The success of the carbon emissions trading scheme (ETS) in fostering a mutually beneficial outcome for both the economy and the environment depends on its ability to enhance total factor productivity (TFP). We investigate the diverse implementation of this market‐based environmental policy across Chinese provinces using a staggered Difference‐in‐Differences model. Our study delves into the mechanisms of the ETS, particularly focusing on financialization and innovation, utilizing listed companies in Chinese stock markets as our research sample spanning from 2009 to 2022. Our analysis shows several key findings: (1) ETS facilitates the growth of TFP in micro‐firms, positively influencing other listed companies within the same sector and city. However, its impact on TFP is notably weaker in regions with robust environmental information disclosure and stringent environmental regulations. (2) The ETS helps alleviate resource misallocation stemming from excessive financialization of firms, prompting them to reallocate investments from financing activities to production and operation activities, thus enhancing TFP. (3) Contrary to expectations, the ETS does not directly influence TFP through enhancing firm innovation ability; instead, it encourages directed technical innovation toward green technology over digital technology. This article examines the impact of sustainability-oriented governance factors on companies reporting on due diligence requirements of conflict minerals (DDRCM). We use the rating scores that are assigned by the Responsible Sourcing Network (RSN) on a sample of multinational companies between 2015 and 2019. We consider whether the existence and type of an independent external audit, the existence of sustainability reports to communicate a firm's message, the inclusion of sustainability-related targets in executive compensation contracts, and the existence of board-level sustainability committees are associated with DDRCM reporting. We find that the combined effect of sustainability-oriented governance factors is associated with higher DDRCM reporting suggesting that sustainability governance plays an effective role in shaping the corporate response to conflict mineral risks. We also find that effective boards moderate the association between sustainability governance and DDRCM reporting suggesting that effective boards can substitute for the resources that are required for sustainability governance. Traditional corporate governance mechanisms can improve corporate financial and non-financial disclosures. However, how corporate climate governance affects firms' waste disclosure remains unclear. Contributing to the emerging climate governance concept, this study investigates climate governance's impact on waste disclosure using a sample of U.S. non-financial firms from 2002 to 2019. This study makes two contributions to the disclosure and governance literature. First, it shows that high-quality climate governance improves firms' waste disclosure (including hazardous and non-hazardous waste disclosures). It reveals that climate governance quality affects firms' waste disclosure through several channels. Second, we show that higher waste disclosure and climate governance quality reduce firms' market performance. Climate governance quality has a significant positive moderating role in the relationship between waste disclosure and firms' market performance; higher climate governance quality positively impacts firms' market performance through waste disclosure. Fintech, as the fusion of finance and technology, has not only transformed the traditional financial industry and contributed to reshaping the real economy. But also, it holds the potential to offer a feasible solution for achieving green and sustainable development. This paper investigates the impact of Fintech on corporate carbon emissions (CCEs) by using data from the National Tax Survey Database (NTSD). The results suggest that Fintech development leads to a reduction in CCEs. Our findings remain robust even after using the instrumental variable approach to alleviate endogeneity problems. The mechanism analysis reveals that Fintech reduces CCEs via alleviating financing constraints, improving energy efficiency, and promoting green innovation. Heterogeneity analysis demonstrates that Fintech dramatically decreases CCEs from coal energy consumption, while increasing CCEs from consuming power and gas energy. Additionally, carbon emissions from state‐owned and foreign companies experience a more pronounced reduction through Fintech compared to those from private firms. Furthermore, firms in eastern and middle regions are more vulnerable to Fintech development. Moreover, enterprises in non‐high‐tech industries and high‐polluting industries exhibit noteworthy performance in reducing carbon emissions through Fintech adoption. This paper conducts a comprehensive review of the theoretical and empirical connections between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Information Asymmetry (IA), and their economic consequences. It employs a bibliometric analysis on 73 Web of Science manuscripts using VOSviewer1.6.18 software, combining this analysis with a literature review. The results reveal four thematic areas categorized into three clusters: CSR and IA, the impact of CSR and IA on internal risk control and corporate performance, and the broader effects of CSR and IA. The systematic literature review finds a prevailing consensus that CSR can alleviate IA issues, leading to positive economic outcomes like increased stock liquidity, enhanced investment efficiency, and reduced