1. Non-fumigant Nematicides are Promising Alternatives to Fumigants for the Management of Meloidogyne enterolobii in Tobacco

Abstract

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of three currently available non-fumigant chemical nematicides (oxamyl, fluopyram, and fluensulfone) and a biological nematicide derived from Burkholderia against Meloidogyne enterolobii on tobacco in a growth room environment. The non-fumigant chemical nematicides greatly suppressed nematode egg production compared to the untreated control, the suppression being 99.9% for fluensulfone and oxamyl, and 93% for fluopyram. Similarly, oxamyl-, fluensulfone-, and fluopyram-treated pots, respectively, had 99%, 98%, and 94% less J2/100 cm3 of soil than those in the control. The biological nematicide did not have a significant effect on nematode egg production and the soil abundance of J2. The root biomass of tobacco was significantly reduced by the application of fluensulfone, while the effects of oxamyl, fluopyram, and Burkholderia metabolites were not significant compared to the untreated control. Results from this study suggest that non-fumigant nematicides have a potential to serve as an alternative to fumigant nematicides.

Abstract

Barium titanate, BaTiO3 (BT), materials have been synthesized by two different routes: one ball-mill-derived (BMD) nanopowder and another precursor-derived (PCD) BT synthesis method were used separately to fabricate BT thin films on stainless steel (SS) and quartz substrates by spin coating. Then thin films from both synthesis routes were characterized by Ultraviolet-Visible-Near Infrared (UV-Vis-NIR) Spectroscopy, Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray Diffractometry (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, and Four-point collinear probe; all carried out at room temperature. Our studies revealed that the PCD synthesis process did not produce the BT phase even under the 900^0C air-annealing condition. In contrast, a homogeneous BT thin film has been formed from the BMD-BT nanopowder. The optical band gap of BMD-BT thin films was found in the 3.10 - 3.28 eV range. Finally, a Graphene-Barium Titanate-Graphene (G-BT-G) structure was fabricated on a SS substrate by spin coating at processing temperatures below 100^0C and characterized by two different pieces of equipment: a Potentiostat/Galvanostat (PG-STAT) and a Precision Impedance Analyzer (PIA). The G-BT-G structure exhibited a capacitance of 8 nF and 7.15 nF, a highest dielectric constant of 800 and 790, and a low dielectric loss of 4.5 and 5, investigated by PG-STAT and PIA equipment, respectively., Comment: 25 pages, 11 Figures

Abstract

A new mechanism has been proposed to simultaneously explain the presence of dark matter and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. This scenario predicts exotic $B$ meson decays into a baryon and a dark sector anti-baryon ($\psi_D$) with branching fractions accessible at $B$ factories. We present a search for $B \rightarrow \Lambda \psi_D$ decays using data collected by the $BABAR$ experiment at SLAC. This reaction is identified by fully reconstructing the accompanying $B$ meson and requiring the presence of a single $\Lambda$ baryon in the remaining particles. No significant signal is observed, and bounds on the $B \rightarrow \Lambda \psi_D$ branching fraction are derived in the range $0.13 - 5.2\times 10^{-5}$ for $1.0 < m_{\psi_D} < 4.2$ GeV/$c^{2}$. These results set strong constraints on the parameter space allowed by the theory.

Abstract

In this study, a complete study of the effect of hydrothermal reaction temperatures on the synthesis and physical properties of V2O5 using the green facile mild hydrothermal method has been performed with six different temperatures 100 {\deg}C to 200 {\deg}C, in the step of 20 {\deg}C. . The XRD pattern confirm the stable orthorhombic crystal structure of the synthesized samples at all reaction temperatures. The SEM and TEM images demonstrate the particle-like morphology, and these characterizations affirmed that the particles size became larger with the increase of reaction temperatures. The FTIR analysis is employed to study the functional groups, and the obtained results are consistent with the XRD analysis. The bandgap has been estimated at various reaction temperatures using UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-DRS) and was found to be varied 2.09 eV to 2.15 eV that are suitable range to absorb a significant amount of visible light. The photocatalysis of methylene blue (MB) with synthesized samples has been accomplished to investigate photocatalytic efficiency. 11. Mass transfer and kinetic studies on mercury adsorption by titania nanofibers

