The route of the bus, timing, traveling distance, and passenger count, as well as estimating the demand for bus service. In order to help decision-makers address the traffic congestion issue in the city's roads and implement the necessary improvements, this study focus on evaluating the effectiveness of the public transportation system's performance. By encouraging citizens to use the system, this will help to reduce traffic congestion in the city's streets. The bus routes' service attributes in the city of Diwaniyah were the main focus of this paper. The goal of this work is to identify the features of a few bus routes in Al-Diwaniyah city as part of a project to identify the best bus routes. Both directions of the following three roads were selected: The University, Al-Orouba and Al-Zaitoon roads toward the city centre. The selected parameters were travel demands and travel time. For data collection, the ride check survey and the point check survey were carried out on these routes. The results revealed that maximum demand 338,70 and 114 passenger/hr for these roads respectively. The travel time results suggested average values of 3.3 – 3.9 minutes per km length that suggested average travel speed of 15-18 km/hr. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
