In many areas of the world, water shortages prevail and threaten food production. Deficit irrigation was commonly investigated in dry areas as a precious and sustainable production approach. Using the CropSyst model to simulate the effects of different deficit irrigation treatments could help draw conclusions and save time, effort, and money. Therefore, the aims of this research were (i) to calibrate and validate the CropSyst model for wheat under different sustained and phenological stage-based deficit irrigation treatments, (ii) to simulate the impacts of the latter treatments on limiting wheat yield reduction. Two field experiments were conducted in Nubaria (Egypt), representing an arid environment. They included seven irrigation treatments: (1) 100%, (2) 75%, or (3) 50% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc) during the whole crop cycle; (4) 50% ETc at tillering only, or (5) at booting only, or (6) at grain filling only, or (7) at both tillering and grain filling, with the replenishment of 100% ETc to the treatments (4) to (7) in the remaining phenological stages. The results revealed that phenological stage-based deficit irrigation of wheat resulted in lower yield reduction compared to sustained deficit irrigation treatments, with a 6% yield reduction when 50% ETc was applied at the booting stage. Wheat yield loss was reduced to 4 or 6% when 95 or 90% of ETc were applied, respectively. The CropSyst model accurately simulated wheat grain and total dry matter under deficit irrigation with low RMSE value. In conclusion, the CropSyst model can be reliably used for evaluating the strategy of planned deficit irrigation management in terms of wheat production under the arid environment

Two pot experiments were conducted in a greenhouse to examine 14C fixation and its distribution in biochemical leaf components, as well as the physiological and anatomical adaptability responses of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown with seawater diluted to 0.2, 3.0, 6.0, and 12.0 dS m−1. The results showed significant reductions in chlorophyll content, 14C fixation (photosynthesis), plant height, main stem diameter, total leaf area per plant, and total dry weight at 3.0, 6.0, and 12.0 dS m−1 seawater salt stress. The 14C loss was very high at 12.0 ds m−1 after 120 h. 14C in lipids (ether extract) showed significant changes at 12.0 dS m−1 at 96 and 120 h. The findings indicated the leaf and stem anatomical feature change of wheat plants resulting from adaptation to salinity stress. A reduction in the anatomical traits of stem and leaf diameter, wall thickness, diameter of the hollow pith cavity, total number of vascular bundles, number of large and small vascular bundles, bundle length and width, thickness of phloem tissue, and diameter of the metaxylem vessel of wheat plants was found. The research on the situation of Nursing in Hemodynamics in Spain by the MAREC study arises in the Spanish Association of Nursing in Cardiology. Objective: to describe the available resources, the participation, the tasks and the level of autonomy of Nursing in Hemodynamics in Spain. Methodology. Cross-sectional descriptive study carried out with the aid of a self-administrated questionnaire on the nursing characteristics, staff and role in Hemodynamics units of public, private or state-contracted hospitals in Spain. Results. Participation was of 66.14% (n=84) of effective candidate centers (n=127). Out of these centers having been studied, 74 (88.1%) had a Hemodynamics unit. Murcia stands out with 2.40 hemodynamics units per million of inhabitants (national mean 1.59 units/ million of inhabitants). 86.3% have an attention program for infarction code and 63.5% have an outpatient clinic. 54.1% have two nurses per ward and 33.8% have three nurses. Four centers have nursing consultation managed by hemodynamics nurses. 62.2% have checklist or pre-intervention verification list. In 6.8% of centers, there are Nursing Doctors, and in half of them no nurse has a master‘s degree. 