A extensão universitária é uma importante ferramenta de ensino na área da saúde. O ambiente escolar, por sua vez, é essencial para o desenvolvimento do conhecimento compartilhado e para a integração com a comunidade. Nesse sentido, surgiu no ano de 2015 o Projeto de Extensão Promoção de Saúde nas Escolas, da Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana (UNILA - PR), que através do desenvolvimento de atividades lúdicas nas escolas municipais de Foz do Iguaçu – PR, busca levar promoção de saúde às crianças de 6 a 12 anos de idade. No entanto, o ano de 2020 foi marcado pela pandemia da COVID-19 e pelo distanciamento social, que impactou diretamente a realização de tais atividades. Como consequência, o projeto precisou passar por uma reformulação. Iniciou-se então a elaboração de contos falados que auxiliem os alunos a se tornarem agentes ativos na produção de sua própria saúde. Nesse sentido, apesar das dificuldades impostas pela pandemia, o objetivo inicial do projeto de levar promoção de saúde aos escolares foi alcançado.

La gestión ambiental universitaria es un proceso que comprende un conjunto de elementos para el manejo y solución de los problemas ambientales dentro de la instalación educativa. El objetivo del estudio fue identificar la relación existente entre la gestión ambiental universitaria y la actitud frente al cambio climático en docentes. La investigación se enmarcó dentro del enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo descriptivo correlacional, diseño no experimental de corte trasversal. Se tomó como muestra 58 docentes de las carreras educación integral y educación mención computación, de una universidad pública venezolana, a quienes se les aplicó dos cuestionarios administrados vía online. En los resultados se encontró que existe una moderada y baja gestión ambiental universitaria, asimismo, una moderada y baja actitud frente al cambio climático en los docentes de ambas carreras, siendo la actitud predominante la conductual, seguida de la afectiva y por última la cognitiva. Se identificó la relación de las variables, gestión ambiental universitaria y actitud frente al cambio climático debido a que estadísticamente se encuentran relacionadas. Se concluye que existe la necesidad generar una gestión ambiental universitaria para cambiar actitudes y responder de manera oportuna a los cambios climáticos presentes, generando una nueva cultura ambiental en los actores educativos.

Turfgrass in equine sports has clear advantages over other types of reinforcement but adds complexity to the management. This study investigates factors that influence the turfgrass’ surface performance and how the use of a drainage package and a geotextile reinforcement affect quantitative measurements of turfgrass. The measurements are made using affordable, lightweight testing tools that are readily available or easily constructed. Eight boxes with turfgrass over a mix of the arena with peat at a consistent depth were tested for volumetric moisture content (VMC %) with time–domain reflectometry (TDR), the rotational peak shear device (RPS), the impact test device (ITD), soil cone penetrometer (SCP), and the Going Stick (GS). Results obtained using TDR, RPS, ITD, SCP, and GS indicate that the presence of the geotextile and drainage package was mainly detected by VMC (%), SCP detected geotextile addition, and GS detected the interaction of geotextile × drainage package. Linear regression showed SCP and GS are related to geotextile and was positively correlated between them and negatively with VMC (%). The testing showed some limitations of these devices, mainly related to moisture content and sod composition, but the potential exists to utilize these devices for quality control as well as for the monitoring of maintenance of the surfaces when controlling the range of both VMC (%) and sod constitution.

Introducción: Cada año mueren seis millones de personas a causa de una lesión traumática, 40% de estas muertes se deben a la hemorragia post-trauma, siendo la primera causa de muerte prevenible a nivel mundial. La presencia y persistencia de la hemorragia conduce a la coagulopatía inducida por trauma (TIC), la cual juega un papel importante en la morbimortalidad de estos pacientes. La detección temprana y tratamiento adecuado de la TIC tiene el potencial de reducir la mortalidad de los pacientes en esta población. Objetivo: Analizar datos de tromboelastografía para determinar perfil de coagulación y correlacionar con uso de hemoderivados y mortalidad. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo con los datos de pacientes post-trauma a quienes se les realizó tromboelastografía en el Hospital General de Accidentes del Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social del año 2018 al año 2020. Se realizó evaluación y revisión de las variables del tromboelastograma (TEG®), perfil de coagulación por tromboelastografía, mortalidad, ingreso a cuidados intensivos, intervención quirúrgica, tiempo de estancia hospitalaria, cantidad y tipo de hemoderivados utilizados como terapia transfusional. Resultados: 384 pacientes se clasificaron como perfil fibrinolítico, hipocoagulable, hipercoagulable, hemorrágico o normal según los resultados del TEG®. Del total de participantes, el 70.6% presentó alguna alteración de la coagulación, y el 29.4% cumplió criterios de normalidad. La mortalidad promedio en el estudio fue del 32.8%, la mayor reportada en pacientes con perfil hipocoagulable, 49.4%, seguido de hemorrágicos, 37%, hipercoagulables, 28.9%, normales, 27.4%, y finalmente el fibrinolítico, 18.6%. Además, se analizó la terapia transfusional utilizada, siendo la concentración de hematíes la terapia más común con un 61.1%, seguida del plasma fresco congelado con un 28.7% y las plaquetas con un 10.2%. Conclusión: La tromboelastografía es útil para la clasificación del perfil de coagulación del paciente post-trauma y es un estudio de laboratorio que permite determinar los hemoderivados que un paciente traumatizado requiere para reducir la tasa de mortalidad.

