ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic and occupational influences on health professionals’ quality of life. Method: This descriptive-exploratory, cross-sectional, analytical, and quantitative study addressed 94 health workers, including nursing technicians, nurses, and physical therapists working in Intensive Care Units in a town in the extreme south of Brazil in 2023. The student’s t-test and Spearman correlation were used. Results: A significant positive correlation was found between being a woman and the psychological domain and between income and the social and environmental domain while working hours were inversely related to general QoL. Additionally, workload negatively impacted the physical, psychological, and general QOL, furniture negatively influenced the psychological domain, and equipment was negatively associated with the physical and psychological domain. Conclusion: The characteristics of the work environment interfere with several areas of quality of life.

ABSTRACT Objective: To learn the strategies used regarding underreporting of pesticide use in rural areas. Methods: A qualitative study was carried out in eight primary healthcare units in rural areas and two emergency care units in a municipality in southern Brazil. Data collection took place in 2023 through interviews. Twenty professional nurses participated. The data was submitted to content analysis. Results: The strategies identified were lifelong and continuing education for the professionals who carry out the notification, active search and training of workers who deal directly with this type of substance, computerizing the notification by filling in the forms online, and carrying out research on the subject. Final considerations: Nurses play an important role in reporting occupational accidents caused by the use of pesticides, improving occupational safety in rural areas.

Objetivou-se conhecer as representações sociais acerca do cuidado familiar à criança com tuberculose pulmonar. Estudo qualitativo, descritivo realizado em três municípios do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, baseado na Teoria das Representações Sociais. Participaram 13 familiares cuidadores de crianças em tratamento para tuberculose pulmonar ou que realizaram tratamento nos últimos cinco anos. A coleta de dados ocorreu por entrevistas. Utilizou-se o discurso do sujeito coletivo para análise de dados. A representação do cuidado significou o zelo redobrado e a maior atenção por se tratar de uma criança. Destacou-se o estímulo à alimentação, promoção da higiene pessoal e do lar, preocupação com a saúde (evitar o frio, chuva e o ambiente fechado), além da administração do medicamento e acompanhamento nos serviços de saúde e durante a internação hospitalar. O cuidado também envolveu a formação de uma rede de apoio social da família que prestaram o apoio e auxílio no cuidado à criança. Concluiu-se que a família deve ser mais valorizada pelas políticas públicas de saúde pelo seu importante papel no controle da tuberculose, sendo o cerne para que as crianças possam atingir a cura.

Plant herbivore interactions have long been recognized as a complex interplay influenced by various factors, including plant volatile emissions. Understanding the role of these volatiles in mediating plant predator interactions is crucial for developing sustainable pest management strategies. This study investigated the olfactory preferences of Chrysoperla externa larvae for volatiles emitted by Eucalyptus urograndis leaves, focusing on both seedlings and essential oils (EOs). We used Y-tube olfactometry to compare larval preferences between the clean air and various plant treatments, including undamaged and herbivore-damaged leaves. Chemical analysis of EOs revealed higher concentrations of oxygenated monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes in young and damaged leaves, particularly linalool, which has been implicated in insect attraction. Our results showed a significant preference for volatiles emitted by young damaged leaves over clean air for both seedlings (χ2 = 11.03, p = 0.001) and EOs (χ2 = 9.76, p = 0.002). Chrysoperla externa larvae are significantly attracted to specific volatiles from damaged E. urograndis leaves, suggesting these compounds could serve as cues for natural enemy foraging. Our findings enhance the understanding of plant–predator dynamics and suggest potential applications of eucalyptus plantations to sustain C. externa populations for biocontrol purposes.

The present study aims to explore the anti-inflammatory potential activity of the hexane extract from branches (HEB) of Endlicheria paniculata (Lauraceae) and its main compound, methyldehydrodieugenol B, in the inflammatory response induced by a murine implant sponge model. HPLC-ESI/MS analysis of HEB led to the identification of six chemically related neolignans, with methyldehydrodieugenol B as the main compound. An in silico analysis of the pharmacokinetic parameters of the identified compounds suggested moderate solubility but good absorption and biodistribution in vivo. Thus, the treatment of mice with HEB using in vivo assays indicated that HEB promoted pro-inflammatory, antiangiogenic, and antifibrogenic effects, whereas treatment with methyldehydrodieugenol B caused anti-inflammatory, antifibrogenic, and antiangiogenic effects. The obtained results shown the therapeutic potential of HEB and methyldehydrodieugenol B in the treatment of pathologies associated with inflammation and angiogenesis, including chronic wounds.

