Ante la problemática de diversas violencias que las familias están sufriendo, una de ellas es la desaparición de sus seres queridos, su posterior búsqueda y su posible hallazgo, este último generalmente es sin vida. El proceso de recuperación e identificación pasa por distintas fases en las que es necesario un trabajo y enfoque de tipo interdisciplinario, donde la antropología forense y social puede coadyuvar para aligerar el proceso y potencializar el éxito de la identificación; esto se hace principalmente ayudado de la entrevista ante-mortem. En este trabajo se demuestra la importancia de las técnicas etnográficas y sociales para un mejor acercamiento con las familias, establecer un lazo de empatía y confianza, y un mejor análisis de contexto. Asimismo, hace evidente la necesidad de un cambio en el pensamiento del antropólogo forense al dejar de ver a los restos de los cuerpos sin vida, como simple objetos de estudio para volverlos sujetos sociales que pueden ser fuente de información biológica, social e histórica.