Abstract

The stringent laws and tight regulation on heavy metal bearing wastewaters being discharged into the water stream lead to emergence of technically advanced and super effective treatment methods. Heavy metal contaminated aqueous streams have become a global concern due to their carcinogenicity and delirious effects on human health. In particular, the health hazards of mercury include adverse effect on central nervous system, pulmonary and kidney functions, etc. Having a maximum discharge limit of 0.001 mg/L, which is the lowest amongst other heavy metals, mercury contamination has become a matter of global concern. In the present study, TiO2 having a proven track record for its affinity for heavy metals was lab synthesized in the form of fiber mats and tested for its adsorptive behaviour towards Hg(II) in aqueous system. The electrospinned nanofibers possessed smooth morphology and very high surface area ≈ 740 m2/g. The batch adsorption experiments showed titania nanofibers possessed great affinity towards Hg(II). At the most optimized conditions the removal percentage went remarkably high to 95.5% with initial Hg(II) concentration of 0.01 mg/L. Since the rate limiting steps in adsorption are of vital importance in order to define the rate parameters for design purposes, the present study takes into account External mass transfer, Weber and Morris and Boyd mass transfer diffusion models for Hg(II) adsorption on lab synthesized titania nanofibers. The equilibrium data were then analyzed using Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin sorption models and the characteristic sorption parameters for each isotherm were determined. The Mass transfer mechanism appeared to be film diffusion controlled and data fitted best to Freundlich isotherm with regression value of 0.991. The discussion also focuses on few of the recently used adsorbents for Hg(II) uptake and their comparison with the present study on the basis of removal percentage and kinetics involved. Promising adsorbent characteristics and rapid Hg(II) uptake makes this process a convenient one.

Abstract

Automatic image and digit recognition is a computationally challenging task for image processing and pattern recognition, requiring an adequate appreciation of the syntactic and semantic importance of the image for the identification ofthe handwritten digits. Image and Pattern Recognition has been identified as one of the driving forces in the research areas because of its shifting of different types of applications, such as safety frameworks, clinical frameworks, diversion, and so on.In this study, for recognition, we implemented a hybrid neural network model that is capable of recognizing the digit of MNISTdataset and achieved a remarkable result. The proposed neural model network can extract features from the image and recognize the features in the layer by layer. To expand, it is so important for the neural network to recognize how the proposed modelcan work in each layer, how it can generate output, and so on. Besides, it also can recognize the auto-encoding system and the variational auto-encoding system of the MNIST dataset. This study will explore those issues that are discussed above, and the explanation for them, and how this phenomenon can be overcome.

Abstract

We report on a precision measurement of the ratio ${\cal R}_{\tau\mu}^{\Upsilon(3S)} = {\cal B}(\Upsilon(3S)\to\tau^+\tau^-)/{\cal B}(\Upsilon(3S)\to\mu^+\mu^-)$ using data collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II $e^+e^-$ collider. The measurement is based on a 28 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.355 GeV corresponding to a sample of 122 million $\Upsilon(3S)$ mesons. The ratio is measured to be ${\cal R}_{\tau\mu}^{\Upsilon(3S)} = 0.966 \pm 0.008_\mathrm{stat} \pm 0.014_\mathrm{syst}$ and is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 0.9948 within 2 standard deviations. The uncertainty in ${\cal R}_{\tau\mu}^{\Upsilon(3S)}$ is almost an order of magnitude smaller than the only previous measurement., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables

Abstract

We present a search for seven lepton-flavor-violating neutral charm decays of the type $D^{0}\rightarrow X^{0} e^{\pm} \mu^{\mp}$, where $X^{0}$ represents a $\pi^{0}$, $K^{0}_{\rm S}$, $\bar{K^{*0}}$, $\rho^{0}$, $\phi$, $\omega$, or $\eta$ meson. The analysis is based on $468$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at or close to the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signals are observed, and we establish 90\% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range $(5.0 - 22.5)\times 10^{-7}$. Abstract

A study of the two body decays $B^\pm\rightarrow X_{c\bar c}K^\pm$, where X$_{c\bar c}$ refers to one charmonium state, is reported by BaBar collaboration using a data sample of 424 fb$^{-1}$. The absolute determination of branching fractions for these decays are significantly improved compared to previous BaBaR measurements. Evidence is found for the decay $B^+\rightarrow X(3872)K^+$ at the $3\sigma$ level. The absolute branching fraction ${\cal B}(B^+\rightarrow X(3872)K^+) = (2.1\pm0.6({\rm stat})\pm0.3({\rm syst}))\times 10^{-4}$ is measured for the first time. It follows that ${\cal B}(X(3872)\rightarrow J/\psi\pi^+\pi^-)=(4.1\pm1.3)\%$, supporting the hypothesis of a molecular component for this resonance., Comment: 8 pages 6 figures

Abstract

We search for the rare flavor-changing neutral current process $B^- \to \Lambda {\overline p} \nu{\overline{\nu}}$ using data from the BABAR experiment. A total of 424 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy of the $\Upsilon$(4S) resonance is used in this study, corresponding to a sample of ${(471 \pm 3) \times 10^{6}}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs. Signal $B^- \to \Lambda {\overline p} \nu{\overline{\nu}}$ candidates are identified by first fully reconstructing a $B^+$ decay in one of many possible exclusive decays to hadronic final states, then examining detector activity that is not associated with this reconstructed $B^+$ decay for evidence of a signal $B^- \to \Lambda {\overline p} \nu{\overline{\nu}}$ decay. The data yield is found to be consistent with the expected background contribution under a null signal hypothesis, resulting in an upper limit of ${{\cal B} (B^- \to \Lambda {\overline p} \nu{\overline{\nu}}) < 3.0\times 10^{-5}}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