Resumo O final do século XX testemunhou a ascensão de modelos de política pública baseados em soluções de mercado, o que estimulou a privatização e o surgimento de parcerias público-privadas no setor de saneamento básico. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar as estratégias comerciais e operacionais adotadas pela Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo (Sabesp), tendo em vista as transformações em curso no mercado internacional, a fim de juntar elementos que contribuam para o debate das políticas de saneamento no Brasil. A metodologia do trabalho buscou identificar convergências e divergências entre os interesses dos investidores e dos usuários, a partir da análise das informações econômicas e operacionais disponíveis nos relatórios dos acionistas, com destaque para os seguintes aspectos: recursos humanos, investimentos, tarifas, eficiência operacional e lucratividade. A investigação concluiu que a Sabesp vem seguindo estratégias semelhantes às observadas nas companhias que atuam no mercado internacional, embora tenha divergido em alguns aspectos, possivelmente em razão das características da infraestrutura de saneamento presentes em São Paulo. Finalmente, em oposição à harmonia preconizada nos textos que defendem as soluções de mercado, esta pesquisa apontou nas estratégias da Sabesp os conflitos entre os interesses de investidores e usuários.

Cercospora brachiata is a phytopathogenic fungus. To know more about the metabolites produced by this fungus, the objective of this work was to identify, isolate and characterize substances present in extracts of the growth broth and mycelium, using gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). It was also objective to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the extracts. Among the compounds identified, fatty acids, esters, and steroids can be highlighted. The main compounds identified are 9-hexadecenoic, hexadecenoic, oleic, octadecanoic, lauric, myristic, palmitic, doceno-13-enoic, stearic, linoleic, and nonadecanoic acids present in almost all extracts. For the antibacterial activity, the broth microdilution method was used. The ethyl acetate extract of the mycelium presented inhibitory concentrations (MICs) against the bacterium Actinomyces naeslundii (100 μg mL−1) and Streptococcus sanguinis (200 μg mL−1). Finally, two steroids were isolated and identified in the hexane extract of mycelium: ergosta-6,22-dien-3β,5α,8α-triol and brassicasterol.

The recent quest for efficiency in public companies in Brazil was one of the motives to elaborate this paper, which had a public Institution of Higher Education (IHE) as its subject of study. The IHE profiled possesses a multi-campus structure and the distribution of its consumer items is performed by the institution’s own warehouse. Through field research, it became apparent that the supply of these items had some problems, such as items out of stock, orders with delayed delivery, items past their shelf life etc. Therefore, this paper article aimed to propose an evaluation system of the logistical services at the IHE studied, based on performance indicators developed from mangers’ perceptions about the problems occurring in the distribution of consumer items. In addition, an index, calculated from diverse indicators, was proposed which would be able to express the performance of the logistics service of the IHE studied, and reflect the perceptions of the main users of this service. It is understood that the solution proposed here can be applied to any two-echelon supply network.

The species Inga laurina is native to the Brazilian Cerrado. There are no studies about the chemical composition and biological activities of extracts of this endangered species. The ethanolic extract and its successive fractions are rich in phenolic compounds and presented good antifungal activities. HPLC/MS-MS/MS and H1/C13 analysis led to the identification of seventeen compounds, most of which are gallic acid derivatives, myricetin and quercetin glycosides. The ethyl acetate fraction (EAF) contained high levels of total phenolics, expressed in milligrams of gallic acid equivalents per gram of extract (475.3 ± 1.9 mg GAE gextract-1) and flavonoids expressed in milligrams of quercetin equivalents per gram of extract (359.3 ± 10.6 mg QE gextract-1). This fraction was active against fungi of the Candida genus. The EAF showed MIC value 11.7 μg mL−1 against C. glabrata and a selectivity index of 1.6 against Vero cells. The flavonol glycoside myricetin-3-O-rhamnoside was isolated for the first time from the Inga laurina. These results make I. laurina a promising plant as a source of pharmaceutical and biological active antifungal compounds.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo averiguar a qualidade do carvão vegetal para consumo doméstico, comercializado na região Serrana Sul de Santa Catarina. Foram coletadas 12 marcas de carvão na região da Associação dos Municípios da Região Serrana (AMURES) e Curitibanos. Foram descritas e analisadas as características gerais das embalagens e determinadas as propriedades físicas e energéticas de cada uma das marcas. As propriedades analisadas foram: densidade relativa aparente, teor de umidade, poder calorífico, teor de carbono fixo, voláteis e cinzas. As marcas comercializadas na região são oriundas dos Estados de Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul e Paraná. A acácia-negra e os eucaliptos são as espécies mais usadas para a produção de carvão. Não existe padronização das informações nas embalagens. O carvão vegetal apresentou densidade relativa aparente alta (0,403 g/cm3); teor de umidade alto (7,35%); poder calorífico superior médio de 6.449 kcal/kg, com muita variação entre as amostras; alto teor de voláteis e cinzas; e baixo teor de carbono fixo (32,85%, 1,96% e 65,17%, respectivamente). A produção e consumo do carvão vegetal no Planalto Sul catarinense são regionalizados, sem padronização das embalagens e com registro nos órgãos ambientais de fiscalização. A qualidade do carvão comercializado na região é baixa.

