Correction: Chemical Senses, Volume 46, 2021, bjab050, https://doi.org/10.1093/chemse/bjab050 Published: 08 December 2021 Recent anecdotal and scientific reports have provided evidence of a link between COVID-19 and chemosensory impairments, such as anosmia. However, these reports have downplayed or failed to distinguish potential effects on taste, ignored chemesthesis, and generally lacked quantitative measurements. Here, we report the development, implementation, and initial results of a multilingual, international questionnaire to assess self-reported quantity and quality of perception in 3 distinct chemosensory modalities (smell, taste, and chemesthesis) before and during COVID-19. In the first 11 days after questionnaire launch, 4039 participants (2913 women, 1118 men, and 8 others, aged 19-79) reported a COVID-19 diagnosis either via laboratory tests or clinical assessment. Importantly, smell, taste, and chemesthetic function were each significantly reduced compared to their status before the disease. Difference scores (maximum possible change +/- 100) revealed a mean reduction of smell (-79.7 +/- 28.7, mean +/- standard deviation), taste (-69.0 +/- 32.6), and chemesthetic (-37.3 +/- 36.2) function during COVID-19. Qualitative changes in olfactory ability (parosmia and phantosmia) were relatively rare and correlated with smell loss. Importantly, perceived nasal obstruction did not account for smell loss. Furthermore, chemosensory impairments were similar between participants in the laboratory test and clinical assessment groups. These results show that COVID-19-associated chemosensory impairment is not limited to smell but also affects taste and chemesthesis.The multimodal impact of COVID-19 and the lack of perceived nasal obstruction suggest that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus strain 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection may disrupt sensory-neural mechanisms.

- Abstract
Recent anecdotal and scientific reports have provided evidence of a link between COVID-19 and chemosensory impairments such as anosmia. However, these reports have downplayed or failed to distinguish potential effects on taste, ignored chemesthesis, generally lacked quantitative measurements, and were mostly restricted to data from single countries. Here, we report the development, implementation and initial results of a multi-lingual, international questionnaire to assess self-reported quantity and quality of perception in three distinct chemosensory modalities (smell, taste, and chemesthesis) before and during COVID-19. In the first 11 days after questionnaire launch, 4039 participants (2913 women, 1118 men, 8 other, ages 19-79) reported a COVID-19 diagnosis either via laboratory tests or clinical assessment. Importantly, smell, taste and chemesthetic function were each significantly reduced compared to their status before the disease. Difference scores (maximum possible change ±100) revealed a mean reduction of smell (-79.7±28.7, mean±SD), taste (-69.0±32.6), and chemesthetic (-37.3±36.2) function during COVID-19. Qualitative changes in olfactory ability (parosmia and phantosmia) were relatively rare and correlated with smell loss. Importantly, perceived nasal obstruction did not account for smell loss. Furthermore, chemosensory impairments were similar between participants in the laboratory test and clinical assessment groups. These results show that COVID-19-associated chemosensory impairment is not limited to smell, but also affects taste and chemesthesis. Bu fiiller cümleleri söyleyen kişinin inanç ve düşüncelerinin cümlelerin içine gizlendiği bir düzenek oluşturmak için kullanılmıştır. This thesis investigated the Theory of Mind (ability to infer mental states) in a verbal medium. In addition to that, some propositional attitude verbs that are used for providing such a medium are investigated semantically and pragmatically. Evaluated verbs were bil (know), düşün (think), and zannet (~falsely-believe). These verbs are used for creating a paradigm where speaker's beliefs are encoded in the utterance, and participants were expected to predict emotional responses to given situations using the this information. Their accuracy scores in these experiments were then compared and examined for correlation with their scores on the Autism-Spectrum Quotient questionnaire which we aimed to measure the ability to process pragmatic inferences. 85

Objective: Brain responses to food or flavor stimuli are usually measured with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). One advantage of using electro-encephalo gram (EEG) is reduced cost and the ability to include participants with a higher BMI (compared to fMRI). In addition, because the participant is seated, EEG allows for a more naturalistic eating context. Event-related EEG studies using sip-and-swallow protocols do not exist to our awareness, but this is a critical lack, as the swallow breath contains flavor. Methods: In each session, the participants sipped the stimulus on 50 trials upon hearing an auditory cue. A pair of EMG electrodes were connected to the submental muscles under the participants' chin and utilized for the detection of swallow moment to obtain a precise time point for the consumption event. In addition, sip size was tracked with a USB-readable scale to identify unusual or irregular sips. We have completed data collection on 15 participants (7 women, 8 men) for 4 sessions each. Ongoing data analyses are done with EEGLAB and ERPLAB on MATLAB and MNE on Python. Results: Here we present preliminary results from a sip-and-swallow protocol with EEG, done to obtain event-related potential (ERP) changes time-locked to swallowing of a food stimulus (cacao milk). Conclusion: In conclusion, we demonstrate that a sip-and-swallow EEG protocol is possible with limited loss of data due to movement and clear ERPs can be obtained through such a procedure. Objective: To assess subsequent utilization of fertility treatment in reproductive-age women with cervical cancer (CC) who underwent ovarian transposition (OT) to preserve fertility prior to pelvic radiation., Study Design: This is a case series of 216 CC patients seen in a comprehensive cancer center. Sixteen patients underwent OT for fertility preservation prior to pelvic radiation. Patients were assessed for utilization of fertility treatment, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels as a measure of ovarian reserve, and functional assessment of chronic illness therapy-cervix cancer (FACT-CX) to assess quality of life after OT., Results: Of the patients, 94% of patients [corrected] maintained regular menstrual cycles 3 years after ovarian transposition (OT) [corrected] surgery (15/16). When measured (n = 5), serum FSH was normal at baseline and showed a transient elevation at 3 months following chemoradiation, with a return to normal levels at 6 months (means, 6.33 ± 2.94, 48.44 ± 18.63, and 12.52 ± 8.25 mIU/mL, respectively). Only 1 patient in this series attempted fertility treatment (in vitro fertilization) following OT, and she did not become pregnant. FACT-CX indicated that quality of life did not change significantly over the 6 months' duration following OT and chemoradiation therapy., Conclusion: OT preserves menstrual cycle regularity without negatively impacting patients' quality of life. The utility of OT as an effective fertility preservation option is hampered by the low utilization rate of in vitro fertilization and lack of ovarian reserve assessment following OT.