52.7% had an average of 3.1±1.9 nurses certified as «Expert in Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology» by the SHCI-AEEC. Conclusions. There is a big difference as regards to the resources available, the participation and the level of autonomy concerning hemodynamics nursing at national level. Future lines of study should analyze the unification of organization and human resources management criteria., La investigación sobre la situación de la Enfermería de Hemodinámica en España mediante el Estudio MAREC, surge en la Asociación Española de Enfermería en Cardiología. Objetivo: describir los recursos disponibles, participación, tareas y nivel de autonomía de la enfermería de Hemodinámica en España. Metodología. Estudio descriptivo transversal realizado mediante un cuestionario autoadministrado sobre las características, dotación y papel de enfermería en las unidades de Hemodinámica de los hospitales públicos, privados o concertados de España. Resultados. La participación fue del 66,14% (n=84) de los centros candidatos efectivos (n=127). De estos centros estudiados, 74 (88,1%) disponían de unidad de Hemodinámica. Destaca Murcia con 2,40 unidades de hemodinámica por millón de habitantes (media nacional de 1,59 unidades/millón de habitantes). El 86,3% dispone de programa de atención al código infarto y un 63,5% cuenta con hospital de día. El 54,1% cuenta con 2 enfermeros por sala y el 33,8% con 3 enfermeros. 4 centros disponen de consulta de enfermería gestionada por enfermeros de hemodinámica. El 62,2% cuentan con check-list o listado de verificación pre-intervención. En el 6,8% de centros hay Doctores en Enfermería y en la mitad de ellos ningún enfermero posee un título máster. El 52,7% contaban con una media de 3,1±1,9 enfermeros acreditados como «Experto en Hemodinámica y Cardiología Intervencionista» por la SHCI-AEEC. Conclusiones. Existe gran diferencia en recursos disponibles, participación y nivel de autonomía por parte de la enfermería de hemodinámica a nivel nacional. Futuras líneas de estudio deberían analizar la unificación de criterios de organización y gestión de recursos humanos.

The development of human activities has led a perceptible environmental degradation in the Conchos river basin. Several factors, such as deforestation, changes of land uses, overgrazing and chemical water pollution from agricultural activities, have influenced this damage. However, the main source of degradation of the surface water of this basin is discharges of urban and industrial waste water. Results from the water analyses show very low values of dissolved oxygen, with average level of 4.06 mg L-1, and high rates of turbidity, which in some cases reached the 980 NTU. In conclusion, the findings of this study show the need of a change in agricultural management and the improvement of integrated management system in the treatment of urban and industrial wastewater, in order to reach more appropriate levels of water quality, which currently they pose a serious risk to public health., El desarrollo de las actividades humanas ha provocado un notable deterioro ambiental en la cuenca del río Conchos. La deforestación, los cambios de uso del suelo, el sobrepastoreo y la contaminación química de las aguas originada por las actividades agrícolas han contribuido a esta degradación, pero el principal factor de deterioro ambiental lo constituye la contaminación de las aguas superficiales provocada por los vertidos de aguas residuales urbanas y de desechos industriales. Los resultados más relevantes obtenidos en los análisis de agua ofrecen unos valores de oxígeno disuelto muy bajos, con niveles medios de 4.06 mg L-1. También se han constatado elevadas tasas de turbidez, que en algunos casos han superado los 980 NTU. El estudio concluye poniendo de manifiesto la necesidad de adoptar cambios sustanciales en los usos y prácticas agrícolas, y de reformar los sistemas de gestión integral relacionados con el tratamiento de los efluentes urbanos e industriales, con el fin de mejorar la calidad de las aguas y evitar posibles riesgos para la salud pública., Le développement des activités humaines a provoqué une détérioration environnementale importante dans le bassin de la rivière Conchos. La déforestation, les changements dans l’utilisation des terres, le surpâturage et la pollution chimique de l’eau provenant des activités agricoles ont contribué à cette dégradation, mais le principal facteur de détérioration de l’environnement est la contamination des eaux de surface causée par rejets d’eaux usées urbaines et de déchets industriels. Les résultats les plus pertinents obtenus dans l’analyse de l’eau offrent de très faibles valeurs d’oxygène dissous, avec des niveaux moyens de 4,06 mg L-1. Des taux élevés de turbidité ont également été observés, qui dans certains cas ont dépassé 980 NTU. L’étude conclut en soulignant la nécessité d’adopter des changements substantiels dans les pratiques et pratiques agricoles, et de réformer les systèmes de gestion intégrale liés au traitement des effluents urbains et industriels, afin d’améliorer la qualité de l’eau et d’éviter risques possibles pour la santé publique.