ResumoO objetivo deste estudo é interpretar os diferentes significados existentes nos emblemas/símbolos de estilos e escolas de Karate-Dō, analisando seus elementos internos e sua importância dentro dessa prática. Para sua realização, foram realizadas três etapas distintas: 1) catalogação e investigação dos estilos e escolas de Karate-Dō com maior representatividade histórica, cultural e política; 2) identificação dos símbolos utilizados por cada um desses estilos e escolas; e 3) análise de cada um desses símbolos. Essa análise torna-se importante para uma compreensão mais profunda dos diferentes significados envolvidos na prática do Karate-Dō, pois, apesar de seguirem um conjunto de valores comum a todos os Budō, as escolas possuem sua própria visão de mundo, utilizando seus símbolos para reforçar ou externar tais conceitos. A maior parte dos símbolos analisados demonstra um aprofundamento cultural em seus grafismos, sendo reconhecidos alguns elementos até de aspecto espiritual ou religioso. Esse simbolismo, em si, mostra um aspecto relevante para a compreensão do próprio fenômeno multicultural nomeado Karate-Dō.

The human gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is highly colonized by bacterial communities, which live in a symbiotic relationship with the host in normal conditions. It has been shown that a dysfunctional interaction between the intestinal microbiota and the host immune system, known as dysbiosis, is a very important factor responsible for the development of different inflammatory conditions of the GIT, such as the idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), a complex and multifactorial disorder of the GIT. Dysbiosis has also been implicated in the pathogenesis of other GIT inflammatory diseases such as mucositis usually caused as an adverse effect of chemotherapy. As both diseases have become a great clinical problem, many research groups have been focusing on developing new strategies for the treatment of IBD and mucositis. In this review, we show that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been capable in preventing and treating both disorders in animal models, suggesting they may be ready for clinical trials. In addition, we present the most current studies on the use of wild type or genetically engineered LAB strains designed to express anti-inflammatory proteins as a promising strategy in the treatment of IBD and mucositis.

Aqueous extract of macerated Vochysia rufa stem bark has been commonly used in the treatment of diabetes. Therefore, we evaluated the antihyperglycemic and antioxidant effects of an extract of V. rufa on the pancreata of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Animals received one of the following treatments daily by oral gavage: water (diabetic-control), V. rufa extract (diabetic-V. rufa), or glibenclamide (diabetic-GBD). Total antioxidant capacity; levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, reduced glutathione, and sulfhydryls; and superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities were measured in the pancreas. Biochemical analysis of serum total cholesterol and fractions, triglycerides, creatinine, urea, acid uric, ALP, γ-GT, AST, and ALT was performed, and pancreatic β-cells positive for insulin were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Rats treated with extract exhibited a decrease in fasting blood glucose compared with levels in diabetic control rats. GPx activity and sulfhydryl levels were significantly lower in diabetic-V. rufa rats compared with those of diabetic-control rats. V. rufa extract acted to normalize the biochemical alterations found in diabetic rats (diabetic-controls), as demonstrated by increases in urea, HDL, ALP, AST, and ALT. Reduction in blood glucose was independent of an increase in insulin. The V. rufa extract was found to be composed of free sugars (inositol, galactose, glucose, mannose, sucrose, arabinose, and ribose) as the main metabolites. Thus, aqueous extract of the stem bark of V. rufa is capable of reducing blood glucose, resulting in an antioxidant effect on the pancreatic tissue of STZ-diabetic rats.