31. Head-on collision of ion acoustic shock waves in collisionless plasma with pair-ions and electrons

Abstract

Unmagnetized collisionless plasma system consisting of positive- and negative ions, and electrons are considered to study the head-on collision of ion-acoustic shock waves (IASWs) and its effects on the formation of shock (monotonic and oscillatory) waves and phase shift. The soliton solution is derived from the two-sided Korteweg-de Vries Burger (KdVB) equations. The KdVB equations are obtained using extend Poincare-Lighthill-Kuo (ePLK) method. It is assumed that the negative ions are immobile and the electrons follow the Boltzmann energy distribution in the plasma. The effects of plasma parameters such as density ratios and kinematic viscosities on electrostatic shock profiles, phase shift, amplitudes, formation of shock (monotonic and oscillatory) as well as on the soliton solution are investigated. It is found that the density ratio of negative to positive ions plays a vital role on the formation of shock waves and phase shift after collision., Comment: 27 pages, 12 figures

Abstract

We report measurements of $\sin{2\beta}$ and $\cos{2\beta}$ from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of $B^{0} \to D^{(*)} h^{0}$ with $D \to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ decays, where the light unflavored and neutral hadron $h^{0}$ is a $\pi^{0}$, $\eta$, or $\omega$ meson. The analysis is performed with a combination of the final data sets of the \babar\ and Belle experiments containing $471 \times 10^{6}$ and $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon\left(4S\right)$ resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. We measure $\sin{2\beta} = 0.80 \pm 0.14 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.06 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.03 \,(\rm{model})$ and $\cos{2\beta} = 0.91 \pm 0.22 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.09 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.07 \,(\rm{model})$. The result for the direct measurement of the angle is $\beta = \left( 22.5 \pm 4.4 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 1.2 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.6 \,(\rm{model}) \right)^{\circ}$. The last quoted uncertainties are due to the composition of the $D^{0} \to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ decay amplitude model, which is newly established by a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis of a high-statistics $e^{+}e^{-} \to c\bar{c}$ data sample as part of this analysis. We find the first evidence for $\cos2\beta>0$ at the level of $3.7$ standard deviations. The measurement excludes the trigonometric multifold solution $\pi/2 - \beta = (68.1 \pm 0.7)^{\circ}$ at the level of $7.3$ standard deviations and therefore resolves an ambiguity in the determination of the apex of the CKM Unitarity Triangle. The hypothesis of $\beta = 0^{\circ}$ is ruled out at the level of $5.1$ standard deviations, and thus CP violation is observed in $B^{0} \to D^{(*)} h^{0}$ decays., Comment: To be submitted to Physical Review D

We present first evidence that the cosine of the CP-violating weak phase $2\beta$ is positive, and hence exclude trigonometric multifold solutions of the CKM Unitarity Triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of $B^{0} \to D^{(*)} h^{0}$ with $D \to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ decays, where $h^{0} \in \{\pi^{0}, \eta, \omega \}$ denotes a light unflavored and neutral hadron. The measurement is performed combining the final data sets of the BaBar and Belle experiments collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain $( 471 \pm 3 )\times 10^6\, B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and $( 772 \pm 11 )\times 10^6\, B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded by the Belle detector. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Urinary tract infection is one of the most common extraintestinal infectious diseases encountered in clinics. It affects both genders and all age groups and constitutes a major health issue in clinical practice worldwide. Uropathogens often develop resistance to therapeutic agents, creating a formidable challenge for physicians to treat these infections. The goal of the current review is to provide current information on therapeutic advancements and interventions in the treatment of urinary tract infections. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Databases like MEDLINE, PubMed, and ClinicalTrials.gov were used as search engines to collect the relevant articles, and the required information was extracted. RESULTS: Research data suggest an increasing prevalence of pathogenic strains that are resistant to standard antimicrobial regimens recommended for the treatment of urinary tract infections. Targeted therapies for urinary tract infections, such as mannosides and pilicides, as well as vaccinations against uropathogenic Escherichia coli, have been developed recently. The efficacy of other strategies like iontophoresis, hydrogel-coated catheters, and antibiofilm therapy is also investigated. Clinical trials conducted between 2014 and 2019 show a rise in interest in a variety of therapies, highlighting the need for a thorough strategy to treat urinary tract infections, particularly in populations of women. CONCLUSIONS: Antimicrobial-resistant strains of Escherichia coli are becoming more common in urinary tract infections, which have led to the development of targeted medicines such as mannosides and pilicides, as well as immunizations against the pathogenic Escherichia coli strains. There is continuing research into alternate approaches, such as hydrogel-coated catheters, antibiofilm therapy, and iontophoresis. Abstract

