Abstract

The textual tradition of the Slavic Gospels shows clear evidence of reciprocal influence between the liturgical version and the continuous text. The present survey analyzes 17 ‘textual nodes’ of the Gospel of John, i.e. segments of the text for which the variants of 126 Greek lectionaries from the 8th-11th century have been collected. This analysis aims to shed light on a scarcely studied aspect of Slavic textual history, thus completing the picture outlined in previous works of the author, which were focused on the relationship with the tradition of Greek Tetraevangelia.

Abstract

Simple Summary: This work provides an overview on the impact of bats' diet on their intestinal microorganism community and its influence on potential pathogenicity. Human expansion generates natural habitat alterations, which force bats to seek alternative sites, leading to contact with other animals, including humans. Exploring the relationship between the dietary habits of bats and the variety of their microbiome could contribute elucidating the potential role of bats as reservoirs of multidrug-resistant microorganisms and their implications in the dissemination of mutating viruses and antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the environment and possibly in their transmission to human and to domestic and wild animals. In this review, we tentatively tried to connect the most recent findings on the bat microbiome and to investigate on their microbial communities, that may vary even in conspecific hosts and are influenced by host physiology, feeding behavior and diet, social interactions, but also by habitat diversity and climate change. From a conservation perspective, understanding the potentially negative and indirect effects of habitat destruction on animal microbiota can also play a crucial role in the conservation and management of the host itself. According to the One Health concept, which recognizes an interdependence between humans, animals, and the environment, bat microbiota represents an indicator of host and environmental health, besides allowing for evaluation of the risk of emerging infectious diseases. We noticed that a growing number of studies suggest that animal microbiota may respond in various ways to changes in land use, particularly when such changes lead to altered or deficient food resources. We have highlighted that the current literature is strongly focused on the initial phase of investigating the microbial communities found in Chiroptera from various habitats. However, there are gaps in effectively assessing the impacts of pathogens and microbial communities in general in animal conservation, veterinary, and public health. A deeper understanding of bat microbiomes is paramount to the implementation of correct habitat and host management and to the development of effective surveillance protocols worldwide. Abstract

In its chronic and non-specific form, low back pain is experienced by a large percentage of the population; its persistence impacts the quality of life and increases costs to the health care system. In recent years, the scientific literature highlights how treatment based on assessment and functional recovery is effective through IMU technology with biofeedback or exergaming as part of the tools available to assist the evaluation and treatment of these patients, who present not only with symptoms affecting the lumbar spine but often also incorrect postural attitudes. Aim: Evaluate the impact of technology, based on inertial sensors with biofeedback or exergaming, in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain. A systematic review of clinical studies obtained from PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases from 1 January 2016 to 1 July 2024 was conducted, developing the search string based on keywords and combinations of terms with Boolean AND/OR operators; on the retrieved articles were applied inclusion and exclusion criteria. The procedure of publication selection will be represented with the PRISMA diagram, the risk of bias through the RoB scale 2, and methodological validity with the PEDro scale. Eleven articles were included, all RCTs, and most of the publications use technology with exergaming within about 1–2 months. Of the outcomes measured, improvements were reported in pain, disability, and increased function; the neuropsychological sphere related to experiencing the pathology underwent improvements. From the results obtained, the efficacy of using technology based on exergames and inertial sensors, in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain, was increased. Further clinical studies are required to achieve more uniformity in the proposed treatment to create a common guideline for health care providers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The long reign of Ivan Aleksandăr (1331-1371), the penultimate emperor of Bulgaria prior to the Turkish conquest, was marked by a series of successful military campaigns against Serbia and Byzantium and above all by an intensive cultural production, largely fostered and funded by the sovereign himself. The central decades of the fourteenth century were of crucial importance for the later cultural evolution of Bulgaria and the whole of Orthodox Slovenia, despite which to date ample and exhaustive studies on the figure of Ivan Aleksandăr are lacking. There is, in effect, a considerable amount of information at disposal, although it is scattered over the literary sources, the colophons of the manuscripts, the epigraphic documentation and also, obviously, the official deeds promulgated by the Emperor. Through the analysis of this varied documentation, this book attempts to reconstruct the figure of the sovereign, the context in which he lived and worked, his greatness and his mistakes and his parallel activities as a strategist and an illuminated patron of the arts. For the first time, the Italian reader can find collected and translated all the manuscript sources relating to the Bulgarian sovereign. The book is completed by an appendix with the original texts of the Slavonic-ecclesiastical tradition.

Abstract

This book contains the contributions of the Italian delegation to the XIV International Congress of Slavists (Ocrida, 10-16 September 2008). Divided into three macrosections (Philology and Linguistics; Literature, Culture and Folklore; History of Slavistics) the articles represent the main directions of current research in Slavic studies: from typological linguistics to palaeography, from the problems of intertextuality and multiculturalism to the history of literature, from historic poetics to the analysis of contemporary poetic texts. The book closes with two essays devoted to the reconstruction of several fundamental stages in the early years of Italian Slavistics and the Bibliography of Italian Slavistic production for the period 2003-2007 (edited by Gabriele Mazzitelli), providing eloquent evidence of the lively diffusion and complex ramification of these studies over recent years., Il volume racchiude i contributi della delegazione italiana al XIV Congresso Internazionale degli Slavisti (Ocrida, 10-16 Settembre 2008). «TRY TO MAKE FRIENDS AMONG THE BEST AND NOT AMONG THE WORST!». MAXIMUS THE GREEK AND THE LETTER OF PATRIARCH PHOTIOS TO PRINCE BORIS • The Greek text version of the Letter of Patriarch Photios to Prince Boris dates from the last years of the first patriarchate of Photios, (shortly before 867) and has come down to us in a number of codices, the oldest of which dates from the first half of the tenth century. The Church-Slavonic translation of the Letter, for its part, survives in fifteen Russian manuscripts, dated from the beginning of the sixteenth century onwards. There is no scholarly agreement on when, where and by whom the text was translated into Slavic. Several arguments have led some scholars to attribute the Slavic translation to Maximus the Greek, at the time of his stay in Muscovy. However, on the grounds of cultural-historical, linguistic and textual evidence, it can be argued that the Letter was translated in fourteenth-century Bulgaria, and then reviewed in sixteenth-century Muscovy (and Maximus the Greek is certainly the best candidate for such a task). This scenario is supported by the comparison of the evangelical verses quoted in the translation with the textual tradition of the Slavic gospels.

Abstract

LESSONS IN TRANSLATION. The essays in this volume focus on translation, analyzed as an intercultural process in which two different language-cultures concretely become one text, a texte de textes, whose semiotic substance derives precisely from this meeting-clash between them. Translation is here understood first and foremost as a concrete discursive practice and enunciative strategy, and secondly as a theory that tends to resemanticize the process in a cultural perspective: from concept to text, or rather from concepts to texts, as this field of research requires and as evidenced by the convergent perspective of analysis which lies behind the variety of methods and themes in this series of lessons, which range from the history of translation to self-translation, from verse and wordplay translations to the biography of translators. This convergence of perspective and intent is embodied in the didactic, less specialized, style of the articles, which are mainly addressed to a student readership, as implicit in the title of the series: Lessons in Translation.
