The socialist press published in Spain from the end of the 19th century to the 1930s needs a renewal of its study. A renewal that must transcend the limits of the history of the labor movement and its organizations. The cultural magazines edited by the socialists of Madrid from the 1890s onwards lend themselves to a revealing reinterpretation from the perspective of intellectual history. Therefore, the objective of this article is to interpret the publication of the weekly Vida Socialista (1910-1914) as an unknown enterprise of the Generation of 1914. Hypothesis that we seek to validate through the analysis of its content and its collaborators. The magazine, directed by Tomás Álvarez Angulo and Juan A. Meliá, was also one of the main press organs of the PSOE during the period of the Republican Socialist Coalition.

Abstract Cloud computing is an evolving paradigm whose adoption has been increasing over the last few years. This fact has led to the growth of the cloud computing market, together with fierce competition for the leading market share, with an increase in the number of cloud service providers. Novel techniques are continuously being proposed to increase the cloud service provider’s profitability. However, only those techniques that are proven not to hinder the service agreements are considered for production clouds. Analysing the expected behaviour and performance of the cloud infrastructure is challenging, as the repeatability and reproducibility of experiments on these systems are made difficult by the large number of users concurrently accessing the infrastructure. To this, must be added the complications of using different provisioning policies, managing several workloads, and applying different resource configurations. Therefore, in order to alleviate these issues, we present Simcan2Cloud, a discrete-event-based simulator for modelling and simulating cloud computing environments. Simcan2Cloud focuses on modelling and simulating the behaviour of the cloud provider with a high level of detail, where both the cloud infrastructure and the interactions of the users with the cloud are integrated in the simulated scenarios. For this purpose, Simcan2Cloud supports different resource allocation policies, service level agreements (SLAs), and an intuitive and complete API for including new management policies. Finally, a thorough experimental study to measure the suitability and applicability of Simcan2Cloud, using both real-world traces and synthetic workloads, is presented.

Abstract The Earth’s magnetic field originated in the fluid core, the so-called core field, is the dominant contribution to the geomagnetic field. Since ancient times, the core geomagnetic field has been used primarily for geographical orientation and navigation by means of compasses. Nowadays, thanks to the large amount of geomagnetic data available, core field models can be developed on a global or regional scale. Global models resolve large-scale geomagnetic field features, while regional models can resolve greater detail over a particular region. The spherical harmonic cap analysis is a widely used technique for regional-scale modelling of the geomagnetic field. In this work we have developed a regional model of the core field and its secular variation between 2014.5 and 2020.5 over the Iberian Peninsula, based on data from Swarm satellites, geomagnetic observatories and repeat stations. Its performance has been validated by comparing the fit to the available geomagnetic data using the regional model and the global models IGRF and CHAOS over the whole spatio-temporal range studied. In order to optimise the model, a detailed study of its input parameters has been carried out, showing that not all parameters have an equal influence on the modelling. This new model reproduces the input data with a root mean square error of 2.9 nT, improving the outcome of global models on this region. The results of this work will allow the Spanish Instituto Geográfico Nacional to produce the magnetic cartography of Iberia and the Balearic Islands in 2020.0, which for the first time will be based on a regional core field model, replacing the polynomial variation method used in the past. La oferta académica de postgrado en Biotecnología de las Instituciones de Educación Superior dominicanas es aún insuficiente. Resulta necesario hacer un análisis de las competencias que deben ser contempladas para el diseño curricular de postgrado en Biotecnología en República Dominicana. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo de corte transversal mediante entrevistas a 30 expertos dominicanos de la Biotecnología, mediante un cuestionario de 45 competencias y habilidades, cuyos resultados se compararon con las competencias y habilidades requeridas en Estados Unidos y Reino Unido. Se propone un marco de referencia de competencias, habilidades técnicas y otras habilidades que no difiere sustancialmente de las prioridades que se otorgan en esos países. Se identificaron competencias y habilidades que se complementan con el desarrollo actual de la Biotecnología (Bioinformática y Telemedicina). Las competencias en habilidades de negocios del sector biotecnológico es un campo emergente a ser considerado en el diseño curricular.

