Simple Summary: This study investigated the use of natural remedies, acacia honey (AH) and Nigella sativa oil (NSO), to treat colitis, a painful inflammation of the colon. Current treatments often have side effects, leading researchers to explore safer alternatives. The study used computer simulations to understand how these natural products interact with proteins linked to inflammation and oxidative stress, key factors in colitis. Experiments on mice with colitis revealed that both AH and NSO significantly reduced inflammation, restored colon health, and improved symptoms, with a combination of the two showing the greatest healing effects. The treatments were well-tolerated, with no negative impact on the mice's overall health. These findings suggest that AH and NSO could provide a natural, effective, and safe approach to managing colitis, offering hope for improved care and quality of life for those affected. Colitis, an inflammatory condition of the colon that encompasses ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease, presents significant challenges due to the limitations and side effects of current treatments. This study investigates the potential of natural products, specifically AH and NSO, as organic therapeutic agents for colitis. Molecular docking studies were conducted to identify the binding affinities and interaction mechanisms between the bioactive compounds in AH and NSO and proteins implicated in colitis, such as those involved in inflammation and oxidative stress pathways. An in vivo experiment was performed using an albino mouse model of colitis, with clinical symptoms, histopathological assessments, and biochemical analyses conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effects of the compounds both individually and in combination. Results from the molecular docking studies revealed promising binding interactions between fructose and Prostaglandin G/H synthase 2 (Ptgs2) and between fructose and cellular tumor antigen p53, with docking energy measured at −6.0 kcal/mol and −5.1 kcal/mol, respectively. Meanwhile, the presence of glucose molecule glucokinase chain A (−6.3 kcal/mol) and chain B (−5.8 kcal/mol) indicated potential efficacy in modulating inflammatory pathways. Experimental data demonstrated that treatment with AH and NSO significantly reduced inflammation, improved gut health, and ameliorated colitis symptoms. Histopathological evaluations confirmed reduced mucosal damage and immune cell infiltration, while biochemical analyses showed normalization of inflammatory markers and oxidative stress levels. This study provides compelling evidence for the potential of AH and NSO as natural, complementary treatments for colitis, suggesting their future role in integrative therapeutic strategies. Deseeded oil palm fruit head (DOPFH) is commonly used to prepare food delicacies native to the Southeast part of Nigeria. Three fractions: DOPFH-A, B and C were derived from the filtrate of DFOP ash by fractional crystallization. DOPFH-B is an alkaline substance with a pH of 10.9. To determine the lethal dose (LD50) of DOPFH-B in mice, Lorke's method was compared with the up-and-down procedure (UDP). The tests were carried out in male and female mice which involved subcutaneous and oral administration. In Lorke's method, female and male mice were divided into three groups (n = 3) for subcutaneous and oral administration. Varying doses; 10, 100 and 1000 mg/kg were given. In the second phase, two groups (n = 3), were administered 2000 and 5000 mg/kg subcutaneously and orally. For UDP, 5000 mg/kg was administered subcutaneously (SC) to each male and female mouse in the limit test. In the main test, 7 and 12 male mice; 7 and 8 female mice were treated subcutaneously and orally with UDP doses of 550, 1750, 2000 and 5000 mg/kg. Using Lorke's method, LD50 of 3250 mg/kg was obtained for both female and male mice by both routes. UDP estimated LD50 of 2100 mg/kg for females and LD50 is greater than 2100 mg/kg for male mice administered subcutaneously. LD50 for the orally administered female and male mice was given 5000 mg/kg. Nanoparticles have emerged as a significant focus of biomedical research due to their unique properties and potential applications in medicine. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of copper carbonate nanoparticles on different biological parameters and protein interactions in albino mice in a broader way by employing experimental and computational methods. Characterization of the synthesized nanoparticles was confirmed through SEM, XRD, and FTIR analyses as confirming that fluorite-type particles were synthesized with tiny spherical particles with unique crystal structures. Some changes were observed in the hematological profile. In this study, WBC (14.69 ± 0.43 × 108/µl), MCH (21.13 ± 0.66 pg), and MCHC (32.63 ± 0.85 g/dl) levels were significantly elevated, while Hb (9.75 ± 0.34 g/dl), platelet count (296.67 ± 4.19 × 103/µl), and neutrophils (55.00 ± 0.82%) showed significant decreases. Hepatic and renal profiles indicated a marked increase in ALP (110.00 ± 3.27 U/L) and ALT (84.33 ± 1.25 U/L), while AST (45.67 ± 2.49 U/L), urea (22.63 ± 0.56 mg/dl), and creatinine (32.97 ± 0.69 µmol/L) were reduced. Biochemical analysis showed a decrease in triglycerides (72.33 ± 1.25 mg/dl) and LDL (45.00 ± 0.82 mg/dl) but an increase in total cholesterol (86.87 ± 2.81 mg/dl). Hormonal analysis revealed reductions in TSH (1.23 ± 0.19 ng/ml), IgE (105.00 ± 1.63 ng/ml), and LH (7.50 ± 0.50 miu/ml), with a significant rise in insulin (783.00 ± 5.89 pg/dl). Homology modeling and molecular docking supported interactions of copper carbonate nanoparticles with key proteins such as thyroxine (docking score, − 5.8 kcal/mol), insulin (− 6.2 kcal/mol), SOD, AST, albumin, and catalase. These findings suggest that copper carbonate nanoparticles influence metabolic, biochemical, and endocrine processes by altering protein stability and function, contributing to the understanding of their biological and molecular behavior. Introduction: Many drugs are irritating to the gastric mucosa and induce gastric erosion and when these side effects are coupled with additional parameters, such as bacterial infection, stress, and gastric pH, these together induce gastric ulcer. The present study aimed to evaluate the gastric erosion effects of chloroquine using mice models. Methods: A total of 20 mice were used for