46. Effective Principles in Designing E-Course in Light of Learning Theories

Abstract

The researchers conducted an exploratory study to determine the design quality of some E-courses delivered via the web to a number of colleagues at the university. Results revealed a number of shortcomings in the design of these courses, mostly due to the absence of effective principles in the design of these E-courses, especially principles of pedagogy in relation to learning theories. So, this study seeks to identify effective principles in the design of courses for internet-based learning in the light of current learning theories, by answering the following question: What are the most effective principles when designing E-learning courses in the light of current learning theories? After an extensive review and analysis of the literature and previous studies relating to quality standards for the instructional design of E-courses delivered via the web, in particular, and quality standards for E-learning, in general, the results of this study revealed a number of principles for course design in E-learning. These are: identifying learning and performance outcomes; identifying methods and strategies of learning; designing learning activities; providing feedback and motivating the learner and determining the context and impact of learning. In the light of the findings of this study, with reference to the literature, we present a set of recommendations and pedagogical implications for professionals working in course design in E-learning at University of Dammam.

49. A nanoelectrode of hybrid nanomaterials of palladium oxide with cadmium sulfide based on 2D-carbon nanosheets for developing electron transfer efficiency for supercapacitor applications.

Abstract

A layered nanoelectrode design was based on the high surface area of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide; these layers were decorated with n/p-type palladium oxide nanoparticles (NPs) and cadmium sulfide NPs. The building of electron transfer through n/p-type eases the movement of electrons and increases electron clouds for the supercapacitor efficiency of fabricated nanoelectrodes, and their electrochemical characteristics were investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data. Applications as supercapacitors and other energy storage devices were supported by the construction, development, and surface modification of electron transport that was measured by EIS. The values of capacitance detected for GO@PdO@rGO (16.4 μF cm−2) and GO@PdO@rGO.CdS (21 μF cm−2) refer to the improvement in the electron transfer by the unique electrode. At 100 cycles, the capacitance retention of the nanoelectrodes was measured via a cyclovoltammetry device to reveal the high stability of GO@PdO@rGO (96%) and GO@PdO@rGO.CdS (97%) compared to the other electrode. The electroactive mass was determined to be 0.3396 mF cm−2 for GO@PdO@rGO and 0.426 mF cm−2 for GO@PdO@rGO.CdS; the electrochemical surface area (ECSA) was calculated to be 1007.8 for GO@PdO@rGO and 3058.5 for GO@PdO@rGO.CdS. The study suggests that these novel fabricated nanoelectrodes provide high efficiency for supercapacitors, batteries, water desalination, and energy storage, so they are promising candidate nanoelectrodes for energy applications. Abstract

Various traditional management techniques are employed to control plant diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. However, due to their drawbacks and adverse environmental effects, there is a shift toward employing more ecofriendly methods that are less harmful to the environment and human health. The main aim of the study was to biosynthesize silver Nanoparticles (AgNPs) from Rhizoctonia solani and Cladosporium cladosporioides using a green approach and to test the antimycotic activity of these biosynthesized AgNPs against a variety of pathogenic fungi. The characterization of samples was done by using UV-visible spectroscopy, SEM (scanning electron microscopy), FTIR (fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy), and XRD (X-ray diffractometry). During the study, the presence of strong plasmon absorbance bands at 420 and 450 nm confirmed the AgNPs biosynthesis by the fungi Rhizoctonia solani and Cladosporium cladosporioides. The biosynthesized AgNPs were 80-100 nm in size, asymmetrical in shape and became spherical to sub-spherical when aggregated. Assessment of the antifungal activity of the silver nanoparticles against various plant pathogenic fungi was carried out by agar well diffusion assay. Different concentration of AgNPs, 5 mg/mL 10 mg/mL and 15 mg/mL were tested to know the inhibitory effect of fungal plant pathogens viz. Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium citrinum, Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium metavorans, and Aspergillus aflatoxiformans. However, 15 mg/mL concentration of the AgNPs showed excellent inhibitory activity against all tested fungal pathogens. Thus, the obtained results clearly suggest that silver nanoparticles may have important applications in controlling various plant diseases caused by fungi. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