Background: Information on the hours of work of UK doctors is limited, and what exists relies on self-designed questionnaires in England. Aim: To understand trends in the annual stock of physicians’ hours and their main determinants. Design & setting: A quantitative study in which data were collected from the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) between 1998 and 2020, under the End User Licence (EUL), in the UK. Method: Descriptive and linear regression models of labour supply for doctors (pooled), GPs, and hospital doctors. Results: Between 1998 and 2020, while the headcount of doctors grew by 128.79% for hospital doctors and 45.28% for GPs, hours of work dropped by 20.80% for hospital doctors and 25.37% for GPs. Hence, the annual stock of hours grew by 81.20% for hospital doctors but by a modest 8.42% for GPs. Female doctors worked 8.68 fewer hours than males, with GPs reporting the largest reduction (–11.82 hours, 95% confidence interval [CI] = –13.31 to –10.33 and –6.75, 95% CI = –9.32 to –4.19, in the full specification). Family decisions are associated with a fall in doctors’ work hours and modest growth in the annual stock of hours. These determinants and overtime are drivers of part-time work. Conclusion: Despite the increase in the headcount of GPs, their hours of work dropped over the study period, generating a more steady and modest growth in their total annual stock of hours compared with hospital doctors. Female GPs work fewer hours than male GPs and are more likely to work part-time due to childbearing, marriage/co-habitation, and overtime work.

ABSTRACT Introduction and objectives: There is scarce information available on the long-term outcomes of primary angioplasty (PA) in patients over 80 years of age. Our objective was to analyze the characteristics and results of PA in these patients and recognize the prognostic factors and long-term survival. Methods: Observational and retrospective single-center study of consecutive patients over 80 years of age treated with PA between January 2013 and September 2019. A long-term clinical follow-up was performed (mean follow-up of 29 ± 25 months). Results: The study included 133 patients (mean age 85.3 ± 3.8 years and 57 women [43%]). Seventeen percent of the patients were in Killip class III-IV at admission. The mean Charlson Comorbidity index was 2.3 ± 1.6. During the hospitalization, almost half of the patients developed heart failure and mortality rate was 18%. The overall mortality rate at the follow-up was 23%, yet 97.2% of the deaths were due to non-cardiac causes. The independent predictors of overall mortality at the follow-up were chronic kidney disease (HR, 5.7; 95%CI, 1.29-25.5; P = .022), and a Charlson Comorbidity index > 2 (HR, 2.57; 95%CI, 1.07-6.18; P = .035). La fractura del cuerpo del astrágalo es un cuadro extremadamente raro en la población infantil, y se asocia con mecanismos de alta energía. Se trata de una lesión muy grave y tiene un manejo complejo para el cirujano ortopedista, no exento de complicaciones, como la necrosis avascular, la artrosis postraumática o la seudoartrosis. Presentamos a un niño de 10 años con una fractura-luxación del cuerpo del astrágalo, su manejo de urgencia, el tratamiento definitivo y la evaluación clínico-radiológica al año de la lesión. Cloud computing has emerged as a cutting-edge technology which is widely used by both private and public institutions, since it eliminates the capital expense of buying, maintaining, and setting up both hardware and software. Clients pay for the services they use, under the so-called Service Level Agreements (SLAs), which are the contracts that establish the terms and costs of the services. In this paper, we propose the CloudCost UML profile, which allows the modeling of cloud architectures and the users’ behavior when they interact with the cloud to request resources. We then investigate how to increase the profits of cloud infrastructures by using price schemes. For this purpose, we distinguish between two types of users in the SLAs: regular and high-priority users. Regular users do not require a continuous service, so they can wait to be attended to. In contrast, high-priority users require a constant and immediate service, so they pay a greater price for their services. In addition, a computer-aided design tool, called MSCC (Modeling SLAs Cost Cloud), has been implemented to support the CloudCost profile, which enables the creation of specific cloud scenarios, as well as their edition and validation. Finally, we present a complete case study to illustrate the applicability of the CloudCost profile, thus making it possible to draw conclusions about how to increase the profits of the cloud infrastructures studied by adjusting the different cloud parameters and the resource configuration.

Currently, security breaches in public places like airports and official buildings are a major concern by both governmental and corporative organizations. In these situations, X-ray devices must scan a vast amount of baggage in a short time frame. Hence, deploying scanners that automatize the task of detecting suspicious artefacts becomes of vital importance to prevent from threats. In this paper we present FORTIFIER, a formal distributed framework designed to detect suspicious artefacts. This approach consists in the integration of several image detection algorithms executed in a distributed environment, which are aimed to detect a wide spectrum of weapons like guns, knifes and bombs. The main core of our proposed framework for recognizing suspicious artefacts is divided in different phases, where each one is modelled with a specific finite state machine (FSM). Several FSMs are combined to detect different artefacts. We also present a case of study where some performance experiments are carried out for analysing the scalability of FORTIFIER. Initially, FORTIFIER is deployed in a single cloud environment. Once the main features that have a significant impact on the overall system performance are analysed, our proposed framework is deployed in a multi-cloud environment.