Tens of millions of abdominal images are obtained with computed tomography (CT) in the U.S. each year but pancreatic cancers are sometimes not initially detected in these images. We here describe a suite of algorithms (named FELIX) that can recognize pancreatic lesions from CT images without human input. Using FELIX,>95% of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas were detected at a specificity of>95% in patients without pancreatic disease. FELIX may be able to assist radiologists in identifying pancreatic cancers earlier, when surgery and other treatments offer more hope for long-term survival.

Hepatic angiosarcoma is a rare, highly aggressive mesenchymal liver malignancy with poor prognosis that stems from the endothelial cells that line the walls of blood or lymphatic vessels. It is the third most common primary liver malignancy and is most prevalent among older males. It is difficult to diagnose due to various clinical presentations from asymptomatic to abdominal pain, pleural effusion, and liver failure. The diagnosis of liver angiosarcoma is suspected on imaging features and confirmed by histopathological assessment. Primary management is determined based on the stage of tumor from surgery to palliative care such as chemotherapy or tumor transarterial embolization. We report a 51-year-old female who presented with stage 4 liver angiosarcoma and a history of childhood Wilms tumor. We focus on tumor management using radiological modalities and pathological analysis and discuss secondary liver tumors in survivors of childhood Wilms tumor.

Lymphangioma is a rare, benign congenital malformation of the lymphatic system that usually affects the neck and head in children. Intra-abdominal lymphangioma accounts for less than 5 percent of all cases of lymphangioma. The clinical presentation of intra-abdominal lymphangioma can vary from asymptomatic to nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The diagnosis of intra-abdominal lymphangioma is based on imaging modalities and histopathological examination. The definitive treatment is surgical resection. Here we describe the interesting and rare case of a 29-year-old woman with lymphangioma of the retroperitoneum extending to the root of the mesentery. We focus on the diagnosis and management of this rare tumor by the application of radiological modalities and pathological analysis.

Cardiac catheterization through the radial artery has reduced the percentage of complications seen previously in the femoral approach. Computed tomographic angiography is a noninvasive technique that can accurately diagnose pseudoaneurysms and other vascular pathologies. A 93-year-old female presented to the emergency department with pain and swelling of her right distal arm and wrist after a transradial cardiac catheterization procedure, as part of a transcatheter aortic valve replacement evaluation for severe aortic stenosis. Angiography is the standard diagnosing technique for aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms, but it is an invasive procedure. We show this case in order to highlight the importance of computed tomographic angiography as a noninvasive approach in diagnosing uncommon complications in the clinical setting.

Desmoid tumors are rare, benign, and locally aggressive neoplasms that stem from connective tissue that have high rates of recurrence after surgery. Intra-abdominal desmoid-type fibromatosis can arise in 2 forms: sporadic or hereditary (associated with familial adenomatous polyposis and Gardner syndrome). The diagnosis of desmoid-type tumors is based on imaging modalities and histopathological examination. The primary treatment is resection surgery. We report a 64-year-old male with a distal pancreatic desmoid tumor. We focus on tumor management by the application of radiological modalities and pathological analysis.

O objetivo da série é de divulgação científica de temas relacionados à biologia. A maior parte das pesquisas brasileiras são realizadas nas universidades públicas que, por meio da extensão universitária, leva informações científicas para a comunidade.

En México los paisajes forestales son territorios heterogéneos y complejos. En ellos se desarrollan una multiplicidad de usos que van desde el ecológico, cultural hasta el socioproductivo. Históricamente, las políticas de desarrollo rural y de conservación están desarticuladas, esta situación favorece la degradación y deforestación de la superficie forestal y un desarrollo de sistemas agropecuarios insostenibles. Jalisco, el Gigante Agroalimentario (Padilla et al., 2017) del país, también está examinando los costos ambientales y sociales de tal apelativo (contaminación de aguas, desigualdad, degradación de suelos, deforestación, etc.). La ganadería extensiva los cultivos de agave y aguacate son considerados como impulsores de la deforestación, por lo que se opta por llevar estos sistemas a esquemas libres de deforestación.

This article analyzes the effect of bodyweight on socioemotional skills for children aged two to 12 years in Chile. Using an instrumental variable approach and a representative survey, we show that both BMI and obesity are causality related to children's socioemotional development, even after assuming that our instrument is imperfect. Although we did not find significant differences between boys and girls, we do identify heterogeneous effects by age: the weight penalty for girls starts earlier than for boys. Our findings suggest that early interventions for childhood obesity not only might generate positive impacts on children's health, but also a greater accumulation of non-cognitive human capital in the future.

