2. Impact of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG fermentation on shelf life of Volvariella volvacea paste.

Abstract

Paste formulations of Volvariella volvacea (VV) were developed for its shelf-life enhancement. Egg stage fruiting bodies of mushrooms were used for preparation of salted, spiced, and their fermented pastes. Fermented paste formulations were developed using inoculation with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG at 0.5% (w/w) and incubation for 2 days at 35 ± 2 °C. The unfermented VV paste was preserved with sodium benzoate of 0.065%, while fermented formulations were kept devoid of any chemical preservative. All formulations were packed in glass jars and retort bags, and thereafter treated in boiling water bath for one hour. The spiced, fermented VV paste scored highest in sensory evaluation and maximum crude protein and moisture contents, while lowest in contents of ash, fat, crude fibre, and carbohydrates. The fermented (salted and spiced) VV pastes showed variation in pH at 4 °C. Shelf life of 56 days was observed for fermented VV paste stored in glass jars under refrigerated conditions. The antioxidant analysis revealed that DPPH radical scavenging activity of fermented paste formulations increased significantly up to 21 days followed by gradual decrease until the 56th day, while total phenolic content of all paste formulations decreased with storage time. Hence, fermented spiced paste showed enhanced nutritive and antioxidative potential and shelf life up to 56 days. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Published papers have suggested a possible increased incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after successful DAAs treatment. Other papers have been published about the problem but without conclusive results. Because of this debate, we aim to evaluate the effects of antiviral therapy (Sofosbuvir plus Daclatasvir with or without Ribavirin) on the de novo occurrence of HCC in patients with liver cirrhosis (LC).Patients and Methods: A prospective cohort study has included 350 patients who have visited our center for HCV treatment. Pretreatment history, examination, complete blood picture, liver function tests, kidney function tests, HA1C for diabetic patients, HCV PCR, HBsAg, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and abdominal ultrasound have been done, also Child-Pogh (CP) and Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score before treatment. These investigations have been repeated for 3 months after the end of treatment. Abdominal ultrasound (US) has been done for 3 months after treatment and every 4 months for 2 years after the end of treatment to detect HCC occurrence.Results: Patients age (58.11 ± 7.48), 55.4% of patients were males, 30.3% of patients were diabetic, 84.3% of them were treatment naïve and sustained virological response (SVR) occured in 94% of them. HCC occurrence after treatment was 6.7% in patients with SVR and 23.8% in patients with non-SVR (P value=0.016) during follow-up period. There is significant improvement of CP score. No significant changes in MELD score.Conclusion: Treatment of HCV-related LC patients with sofosbuvir and daclatasvir with or without ribavirin for 3 or 6 months showed high SVR and significant improvement in CP score, but still at risk of HCC even if treated and should be followed up regularly according to screening programs with special meticulous attention to those with non-SVR.Keywords: de-novo HCC occurrence, HCV treatment

Abstract

Resource allocation is one of the crucial challenges to the decision-makers. It has a significant impact on the profitability of any company. Freight transport is one type of resource allocation; here the decision-maker has to choose the quantity of products for delivering at a minimum cost from the several plants/factories/sources to the several destinations/ warehouses. We have conducted a comparative study based on secondary data to figure out the best technique for solving the freight transportation problems. Here we have selected 40 balanced and unbalanced problems randomly with dimensions 3 x 3 to 7 x 7. We have selected 23 existing methods, some of them are popular and some are recently developed. We compare these 23 methods regarding firstly the optimal solution criterion, and secondly which one can give us the solution in the least step or short time. We have checked the solution at first manually, then by GNU Octave to figure out if there is any inconsistency. Here, the GNU octave is chosen for its easy acceptance and easy input procedure. On our selected problems, the findings show us that the Faster STrongly Polynomial method (FSTP) is best if we consider the least step but concerning the short time MOdifiedDIstribution method worked on Vogel's Approximation Method, well known as VAM-MODI is performing the best. Abstract

We prove the higher dimensional charged Penrose inequality conjecture on a spacetime where the initial geometry is spherically symmetric using the definition of a quasi-local mass in higher dimensional spacetime. Some physical assumptions on the initial spacetime and on its hypersurface have been taken in order to avoid the real singularity. We also impose two physical conditions on matter such as the dominant energy condition and the localization of the matter distribution.

In this paper, we propose that the Lagrangian relaxation approach can be used to approximate the Pareto front of the multiobjective optimization problems. We introduce Lagrangian relaxation approach to solve scalarized subproblems. The scalarization is a technique employed to transform multiple objectives optimization problems into single-objective optimization problems so that existing optimization techniques are used to solve the problems. The relaxation approach exploits transformation and creates a Lagrangian problem in which some of the constraints are replaced from the original problem to make the problem easier to solve. The method is very effective when the problem is large scale and difficult to solve; this means if the problem has nonconvex and nonsmooth structure, then our proposed method efficiently solves the problem. We succeed in establishing proper Karush Kuhn-Tucker type necessary conditions for our proposed approach. We establish the relation between our proposed approach and the well-known existing approach weighted-sum scalarization methods. Abstract

Referring to the Department of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics in Medan, North Sumatera, there is missing data of solar irradiance for the year of 2014. This paper is presented to estimate the solar irradiance using Hargreaves method based on the latitude and the monthly minimum and maximum temperature of the missing data. The temperature and estimated solar irradiance were applied to observe the output characteristics of a photovoltaic (PV) module. These parameters were used to assess the potential of the transformerless photovoltaic inverter (TPVI). Simulation results show that the average monthly solar irradiation was 6.98 kWh/m² using Hargreaves method. This was more than twice greater the normal solar radiation (3 kWh/m²), which indicated that the sky in Medan was clear and had very high solar irradiation intensity for the year of 2014. These findings suggest there are a big potential of solar irradiation for generating the TPVI in Medan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
