This book presents a collection of meta-studies, reviews, and scientometric analyses that together reveal a fresh picture about the past, present, and future of computing education research (CER) as a field of science. The book begins with three chapters that discuss and summarise meta-research about the foundations of CER, its disciplinary identity, and use of research methodologies and theories. Based on this, the book proceeds with several scientometric analyses, which explore authors and their collaboration networks, dissemination practices, international collaboration, and shifts in research focus over the years. Analyses of dissemination are deepened in two chapters that focus on some of the most influential publication venues of CER. The book also contains a series of country-, or region-level analyses, including chapters that focus on the evolution of CER in the Baltic Region, Finland, Australasia, Israel, and in the UK & Ireland. Two chapters present case studies of influential CER initiatives in Sweden and Namibia. This book also includes chapters that focus on CER conducted at school level, and cover crucially important issues such as technology ethics, algorithmic bias, and their implications for CER.In all, this book contributes to building an understanding of the past, present and future of CER. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Informatics in Schools: Situation, Evolution and Perspectives, ISSEP 2018, held in St. Petersburg, Russia, in October 2018. The 29 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 74 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: role of programming and algorithmics in informatics for pupils of all ages; national concepts of teaching informatics; teacher education in informatics; contests and competitions in informatics; socio-psychological aspects of teaching informatics; and computer tools in teaching and studying informatics.

Model checking is a prominent technique used in the hardware and software industries for automatic verification. While it is very successful in finding subtle bugs in distributed systems, it faces the state explosion problem - the number of reachable states grows exponentially in the number of concurrent components. In this book the authors introduce unfoldings, an approach to model checking which alleviates the state explosion problem by means of concurrency theory. They offer a gentle introduction to the basics of the method, and in particular they detail an unfolding-based algorithm for model checking concurrent systems against properties specified as formulas of linear temporal logic (LTL). Self-contained chapters cover transition systems and their products; unfolding products; search procedures for basic verification problems, such as reachability and livelocks; and model checking LTL. The final chapter summarizes the results of the book, and points the reader to tools and case studies. The book will be of value to researchers and graduate students engaged in automatic verification and concurrency theory.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Computer Aided Veri?cation (CAV 2000) held in Chicago, Illinois, USA during 15-19 July 2000. The CAV conferences are devoted to the advancement of the theory and practice of formal methods for hardware and software veri?cation. The con- rence covers the spectrum from theoretical foundations to concrete applications, with an emphasis on veri?cation algorithms, methods, and tools together with techniques for their implementation. The conference has traditionally drawn contributions from both researchers and practitioners in academia and industry. This year 91 regular research papers were submitted out of which 35 were - cepted, while 14 brief tool papers were submitted, out of which 9 were accepted for presentation. CAV included two invited talks and a panel discussion. CAV also included a tutorial day with two invited tutorials. Many industrial companies have shown a serious interest in CAV, ranging from usingthe presented technologies in their business to developing and m- keting their own formal veri?cation tools. We are very proud of the support we receive from industry. CAV 2000 was sponsored by a number of generous andforward-lookingcompaniesandorganizationsincluding:CadenceDesign- stems, IBM Research, Intel, Lucent Technologies, Mentor Graphics, the Minerva Center for Veri?cation of Reactive Systems, Siemens, and Synopsys. ETAPS 2005 was the eighth instance of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. ETAPS is an annual federated conference that was est- lished in 1998 by combining a number of existing and new conferences. This year it comprised?ve conferences (CC, ESOP, FASE, FOSSACS, TACAS), 17 satellite wo- shops (AVIS, BYTECODE, CEES, CLASE, CMSB, COCV, FAC, FESCA, FINCO, GCW-DSE, GLPL, LDTA, QAPL, SC, SLAP, TGC, UITP), seven invited lectures (not including those that were speci?c to the satellite events), and several tutorials. We - ceived over 550 submissions to the?ve conferences this year, giving acceptance rates below 30% for each one. Congratulations to all the authors who made it to the?nal program! I hope that most of the other authors still found a way of participating in this exciting event and I hope you will continue submitting. The events that comprise ETAPS address various aspects of the system devel- ment process, including speci?cation, design, implementation, analysis and impro- ment. The languages, methodologies and tools which support these activities are all well within its scope. Di?erent blends of theory and practice are represented, with an inclination towards theory with a practical motivation on the one hand and soundly based practice on the other. Many of the issues involved in software design apply to systems in general, including hardware systems, and the emphasis on software is not intended to be exclusive.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the First International Workshop on Formal Modeling and Analysis of Timed Systems, FORMATS 2003, held in Marseille, France in September 2003. The 19 revised full papers presented together with an invited paper and the abstracts of two invited talks were carefully selected from 36 submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. All current aspects of formal method for modeling and analyzing timed systems are addressed; among the timed systems dealt with are timed automata, timed Petri nets, max-plus algebras, real-time systems, discrete time systems, timed languages, and real-time operating systems.