We survey a sample of the Uruguay firms in the business sector, about the use of financial instruments as: Debt Structure, Net Value Present, Internal Rate of Return, Payback Period and other capital budgeting instruments. We follow the line research o Graham & Harvey (2001) and others works that replicate the same line. Using a logistic regression model, we arrive to the result that use of the financial tools is limited, results that are in sintony with other emerging economies. We observed that use of the financial tools is related with the size of the company, the setting of a debt target, the level of education and training, as well as the seniority of the person responding, as explanatory factors of greater use of the selected tools.

The emergence of covid-19 has generated social isolation that has led to changes in emotional states and educational practices. The purpose of the study was to identify emotional well-being and meaningful learning in secondary school students through ICTs in times of pandemic, in a public institution in Lima, Peru. The research is framed in the quantitative approach, descriptive exploratory research, with a transversal non-experimental design. A sample of 130 students of both genders was included, 52 males (40%) and 78 females (60%). The questionnaire was distributed and administered online. The results reflected a moderate and low level of emotional well-being in girls, boys obtained a moderately high level of emotional well-being management. Likewise, the acquisition of meaningful learning through ICT in students was moderately low, the tools used by teachers limited the use of other resources and attractive materials that will boost and awaken the desire to learn in the learner. It is therefore recommended to implement educational activities and actions that offer the opportunity to manage emotions and the development of meaningful learning through the use of ICT., La aparición del covid-19 ha generado el aislamiento social que ha conllevado a sufrir cambios en los estados emocionales y en las prácticas educativas. El estudio tuvo el propósito de identificar el bienestar emocional y el aprendizaje significativo en los estudiantes de secundaria a través de las Tics en tiempos de pandemia, en una institución pública de Lima, Perú. La investigación se encuentra enmarcada en el enfoque cuantitativo, investigación exploratoria descriptiva, con un diseño no experimental trasversal. Se incluyó una muestra de 130 estudiantes de ambos géneros 52 varones (40%) y 78 mujeres (60%). El cuestionario fue distribuido y aplicado en línea. Los resultados reflejaron un moderado y bajo nivel de bienestar emocional en las chicas, los chicos obtuvieron un nivel moderado alto en el manejo del bienestar emocional. Así mismo, la adquisición del aprendizaje significativo a través de la TIC en los estudiantes fue moderado bajo, las herramientas empleadas por los docentes limitó utilizar otros recursos y materiales atractivos que impulsará y despertará las ganas de aprender en el educando. Por lo que se recomienda implementar actividades y acciones educativas que ofrezcan la oportunidad de gestionar las emociones y el desarrollo de aprendizajes significativos mediante el empleo de las Tics.

Under dysbiosis, a gut metabolic disorder, short-chain carboxylic acids (SCCAs) are secreted to the lumen, affecting colorectal cancer (CRC) development. Butyrate and propionate act as CRC growth inhibitors, but they might also serve as carbon source. In turn, the roles of acetate as metabolic fuel and protein acetylation promoter have not been clearly elucidated. To assess whether acetate favors CRC growth through active mitochondrial catabolism, a systematic study evaluating acetate thiokinase (AcK), energy metabolism, cell proliferation, and invasiveness was performed in two CRC cell lines incubated with physiological SCCAs concentrations. In COLO 205, acetate (+glucose) increased the cell density (50%), mitochondrial protein content (3–10 times), 2-OGDH acetylation, and oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos) flux (36%), whereas glycolysis remained unchanged vs. glucose-cultured cells; the acetate-induced OxPhos activation correlated with a high AcK activity, content, and acetylation (1.5–6-fold). In contrast, acetate showed no effect on HCT116 cell growth, OxPhos, AcK activity, protein content, and acetylation. However, a substantial increment in the HIF-1α content, HIF-1α-glycolytic protein targets (1–2.3 times), and glycolytic flux (64%) was observed. Butyrate and propionate decreased the growth of both CRC cells by impairing OxPhos flux through mitophagy and mitochondrial fragmentation activation. It is described, for the first time, the role of acetate as metabolic fuel for ATP supply in CRC COLO 205 cells to sustain proliferation, aside from its well-known role as protein epigenetic regulator. The level of AcK determined in COLO 205 cells was similar to that found in human CRC biopsies, showing its potential role as metabolic marker.