Se realizó una investigación descriptiva, retrospectiva y transversal de los 20 alumnos pertenecientes al segundo año de la carrera de medicina en el Policlínico Universitario "Josué País García" de Santiago de Cuba, durante el curso escolar 2011-2012, para determinar el índice de satisfacción percibida en ellos a través de una encuesta (instrumento evaluativo) y así evaluar el impacto del proceso docente educativo en la disciplina Morfofisiología VI. Los resultados fueron positivos en cuanto al cumplimiento de las consultas docentes y la atención a los estudiantes con dificultades académicas de forma diferenciada; sin embargo, el impacto fue negativo en los indicadores: asistencia a las actividades docentes, calificación final de 4 y 5 en todas las asignaturas, incorporación a las actividades científicas, participación en exámenes de premio y en los encuentros de conocimientos. Se constató que la aplicación de instrumentos evaluativos al finalizar cada período de enseñanza, es útil para controlar y comparar los avances del proceso docente educativo y detectar las debilidades y fortalezas existentes en este, de modo que se actúe en consecuencia.A descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study was carried out in 20 medical students from the second year in "Josué País García" University Polyclinic of Santiago de Cuba during 2011-2012, to determine the level of satisfaction perceived in them through a survey (evaluation tool) to evaluate the impact of the educational process on the subject Morphophysiology VI. The results were positive in relation to the performance of the teaching practices and differential attention to students with academic difficulties, but the impact was negative on the indicators: attendance at educational activities, marks 4 and 5 in all subjects, participation in scientific activities, extracredit exams and skills competitions. It was found that the application of evaluation tools after each teaching period is useful to control and compare progress of the educational process and identify existing strengths and weaknesses in this process, so as to act accordingly.

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo de 16 niños diagnosticados con anemia, pertenecientes al Policlínico Universitario "Josué País García" de Santiago de Cuba, desde diciembre de 2011 hasta febrero de 2012, a fin de caracterizar los lactantes menores de 1 año con anemia ferropénica. Entre las variables estudiadas figuraron: antecedentes prenatales, natales y posnatales, sexo, tipo de lactancia, clasificación de la anemia, así como enfermedades padecidas. En la serie primaron el sexo masculino, el grupo etario de 9-11 meses, las madres con anemia, la lactancia materna complementada, la anemia moderada y las infecciones respiratorias altas no complicadas.A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study of 16 children diagnosed with anemia, belonging to "Josué País García" University Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from December, 2011 to February, 2012, in order to characterize the infants under 1 year with iron-deficiency anemia. Among the studied variables there were: prenatal, natal posnatal history, sex, breastfeeding type, classification of the anemia, as well as suffered diseases. Male sex, the age group from 9-11 months, mothers with anemia, supplemented breastfeeding, moderate anemia and non-complicated high respiratory infections prevailed in the series.

Fundamento: la Bibliometría permitió que la visualización de las publicaciones de los profesionales del Hospital General Universitario ¨Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima¨. Cienfuegos, en una base de datos, tenga una interpretación que la relaciona con un mapa del conocimiento. Objetivo: caracterizar cómo se comportó la producción científica del Hospital General Universitario de Cienfuegos, contenida en la base de datos que actualiza su Centro de Información. Método: estudio bibliométrico, descriptivo, realizado en la base de datos que contiene las publicaciones hechas por sus profesionales, tanto en Cuba como en el extranjero, y que abarcó el período comprendido entre enero de 2004 y septiembre de 2009. Las variables que se estudiaron fueron: número de artículos por autores, número de artículos por especialidades, idioma de los artículos, tipología, producción por año, y lugar de publicación. Resultados: el mayor número de publicaciones se realizó en la revista electrónica Medisur, de manera predominante en idioma español, aunque existe una cantidad apreciable de publicaciones en inglés, hechas en la revista British Medical Journal. Las especialidades más prolíficas fueron: Medicina Interna, Medicina Intensiva, y Cardiología. La tipología de los trabajos se caracterizó por un mayor número de trabajos originales. Conclusiones: a los médicos perteneció el mayor número de publicaciones, liderado por el grupo de autores aspirantes (2 a 4 trabajos). La revista electrónica Medisur fue el lugar donde más se publicó. Los autores clasificados como grandes productores (17,2 autor/artículo como promedio) conceden una gran importancia al idioma inglés.

