statistics - Computation - Abstract
Bootstrap is a widely used technique that allows estimating the properties of a given estimator, such as its bias and standard error. In this paper, we evaluate and compare five bootstrap-based methods for making confidence intervals: two of them (Normal and Studentized) based on the bootstrap estimate of the standard error; another two (Quantile and Better) based on the estimated distribution of the parameter estimator; and finally, considering an interval constructed based on Bayesian bootstrap, relying on the notion of credible interval. The methods are compared through Monte Carlo simulations in different scenarios, including samples with autocorrelation induced by a copula model. The results are also compared with respect to the coverage rate, the median interval length and a novel indicator, proposed in this paper, combining both of them. The results show that the Studentized method has the best coverage rate, although the smallest intervals are attained by the Bayesian method. In general, all methods are appropriate and demonstrated good performance even in the scenarios violating the independence assumption.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
This work proposes a wavelet shrinkage rule under asymmetric LINEX loss function and a mixture of a point mass function at zero and the logistic distribution as prior distribution to the wavelet coefficients in a nonparametric regression model with gaussian error. Underestimation of a significant wavelet coefficient can lead to a bad detection of features of the unknown function such as peaks, discontinuities and oscillations. It can also occur under asymmetrically distributed wavelet coefficients. Thus the proposed rule is suitable when overestimation and underestimation have asymmetric losses. Statistical properties of the rule such as squared bias, variance, frequentist and bayesian risks are obtained. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the rule against standard methods and an application in a real dataset involving infrared spectra is provided.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
The present work describes simulation studies to compare the performances of bayesian wavelet shrinkage methods in estimating component curves from aggregated functional data. To do so, five methods were considered: the bayesian shrinkage rule under logistic prior by Sousa (2020), bayesian shrinkage rule under beta prior by Sousa et al. (2020), Large Posterior Mode method by Cutillo et al. (2008), Amplitude-scale invariant Bayes Estimator by Figueiredo and Nowak (2001) and Bayesian Adaptive Multiresolution Smoother by Vidakovic and Ruggeri (2001). Further, the so called Donoho-Johnstone test functions, Logit and SpaHet functions were considered as component functions. It was observed that the signal to noise ratio of the data had impact on the performances of the methods., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2205.15969

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
In this paper we consider aggregated functional data composed by a linear combination of component curves and the problem of estimating these component curves. We propose the application of a bayesian wavelet shrinkage rule based on a mixture of a point mass function at zero and the logistic distribution as prior to wavelet coefficients to estimate mean curves of components. This procedure has the advantage of estimating component functions with important local characteristics such as discontinuities, spikes and oscillations for example, due the features of wavelet basis expansion of functions. Simulation studies were done to evaluate the performance of the proposed method and its results are compared with a spline-based method. An application on the so called tecator dataset is also provided.