O objetivo desta pesquisa é desvendar como, no cenário do remo, foram reorganizadas as fronteiras identitárias com a fundação do Club de Regatas Almirante Barroso, nas duas primeiras décadas do século XX. Para a efetivação deste estudo histórico foram utilizados principalmente os jornais porto-alegrenses que circulavam no período. A fundação do Club Barroso modificou o cenário do remo em Porto Alegre, no início do século XX. Até então, os demais clubes de remo demarcavam fronteiras identitárias entre teuto-brasileiros e luso-brasileiros. O Club Barroso, diferentemente, congregou estes grupos de imigrantes e seus descendentes para a prática do esporte no Lago Guaíba. As fontes revelaram que esse clube de remo foi o primeiro da cidade a agrupar representações de identidades culturais luso-brasileiras e teuto-brasileiras.

Leishmaniasis and Chagas are diseases caused by parasitic protozoans that affect the poorest population in the World, causing a high mortality and morbidity. As a result of highly toxic and long-term treatments, the discovery of novel, safe and more efficacious drugs is essential. In this work, the in vitro antiparasitic activity and mammalian cytotoxicity of three natural tirucallane triterpenoids, isolated from leaves of Schinus terebinthifolius (Anacardiaceae), and nine semi-synthetic derivatives were investigated against Leishmania (L.) infantum and Trypanosoma cruzi. Trypomastigotes of T. cruzi were the most susceptible parasites and seven compounds demonstrated a trypanocidal activity with IC50 values in the range between 15 and 58 µg/mL. Four compounds demonstrated selectivity towards the intracellular amastigotes of Leishmania, with IC50 values in the range between 28 and 97 µg/mL. The complete characterization of triterpenoids was afforded after thorough analysis of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data as well as electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Additionally, structure-activity relationships were performed using Decision Trees.

The seasonal chemical composition of essential oils from Inga laurina was determined by GC/MS. In the stem bark’s essential oil extracted during the dry season, the presence of terpenoids (30.05%) stood out, and phytol (9.76%) was the major compound identified. For the stem bark oil obtained during the rainy season, in addition to terpenoids (26.63%), a large amount of fatty acids (46.84%) were identified, in particular palmitic acid (25.40%). Regarding the leaves’ essential oil obtained in the dry season, esters (42.35%) were the main components. The main ester present was (Z)-hex-3-enyl benzoate (10.15%) and the major compound of this oil was (Z)-hex-3-en-1-ol (14.23%). Terpenoids (33.84%), long-chain alkanes (27.04%) and fatty acids (21.72%) were the main components of the essential oil from leaves in the rainy season. Phytol (33.21%), nonacosane (21.95%) and palmitic acid (15.20%) were the major compounds identified. The antimicrobial activity against aerobic and anaerobic oral bacteria was evaluated by the microdilution broth method and cytotoxic activity was carried out with Vero cells. The essential oils from the rainy season showed a better inhibition of the bacterial growth with Minimal Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) values of 25 or 50 µg·mL−1 for aerobic bacteria, and high selectivity against bacteria was observed. The large amount of fatty acids in rainy season oils may be related to the better inhibitory effects observed.

Os grandes projetos urbanos são apresentados como estratégias de desenvolvimento econômico e social. O objetivo desse trabalho é estudar as experiências de São Paulo e do Rio de Janeiro para mostrar os limites, os custos e as potencialidades dessas estratégias. A investigação mostrou que os resultados obtidos não alcançaram os objetivos desejados pelos defensores dos grandes projetos. As populações socialmente vulneráveis atingidas pelos projetos tiveram perdas. Essas experiências serviram para apontar elementos cruciais que devem ser analisados em projetos importantes em curso no Brasil, especialmente a Copa do Mundo e os Jogos Olímpicos.

