New five ciprofloxacin (CIP) complexes of dioxouranium(II), oxozirconium(II), zirconium(IV), oxovanadium(II) and vanadium(IV) in the proportion 1:2 have been prepared using CIP as a drug chelate with UO2(NO3)2. 6H2O, ZrOCl2. 8H2O, ZrCl4, VOSO4. xH2O and V2O5 respectively. The CIP complexes have been characterized based on the elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic, (FTIR & 1HNMR) spectral and thermal studies. The molar conductance studies of the synthesized complexes in DMSO solvent with concentration of 10–3 M indicate their non-electrolytic properties. At room temperature, the magnetic moment measurements revealed a diamagnetic behavior for all CIP prepared complexes. The different formulas of the new complexes can be represented as [UO2(CIP)2(NO3)2] (I), [VO(CIP)2(SO4)(H2O)] (II), [V2(O)(O2)2(CIP)2] (III), [Zr(O)(CIP)2(Cl)2] (IV), and [Zr(CIP)2(Cl)4] (V). The thermal analysis data of the complexes indicates the absence of coordinated water molecules except for vanadyl(II) complex (II). The CIP chelate is a uni-dentate ligand coordinated to the mentioned metal ion through terminal piperazinyl nitrogen. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) investigation confirms the nano-structured form of the complexes.

Herein, this article aimed to investigate the tendency of tris(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (THAM) to form stable complexes with group IIA metals. Four new colorless solid complexes of group IIA metals [Ba(II), Ca(II), Sr(II), and Mg(II)] with THAM were prepared and well characterized. The chemical reactions between-group IIA metals and THAM were conducted by the stoichiometry of 2:1 (Ligand: Metal ion) at 65 °C and pH of ~ 8.5. Under these conditions, the THAM molecule (C4H11NO3) was deprotonated and converted to the (C4H10NO3 - ; L-) chelate with the metal ions. The structures of these complexes were suggested by UV-visible, IR, Raman and 1 H NMR spectroscopies and other physicochemical and analytical methods (elemental analysis, thermogravimetry, and SEM). The results shows that the general composition of the complexes obtained with Ba(II), Ca(II), Sr(II), and Mg(II) ions are [BaL2(H2O)2], [CaL2 (H2O)2]·2H2O, [SrL2(H2O)2], and [MgL2(H2O)2]·4H2O, respectively, and in all complexes, the geometry was octahedral. The levels of 25 pesticide residues were evaluated in 20 samples of irrigation water, agricultural soil and edible parts of 60 vegetable samples collected from 5 farms around Riyadh district, Saudi Arabia. Estimated Average Daily Intake (EADI), Health Risk Index (HRI), Cumulative Hazard Index (CHI), and Hazard Ratio (HR) indices were assessed. Pesticide residues were not detected in water samples. In soil samples, 14 (56%) of pesticide residues exceeded their maximum residue limits (MRLs), only 2 (8%) pesticide residues were below MRLs. Results revealed that, leaves and roots of white radish samples collected from farm 2 exceeded MRLs levels of heptachlor residues (0.222 and 0.165 mg/kg) followed by endosulfan (0.123, 0.096 mg/kg). The recorded values of EADI for heptachlor for both adults and children (0.0019 and 0.0022) exceeded the recommended ADI (0.0025 and 0.0001 mg.kg−1.d−1). Health risk index values were found > 1 for adults and children. Besides, the carcinogenic health risk (HR > 1) in all vegetable samples contained heptachlor, aldrin, and heptachlor epoxide. The safety and security of different foodstuffs are considered important and have a high priority in global sustainable development. The contents of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Ni, Pb and Cd were estimated in edible parts of 60 vegetable samples, irrigation water and agricultural soil collected from 5 farms in suburban areas around Riyadh district, Saudi Arabia. Also, soil pollution indices, pollution load index and contamination factor (PLI, CF), bioaccumulation factor (BAF), non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk indices (HQ, THQ, and ILCR) were estimated. The content of heavy metals in irrigation water and soil was within the recommended permissible levels, except for Cd in soil, which exceeds permissible levels. The trend of metal concentrations in both agricultural soil and vegetables was found in the order: Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu > Ni > Pb > Cd. Cluster analysis of the metal content in vegetables showed a tendency towards the accumulation of heavy metals in the order of leaves > roots > fruits > flowers > tuber. The BAFs values found were < 1.0, HQs values for Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Ni were found to be < 1, while the estimated HQs for Pb and Cd were > 1, posing greater risk to the health of adults and children. THQ values were higher for children compared to adults. ILCR values for Cd showed a serious issue, as it exceeds the threshold risk limit (>10−4) in all parts of the investigated vegetables in all sampling sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