this study, divided into two groups of 10 each; the control group was administered only standard food and water, and the chloroquine group was given standard food with water with additional chloroquine solution of 1.2 mg/kg daily orally for a month. The stomachs were dissected and sliced for histological staining and analysis. Results: Chloroquine has remarkably induced tissue degeneration and villi sloughing alongside white blood cell infiltration with patchy areas of stomach erosion compared to the normal architecture of the stomach tissue of the control group. Histological studies in the liver, lung and kidney of albino mice fed uninfested and infested wheat grains by granary weevil Sitophilus granaries were tested in the Agricultural Zoology laboratory of the Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University, El-Minya, Egypt. Cross-section of the liver of an albino female fed healthy, uninfested grains, showed no bleeding or megakaryocytes. Sections in the liver of male albino mice fed on infested wheat grains by granary weevil S. granaries showed several megakaryocytes appeared in sinusoids as well as hemorrhage and congestion appeared in liver sections.Cross-section in the lungs of albino male mice fed healthy, uninfested grains, showed no focal chronic alveolitis. However histological studies on the lungs of albino mice fed infested wheat grains showed the thickness of alveolar walls with fibrosis, focal chronic alveolitis with fibrosis was likewise clear with a slight buildup of histiocytes around the terminal bronchiole and into the alveolar spaces.Bleeding inside bronchioles and outside alveoli also appeared. Moreover, kidney sections of male albino mice fed uninfested wheat grains by granary weevil showed normal kidney structure, while sections in kidneys of male albino mice fed infested wheat grains by granary weevil S. granariusshowed many distortions of the tubules whose cuboidal cells are “vacuolated” with the absence of a clear brush border (microvilli) of the proximal convoluted tubules. Hemorrhage appeared inside and outside seminiferous tubules. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease due to the malfunctioning of B cells of the pancreas. For a very long time, various herbal remedies have been utilized to prevent diabetes. To compare the hypoglycemic impact of an allopathic medication called Metformin, which has a dosage of 650mg/kg BW, with the hypoglycemic effect of a herbal extract (a 2:1 combination of cinnamon and fenugreek) at 200mg/kg BW, this study was designed. Fenugreek and cinnamon contain bioactive ingredients called procyanidin and 4-hydroxy isoleucine, which have anti-diabetic properties. There were four groups of mice. The first group received no treatment; the second group received no treatment; a third group received herbal extract treatment; and the fourth group received metformin treatment. Swiss Albino received a single intraperitoneal injection of alloxan monohydrate at 200mg/kg BW. Group III (the treated group) received 200mg/kg of herbal extract for 14 days. Additionally, treated group IV received metformin for 14 days at a 650mg/kg dose. After treating groups III and IV with an herbal extract and metformin, the bilirubin level gradually and dramatically (P<0.05) decreased from the elevated level in the +ve control group. Similarly, serum levels of alkaline phosphate (ALP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) increased dramatically (P<0.05) in alloxan-induced diabetic mice due to liver injury. Their level was dramatically (P<0.05) reduced after the extract and metformin were administered, coming very near to the -ve control group. This decrease demonstrated the potency of metformin and herbal extract. However, metformin worked better than herbal extract. The liver portion displayed a considerable degree of damage in the diabetic group. Following treatment, the liver section's typical architecture was noted. Introduction Genetic engineering has revolutionized agriculture by transforming biotic and abiotic stress-resistance genes in plants. The biosafety of GM crops is a major concern for consumers and regulatory authorities. Methodology A 14-week biosafety and toxicity analysis of transgenic cotton, containing 5 transgenes ((Cry1Ac , Cry2A , CP4 EPSPS , VIP3Aa , and ASAL)), was conducted on albino mice. Thirty mice were divided into three groups (Conventional, Non-transgenic, without Bt, and transgenic, containing targeted crop) according to the feed given, with 10 mice in each group, with 5 male and 5 female mice in each group. Results During the study, no biologically significant changes were observed in the non-transgenic and transgenic groups compared to the control group in any of the study's parameters i.e. increase in weight of mice, physiological, pathological, and molecular analysis, irrespective of the gender of the mice. However, a statistically significant change was observed in the hematological parameters of the male mice, while no such change was observed in the female study group mice. The expression analysis, however, of the TNF gene increases many folds in the transgenic group as compared to the non-transgenic and conventional groups. Conclusion Overall, no physiological, pathological, or molecular toxicity was observed in the mice fed with transgenic feed. Therefore, it can be speculated that the targeted transgenic crop is biologically safe. However, more study is required to confirm the biosafety of the product on the animal by expression profiling. This article explores the impact of chronic consumption of monosodium glutamate (MSG) on social interaction and motor function in adult Swiss albino mice. The study found that long-term administration of MSG at various doses reduced social interaction time in the mice, indicating potential anxiogenic effects. However, motor function was not impaired. The study suggests that further research is necessary to fully understand the potential impact of MSG on anxiety in humans. Additionally, the study found that there was no significant difference in social interaction between different time intervals or doses of MSG, but all MSG-treated groups showed lower social interaction compared to the baseline at 3 months of treatment. Malaria is a threat to the lives of below age five children and pregnant women living in sub-Saharan Africa. Oxidative stress is a key factor in malaria pathogenesis and