Los estudios organizacionales corresponden a las diversas realidades sociales que conciernen a las relaciones e interacciones dinámicas que se presentan entre éstas y el entorno en el que se desenvuelven. Por lo tanto, de acuerdo con el criterio de las investigadoras se plantea como premisa principal entender, comprender y explicar a toda organización, desde el enfoque holístico y sistémico que conforman el todo y el entorno de la organización puesto que se requieren de nuevos paradigmas organizacionales adaptados a la realidad. En tal sentido, se presenta como propósito general analizar desde la visión epistemológica el enfoque holístico y sistémico en los estudios organizacionales. Asimismo, desde la mirada epistemológica de la presente investigación se encuentra contextualizado desde el diseño de investigación documental y del paradigma cualitativo, puesto que el abordaje metodológico de la investigación responde a un determinado enfoque o visión de la realidad, que permitieron realizar un proceso de análisis a través de una matriz ilustrativa que proporcionará las reflexiones en la investigación. Por lo que, como principal reflexión investigativa se resalta que la visión epistemológica de los estudios organizacionales se debe a un proceso de integración entre investigar, comprender, analizar y reflexionar acerca del fenómeno organizacional., Organizational studies correspond to the various social realities that concern the dynamic relationships and interactions that occur between them and the environment in which they operate. Therefore, according to the criteria of the researchers, the main premise is to understand, understand and explain every organization, from the holistic and systemic approach that make up the whole and the environment of the organization since new organizational paradigms are required adapted to reality. In this sense, the general purpose is to analyze the holistic and systemic approach in organizational studies from an epistemological perspective. Likewise, from the epistemological point of view of this research, it is contextualized from the design of documentary research and the qualitative paradigm, since the methodological approach of the research responds to a certain approach or vision of reality, which allowed to carry out an analysis process through an illustrative matrix that will provide reflections in the investigation. Therefore, as the main investigative reflection, it is highlighted that the epistemological vision of organizational studies is due to a process of integration between investigating, understanding, analyzing and reflecting on the organizational phenomenon.

There has been an explosion in scientific interest in using human-platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a substitute of xenogeneic sera in cell-based therapies. However, there is a need to create standardization in this field. This systematic review is based on literature searches in PubMed and Web of Science databases until June 2021. Forty-one studies completed the selection criteria. The composition of PRP was completely reported in less than 30% of the studies. PRP has been used as PRP-derived supernatant or non-activated PRP. Two ranges could be identified for platelet concentration, the first between 0.14 × 106 and 0.80 × 106 platelets/µL and the second between 1.086 × 106 and 10 × 106 platelets/µL. Several studies have pooled PRP with a pool size varying from four to nine donors. The optimal dose for the PRP or PRP supernatant is 10%. PRP or PRP-derived supernatants a have positive effect on MSC colony number and size, cell proliferation, cell differentiation and genetic stability. The use of leukocyte-depleted PRP has been demonstrated to be a feasible alternative to xenogeneic sera. However, there is a need to improve the description of the PRP preparation methodology as well as its composition. Several items are identified and reported to create guidelines for future research.

This study shows that the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) celecoxib and its non-cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) analogue dimethylcelecoxib (DMC) exert a potent inhibitory effect on the growth of human cervix HeLa multi-cellular tumor spheroids (MCTS) when added either at the beginning (&ldquo, preventive protocol&rdquo, IC50 = 1 &plusmn, 0.3 nM for celecoxib and 10 &plusmn, 2 nM for DMC) or after spheroid formation (&ldquo, curative protocol&rdquo, IC50 = 7.5 &plusmn, 2 &micro, M for celecoxib and 32 &plusmn, 10 &micro, M for DMC). These NSAID IC50 values were significantly lower than those attained in bidimensional HeLa cells (IC50 = 55 &plusmn, 9 &micro, M celecoxib and 48 &plusmn, M DMC) and bidimensional non-cancer cell cultures (3T3 fibroblasts and MCF-10A mammary gland cells with IC50 from 69 to &gt, 100 &micro, M, after 24 h). The copper-based drug casiopeina II-gly showed similar potency against HeLa MCTS. Synergism analysis showed that celecoxib, DMC, and casiopeinaII-gly at sub-IC50 doses increased the potency of cisplatin, paclitaxel, and doxorubicin to hinder HeLa cell proliferation through a significant abolishment of oxidative phosphorylation in bidimensional cultures, with no apparent effect on non-cancer cells (therapeutic index &gt, 3.6). Similar results were attained with bidimensional human cervix cancer SiHa and human glioblastoma U373 cell cultures. In HeLa MCTS, celecoxib, DMC and casiopeina II-gly increased cisplatin toxicity by 41&ndash, 85%. These observations indicated that celecoxib and DMC used as adjuvant therapy in combination with canonical anti-cancer drugs may provide more effective alternatives for cancer treatment.

Obesity increases significantly cancer risk in various organs. Although this has been recognized for decades, the mechanism through which this happens has never been explained. Here, we show that obese people (BMI ≥30) have on average 55% (95%CI: 46%-66%), 68% (95%CI: 59%-76%), and 39% (95%CI: 29%-49%) larger kidneys, liver, and pancreas, respectively. We also find a significant linear relationship between the increase in organ volume and the increase in cancer risk (P-value−12). These results provide a mechanism explaining why obese individuals have higher cancer risk in several organs: the larger the organ volume the more cells at risk of becoming cancerous. These findings are important for a better understanding of the effects that obesity has on cancer risk and, more generally, for the development of better preventive strategies to limit the mortality caused by obesity.