This book constitutes the joint refereed proceedings of the 17th International Workshop on Computer Science Logic, CSL 2003, held as the 12th Annual Conference of the EACSL and of the 8th Kurt Gödel Colloquium, KGC 2003 in Vienna, Austria, in August 2003. The 30 revised full papers presented together with abstracts of 9 invited presentations were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 112 submissions. All current aspects of computer science logic are addressed ranging from mathematical logic and logical foundations to the application of logics in various computing aspects.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Computer Aided Verification, CAV'99, held in Trento, Italy in July 1999 as part of FLoC'99.The 34 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 107 submissions. This volume contains the proceedings of the Fourth Workshop on Hybrid - stems: Computation and Control (HSCC 2001) held in Rome, Italy on March 28-30, 2001. The Workshop on Hybrid Systems attracts researchers from in- stry and academia interested in modeling, analysis, synthesis, and implemen- tion of dynamic and reactive systems involving both discrete (integer, logical, symbolic) and continuous behaviors. It is a forum for the discussion of the - test developments in all aspects of hybrid systems, including formal models and computational representations, algorithms and heuristics, computational tools, and new challenging applications. The Fourth HSCC International Workshop continues the series of workshops held in Grenoble, France (HART'97), Berkeley, California, USA (HSCC'98), N- megen, The Netherlands (HSCC'99), and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (HSCC 2000). Proceedings of these workshops have been published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series by Springer-Verlag. In line with the beautiful work that led to the design of the palace in which the workshop was held, Palazzo Lancellotti in Rome, resulting from the col- boration of many artists and architects of di erent backgrounds, the challenge faced by the hybrid system community is to harmonize and extract the best from two main research areas: computer science and control theory.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Application and Theory of Petri Nets. The aim of the Petri net conferences is to create a forum for discussing progress in the application and theory of Petri nets. Typically, the conferences have 100{150 participants { one third of these coming from industry while the rest are from universities and research institutions. The conferences always take place in the last week of June. This year the conference was organized jointly with the 2nd International Conference on Application of Concurrency to System Design (ICACSD 2001). The two conferences shared the invited lectures and the social program. The conference and a number of other activities are co-ordinated by a steering committee with the following members: G. Balbo (Italy), J. Billington (Aust- lia), G. De Michelis (Italy), C. Girault (France), K. Jensen (Denmark), S. - magai (Japan), T. Murata (USA), C.A. Petri (Germany; honorary member), W. Reisig (Germany), G. Rozenberg (The Netherlands; chairman), and M. Silva (Spain). Other activities before and during the 2001 conference included tool dem- strations, a meeting on \XML Based Interchange Formats for Petri Nets', - tensive introductory tutorials, two advanced tutorials on \Probabilistic Methods in Concurrency'and \Model Checking', and two workshops on \Synthesis of Concurrent Systems'and \Concurrency in Dependable Computing'. The tu- rial notes and workshop proceedings are not published in these proceedings, but copies are available from the organizers.