artemisinin-based combination therapy with Vitamin C may protect human host against the toxicity of free radicals. In this study, we examined the alteration in biochemical indices and antioxidant enzymes gene expression in the bone marrow cells of Plasmodium berghei infected mice treated with artemether-lumefantrine and ascorbic acid. Five groups of six mice each categorized as basal control, untreated, ascorbic acid, artemether-lumefantrine and artemether-lumefantrine + ascorbic acid were used for this study. Biochemical assays and analysis of antioxidant enzyme gene expression were carried out. Artemether-lumefantrine co-administration with ascorbic acid resulted in complete parasite clearance day three post-infection; this same group had a non-significant increase (p>0.05) in superoxide dismutase activity and a significant decrease (p<0.05) in the malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration of the liver when compared with the artemether-lumefantrine group. Similar trend was observed for H2 O2 level in erythrocyte lysate. The levels of expression of catalase, Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase genes in the P. berghei infected mice treated with artemether-lumefantrine plus Vitamin C were up-regulated compared with the group treated with lone artemether-lumefantrine. This study has shown that artemetherlumefantrine co-administration with ascorbic acid may be beneficial in P. berghei infected mice because total parasite clearance, decrease in oxidative stress markers and up-regulation in antioxidant enzyme gene expression were observed three days post treatment. This study was done to find the potential renal protective effects of sildenafil and its underlying mechanisms in mice with adenine-induced CKD. For the experiment, 40 male mice were split into four groups. The control group (A) received the same food without medication until the research ends, while the other three collections (B, C, and D) were given adenine (0.25% w/w in feed daily for 8 weeks), groups (C and D) were given sildenafil (0.5 and 2.5 mg/kg) respectively orally every day for 30 days, and then blood samples were taken to assess the function of the kidneys (Urea, total protein, and creatinine), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) in addition to kidney histopathology, as well as body and kidney weight. Administration of adenine caused weight loss, increased TAC, SOD, and CAT, and increased plasma concentrations of urea, total protein, and creatinine. Damage-related renal histopathological indicators (fibrosis and inflammation) were considerably elevated by adenine. Most of the aforementioned metrics improved with sildenafil, indicating that it might be utilized as an adjuvant treatment for CKD in people through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic mechanisms. Hemidesmus indicus (Apocynaceae) has been utilized traditionally in the Indian subcontinent for the treatment of snakebites and scorpion stings. It has also several beneficial bioactivities in human beings such as antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory and skin diseases. The purpose of this study was to assess the anti-venom capability of Hemidesmus indicus root extract against cobra venom (Naja nigricollis). Albino mice were utilized to test the plant’s efficacy using the venom of N. nigricollis. H. indicus root extract (600 mg/kg) neutralized cobra venom and generated 100 % survival, suggesting its antivenom potential. H. indicus showed a substantial antivenom effect (p0.05) against the venom of N. nigricollis, indicating that it might be a useful drug for treating snake venom. The present study provides scientific basis for use of root extract of H. indicus against N. nigricollis venom.

This study involves effects of ethanolic extracts of leaves of Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre and Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh on hematological parameters and biochemical components of blood serum of male albino mice. The extracts were administrated orally (100 mg/ ml solvent/ Kg body weight) for 15 days and it was observed that the complete blood count (CBC) remained unaffected while cholesterol (P = 0.03) and triglyceride (P = 0.008) levels in serum were significantly elevated in P. pinnata leaf extract treated mice. Mice treated with E. camaldulensis leaf extract had significantly reduced white blood cells (P = 0.05), platelets (P = 0.05), alanine aminotransferase (P = 0.04) and significantly increased mean corpuscular hemoglobin levels (P = 0.04) as compared to control group. Our results indicated that both leaf extracts had tendency to disturb the blood biochemistry of healthy male albino mice. Background: Poisoning due to the bites and stings of venomous snakes and scorpions is a neglected public health problem, particularly in rural areas. Poor health facilities and inadequate knowledge of health care personnel are the major factors that result in envenomated human victims not receiving adequate care and medical attention. There is a great need for up-to-date and effective healthcare knowledge and awareness of the potency and lethality of venomous creatures in Iran. Assessment of the potency, acute toxicity, and lethal effects of venomous creatures come from a variety of specific tests, such as the 50% median lethal dose (LD50) and ample animal experimentations. Methods: In the present study, using modified Reed-Muench method, the LD0, LD50, and LD100 values of the venoms from five Iranian vipers and one scorpion were determined. The studied venomous creatures were: Macrovipera lebetina, Vipera albicornuta, Vipera raddei, Caucasicus intemedius agkistrodon, Montivipera latifii, and one scorpion Hemiscorpius lepturus. The venoms were injected in Albino mice (n=204) intraperitoneally, and their toxicities determined. Results: The results revealed that the LD50 values of the above-mentioned creatures were 3.87, 2.05, 1.63, 1.45, 0.84, and 6.33 mg/kg, respectively. Among the vipers, M. latifii had the most potent venom while M. lebetina’s venom had the lowest toxicity. Conclusion: Theoretically, the determined LD50 values provide for objective comparisons of the toxicity among of the venoms. However, comparison becomes complicated due to variations in the venoms’ LD50. Further, based on the venoms’ toxicity levels, H. lepturus’ venom caused the lowest toxicity in the Albino mice.