Kappaphycus alvarezii is a red seaweed used globally in various biotechnological processes. To ensure the content and stability of its bioactive compounds postharvest, suitable drying protocols must be adopted to provide high-quality raw materials for industrial use. This study aimed to analyze the influence of freeze-drying and oven-drying on the total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), antioxidant activity (FRAP and DPPH assays), total carotenoid content (TC), and lipase (LA) and protease activity (PA) of K. alvarezii samples collected over the seasons in sea farms in southern Brazil. The freeze-drying technique was found to be more effective regarding superior contents of TPC (39.23 to 127.74 mg GAE/100 g) and TC (10.27 to 75.33 μg/g), as well as DPPH (6.12 to 8.91 mg/100 g). In turn, oven-drying proved to be the best method regarding the TFC (4.99 to 12.29 mg QE/100 g) and PA (119.50 to 1485.09 U/g), with better performance in the FRAP (0.28 to 0.70 mmol/100 g). In this way, it appears that the drying process of the algal biomass can be selected depending on the required traits of the biomass for the intended industrial application. In terms of cost-effectiveness, drying the biomass using oven-drying can be considered appropriate.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
Wavelet shrinkage estimators are widely applied in several fields of science for denoising data in wavelet domain by reducing the magnitudes of empirical coefficients. In nonparametric regression problem, most of the shrinkage rules are derived from models composed by an unknown function with additive gaussian noise. Although gaussian noise assumption is reasonable in several real data analysis, mainly for large sample sizes, it is not general. Contaminated data with positive noise can occur in practice and nonparametric regression models with positive noise bring challenges in wavelet shrinkage point of view. This work develops bayesian shrinkage rules to estimate wavelet coefficients from a nonparametric regression framework with additive and strictly positive noise under exponential and lognormal distributions. Computational aspects are discussed and simulation studies to analyse the performances of the proposed shrinkage rules and compare them with standard techniques are done. An application in winning times Boston Marathon dataset is also provided.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
The present paper proposes a bayesian approach for wavelet shrinkage with the use of a shrinkage prior based on the generalized secant hyperbolic distribution symmetric around zero in a nonparemetric regression problem. This shrinkage prior allows the control of the kurtosis of the coefficients, which impacts on the level of shrinkage on its extreme values. Statistical properties such as bias, variance, classical and bayesian risks of the rule are analyzed and performances of the proposed rule are obtained in simulations studies involving the Donoho-Johnstone test functions. Application of the proposed shrinker in denoising Brazilian stock market dataset is also provided.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
In bayesian wavelet shrinkage, the already proposed priors to wavelet coefficients are assumed to be symmetric around zero. Although this assumption is reasonable in many applications, it is not general. The present paper proposes the use of an asymmetric shrinkage rule based on the discrete mixture of a point mass function at zero and an asymmetric beta distribution as prior to the wavelet coefficients in a non-parametric regression model. Statistical properties such as bias, variance, classical and bayesian risks of the associated asymmetric rule are provided and performances of the proposed rule are obtained in simulation studies involving artificial asymmetric distributed coefficients and the Donoho-Johnstone test functions. Application in a seismic real dataset is also analyzed.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
In wavelet shrinkage and thresholding, most of the standard techniques do not consider information that wavelet coefficients might be bounded, although information about bounded energy in signals can be readily available. To address this, we present a Bayesian approach for shrinkage of bounded wavelet coefficients in the context of non-parametric regression. We propose the use of a zero-contaminated beta distribution with a support symmetric around zero as the prior distribution for the location parameter in the wavelet domain in models with additive gaussian errors. The hyperparameters of the proposed model are closely related to the shrinkage level, which facilitates their elicitation and interpretation. For signals with a low signal-to-noise ratio, the associated Bayesian shrinkage rules provide significant improvement in performance in simulation studies when compared with standard techniques.

Objective: Entrepreneurs are responsible for innovation, but they do not act in the vacuum, the greater the support for their action, the improve the chances of success. Startups - technology-based companies with high potential for growth and impact - are associated with the existence of entrepreneurial ecosystems that facilitate entrepreneurial action. This paper goal is to provide evidence that help to explain why startups fail in an emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem. Method: We perform exploratory research in which entrepreneurs whose startups failed in the emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem of Porto Alegre, Brazil, were interviewed. We complement the analysis with the collection of secondary data. Results: Building on Isenberg’s (2011) six domains, we generate ideas on how each of them in emergent entrepreneurial ecosystem may influence startup mortality. Our results indicate that emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem could be much better in avoiding the premature failure of startups. Policy and Finance are the most problematic domains, while culture, support, and markets are the three middle-ground dimensions. These last three need improvement, but they are not as critical as the first two. Contributions: This paper contributes to the entrepreneurial ecosystems literature by exploring how emergent ecosystems contribute for discontinuity of promising startups. Originality: Besides entrepreneurial mistakes, problems that are out of the entrepreneur control can also cause a venture's death (Cardon et al., 2011). Building on this, we use Isenberg's (2010; 2011) model for understanding the influence of the entrepreneurial ecosystem on the circumstances that entrepreneurs faced that determined their startup failure (Jenkins & McKelvie, 2016). Social Contributions: by better understanding why startups fail in emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems, we support policymakers in their focus on possible improvements of the features that seem most relevant to entrepreneurs. The public agents can then work to provide a better environment for future entrepreneurial endeavors.

ABSTRACT: Carbon capture technologies will play an essential role in reaching a zero-carbon economy by 2050, and the industrial sector is one of the main areas in which these technologies may be deployed. This work aims to identify and analyze the main industrial sectors that have the potential to deploy carbon capture globally. The initial methodology procedure of this paper is organized into three steps: (i) A systematic literature review is conducted using the Scopus database; (ii) followed by a bibliometric study and; (iii) quantification of the potential of carbon capture in all countries. The processed review data showed that iron and steel production is the industrial sector with the highest number of papers (13 papers), followed by cement manufacturing (8 papers). Besides that, the efficiency and type of carbon capture technology deployed were also evaluated. The data found varied by industry sector, with ethanolamine (MEA) or metil diethanolamine (MDEA) post-combustion and chemical looping technology being frequently cited. As the main results, the number of citations indicates that iron and steel production, followed by cement manufacturing, is the most advanced industrial sector in terms of scientific research on deploying carbon capture technologies. In addition, the countries that demonstrated the greatest potential for carbon capture are China (5,700 mtCO2/y) and the United States (2,100 mtCO2/y), followed by India (1,300 mtCO2/y), Russia (807mtCO2/y), Japan (564 mtCO2/y), and South Korea (403 mtCO2/y).