This research aims to explore the potential of various facial image types in diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through the application of deep learning neural networks. It delves into how deep learning algorithms perform with different facial image modalities, especially 2D and 3D, while addressing specific challenges associated with each. The methodology includes training deep learning models on distinct datasets and conducting an in-depth analysis of their accuracy and performance metrics. Significantly, the ResNet50V2 model recorded a 96.9% accuracy rate on the 2D dataset, and the Xception model achieved an 84.4% accuracy rate on the 3D dataset. These findings emphasize the strong capability of deep learning neural networks in making accurate ASD diagnoses from facial images. Nonetheless, the research reveals a stronger proficiency in handling 2D over 3D images, suggesting a need for more comprehensive 3D dataset training to improve three-dimensional image processing. The propagation characteristics and interactions between the dust acoustic (DA) one and multi solitons in an unmagnetized dusty plasmas composing negatively charged mobile dust, Boltzmann distributed electrons, nonextensive distributed cold and nonthermal distributed hot ions are studied. The well known extended Poincar Lighthill Kuo (PLK) method is employed to derive the two sided Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equations. The solutions of KdV equations are constructed using the Hirota method both for one and multi solitons. The phase shifts are determined for the interaction of one, two and three DA solitons. Room temperature dielectric and magnetic properties of BiFeO$_3$ samples, co-doped with magnetic Gd and non-magnetic Ti in place of Bi and Fe, respectively, were reported. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that the substitution of Fe by Ti induces a phase transition from rhombohedral to orthorhombic at x $>$ 0.20. Morphological studies demonstrated that the average grain size was reduced from $\sim {~}$1.5 $\mu m$ to $\sim {~}$200 $nm$ with the increase in Ti content. Due to Ti substitution, the dielectric constant was stable over a wide range of high frequencies (30 kHz to 20 MHz) by suppressing the dispersion at low frequencies. The dielectric properties of the compounds are associated with their improved morphologies and reduced leakage current densities probably due to the lower concentration of oxygen vacancies in the compositions. Magnetic properties of Bi$_{0.9}$Gd$_{0.1}$Fe$_{1-x}$Ti$_x$O$_3$ (x = 0.00-0.25) ceramics measured at room temperature were enhanced with Ti substitution up to 20 $\%$ compared to that of pure BiFeO$_3$ and Ti undoped Bi$_{0.9}$Gd$_{0.1}$FeO$_3$ samples. The enhanced magnetic properties might be attributed to the substitution induced suppression of spiral spin structure of BiFeO$_3$. An asymmetric shifts both in the field and magnetization axes of magnetization versus magnetic field (M-H) curves was observed. Abstract

We report a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D(*)CP h0 decays, where the light neutral hadron h0 is a pi0, eta or omega meson, and the neutral D meson is reconstructed in the CP eigenstates K+ K-, K0S pi0 or K0S omega. The measurement is performed combining the final data samples collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BaBar and Belle experiments at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain ( 471 +/- 3 ) x 10^6 BB pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and ( 772 +/- 11 ) x 10^6, BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. We measure the CP asymmetry parameters -eta_f S = +0.66 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and C = -0.02 +/- 0.07 (stat.) +/- 0.03 (syst.). These results correspond to the first observation of CP violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 decays. Abstract

Background: Acute pancreatitis is a commonly encountered emergency in children. It has always been tough to predict accurately among the patients who will become systemically unwell. Simple prognostic markers, such as red cell distribution width (RDW) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), could identify such patients. This study was done to assess the usefulness of those markers. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2018 to June2020at department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, BSMMU, Dhaka. Thirty-one children with abdominal pain diagnosed as acute pancreatitis were included by purposive sampling in the study. Results: The mean age of the pediatric patients was 11.19 (±3.45) years. The mean red cell distribution width was 14.99 (±2.96) and mean neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio was 4.49 (±3.99). Total thirty patients (97%) were recovered and one patient (3%) died in hospital stay. Thirteen patients (41.9%) developed complications among which ascites was more common (12, 38.7%). NLR> 5 was observed in higher proportion in the study subjects with complications (46.2%) than without complications (16.7%) without any statistically significant difference. RDW e" 14 was found in 53.8% study subjects with complications and 50% without complications. However, no statistically significant difference was found. Length of hospital stay was longer in patients with NLR >5 than with NLR d"5. RDW <14 was associated with longer hospital stay than RDW e"14. There was no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: It was found that elevated RDW and NLR on admission had unfavorable clinical outcomes for pediatric patients with acute pancreatitis although statistical significance could not be established. Further multicenter studies with larger sample size are required for making some clinically applicable inference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