Synthetic fabrics, especially polyester, are a primary source of microplastic fibers (MFs), but there is limited data on their accumulation and dose related health impact in living organisms. This study examined the effects of ingested polyester microfibers (PE-MFs) on hematology, histopathology, and serum biochemistry in albino mice. Mice were given varying doses of PE-MFs (100, 200, 400 and 800 μg/d/mice) for a duration of thirty-five days and a notable decreases in certain hematological parameters such as RBCs, Hb, and platelets, and increases in MCV and MCH was noted at (p < 0.05) thereby indicating possible inflammatory response within the body resulting from ingestion of these MFs. Liver enzymes (ALT, AST, and alkaline phosphatase) and histopathological changes in the liver and gastrointestinal tract also exhibited significant variations, with higher levels seen in the group receiving the highest dose of PE-MFs (800 μg/d/mice). In summary, increased exposure to PE-MFs led to a dose-related impact and notable alterations in histopathological, hematological, and serum biomarkers in albino mice. This study highlights the potential hazards associated with dietary exposure to PE-MFs in mammals and emphasizes the need for further research in this field. Despite extensive industrial use, the biocompatibility of nanocomposites has not been extensively explored. The present study was designed to report the effect of variable doses of a newly synthesized nanocomposite, Neodymium Zirconate Zinc Sulfide, on selective serum and complete blood count parameters and on the oxidative stress markers from the vital organs of albino mice. Albino mice (C57BL/6 strain, 5 weeks old) of both sexes were orally treated for 11 days, either with 10 mg (low dose) or 20 mg/mL saline/kg body weight (high dose) of Neodymium Zirconate Zinc Sulfide nanocomposite. A control group that was not treated with the nanocomposite but with saline solution was also maintained. Data analysis revealed that high-dose nanocomposite-treated male mice had significantly reduced hemoglobin concentration as compared to the control males. Female mice treated with both doses of nanocomposite had higher serum triglyceride levels than controls. High-dose-treated female mice had elevated serum cholesterol concentration compared to their saline-treated controls. Oxidative stress marker analysis from selected organs indicated that concentrations of malonaldehyde (MDA) in the kidney and liver, Superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in the brain and catalase in the kidney of male mice treated with the nanocomposite were significantly higher than in the control group, whereas SOD in the heart, MDA in the heart and kidney and catalase levels in the kidney were significantly disrupted in female mice compared to their respective controls. Aflatoxins are mycotoxins found as a foodstuff contaminant, but some of them are seen to increase cancer risk. Aflatoxins are the most potent natural toxin recognized. The sperm shape and chromosomal aberration test were used to investigate the effect of aflatoxin on albino male mice. The aim of this research is to assess the cytogenetic and sperm toxic effects of aflatoxin in albino male mice in vivo. The doses used were (control, 10, 20, and 30) mg/kg/bw for 24 hours. Our results reveal that aflatoxin can cause a range of chromosomal malformations like chromatid break without fragment, ring chromosomes, dicentric chromosomes, centromeric break, chromatid gap, and fragment chromosomes the abnormalities increased from 5 in control to 62.2 in 30mg/kg. and sperm abnormalities in male albino mice subjected to various doses were hookless, headless, tailless, defective head, long and broad hook, folded head, folded tail, and sperm with double tail, increasing the dose concentration enhanced the rate of it when compared to untreated mice from17.6 in control to 136.4 in the highest dose. Study was conducted to assess the effects of Conus species venom on histological alterations in brain, heart, kidney and liver of mice. The crude protein content venom of three species of Conus was partially purified by DEAE Cellulose anion exchange chromatography using a stepwise gradient of 0.1-1.0 M NaCl and 10 fractions each of 15 mL, F1 – F10 were collected. The crude venom was found to be lethal for two fractions in Conus betulinus, three fractions in Conus inscriptus and three in Conus monile at 0.1 mL dose when injected intra-peritoneal to mice upon envenomation. The brain, heart, kidney and liver were removed carefully and studies for tissue histology. Autopsy of test mice that died upon envenomation revealed the impact of venom on the brain, heart, liver and kidney. The results of the histopathological observations indicated that the toxins of the three Conus species had adverse effects on the brain, heart, liver and kidney of mice and they have proved to be Cardiotoxic, Neurotoxic, Nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic. The histopathological changes in the visceral organs of mice injected with the venom of C. betulinus, C. inscriptus and C. monile revealed that, the venom had similar deleterious effects on the organs of mice viz. brain, heart, kidney and liver irrespective of the nature of its purity. he current study sought to assess the antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties of Moringa oleifera seed extract versus carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-stimulated liver damage. Materials & Methods:(40) Male albino mice were separated into four groups for the investigation The control group (A) was given distilled water (DW), whereas the other three groups (B, C, and D) were administered CCl4 intraperitoneally (IP) (0.5 ml/kg) mixed with corn oil (vol/vol), for 8 weeks, twice a week. Group (C) was given Moringa seed extract (1g/kg) orally every day for 8 weeks, while group (D) was given corn oil orally, and the groups (C) and (D) were compared to group (B) which was given CCl4 IP. The researchers measured liver functions, blood-reduced glutathione (GSH), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in erythrocytes. Moreover, catalase enzymes in liver tissue homogenate were also assayed and superoxide dismutase (SOD), in addition to liver histopathology. Results: Following a CCl4 injection, liver enzymes and MDA levels were elevated. Conversely, TAC, serum albumin, total protein, catalase, tissue SOD, and blood glutathione levels were all decreased. Administration to Moringa oleifera seeds extract reduces MDA levels and enzyme activity in the liver while increasing antioxidant activity. Simultaneously, after treatments with this extract, the histological damage effects of CCl4 intoxication were also improved. Conclusion: Finally, Moringa oleifera seeds extract increased innate antioxidant activity and reduced CCl4-induced liver damage, suggesting that it might be employed as a hepatoprotective medication in the future. Activity of levofloxacin, lomefloxacin and moxifloxacin against 20 FI+ and 20 FI- strains of Yersinia pestis was studied. It was shown that the strains were highly susceptible to the fluoroquinolones. In the experiments on mice subcutaneously infected with suspension of strains 231 FI+ and 231 FI- of Y.pestis in a dose of about 1000 LD50 (104 microbial cells) the ED50 of levofloxacin and moxifloxacin was 5.5-14.0 mg/kg independent of the infective culture phenotype and that of lomefloxacin was 18.5 mg/kg. Estimation of the impact of the pathogen infective dose value on the results of the experimental plague treatment with the therapeutic dose equivalent to the human one showed high efficacy of the fluoroquinolones (efficacy index of 104). The treatment for 7 days provided 90-100-percent survival of the animals. The prophylactive use of lomefloxacin (in 5 hours - 5 days) was less efficient (70-80% of the survivals) in the animals infected with the antigen-changed (FI-) variant of the pathogen. Levofloxacin and moxifloxacin provided 90-100-percent survival of the animals treated for a course of 5 days independent of the pathogen phenotype. The study demonstrated that the use of levofloxacin, lomefloxacin and moxifloxacin was prospective for the prophylaxis and therapy of experimental plague.