Las politicas energeticas nacionales han sido enfocadas hacia el desarrollo sostenible, lo que ha permitido generar procesos de colaboracion e integracion de distintos sectores tanto academicos como industriales, este aporte ha logrado construir y consolidar alianzas estrategicas. Este libro constituye un aporte a la construccion de dichas alianzas, donde la investigacion y la academia se ponen en contacto y en un contexto nacional en la busqueda de soluciones a problematicas energeticas actuales, reforzando la integracion de sectores Colombianos. Historicamente el aprovechamiento de la energia ha estado ligado al crecimiento economico y social promoviendo de ese modo el desarrollo de la humanidad. Conforme la tasa de crecimiento poblacional se ha acelerado, el consumo de energia ha incrementado. En los ultimos anos la canasta energetica se ha visto ensanchada por el uso de energias renovables, principalmente de tipo solar, con lo cual el impacto en el ambiente podria disminuir en el corto plazo. Es de esperarse que el impulso dado por la Ley 1715 de 2014 contribuya a la generacion de nuevas alternativas energeticas que contribuyan con la sostenibilidad. Finalmente, el aporte que cada uno realiza al sostenimiento energetico termina siendo un aporte a la supervivencia propia y del resto de la especie. De no lograrse el sostenimiento energetico, el calentamiento global y el aumento dela contaminacion ambiental cobraran la existencia como especie de la mas debil de ellas: la humana.

Background and Objectives: Maxillary bone defects related to post-extraction alveolar ridge resorption are usual. These defects may lead to failure in further surgical implant phases given the lack of bone volume to perform the dental implant. The objective of this clinical assay was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of an experimental synthetic bone substitute in the preservation of post-extraction maxillary alveoli. Materials and Methods: 33 voluntary patients who had at least one maxillary premolar tooth that was a candidate for exodontia (n = 39) and subsequent implant rehabilitation participated. The regenerated alveoli were monitored by means of periodic clinical examinations (days 9 &plusmn, 1, 21 &plusmn, 4, 42 &plusmn, 6, and 84 &plusmn, 6), measuring the height and width of the alveolar crest (days 0 and 180 &plusmn, 5), measurement of radiodensity using tomographic techniques (days 0&ndash, 5 and 175 &plusmn, 5), and histological examination of biopsies collected at 180 &plusmn, 5 days. Results: No significant differences were observed during the entire follow-up period between the two groups with respect to the safety variables studied. A variation in width of &minus, 0.9 &plusmn, 1.3 mm and &minus, 0.6 &plusmn, 1.5 mm, and a variation in height of &minus, 0.1 &plusmn, 0.9 mm and &minus, 0.3 &plusmn, 0.7 mm was observed for experimental material Sil-Oss&reg, and Bio-Oss&reg, respectively. The radiodensity of the alveoli regenerated with the experimental material was significantly lower than that corresponding to Bio-Oss&reg, However, the histological study showed greater osteoid matrix and replacement of the material with newformed bone in the implanted beds with the experimental material. Conclusions: Both materials can be used safely and proved equally effective in maintaining alveolar flange dimensions, they are also histologically biocompatible, bioactive and osteoconductive. The experimental material showed the advantage of being resorbable and replaced with newformed bone, in addition to promoting bone regeneration.

Metabolic changes have been correlated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. The aim of the present study is to determine the TyG and TG/HDL-c indices in a cohort of healthy pregnant (n=142), preeclamptic (n=18), and healthy nonpregnant women (n=56). Preeclamptic women were selected from the same cohort. Pregnant women were followed during three periods of pregnancy and postpartum. The results showed a significant increase in the values of TyG and TG/HDL-c (p<0.01) as pregnancy progresses, without significant differences between healthy and preeclamptic women. TyG and TG/HDL-c indices are significantly low in nonpregnant and three months’ postpartum women when compared with each gestational period studied. TyG and TG/HDL-c indices are positively correlated with HOMA-IR in the early and middle pregnancy (p<0.05). Multiple linear regression using the TyG and TG/HDL-c indices as dependent variables showed that TyG index was significantly associated with HOMA-IR, gestational age, HDL-c, TC, LDL, fasting insulin, and mean BP (p<0.001); meanwhile, TG/HDL-c index was only associated with HOMA-IR (p<0.0242) and gestational age (p<0.001). In conclusion, the TyG and TG/HDL-c indices could be useful in monitoring insulin resistance during pregnancy.

Background and Objectives: Currently, one of the most discouraging aspects for many patients undergoing dental procedures is the administration of anaesthesia. Consequently, there is a constant search for new techniques to avoid the invasive and painful nature of the injection. A new motorised syringe system (Dentapen®) has recently been developed, standing out for its convenience and ease of use. Material and Methods: Randomised, controlled, single-blind, and single-centre study including 178 voluntary adult participants aged between 18 and 90 years. Individuals were randomly assigned using a randomised table. Patients were asked to rate the level of pain experienced during the injections, using a 10-point visual analogue scale (VAS). The following data were recorded: pain index, heart rate, blood pressure, and saturation, both before and after anaesthesia. Results: Of the total 178 participants, 87 participants (48.9%) were men and 91 (51.1%) were women. The first variable to be assessed was the pain experienced by patients when anaesthetised with a syringe, obtaining a mean value of 2.63 ± 1.86 on the VAS with the conventional syringe and 1.06 ± 1.28 with the Dentapen® syringe, showing statistically significant differences (p-value < 0.01). When stratifying, based on the procedure that was undertaken, differences were also significant for all treatments (p-value < 0.01) except for endodontics, where differences were likely to be significant (p-value = 0.02). Conclusions: In conclusion, from a clinical standpoint, the Dentapen® syringe is a valid alternative to traditional infiltration syringes, causing minimum pain with the injection.