The chemical composition of the essential oils from leaves, bark and wood of Cassia bakeriana Craib. was determined by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Alcohols, aldehydes and fatty acids were the major components in leaf and bark oil, while wood essential oil was rich in fatty acids. Terpenes such as linalool, (E)-nerolidol and phytol were present in low concentrations. The antimicrobial activity against aerobic and anaerobic oral bacteria was evaluated using the microdilution method, as was the cell viability test carried out with Vero cells. The oils from leaves and bark showed high antimicrobial activity, with minimum inhibitory concentrations between 62.5 and 125 µg·mL−1 for most of the tested bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans, the main etiological agent of dental caries. Leaves oil displayed the lowest cytotoxic effect (EC50 of 153 µg·mL−1), while wood oil exhibited the highest toxicity to Vero cells. C. bakeriana oils are thus a source of biologically active compounds against aerobic and anaerobic oral microorganisms. This study is the first report on the chemical composition, antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity of C. bakeriana.

Neste novo milênio deparamo-nos com um mundo de transformações tecnológicas, com a impessoal globalização de mercados e com a (cada vez maior) velocidade de informação. O desporto, visto pela ótica da educação, tem a possibilidade de registrar experiências que marcam a formação do homem. Este estudo objetivou revelar os princípios da aretê (excelência) e da paideia que se encontram presentes no discurso de atletas (futebol), e aproveitamos para refletir sobre a possibilidade de o desporto se habilitar como agente pedagógico na promoção de uma cultura em valores. Participaram desse estudo atletas de futebol, do sexo masculino (jovens: 13 a 18 anos), do Sporting Clube de Braga. Utilizamos entrevistas semiestruturadas e análise de conteúdo, e a partir das respostas construímos um texto baseado na hermenêutica filosófica. Os resultados registraram um alto teor dos valores da aretê e da paideia.

The Tonian Cariris Velhos event was studied in the area around Afogados da Ingazeira town, Pernambuco State,Northeast Brazil, which is situated within the Alto Pajeú terrane, a Tonian-Ediacaran composite domain of the BorboremaProvince. The exposed rocks belong to the São Caetano Complex, which is formed of biotite-muscovite paragneisses andquartz-feldspathic gneisses, derived from arkosic or felsic volcanic protoliths, with marble and quartzite intercalations. Thedeformation started with a D1/D2 thrusting episode, when metamorphism ranged from greenschist to amphibolite facies,and was accompanied by emplacement of orthogneiss sheets. The subsequent episode, the D3 phase, had an extensionalcharacter and was marked by intrusion of small metadiorite dikes, which were strongly transposed by the D4 phase, a newepisode of transcurrent deformation. The main structure of the D4 phase is the Afogados da Ingazeira shear zone (ZCAI), migmawhichEdiacaran age was well constrained by the associated Solidão granite, dating from 574 ± 54 Ma. A geochemical study of themetasedimentary rocks shows that the protoliths of the paragneisses located in the southeastern part of the ZCAI are greywackes,whereas those of the northwestern part are greywackes, lithic sandstones and arkoses, although the REE patterns of these samplesnormalized to NASC (North American Shale Composite) show minor differences between them. These metasedimentary rocks havegeochemical signatures and patterns of synorogenic sediments compatible with island and continental arc sources. The geochemicalpatterns of the orthogneisses are also consistent with a magmatic arc environment, the same conclusion reached by other authors withrespect to the metavolcanic rocks of the Alto Pajeú terrane. The occurrence of the pre-transcurrent D3 extensional episode suggests that the D1/D2 thrusting deformation and associated metamorphism may be related to orogenic processes, pointing to the existence of theCariris Velhos orogeny.

A Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos (Lei Federal nº 12.305 /2010) proíbe a disposição de resíduos sólidos em lixões. Diante desse novo desafio, torna-se necessário que o governos (federais, estaduais e municipais) realizem uma análise do impacto econômico dessa medida sobre as finanças públicas e crie alternativas para reduzir o custo da disposição desses resíduos de forma adequada. Partindo desse pressuposto, o analisa-se o custo da disposição em aterros sanitários no país e seu impacto no Produto Interno Bruto de cada município com posterior modelagem matemática e aplicação dos resultados em sistema de informações geográficas. Como conclusão, é demonstrada a inviabilidade econômica de se adotar aterros individuais e quais as regiões que necessitam de maior apoio governamental para adotar as soluções exigidas pela nova política.

The Physical Education School of UFRGS’ Extension Karate Course is freely offered to academic community since 2008 on Bugre Lucena Gymnasium. The pillars that fundaments the course proposal are Transdisciplinarity, Complexity and the Pedagogy of Autonomy, revisited under the Science on Consciousness , proposed by preeminent authors on the last years. This experience report presents the course proposal and the participants group sensibilities on the two first editions of Extension Karate Course. The declarations and observations made, appoints benefits on the general health state, considering the corporal, mental, vital, social, cultural, environmental and spiritual aspects of the participants.