Introduction. Nursing has an increasing role in many aspects of the heart patient care. A better understanding of the situation and role of Nursing in key areas of cardiological care will make it possible to identify needs and examples of success, and will become the first step in proposing measures to improve Cardiology Nursing care in Spain. The aim of this study was to identify the competences and the level of autonomy of nurses working in cardiovascular settings, as well as care and possible improvement measures in the areas of: hemodynamic, electrophysiology, heart failure and cardiac rehabilitation. Methods. National, multicenter, cross-sectional, descriptive study on Nursing‘s characteristics, staff and role in the units of a) hemodynamic, b) electrophysiology, c) heart failure and d) cardiac rehabilitation currently existing in Spain. Results. Information is presented for 84 participating centers (two of the collaborating centers did not have any of the units of interest), most of them public centers (n=70, 83%), out of which 74 have a hemodynamic unit, 69 a electrophysiology unit, 61 a heart failure unit and 56 a cardiac rehabilitation unit. Conclusions. The work identifies the Nursing ratios per provinces and Autonomous Communities, evaluates population assistance per provinces and per Autonomous Communities and offers the possibility that those centers in which the nurse‘s role is little identified can benefit from the experience of those in which it is more developed or better defined. In addition, it will allow to promote and establish a self-competence framework, opening the possibility to expand it in potential later stages, Introducción. Enfermería tiene un papel creciente en muchos aspectos de la atención al paciente cardiológico. Un mejor conocimiento de la situación y papel de la enfermería en áreas clave de la atención cardiológica permitirá identificar carencias y ejemplos de éxito y constituirá el primer paso para proponer medidas de mejora de la atención de la enfermería en cardiología en España. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar las competencias y el grado de autonomía de las enfermeras que trabajan en ambientes cardiovasculares, así como los cuidados y las posibles medidas de mejora en las áreas de: hemodinámica, electrofisiología, insuficiencia cardiaca y rehabilitación cardiaca. Estudio descriptivo, transversal, multicéntrico y nacional sobre las características, dotación y papel de enfermería en las unidades de a) hemodinámica, b) electrofisiología, c) insuficiencia cardiaca y d) rehabilitación cardiaca existentes actualmente en España. Se presenta información de 84 centros participantes (dos de los centros colaboradores no tenían ninguna de las unidades de interés), la mayor parte centros públicos (n=70, 83%) de los que 74 tienen unidad de hemodinámica, 69 de electrofisiología, 61 de insuficiencia cardiaca y 56 tienen unidad de rehabilitación cardiaca. La eficiencia en el uso de los recursos naturales es una prioridad para garantizar la sostenibilidad económica y ambiental de la agricultura. El proyecto Riego-Asesor analiza las relaciones entre la variabilidad climática y las necesidades requeridas en la gestión hídrica agrícola para así diseñar una batería de buenas prácticas de riego en base a pronósticos meteorológicos. El proyecto además desarrolla modelos semi-mecanicisticos de cultivos que permiten predecir el balance hídrico y simular así el déficit hídrico existente además de cuantificar la respuesta productiva frente al agua aplicada. Un aspecto importante de Riego-Asesor es la implementación de un sistema de predicción meteorológica que se adapta a las características microclimáticas de cada punto. Mediante la implantación de este sistema se esperan importantes beneficios en el ahorro y eficiencia de agua, incrementos de rendimiento y reducción del gasto energético, entre otros, gracias a la mejora de la predicción de la precipitación y de la evapotranspiración de referencia., The efficient use of natural resources is a priority to ensure economic and environmental sustainability of agriculture. Riego-Asesor project analyzes the relationship between climate variability and the needs required in agricultural water management in order to design a set of good irrigation practices based on weather forecasts. The project also develops semi-mechanistic crop models for predicting water balance and thus simulate the existing water deficit. In addition, these models try to quantifying the productive response to applied water. An important aspect of Riego-Asesor is the implementation of a weather forecasting system that adapts to the microclimatic characteristics of each point. By implementing this system important benefits are expected in water savings and efficiency, yield increases and reduced energy expenditure, among others, through the improved prediction of precipitation and reference evapo-transpiration.