Esta investigación estudia la representación discursiva del sujeto transgenerista en las noticias publicadas en la versión web del periódico El Universal entre los años 2009 y 2012, a partir de un Análisis Crítico del Discursivo, para contribuir a la comprensión del problema de la homofobia y la transfobia en la ciudad de Cartagena. El análisis se centra en los recursos lingüísticos y las estrategias discursivas usadas en las noticias para la construcción de los actores sociales transgeneristas. Para ello, se analizó la estructura textual de la noticia. Los resultados muestran que en la prensa local los hechos noticiosos sobre transgeneristas suceden de forma histórica y sin relación con la cultura y la sociedad local, se representa al transgenerista como un actor social hipersexualizado, sin voz ni representatividad discursiva, esencializado a partir de su orientación sexual e identidad de género, y estereotipado.

The CSF-470 cellular vaccine plus BCG and rhGM-CSF increased distant metastases-free survival in cutaneous melanoma patients stages IIB-IIC-III relative to medium dose IFN-α2b (CASVAC-0401 study). Patient-045 developed a mature vaccination site (VAC-SITE) and a regional cutaneous metastasis (C-MTS), which were excised during the protocol, remaining disease-free 36 months from vaccination start. CDR3-TCRβ repertoire sequencing in PBMC and tissue samples, along with skin-DTH score and IFN-γ ELISPOT assay, were performed to analyze the T-cell immune response dynamics throughout the immunization protocol. Histopathological analysis of the VAC-SITE revealed a highly-inflamed granulomatous structure encircled by CD11c+ nested-clusters, brisk CD8+ and scarce FOXP3+, lymphocytes with numerous Langhans multinucleated-giant-cells and macrophages. A large tumor-regression area fulfilled the C-MTS with brisk lymphocyte infiltration, mainly composed of CD8+PD1+ T-cells, CD20+ B-cells, and scarce FOXP3+ cells. Increasing DTH score and IFN-γ ELISPOT assay signal against the CSF-470 vaccine-lysate was evidenced throughout immunization. TCRβ repertoire analysis revealed for the first time the presence of common clonotypes between a VAC-SITE and a C-MTS; most of them persisted in blood by the end of the immunization protocol. In vitro boost with vaccine-lysate revealed the expansion of persistent clones that infiltrated the VAC-SITE and/or the C-MTS; other persistent clones expanded in the patient´s blood as well. We propose that expansion of such persistent clonotypes might derive from two different although complementary mechanisms: the proliferation of specific clones as well as the expansion of redundant clones, which increased the number of nucleotide rearrangements per clonotype, suggesting a functional antigenic selection. In this patient, immunization with the CSF-470 vaccine plus BCG and rhGM-CSF induced a T-cell repertoire at the VAC-SITE that was able to infiltrate an emerging C-MTS, which resulted in the expansion of a T-cell repertoire that persisted in blood by the end of the 2-year treatment. Acute pancreatitis (AP) is caused by acute inflammation of the pancreas and adjacent tissue and is a common source of abdominal pain. The current CT and MRI evaluation of AP is mostly based on morphologic features. Recent advances in image acquisition and analysis offer the opportunity to go beyond morphologic features. Advanced MR techniques such as diffusion-weighted imaging, as well as T1 and T2 mapping, can potentially quantify signal changes reflective of underlying tissue abnormalities. Advanced analytic techniques such as radiomics and artificial neural networks (ANNs) offer the promise of uncovering imaging biomarkers that can provide additional classification and prognostic information. The purpose of this article is to review recent advances in imaging acquisition and analytic techniques in the evaluation of AP.