cost of capital. This study's uniqueness lies in its integration of bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review to provide a holistic summary of both theoretical frameworks and the economic implications of the CSR‐IA relationship. This study examines the relationship between corporate ESG ratings and green innovation based on data from Chinese A‐share listed companies for the period between 2011 and 2022. The findings suggest a "U"‐ shaped relationship between ESG ratings and green innovation. Companies with lower ESG ratings (referred to as "bad" companies) tend to focus on improving their corporate governance and operational conditions, often at the expense of green innovation. However, as companies improve their ESG ratings, they increasingly view green innovation as a key growth area. This relationship is particularly evident in companies with low profitability and high operational risks. Additionally, we explore the impact of corporate ESG ratings on different types of green patents. The study finds that "bad" companies can mitigate the negative impact on green innovation through collaborative efforts, while non‐inventive green innovations, they benefit from independent research and development. Furthermore, the study examines the role of government subsidies and executive compensation in influencing this relationship. The results show that government subsidies can both positively and negatively affect green innovation, depending on the company's operational status and ESG rating. The results provide valuable insights for companies, investors, and policymakers regarding the significant role of ESG scores in promoting green innovation and suggest strategies to enhance corporate sustainability performance. The aim of this paper is to investigate the impact of board cultural diversity (BCDIV) and board structure policy (BSP) on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure. The sample of this study includes 2988 companies from G7 countries during the 2015–2022 period. Our empirical results reveal that boards with heterogeneous cultural directors and the existence of BSP improve overall ESG scores. Further analysis shows that BSP is a crucial determinant of the governance dimension, one of the pillars of ESG disclosures, whereas BCDIV affects the social dimension more. The findings of this paper offer policy insights, highlighting the importance of BCDIV and BSP for better ESG disclosure. Policymakers should therefore establish regulations that encourage BCDIV and BSP and promote ESG disclosure. This study examines the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance on audit report lag and whether political uncertainty and power distance levels impact such association. We find that audit report lag is significantly lower for firms with a high CSR performance. We further find that the impact is evident only for large firms and those whose financial reports are audited by highquality auditors. However, our analysis suggests that political uncertainty and power distance intensity do not moderate the association between CSR performance and audit report lag. Our results remain robust after excluding some control variables, addressing the endogeneity issues, and using alternative audit report lag measures. This study contributes to audit delay literature by recognising CSR practices as a determinant of audit report lag in the GCC setting. This study examines whether corporate commitment to climate change is driven by country‐level factors related to cultural values and the legal system (LS) of a country. We also investigate the impact of corporate governance strength on climate change commitment and the extent to which there are moderating effects between corporate governance and cultural and LS influences. We use a large dataset of 21,564 firm‐year observations of companies operating in the United States, UK, and China for the period 2013 to 2020 and develop a unique measure for climate change commitment using different proxies for measuring climate change practices. We find variations in climate change commitment among the three countries and that cultural values and LSs affect corporate commitment to climate change. Companies located in a socially oriented society, which are transparent and characterized by long‐term orientation, are more strongly involved in climate change actions. The strength of corporate governance increases corporate commitment to climate change. Corporate governance also moderates some of the detrimental cultural influences on climate change commitment. These findings have implications for managers as they reveal that macro‐level factors affect behavior and that corporate governance can help to moderate these factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the underlying drivers of the tone of corporate social responsibility (CSR) narratives by considering four corporate governance mechanisms and examining whether there is a relationship between environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure and the CSR narrative tone based on a sample of UK firms from 2008 to 2017. The results show that more independent directors would lead to a less optimistic language (positive tone) and a more pessimistic language (negative tone) in the CSR report. The results also show that a higher ESG disclosure score leads to a more positive CSR narrative tone. However, gender diversity has a positive impact on the positivity of CSR tone when the ESG score is medium or high and when the board size exceeds 10 members. These findings are relevant for policymakers, investors, and firm managers.