Despite obvious success in the vaccine development and chemotherapy of influenza, it remains a poorly controlled infection leading to emergence of new pandemic variants of the virus with high morbidity and mortality. We investigated the protective activity of Ingavirin® against the lethal influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection on albine mice. Oral use of Ingavirin® resulted in sharp decreasing of the mortality (index of protection up to 57%), slight decreasing of the infectious titer of the virus in the lungs (up to 40-fold), normalizing of the body weight dynamics and the lung tissue structure vs. the placebo-treated control. The degree of the bronchial epithelium damage was also strongly decreased. The results allow to consider Ingavirin® as an effective antiviral against the current pandemic influenza virus.

The recommended treatment for visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis is pentavalent antimony at a dosage of 20 mic/kg/day for 28 days. Some studies suggested that antimonial pentostam has multiple acute and chronic adverse effects, which can be minimized by using the lowest effective dose. The present study is aimed to evaluate the hepatotoxicity effect of sodium stibogluconate (pentostam) in mice as a model. Adult male albino mice were divided into three groups, seven mice each, injected with 20 mic/kg pentostam in addition to a control group. Later 14 days, groups II, III, and IV were tested after one, three, and six weeks respecttively. The mice’s serum and liver tissues were collected, and biochemical and histopathological measurement were carried out. Biochemical analysis of the serum obtained showed a significant increase in the levels of AST, ALT, and ALP in groups II and III when compared with the control group. In parallel, the histopathological assessments of the liver tissue proved hepatocytic necrosis. From this study, it can be concluded that the antimonial pentostam has a hepatotoxicity effect on treated mice.

The current experimental study determined the lipid lowering effects of corn flour in albino mice. A total 180 adult albino mice having average body mass (30±9 g) were procured and kept in clean and aerated plastic cages. After 7 days of acclimatization, all the mice were randomly divided and kept in six equal groups consisting of groups A and B (untreated and treated control) and treated groups (CF). Mice were fed diet containing cholesterol (400 mg/kg body weight) for induction of hyperlipidemia. All the groups were given atherogenic diet for 15 days except group A. Standard drug (Simvastatin) was given to control group @ 0.6mg/kg at day 15 till the completion of experiment. The mice were given corn flour in group C (1 gm/kg), D (2 gm/kg), E (4 gm/kg) and F (6 gm/kg) at day 15 up to day 60 of trial. Blood was collected for serum separation from each mice at days 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 of trial. The results on serum biochemistry indicated that supplementation of different concentrations of corn flour significantly altered serum lipid profile (TL, TC, TG and LDL) in albino mice. The values of HDL were increased in mice of corn flour treated groups. Results showed that corn flour at 6 mg/kg body weight significantly lowered cholesterol levels in treated mice. This study was aimed to evaluate the toxic properties of phenylmethane on internal organs and liver enzymes (Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Alkaline serum transaminase (AST)changes in mice. Thirty albino mice randomly divided equally into 2 groups, each group contains (15) animals as following: 1st group was administrated orally (0.2 mg / kg B.w) of Phenylmethane daily for (8)weeks, 2nd group was considered as negative control group. Finally all animals euthanized and sample of blood were taken for biochemical examination and histopathological specimens were taken from liver, kidney and brain. Results revealed that phenylmethane pointedly enlarged in the level of liver enzyme after 8 weeks that ALP (88.50 ± 1.01), AST (250.20 ± 0.92) compare with control(50.00 ± 0.85), (231.80 ± 1.40). The histopathological lesions showed that the animals exposed to toxic dose of phenylmethane was characterized by inflammatory reaction, hemorrhage, congested blood vessels, necrosis, fibrosis and granuloma in internal organs. The efficacy of levofloxacin and moxyfloxacin vs. the previously tested fluoroquinolones was studied on albino mice with experimental plague due to the Nalr mutants of Yersinia pestis 231 and 231 FI-. The plague microbe mutants resistant to nalidixic acid (Nalr) generated at a frequency of 10'10-10'9. The resistance to nalidixic acid was not accompanied by the strains loss of the virulence. The Nalr mutants were cross resistant to fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, moxyfloxacin). The LD50 for the nontreated animals did not differ from that for the mice treated with nalidixic acid and the fluoroquinolones (when the animals were infected with Nalr mutants). The results showed that the criteria of the plague microbe susceptibility/resistance to fluoroquinolones should be revised.

