8. The Health Related Quality Of Life among Patients with Medication Overuse Headache: One Year University Headache Center Experience

Abstract

Background: The negative impact of medication overuse headache (MOH) on the quality of life (QoL) of the patient is undoubted. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify clinical and headache related parameters that directly affect HRQoL of MOH patients. Patients and Methods: 183 patients (111 men and 72 women) firstly diagnosed as having MOH and 81 healthy subjects (22 men and 59 women) in control group (CG) were enrloed in this study. The age of the study subjects range from 18 to 71 years. HRQoL was assessed using a Short Form - 36 questionnaire (SF-36), measuring its Physical Composite Score (PCS), Mental Composite Score (MCS) and Total score (TS). Results: All HRQoL domeins (PCS, MCS, TS) were lower in MOH compared to the CG (p 0.05). Conclusions: Screening for depression among MOH patients and its treatment could be useful for improving their HRQoL

13. The first case of combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency-1 due to a GFM1 mutation in the Serbian population: a case report and literature review.

Abstract

Background. Combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency-1 (COXPD1) resulting from a mutation in the G elongation factor mitochondrial 1 (GFM1) gene is an autosomal recessive multisystem disorder arising from a defect in the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation system. Death usually appears in the first weeks or years of lifespan. Case. We report a male patient with ventriculomegaly diagnosed in the 8th month of pregnancy. The delivery was done by caesarean section and respiratory failure occurred immediately after birth. Hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis, elevated gamma-glutamyl transferase and hepatomegaly were confirmed. The brain MRI detected hypoplasia of the cerebellar hemispheres, dilated lateral ventricles, and markedly immature brain parenchyma. Epilepsy had been present since the third month. At 5 months of age, neurological follow-up showed his head circumference to be 37 cm, with plagiocephaly, a low hairline, a short neck, axial hypotonia and he did not adopt any developmental milestones. A genetic mutation, a missense variant in the GFM1 gene, was confirmed: c.748C>T (p.Arg250Trp) was homozygous in the GFM1 gene. Conclusions. To the best of our knowledge, 28 cases of COXPD1 disease caused by mutations in the GFM1 gene have been described in the literature. COXPD1 should be considered due to symptoms and signs which begin during intrauterine life or at birth. Signs of impaired energy metabolism should indicate that the disease is in the group of metabolic encephalopathies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

21. Bewältigungsstrategien hochqualifizierter Flüchtlinge gegen symbolische Exklusion in Österreich am Beispiel syrischer Flüchtlinge

Abstract

Die beträchtlich angestiegene Anzahl der Asylanträge in Österreich als Folge der Fluchtbewegungen aus dem Nahen Osten seit dem Jahr 2015 wirft aktuell die Frage nach Bedingungen der anschließenden Integration der aufgenommenen Flüchtlinge auf. Vom besonderen Belang der vorliegenden Studie war in diesem Sinne eine bestimmte, von sozialer Ausgrenzung und Abwertung der Ausbildung und beruflichen Kompetenzen stark betroffene Gruppe, nämlich hochgebildete Flüchtlinge. Das Ziel war, am Beispiel syrischer Akademiker_innen zu zeigen, wie sie sich in der aufnehmenden Gesellschaft orientieren und zurechtkommen. Darüber hinaus wurde die folgende Forschungsfrage formuliert: „Welche Erfahrungen der Exklusion erleben und welche Strategien zur Lösung von Problemen der Exklusion setzen hochqualifizierte anerkannte Flüchtlinge aus Syrien in Österreich ein?“ Anhand der Analyse der biographischen Interviews konnten die krisenhaften Erfahrungen und die zum Einsatz kommenden Strategien, an einem zentralen Fall rekonstruiert und aufgezeigt werden. Da in der vorliegenden Untersuchung die theoretische Sättigung nicht erreicht wurde, wurden abschließend ebenso die Möglichkeiten der weiterführenden Untersuchung diskutiert.

25. A new neural network approach to density calculation on ceramic materials.

Abstract

The materials' consolidation, especially ceramics, is very important in advanced research development and industrial technologies. Science of sintering with all incoming novelties is the base of all these processes. A very important question in all of this is how to get the more precise structure parameters within the morphology of different ceramic materials. In that sense, the advanced procedure in collecting precise data in submicro-processes is also in direction of advanced miniaturization. Our research, based on different electrophysical parameters, like relative capacitance, breakdown voltage, and tg δ , has been used in neural networks and graph theory successful applications. We extended furthermore our neural network back propagation (BP) on sintering parameters' data. Prognosed mapping we can succeed if we use the coefficients, implemented by the training procedure. In this paper, we continue to apply the novelty from the previous research, where the error is calculated as a difference between the designed and actual network output. So, the weight coefficients contribute in error generation. We used the experimental data of sintered materials' density, measured and calculated in the bulk, and developed possibility to calculate the materials' density inside of consolidated structures. The BP procedure here is like a tool to come down between the layers, with much more precise materials' density, in the points on morphology, which are interesting for different microstructure developments and applications. We practically replaced the errors' network by density values, from ceramic consolidation. Our neural networks' application novelty is successfully applied within the experimental ceramic material density ρ = 5. 4 × 1 0 3 [kg/m3], confirming the direction way to implement this procedure in other density cases. There are many different mathematical tools or tools from the field of artificial intelligence that can be used in such or similar applications. We choose to use artificial neural networks because of their simplicity and their self-improvement process, through BP error control. All of this contributes to the great improvement in the whole research and science of sintering technology, which is important for collecting more efficient and faster results. Abstract

WHEN ONE applies gastric resection or the Dragstedt operation to the surgical treatment of patients with ulcer disease, it must inevitably be concluded that vagotomy has objective advantages over partial gastrectomy. Vagotomy is in harmony with the neurovegetative pathogenesis of ulcer, gives a lower mortality, leaves the anatomic unity of the stomach untouched, and technically is easier to perform. A further important advantage of vagotomy is the decreased postoperative morbidity.Gastric resection, on the other hand, results in a high mortality rate, especially if performed in a surgical department staffed by a large number of surgeons. Thus, Quenu of Paris has reported a mortality of 6.6% in the performance of 500 gastric resections, and Huber of Vienna has encountered a mortality of 7.2% for 2,993 cases. This means that at Quenu's clinic every 15th patient died and at Huber's every 14th patient succumbed after partial gastric resection. If to this