The allogeneic therapeutic vaccine CSF-470 has demonstrated a significant benefit over medium-dose IFNa2b in the distant metastasis-free survival for stages IIB-IIC-III cutaneous melanoma patients in a randomized phase II/III clinical trial (CASVAC-0401, NCT01729663). At the end of the 2-year CSF-470 immunization protocol, patient #006 developed several lung and one subcutaneous melanoma metastases; this later was excised. In this report, we analyzed the changes throughout vaccination of immune populations in blood and in the tumor tissue, with special focus on the T-cell repertoire. Immunohistochemistry revealed a marked increase in CD8+, CD4+, and CD20+ lymphocytes infiltrating the metastasis relative to the primary tumor. Lymphocytes were firmly attached to dying-tumor cells containing Granzyme-B granules. Whole-exon sequencing assessment indicated a moderate-to-high tumor mutational burden, with BRAFV600E as the main oncogenic driver. Mutational signature presented large numbers of mutations at dipyrimidines, typical of melanoma. Relevant tumor and immune-related genes from the subcutaneous metastasis were addressed by RNA-Seq analysis, revealing expression of typical melanoma antigens and proliferative tumor-related genes. Stimulatory and inhibitory immune transcripts were detected as well as evidence of active T-cell effector function. Peripheral blood monitoring revealed an increase in CD4+ and CD8+ cells by the end of the immunization protocol. By CDR3-T-cell receptor β (TCRβ) sequencing, generation of new clones and an increase in oligoclonality was observed in the peripheral T-cells immune repertoire throughout immunization. A shift, with the expansion of selected preexisting and newly arising clones with reduction of others, was detected in blood. In tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, prevalent clones (50%) were both new and preexisting that were expanded in blood following CSF-470 immunization. These clones persisted in time, since 2 years after completing the immunization, 51% of the clones present in the metastasis were still detected in blood. This is the first report of the modulation of the TCRβ repertoire from a melanoma patient immunized with the CSF-470 vaccine. After immunization, the changes observed in peripheral immune populations as well as in the tumor compartment suggest that the vaccine can induce an antitumor adaptive immune repertoire that can reach tumor lesions and persists in blood for at least 2 years. Undoubtedly, the adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm has impacted on our every-day life, surrounding us with smart objects. Thus, the potentialities of this new market attracted the industry, so that many enterprises developed their own IoT platforms aiming at helping IoT services’ developers. In the multitude of possible platforms, selecting the most suitable to implement a specific service is not straightforward, especially from a security perspective. This paper analyzes some of the most prominent proposals in the IoT platforms market-place, performing an in-depth security comparison using five common criteria. These criteria are detailed in sub-criteria, so that they can be used as a baseline for the development of a secure IoT service. Leveraging the knowledge gathered from our in-depth study, both researchers and developers may select the IoT platform which best fits their needs. Additionally, an IoT service for monitoring commercial flights is implemented in two previously analyzed IoT platforms, giving an adequate detail level to represent a solid guideline for future IoT developers., Sin lugar a dudas, la adopción del paradigma de Internet de las cosas (IoT) ha impactado en nuestra la vida cotidiana, rodeándonos de objetos inteligentes. Así, las potencialidades de este nuevo mercado atrajeron la industria, por lo que muchas empresas desarrollaron sus propias plataformas de IoT con el objetivo de ayudar a IoT desarrolladores de servicios. En la multitud de plataformas posibles, seleccionar la más adecuada para implementar un servicio específico no es sencillo, especialmente desde una perspectiva de seguridad. Este artículo analiza algunas de las propuestas más destacadas en el mercado de plataformas de IoT, realizando un análisis en profundidad comparación de seguridad utilizando cinco criterios comunes. Due to the growth of IoT (Internet of Tings) devices in diferent industries and markets in recent years and considering the currently insufcient protection for these devices, a security solution safeguarding IoT architectures are highly desirable. An interesting perspective for the development of security solutions is the use of an event management approach, knowing that an event may become an incident when an information asset is afected under certain circumstances. Te paper at hand proposes a security solution based on the management of security events within IoT scenarios in order to accurately identify suspicious activities. To this end, diferent vulnerabilities found in IoT devices are described, as well as unique features that make these devices an appealing target for attacks. Finally, three IoT attack scenarios are presented, describing exploited vulnerabilities, security events generated by the attack, and accurate responses that could be launched to help decreasing the impact of the attack on IoT devices. An alternative for the reutilization of polystyrene waste containers consisting in creating a hybrid material made of SiO2nanoparticles embedded in a matrix of recycled polystyrene (PSR) has been developed. Recycled polystyrene functionalized (PSRF) was used to influence the morphological and antifog properties by the sol-gel synthesis of nanohybrid silica. To this end, silica nanoparticles were produced from alkoxide precursors in the presence of recycled polystyrene. The functionalization of this polymeric matrix was with the purpose of uniting in situ carboxyl and silanol groups during the sol-gel process. In this way, opaque or transparent solid substrates can be obtained, with each of these endowed with optical conditions that depend on the amount of reactants employed to prepare each nanohybrid specimen. The nanohybrids were labelled as SiO2/PSR (HPSR) and SiO2/PSRF (HPSRF) and their properties were then compared to those of commercial polystyrene (PS). All the prepared samples were used for coating glass substrates. The hydrophobicity of the resultant coatings was determined through contact angle measurement. The nanohybrid materials were characterized by FT-IR and1H-NMR techniques. Additionally, TGA and SEM were employed to determine their thermal and textural properties.