Klossiella muris is an intracellular protozoan parasite infecting the kidneys of mice. It is considered an uncommon coccidian parasite of laboratory and domestic mice occurring mostly in wild rodents. Existing studies on the organism are lacking despite it having worldwide distribution. Histopathological analysis of kidney sections taken from two separate colonies of mice reared in different periods (years 2015 and 2020) showed the homoxenous coccidian parasite at various developmental stages. These include the schizogonic phase within the glomeruli and the gametogenic and sporogonic phases invading the epithelial cells of the convoluted tubules. Mild to moderate focal interstitial round cell infiltration in the parenchymal tissues surrounding the glomeruli, arterioles, and tubules were also observed. Although renal coccidiosis in mice is generally subclinical, the presence of K. muris in the kidneys of laboratory or domestic mice signifies poor husbandry and management practices and can negatively affect the credibility of research findings. Background: Cancer is constituted as the most famous fatal disease among human-being. DMBA is a common carcinogen and immunosuppressant and experimentally used for the induction of mutations via the creation of DNA adducts. Aim: Evaluation of the therapeutic effect of Lagenaria siceraria on 9,10 dimethyl-1, 2-benzanthracene (DMBA)-induced changes. Materials and Methods: A total number of thirty adult female albino rats within average age 3 months classified into 3 groups as follow: Group1 is designated as control. Group 2 was subcutaneously injected with a single dose of DMBA (10 mg/ 100 g b. wt) and after 90 days, animals have received a daily injection of distilled water for 30 days. Group 3 was subcutaneously mice were injected with a single dose of DMBA and after 90 days, mice were received morning and night daily injection of Lagenaria siceraria (100 μ g/ 100 g b.w) for 30 days. After scarifying the mice, ileum samples were taken and passed the histological examination, also Histochemical stains were done. Results: From the cell biological, histochemical, and histopathological points of view, the carcinogen DMBA has a highly stimulatory effect on the cellular activities, DNA synthesis, RNA synthesis, and cell proliferative in the normal epithelial cells lining villi of the ileum of female mice, while Lagenaria siceraria has a highly inhibitory effect on the volume of the nuclei, DNA synthesist, and the cell proliferation of the DMBA-induced cells lining villi of the ileum of female mice. Conclusion: Finally, it could be said that the carcinogen DMBA has a proliferative and/or possibly a carcinogenic effect on the ileum of female mice. Among marine animals, ascidians represent the most highly evolved group for marine natural products having rich source of bioactive secondary metabolites with promising potential biomedical applications. In this study, an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-pyretic activities of Phallusia nigra were performed. The acute toxicity (LD50) was calculated, and the intraperitoneal route was estimated to be 235.09, 252.90, and 295.59 mg/kg with 95% confidence limits for methanolic extract (ME), acetonitrile extract (ANE), and acetone extract (AE) respectively. Histopathological observations revealed the toxic effects of different crude extracts of P. nigra, which were more analogous on the organs such as the lungs, liver, and kidneys of the test animals. Analgesic response of acetonitrile fraction II (ANF2) was higher than all the crude extracts as well as the fractions tested, and it was very low in acetone fraction I (AF1). In addition to that, different extracts and their fractions obtained from P. nigra was potential to reduce the edema induced by carrageenan (500 μg/paw) in a duration dependent manner. Our study again proves that compounds isolated from lower forms (ascidians) showed tremendous effects in mice without any deleterious effect generally provoked during chemical drug treatments. Present study was designed to investigate the effects of 300 mg/ml solvent/Kg of body weight of Bauhinia variegata's leaf extract on selective aspects of albino mice behavior in a gender specific manner. Seven week old female and male albino mice were used as experimental animals. Mice were orally supplemented either with 300 mg/ml solvent/Kg of body weight Bauhinia variegata's leaf extract or with saline solution (0.9% NaCl) for 17 days. Behavioral observations were made by applying a series of neurological tests (Rota rod, Elevated plus maze, Light and dark box, Open field, Novel object and Morris water maze test). It was observed that Bauhinia variegata's leaf extract supplementation improved neuromuscular co-ordination in female albino mice during rota rod test (P = 0.002), had more rotations (P = 0.02) and clockwise rotations (P = 0.01) during plus maze test and had more stretch attend reflex (P = 0.005) than control group. During the second trial of novel object test, Bauhinia variegata's leaf extract treated male albino mice approached old object A (P = 0.04) and spend more time with object A (P = 0.05) as compared to control group. Open filed, light dark test and probe trial of Morris water maze test performances remain unaffected in both genders (P > 0.05) when compared between 300 mg/ml solvent/Kg body weight of Bauhinia variegata's leaf extract treated and untreated albino mice of both genders. We concluded that applied dose of Bauhinia variegata's leaf extract has the potential to improve neuromuscular co-ordination in female albino and should be explored further as potential treatment for neuromuscular problems. Objective(s): This study aimed to investigate the effect of Shogaol on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)- induced ulcerative colitis (UC) in mice compared to an immune-suppressant chemotherapeutic medicine, known as 6-thioguanine (6-TG). Materials and Methods: Thirty-six adult BALB/c mice were divided into six groups: group 1 (positive control): no DSS exposure and no treatment; group 2 (negative control): DSS exposure without treatment; group 3 (vehicle control): DSS exposure and olive oil treatment; group 4: DSS exposure and 0.3 mg/kg 6-TG treatment; group 5: DSS exposure and 20 mg/kg Shogaol treatment; and group 6: DSS exposure and 40 mg/kg Shogaol treatment. At day 16, the mice were euthanized and UC was evaluated according to colon length, histologically index score and expression scores of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR).Results: The disease activity index (DAI) and histological index scores of mice treated with 40 mg/kg body weight (BW) Shogaol were approximately lower than the corresponding scores of mice treated with 6-TG. In addition, the rate of healing in the former mice was approximately 3 folds higher than that of the latter ones as indicated by the lack of EGFR expression in colonic glands and macrophages. Conclusion: These findings showed that the therapeutic effect of 40 mg/kg BW Shogaol could be better than 6-TG in the treatment of UC, and it may draw the attention regarding the priority of using this cheap plant-derived substance for treatment of the inflammatory bowel diseases because treatment with 6-TG is usually associated with adverse side effects.