After more than ten years of human research in the field of cardiac regenerative medicine, application of stem cells in different phases of ischemic heart disease has come to age. Randomized clinical trials have demonstrated that stem cell therapy can improve cardiac recovery after the acute phase of myocardial ischemia and in patients with chronic ischemic heart disease, and several efficacy phase III trials with clinical endpoints are on their way. Nevertheless, a complete knowledge on the mechanisms of action of stem cells still remains elusive. Of the three main mechanisms by which stem cells could exert their benefit, paracrine signaling from the administered cells and stimulation of endogenous repair are nowadays the most plausible ones. However, in this review we will define and discuss the concept of stem cell potency and differentiation, will examine the evidence available, and will depict future directions of research.

This paper presents a finite-difference-based method for numerically deriving the D Q impedance model of power electronics-based power systems, specifically tailored for stability analysis. The proposed method offers a computationally efficient alternative to traditional approaches by directly applying finite-difference approximations to the large-signal dynamic system, without relying on repetitive time-domain simulations or small-signal analytical models. This method eliminates the need for additional models or complex procedures to compute the steady-state solution, streamlining the impedance modeling process. The accuracy, efficiency, and precision of the proposed method are evaluated through comparative studies with analytical and time-domain perturbation methods. Results demonstrate that the proposed approach provides accuracy comparable to analytical models while significantly reducing computational effort, outperforming perturbation methods in both speed and precision. These findings highlight the practical value of the proposed method for real-time and large-scale system analysis, making it a robust tool for power systems stability assessment. En la región de Peralonso, Ortega, Tolima, se llevó a cabo un programa de prospección geoquímica detallada, en el cual se tomaron 518 muestras de sedimentos activos fracción fina y 159 muestras de roca en un área de 500 km2, con el propósito de conocer el potencial de una anomalía de Cu, Pb y Mo encontrada durante el programa de Cartografía Geológica y Geoquímica Regional del Cuadrángulo L-8. La unidad litológica predominante en el área forma parte del Batolito de lbagué, el cual intruye las rocas metamórficas del Grupo Cajamarca. Rocas sedimentarias de la Formación Luisa y volcánicas sedimentarias de la Formación Saldaña aparecen como pequeños afloramientos en la región. La Falla Samaria-Colorada pone en contacto al Batolito de Ibagué con el Grupo Honda y es el rasgo estructural más importante. Para la interpretación geoquímica se escogieron como elementos indicadores el Fe, Mg, Ti, Cu, Mo, Pb, Ba y Sr, tanto en los sedimentos activos como en las rocas y se calcularon para cada elemento los valores normal y umbral por método gráfico. A partir de estos gráficos se elaboró un mapa con la distribución geoquímica del elemento, con el propósito de conocer patrones, controles y comportamientos geoquímicos en el área. En la región de Peralonso los elementos sometidos a interpretación tienen un aumento progresivo en los valores en dirección este a oeste, reconocido tanto en los sedimentos activos como en las rocas. Los contenidos altos de Cu, Pb y Mo se presentan en el Batolito de Ibagué, al oeste del área, y los bajos en el Grupo de Cajamarca y en el borde oriental del área. Al superponer el mapa geológico de la región de Peralonso al mapa geoquímico de cada uno de los elementos estudiados se encontraron varias áreas con asociaciones de elementos mayores y menores en contenidos altos, reflejo de alguna característica litológica. En la franja oriental del Batolito de lbagué que aflora en el área, se detectaron preferencialmente valores altos de Ba y Ti en la geoquímica de sedimentos activos finos y rocas, y una facies relativamente ácida del plutón (granodiorita, cuarzomonzonita y diques de feldespato potásico y cuarzo) en la petrografía. En las rocas metamórficas del Grupo Cajamarca se delimitaron dos asociaciones principales de elementos (Mo y Pb, como elementos constantes; Ba y Mg, variables) en los sedimentos activos fracción fina y una asociación compuesta por Cu y Pb en las rocas. En el sector oeste del área se distinguieron varias asociaciones geoquímicas integradas principalmente por Fe, Mg, Cu, Pb y Mo. Los contenidos altos en minerales ferromagnesianos (biotita y hornblenda) así como también de magnetita diseminada fue la característica petrográfica primordial encontrada para este sector del batolito. Este factor fue tomado como base para considerar la anomalía de cobre y molibdeno de la región de Peralonso como una anomalía litológica y el batolito como un intrusivo no mineralizado.