O presente trabalho teve como propósito estudar a sindicalização dos profissionais de Educação Física e suas particularidades a partir da legislação brasileira e da ótica do direito do trabalho. O método de pesquisa utilizado foi a pesquisa bibliográfica e a redação seguiu o método dedutivo onde partimos de questões gerais sobre o sindicalismo e a Educação Física até culminar com as questões mais específicas sobre a sindicalização dos profissionais de Educação Física. A partir de uma intensa pesquisa bibliográfica trouxemos uma contextualização histórica da Educação Física e histórica e jurídica do sindicalismo. Em relação ao tema da sindicalização dos profissionais de Educação Física abordamos os conceitos de categoria e os campos de atuação profissional. Finalmente, concluímos que os Profissionais de Educação Física constituem uma Categoria Profissional Diferenciada para fins sindicais.

Este trabalho buscou demonstrar a convergência de princípios existente entre as políticas de mercado de trabalho e de gestão urbana, destacando sua associação com as teorias pró-mercado. O passo seguinte foi investigar os limites e possibilidades da aplicação desse referencial teórico através do exame das mudanças ocorridas na composição e no estoque de empregos de três importantes espaços de negócios do município de São Paulo: a área Central, a Avenida Paulista e a nova frente de expansão nas imediações das avenidas Luiz Carlos Berrini e Águas Espraiadas. As informações fornecidas pelo Ministério do Trabalho (RAIS) mostraram que, entre 1996 e 2000, diferentemente do defendido pelos teóricos pró-mercado, o crescimento esperado deu lugar a um rearranjo do contingente de empregados entre as três áreas investigadas. O comportamento favorável registrado no eixo Berrini/Águas Espraiadas -derivado do vultoso volume de investimentos- se fez ao lado do decréscimo do emprego no Centro, enquanto na Paulista, a despeito do patamar menos elevado de investimentos, registrou-se também crescimento do número de empregadosThis paper attempts to show the convergence of principles between labor market politics and urban management, emphasizing it relationship with pro-market theories. Limits and possibilities of the application of this theoretical frame were investigated by examining the changes in both composition and stock of labor in three important business spaces in São Paulo: Central Area, Paulista Avenue and the new expansion front near Luiz Carlos Berrini and Águas Espraiadas avenues. Despite the claims of pro-market theoreticians, information provided by Labor Ministry showed that between 1996 and 2000, a re-arrangemenet of the workers contingent among the investigated areas occurred, instead of the expected growth. The favorable behavior registered in Berrini/Águas Espraiadas, because of the bulky volume of investments, took place at the same time that a decrease of labor in the Downtown; meanwhile, in Paulista, a growth of the number of employees was observed, in spite of the landing less elevated of investments

Atualmente tem crescido a busca por plantas como fontes naturais de antioxidantes. Plantas com esta propriedade podem ser utilizadas para melhorar a qualidade de alimentos, seja para fins nutritivos ou de conservação, como também para a prevenção de doenças relacionadas ao aparecimento de radicais livres. A Pereskia aculeata Mill. (Ora-pro-nóbis) é uma espécie da família Cactaceae e suas folhas são consumidas por muitas pessoas. Neste contexto, este trabalho estudou o teor de fenóis totais (método Folin-Ciocalteau) e de proantocianidinas (vanilina sulfúrica), correlacionando-os com a atividade antioxidante (radical DPPH, sistema ï¢-caroteno/ácido linoleico e voltametria por pulso diferencial) de extratos em acetona 80%, etanol 70% e água das folhas da espécie P. aculeata Mill., apresentando o extrato em acetona 80% maior teor de fenóis totais e proantocianidinas. Com relação à atividade antioxidante frente ao radical DPPH, o extrato em acetona 80% se apresentou ligeiramente melhor que o em etanol 70%. A técnica de voltametria por pulso diferencial mostrou que o extrato em acetona 80% apresenta constituintes com maior potencial redutor que o extrato em etanol 70%. Os dados obtidos a partir da voltametria corroboram com os resultados obtidos pelo método tradicional de DPPH. Os extratos em etanol 70% e em água apresentaram melhor atividade antioxidante pelo sistema B-caroteno/ácido linoleico, o que sugere a presença de outra classe de compostos que atuam na inibição do B-caroteno. Portanto, as folhas da espécie Pereskia aculeata podem ser consideradas como fonte potencial de compostos antioxidantes.