Grape seed extract (GSE) is a complex mixture of several compounds, mostly represented by polyphenols and phenolic acids. The goal of the pilot study was to illustrate the safe dose of GSE in mice model and to assess toxicity that may be initiated by the different concentrations of this plant. Forty-two mice were divided equally into 7 groups; groups 1 attended as control, were only received water, whereas animals of groups 2, 3, 4 were treated orally with 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg b.w. of black grape seed extract respectively, and the remaining groups including 5, 6, and 7 were treated orally with 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg b.w. of red grape seed extract respectively. The animals were observed daily for any sign revealing for activity alterations and toxicity along with their body weight measurement during the experiment for 21 days with histopathological examination. The results gained from this pilot study were recording that the 200 and 400 mg/kg b.w. doses of GSE were safe compared to the 800 mg/kg b.w.in both black and red grape seed extracts because the higher dose led to a reduction in body weight gain and produce changes in the mentioned organs. The request for more efficient and lower-cost therapeutic methods for wound healing remains a challenge for modern medicine. The goals of this investigation were to recognize and look at the impacts of Mastic Gum Resin, Lawsonia Inermis, and Quercus Brantii in wound healing by using histopathological study and blood parameters in BALB/c Mice. Mice were comprised into four groups: Control negative group (n=10), mice were not treated with plant suspension only applied with normal saline; Treatment group I, mice were applied by Mastic Gum Resin (MGR) (n=10), Treatment group II, mice were applied with the Quercus Brantii (n=10), and the last group, Treatment III which were applied with Lawsonia Inermis (LI) (n=10). One ml for each suspension of Mastic Gum Resin (MGR), Quercus Brantii (QB), and Lawsonia Inermis (LI) was applied to the wound directly without suturing for 4 days/week for about 3 weeks. Wound healing effects were evaluated by utilizing the hematological profile for each group with the histopathological study. The cutaneous wound in Mastic Gum Resin and Quercus Brantii treated groups were more effective in progressing wound healing than Lawsonia Inermis treated group regarding histological changes at day 8 and day 18, respectively and blood parameters at day 21. This study was designed to report the biological effect of nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) in albino mice. Five weeks old albino mice of both sex were intraperitoneally injected either with 20 mg (low dose) or 50 mg/mL saline/kg body weight (high dose) of NiO NPs for 14 days. Saline-treated controls were maintained in parallel. Complete blood count, selected serum biochemical parameters and oxidative stress biomarkers from vital organs were determined in all subjects. Male mice treated with NiO NPS had increased blood urea nitrogen, elevated superoxide dismutase (SOD) in liver elevated MDA in liver, kidney and heart and reduced catalase activity in heart and kidney. Female mice treated with NiO NPs had significantly reduced serum albumin and total proteins, SOD in lungs and elevated MDA in liver. We are reporting that intraperitoneal injections of NiO NPs for 14 days drastically affect blood serum parameters and oxidative stress biomarkers from vital organs of albino mice. Ficus religiosa has been extensively used in traditional medicine for the treatment of gonorrhea, diarrhea, dysentery, leucorrhea, menorrhagia, vaginal and other urogenital disorders, haemorrhoids and ulcers, but limited information is available regarding their effect on behavior. The present study was designed to demonstrate the effect of F. religiosa leaf extract on the selected behavioral aspect of albino mice. Four weeks old albino mice of both genders were orally treated with 50 mg ml−1 solvent kg−1 body weight of F. religiosa leaf extract for seven days while the control animals were treated with saline (0.9% NaCl) solution. A battery of neurological tests (rota rod, open field, light dark box, elevated plus maze and novel object recognition) was conducted in all subjects. Female mice treated with F. religiosa leaf extract had significantly reduced rota rod performance in comparison with the control. Male mice treated with leaf extract had significantly reduced transition frequency during light dark box test while during elevated plus maze test, male mice remained mobile for less time and had reduced rotations than their control group. Male mice treated with leaf extract had significantly reduced line crossing and failed to recognize the old object during the second trial of novel object recognition test. Our results indicated that oral supplementation of F. religiosa leaf extract for seven days had significantly reduced the exploratory behavior and object recognition capacity of male mice and neuromuscular coordination of females, indicating gender specific effects of the applied ethanolic leaf extract. This study was conducted to examine the possible effects of Ag-NPs synthesized using the olive leaf extract on histopathology and cytogenetic effct in mice. A total of thirty albino mice aged two months were divided into five treatment groups as follows: Group 1: served as control was administrated orally with 0.3 mg/kg bw of normal saline; Group 2 and 3 were administrated orally with varying doses of Ag-NPs synthesized on olive leaf extract (10 and 100 mg/kg bw, respectively) for 30 days; Group 4 and 5 were administrated orally with olive leaf crude extract (300 and 1000 mg/kg bw, respectively) for 30 days. At the end of experimental period, detection of possible chromosomal aberrations in blood samples and histopathology (liver, spleen, kidney, uterus and testes) were carried out. Statistically significant differences (P<0.05) were observed for the chromosomal aberrations in all Ag-NPs groups compared to control and to crude olive leaf extract groups. Histopathological study revealed various alterations in internal organs at high dose of Ag-NPs group including: inflammatory reaction, blood congestion, degeneration, fibrosis, mononuclear cells lesion and necrosis. Slight changes were identified at both doses of crude olive extract treated groups. Based on these results, oral administration of Ag-NPs could cause genotoxic and inflammatory responses in mice and this could be representing a risk to both environment and human health. This is the first study on ICR albino mice continuously exposed to natural UV radiation in comparison with a parallel laboratory experiment in order to verify the naturally obtained effects on the animal organism. The mice were exposed at the Moussala Basic Ecological Observatory (2925 m a.s.l.) in Rila Mountain and in the laboratory, simulating the same radiation intensity. Results regarding the genotoxic effect of the UV background on the experimental animals are presented. Different types of early mutagenic effects in blood cells such as micronuclei in erythrocytes and diverse chromosome