Context: Using forage grass species with complementary growth and resource-use strategies to enhance forage plant diversity in pastures may be an alternative to traditional monocultures in tropical regions. Aims: This study aimed to determine whether a mixture of three perennial tropical forage grasses (Andropogon gayanus cv. Planaltina, Panicum maximum cv. Massai, and Brachiaria brizantha cv. BRS Piatã) could be an alternative to enhance herbage intake rates relative to their respective monocultures. Methods: The treatments corresponded to three perennial tropical forage grasses cultivated as monocultures and as a mixture composed of all three species. Defoliation management corresponded to a pre-cutting height of 35 cm and post-cutting height of 17.5 cm. Key results: The botanical composition of the mixture was dynamic throughout the experimental period, with variations in the proportion of species across seasons. The upper half of the canopy predominantly comprised leaves for all treatments. The canopy structure of the mixture allowed for greater herbage intake rates than monocultures during winter/early spring. Andropogon gambagrass showed lower herbage intake rates than the other treatments. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that it is possible to combine tropical forage grass species without compromising canopy structure and grazing animal responses, compared with single-species grass pastures. Implications: The selection of forage species for mixed pastures should consider their phenological cycle, growth, and resource-use strategies to achieve temporal complementarity and provide an optimal grazing environment for animals throughout the year. Increasing pasture biodiversity using forage grass species with complementary traits may be an alternative to traditional monocultures in tropical regions. This study investigated the relationship between pasture characteristics and herbage intake, indicating that combining tropical forage grass species is possible without compromising pasture dynamics and grazing animal responses. By optimizing forage diversity, we highlight the importance of species selection and seasonal complementarity for maintaining pasture structure and providing an optimal grazing environment for animals throughout the year. Purpose – Innovation ecosystems can emerge and grow organically, but the process can also be managed through conscious intervention. Therefore, this study observes different motivations and expectations for each group of actors. The lack of alignment between actors could have a negative influence on the development of innovation ecosystems. This study aims to analyze the coordination strategies of the actors throughout the life cycle of innovation ecosystems. Design/methodology/approach – This study develops and proposes a model for coordinating innovation ecosystems based on the theoretical backgrounds of the ecosystem life cycle and ecosystem coordination. Findings – This study argues that each stage of an innovation ecosystem’s life cycle – inception, launching, growth and maturity – demands different coordination strategies. Initially, networks are simpler and thus the coordination issues are less difficult. However, as the ecosystem evolves and the complexity of the networks increases, a more sophisticated strategy, such as orchestration or choreography, is needed. Research limitations/implications – This is a theoretical study that recommends further research to test this model. Practical implications – The understanding of coordination and stages of the life cycle of an innovation ecosystem can guide actors in the design of strategies for developing of ecosystems. Social implications – The proposed framework could support strategies to engage civil society in actions to develop innovation ecosystems. Originality/value – This study presents a framework to understand the coordination strategies better, considering the stages of an innovation ecosystem’s life cycle.

Abstract Background: Psoriasis is associated with atherosclerosis and increased cardiovascular risk. Currently, an automated ultrasound, called quantitative intima media thickness, has proven to be a useful method to evaluate subclinical atherosclerosis. Objectives: To compare increased cardiovascular risk in psoriasis patients receiving two types of treatments: Methotrexate and tumor necrosis factor inhibitor and to evaluate the correlation between the Framingham score and quantitative intima media thickness. Methods: Fifty patients with plaque psoriasis were selected from June 2017 to July 2018, divided into two groups, receiving methotrexate and tumor necrosis factor inhibitor. Measurement of abdominal circumference, blood pressure, body mass index and presence of metabolic syndrome were performed. Afterwards, the patients were evaluated for increased cardiovascular risk with the Framingham score and for the quantitative intima media thickness of the carotid arteries. Results: The mean age was 54.8 (±12.5) with a slight male predominance (58%). Overall, 84% of the patients had elevated waist circumference, 82% had a body mass index above ideal, and 50% had a metabolic syndrome. For the correlation between quantitative intima media thickness and Framingham Score, Pearson's linear correlation coefficient was 0.617 (p < 0.001), indicating a moderate to strong positive association. Study limitations: The protective effect of the therapies cited in relation to the increased cardiovascular risk was not evaluated. Conclusions: A moderate to strong positive association was found correlating the Framingham Score values with the quantitative intima media thickness measurement and it is not possible to state which drug has the highest increased cardiovascular risk.