Anais e artigos do 28º Fórum Acadêmico de Letras, realizado nos dias 23 a 25 de agosto de 2017 na Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana (Unila) e Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (Unioeste) com tema: A pesquisa nos cursos de letras em contexto de línguas e culturas em contato. O presente trabalho visa relatar a importância da mulher e da cultura árabes em Foz do Iguaçu. Leva-se em consideração o contexto de cidade pluricultural, na qual encontra-se uma diversidade de culturas, as quais têm fatores que são representativos de cada uma delas. Desse modo, falar da mulher muçulmana é fundamental já que ela é um ícone na representação da cultura do Islam, geralmente por causa de sua vestimenta, mais especificamente devido ao uso do hijab (véu), o qual é diretamente associado ao Islamismo. Tem-se por meta abordar a visibilidade da mulher árabe muçulmana nesse município trifronteiriço, com reflexões sobre os imaginários sociais que a envolvem, visto que geralmente se tem uma ideia de que ela é oprimida e sem direitos por causa da sua religião. Pretende-se mostrar sua opinião desde sua perspectiva, desde sua fala, com uso de dados coletados por um trabalho realizado no ano de 2016, em um projeto de ensino de língua árabe intitulado Árabe, Arabismo e Muçulmanismo na Tríplice Fronteira, que culminou em um trabalho de conclusão de curso e que será a fonte dessa apresentação. Será relatada a análise teórica feita a partir das diversas entrevistas que constituíram o corpus, mostrando que as mulheres destacaram seus pontos de vista a respeito de si, da sua visibilidade, da sua contribuição, da sua participação e da sua integração linguístico-cultural na cidade de Foz do Iguaçu

The irradiated, allogeneic, cellular CSF-470 vaccine plus Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and recombinant human granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor (rhGM-CSF) is being tested against medium-dose IFN-α2b in stages IIB-III cutaneous melanoma (CM) patients (pts) after surgery in an open, randomized, Phase II/III study. We present the results of the Phase II part of the ongoing CASVAC-0401 study (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01729663). Thirty-one pts were randomized to the CSF-470 vaccine (n = 20) or to the IFN-α2b arm (n = 11). During the 2-year treatment, immunized pts should receive 13 vaccinations. On day 1 of each visit, 1.6 × 107 irradiated CSF-470 cells plus 106 colony-forming units BCG plus 100 μg rhGM-CSF were administered intradermally, followed on days 2-4 by 100 μg rhGM-CSF. IFN-α2b pts should receive 10 million units (MU)/day/5 days a week for 4 weeks; then 5 MU thrice weekly for 23 months. Toxicity and quality of life (QOL) were evaluated at each visit. With a mean and a maximum follow-up of 39.4 and 83 months, respectively, a significant benefit in the distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) for CSF-470 was observed (p = 0.022). Immune monitoring showed an increase in antitumoral cellular and humoral response in vaccinated pts. CSF-470 was well tolerated; 20/20 pts presented grades 1-2 dermic reactions at the vaccination site; 3/20 pts presented grade 3 allergic reactions. Other adverse events (AEs) were grade 1. Pts in the IFN-α2b arm presented grades 2-3 hematological (7/11), hepatic (2/11), and cardiac (1/11) toxicity; AEs in 9/11 pts forced treatment interruptions. QOL was significantly superior in the vaccine arm (p < 0.0001). Our results suggest that CSF-470 vaccine plus BCG plus GM-CSF can significantly prolong, with lower toxicity, the DMFS of high-risk CM pts with respect to medium-dose IFN-α2b. Esta pesquisa desenvolve um estudo e reflexão sobre a cotidianidade de dispositivos de segurança na vida contemporânea baseando-se em uma mirada panóptica da sociedade. Antecedentes sobre os conceitos de vigilância e controle social, as teorias de Jeremy Bentham e Michel Foucault, com sua investigação sistemática sobre o Panóptico, e uma discussão da obra 1984 de George Orwell, são momentos do itinerário que nos faz chegar aos dias de hoje expondo exemplos como Facebook, tecnologia RDIF e webcams, configurando apenas uma parte do sistema de controle e vigilância social e sua expansão. A proposta performática de Schechner, segundo a qual o sujeito pode adaptar sua conduta aos diversos contextos sociais, associada aos conceitos ocultamento/revelação, proporcionam aproximação às concepções de subjetividade e interação - corpo-atuação docente -, abrindo espaço para uma discussão sobre o professor e suas performances nas práticas pedagógicas. A base metodológica da pesquisa se articula a partir dos conceitos ocultamento/revelação e da observação e análise da relação entre sujeitos e dispositivos de tecnologia visual em espaço pré-determinado. Organizado em duas etapas, o trabalho de campo foi realizado em um ambiente de acesso público na cidade de Paysandú, Uruguai. Na primeira etapa da pesquisa se construiu um observatório experimental que operou de maneira autônoma. This research develops a study and reflection on the daily life of safety devices in contemporary life, based on a panoptic view of society. References about surveillance concepts and social control in Jeremy Bentham and Michael Foucault theories with their systematic investigation of Panoptic and a discussion about the 1984 George Orwell work, are moments which let us reach examples as Facebook, RFID Technology or webcams, set up the control system and social surveillance in growing. Schechner's proposal, according to which the subject can adapt his behavior to the various social contexts, associated with the concealment / revelation concepts, providing an approximation to the concepts of subjectivity and interaction - body-teaching performance - opening space for a discussion about Teacher and their performances in pedagogical practices.The methodological basis of the research is articulated from the concealment / revelation concept, and from the observation and analysis of the relationship between subjects and visual technology devices in pre-determined spaces. Organized in two stages the field work was carried out in an environment of public access in the city of Paysandú, Uruguay.