aberrations such as breaks, fragments, centromeric and telomeric fusions in the bone marrow cells were observed. A gradual increase of micronuclei from the 15th to the 40th day of the experiment was observed. The percentage of metaphases with aberrations in the samples from both Peak Moussala and laboratory varied similarly from about 8.75 ± 0.75% on the 15th day after the beginning of irradiation and increased slightly on the 30th day, reaching a maximum value of 10.75 ± 0.92% on the 40th day of the experiments. These experiments lead to the conclusion that the environmental impact of natural UV radiation induces abnormal DNA changes, harmful for the animal organism, especially at higher altitudes. Excessive exposure of ultraviolet type B (UVB) is the primary cause of skin issues like sunburn, swelling, hyperplasia, skin aging and cancer. Our objective was to assess the effectiveness of topical administration of refined coconut oil (RCO) and virgin coconut oil (VCO) against anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative UVB adverse effects in mouse skin model by using of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF)-α and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1). Twenty-four adult, BALB/c mice were allocated into 4 groups: group 1 (control negative) not exposed to UVB; group 2 (control positive) exposed to UVB only and left without treatment; group 3 exposed to UVB and treated by RCO topically; groups 4, exposed to UVB and treated topically by VCO. At day 35, the mice were sacrificed. Histomorphometry was achieved for their epidermal thickening with inflammatory reaction measurement, and the expression of TNF-α and TGF-β markers were estimated by immunohistochemistry. VCO reduced epidermal hyperplasia and thickness in comparison to the RCO group including; stratum spinosum thickness for the VCO showed (26.95±1.83μm) less mean than RCO group (39.88±4.24μm), stratum granulosum in VCO group (17.56±0.69μm) in comparison with the RCO (27.11±3.04μm). Regarding the stratum corneum thickness for the RCO (38.98±3.40μm) showed high mean than the VCO (21.49±2.08μm) and the inflammatory score was significantly decreased by (scores 2 and 1) for the RCO and the VCO, respectively as specified by the downregulation of TNF-α and TGF-β markers expression in the skin. Background: Piroxicam is one of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which is widely used in treating rheumatic disorder. Aim of the study: Studying the effects of piroxicam pertaining on the liver tissue to the chronic administration in male albino mice Mus musculus histologically and histochemically changes. Material and methods: A total number of (30) adult male albino mice were utilized in this study, they were randomly distributed into three groups, the first and second groups were orally treated with concentrations (75, 150) mg/kg of piroxicam respectively for one and two months, the third group considered as control group were orally treated with distilled water, liver samples were collected every one and two months for the histological and histochemically study. Results: This study recorded the presence of histopathological changes in liver tissue of the treated mice with concentration 75 mg/kg represented by degeneration of hepatocyte, sinusoidal dilation, inflammatory cellular infiltration, vascular congestion in the portal vein and beginning of calcium casts formation, while the group treated with 150 mg/kg of the drug showed portal vein congestion and dilation, blood sinusoidal were highly obliterated, proliferation of bile duct and nuclei appeared pyknotic, in addition there were a remarkable decrease in the glycogen controls of cells. Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are the most prescription as therapeutic drugs, used to treat of rheumatic diseases, due to analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activity. Isoxicam is a member of NSAIDs group use to stop inflammation, pain associated with arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing and spondylitis. The goal of the present study is to revealed the effect of different doses of Isoxicam on ovaries tissue in mice. Twenty four female mice are randomly divided into control (n = 6) and experimental (n=18) groups. The experimental groups are subdivides into three groups . Each administrated by (0.0714, 0.1428, 0.71428)mg/kg/day for twenty days, respectively; however the control group just injected by distill water. In twenty day, mice were killed and ovaries tissue was prepared for light microscopic examination. All the experimental animals were injected by drug revealed a hyperplasia of germinal cells on the surface of ovary, tongue like projection of primordial oocytes extend to the medulla, multiple oocytes with disarrangement of follicles and deficient of follicular fluid associated with disappearance of oocytes, vacuolation in the cortical layer of the ovary, compressed premature follicle, hypercellularity of follicular cells, degeneration of germinal layer of cortex surface and hyperplasia of primordial oocytes, therefore it is recommended that using of this drug have many side adverse on female fertility. A number of strontium-based iron oxides are available for the industrial use. Among them, strontium hexaferrite cobalt iron oxide (Sr2Co2Fe12O22) is preferred over others due to its better magnetic and electrical properties than others. This material is also extensively used for the absorption of microwave radiations. This study was conducted to account for the synthesis and characterization of Sr2Co2Fe12O22 nanoparticles and to report their biocompatibility in albino mice. Nanoparticles were synthesised by normal microemulsion, XRD analysis confirmed the single and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed average particle size ranged between 30 and 50 nm. Nine-week-old male mice were intraperitoneally administered with 50 mg/mL of solvent/kg body weight of strontium hexaferrite cobalt iron oxide nanoparticles for 22 days. Control group was maintained in parallel. A series of neurological tests (rota rod, light and dark box, open field and Morris water maze) were conducted in both groups. Blood samples were collected from direct cardiac puncture, and parameters of complete blood count, serum biochemical parameters and antioxidant were determined in liver and brain tissues of all subjects. Analysis of result revealed that all studied neurological test performances varied nonsignificantly (P > 0.05) between the two treatments except clockwise rotations during open field test that were significantly reduced (P = 0.05) in Strontium hexaferrite Cobalt Iron Oxide nanoparticle-treated male albino mice than in the control group. All studied complete blood count and serum parameters varied nonsignificantly (P > 0.05) between two treatments. It was observed that superoxide dismutase concentration was significantly higher (P = 0.05) in the liver of nanoparticle-treated male mice. In conclusion, we are reporting that applied dose of strontium hexaferrite cobalt iron oxide nanoparticles is affecting the exploratory behaviour and antioxidant metabolites of male albino mice.