O evento Cariris Velhos foi investigado numa área em torno da cidade de Afogados da Ingazeira, Pernambuco, Nordeste do Brasil, situada no terreno Alto Pajeú, um domínio composto toniano-ediacarano da Província Borborema. Nesta área as rochas metassupracrustais do Complexo São Caetano são formadas por biotita-muscovita paragnaisses e gnaisses quartzo-feldspáticos, de protólito arcosiano ou vulcânico félsico, com intercalações de mármores e quartzitos. Sua história deformacional começou com um episódio tangencial D1/D2, cujo metamorfismo variou do fácies xisto verde ao anfibolito, sendo marcado pela intrusão de sheets de ortognaisses. O episódio subsequente D3, de caráter extensional foi marcado pela injeção de diques de metadioritos, os quais foram fortemente transpostos pelo episódio posterior D4, de natureza transcorrente. A principal estrutura deste episódio transcorrente é a zona de cisalhamento de Afogados da Ingazeira (ZCAI), cuja idade ediacarana é bem calibrada pela intrusão contemporânea do granito de Solidão, datado em 574 ± 74 Ma. Um estudo geoquímico das rochas metassedimentares indica que os protólitos do bloco SE da ZCAI são grauvacas, enquanto que os do bloco NW representam grauvacas, litoarenitos e arcóseos, mas o padrão de terras raras normalizado para o NASC (North American Shale Composite) não mostra grandes diferenças composicionais entre elas. Possuem assinatura geoquímica de sedimentação sinorogênica, transicionando entre sedimentos derivados de arcos de ilhas oceânicos a continentais. Os padrões geoquímicos dos ortognaisses também são indicativos de ambiente de arco magmático, confirmando conclusões encontradas por outros autores no estudo das rochas metavulcânicas do terreno Alto Pajeú. A descoberta do evento extensional D3 pré-transcorrência sugere que a deformação tangencial D1/D2 e o metamorfismo associado devem estar relacionados a evento orogênico, o que confirmaria a existência da orogênese Cariris Velhos.

O trabalho mostra que a desigualdade é intrínseca ao funcionamento da economia e a heterogeneidade do mercado de trabalho. O estudo tem como objetivo refutar a análise difundida nos manuais de economia, nos quais o funcionamento do mercado de trabalho equilibra os interesses dos compradores e vendedores de força de trabalho. A desigualdade do mercado de trabalho é o resultado da dinâmica capitalista e esta desigualdade está presente em todas as suas dimensões: nos setores econômicos e no território.

The degradation of water resources available for human consumption is increasing with the continuous release of chemicals into aquatic environments and their inefficient removal in wastewater treatment. Several watersheds in Brazil, such as the Iguaçu River, are affected by multiple sources of pollution and lack information about their pollution status. The Iguaçu River basin (IRB) has great socioeconomic and environmental relevance to both the supply of water resources and its considerable hydroelectric potential, as well as for the high rate of endemism of its ichthyofauna. Also, the IRB is home to large conservation units, such as the Iguaçu National Park, recognized by UNESCO as a natural World Heritage Site. Thus, this article discusses the chemical pollution in the IRB approaching: (i) the main sources of pollution; (ii) the occurrence of inorganic and organic micropollutants; (iii) the available ecotoxicological data; and (iv) the socioeconomic impacts in three regions of the upper, middle, and lower IRB. Different studies have reported relevant levels of emerging contaminants, persistent organic pollutants, toxic metals, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons detected in the water and sediment samples, especially in the upper IRB region, associated with domestic and industrial effluents. Additionally, significant concentrations of pesticides and toxic metals were also detected in the lower IRB, revealing that agricultural practices are also relevant sources of chemicals for this watershed. More recently, studies indicated an association between fish pathologies and the detection of micropollutants in the water and sediments in the IRB. The identification of the main sources of pollutants, associated with the distribution of hazardous chemicals in the IRB, and their potential effects on the biota, as described in this review, represent an important strategy to support water management by public authorities for reducing risks to the local endemic biodiversity and exposed human populations.