Along with the wide dissemination of geographic information through online Geographic Information Systems (GIS), it is possible to do several spatial analyzes in a quick and interactive way. Although this possibility appears fundamental for the improvement of geography teaching, these platforms have still been little explored in the classroom. In this paper, we present the LAPIG Maps platform as a tool for the development of interactive activities for the teaching of Geography. We discuss its potential as an important auxiliary tool in the theoretical-practical development of the contents, associated with the geographic categories of analysis

General Medicine - Abstract
The drainage system of a hydrographic basin is formed by integrated functional systems, which provide ideal conditions for studies aimed at conserving and preserving ecosystems. Given the need to protect remnants of native vegetation in the Atlantic Forest, this study identified the terrain systems of Una River Basin (BHRU), Bahia, through the technical application of terrain assessment and multi-criteria methodological approach. In addition, the identified systems were evaluated for their levels of potential and emerging frailty. The results showed that the BHRU is subdivided into 8 (eight) terrain systems. Considering the relationship between the natural dynamics of the environment and the pressures exerted by anthropogenic activities, it was found that alluvial and coastal systems have areas with high degree of emerging fragility (8.20% of the BHRU). This high degree of emerging fragility is due to its natural characteristics, allied to the increase of anthropized environments that contrast the Buerarema and pre-coast systems, which have more excellent environmental protection due to extensive vegetation cover on their slopes. The study's methodology was shown to be adequate for the identification and characterization of terrain systems in the BHRU and can be replicated in other ecoregions in the country.

Spatial analysis of traffic accidents is fundamental to comprehend and recognize critical points of road sections and hence establish strategies to reduce these occurrences. This study aims to conduct the spatial analysis of the traffic accidents in 2016 at federal highway sections of the state of Goiás, Brazil. The geocoding was performed in a Geographic Information System (GIS) and mapping of the accident data was provided by NURAM/PRF/GO. Kernel’s density estimation method was applied to analyze the spatial variability and was correlated with data of: fleet, number of cars and engine rate. The results revealed that BR-060, specifically between Goiânia and Distrito Federal, and BR-153, which are the areas that not only present the highest density of traffic accidents, but also a high density of the most severe accidents, with cases of death. Despite being under concession and having the best conditions of traffic and inspection by mobile and fixed equipment, these road sections are configured as critical points. Finally, there was no evidence that the fleet, the number of light vehicles or the motorization rate explain the occurrences of accidents in the federal highways of Goiás, in the year analyzed.

In forest plantations, the productive potential of a given site results from the interaction between genetic materials and environmental conditions. Both are fundamental factors for wood quality and Mean Annual Increment. Knowing the performance of different Eucalyptus urophylla commercial clones under different soil conditions is important for forest planning. Our objective is to evaluate the infuence of soil types on Wood Basic Density and Mean Annual Increment - MAI in two E. urophylla clones. We analyzed the Wood Basic Density of 3- to 8-year-old trees and MAI from two clones grown in four soil types in 14 localities of São Paulo state. ANOVA and Tukey test at 5% probability were performed to test the effect of soil type on Wood Basic Density and MAI. Linear and exponential regression equations were performed between Wood Basic Density x MAI and between MAI x Clay Content, respectively. In general, some soils showed signifcant differences in Wood Basic Density, possibly from climatic variation among sites. Also, the MAI increased exponentially with increase of Soil Clay Content (up to about 25 to 35% of clay), but no correlation was observed between MAI and Wood Density.

Under the hypothesis that modifying nitrogen sources and doses could increase nitrogen fertilization efficiency and productivity and improve forage quality, this study aimed to evaluate the morphological composition, structural characteristics and chemical composition of Panicum maximum cv. Massai forage cultivated under different urea sources (common and coated with Policote®) and nitrogen doses (200, 400 and 600 kg ha-1 year-1) during the autumn, winter and spring of 2014 and the summer and autumn of 2015. The experiment was carried out in Seropédica, RJ, under a randomized complete block design in a factorial arrangement (3x2) + 1 with four replications. High nitrogen rates promoted higher percentages of leaf blade dry mass and lower percentages of dead material dry mass in the forage mass and provided higher tiller population density and forage accumulation rate of Massai grass during the studied seasons. The use of coated urea promoted higher levels of crude protein in the forage than did the use of common urea in all seasons. The intensification of nitrogen fertilization reduced the nitrogen use efficiency but benefitted the structural characteristics, forage accumulation and chemical composition of Massai grass forage. The use of coated urea promoted greater of nitrogen use efficiency during all seasons of the year.
