Abstract

We report on precision mass measurements of Ru113,115,117 performed with the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap mass spectrometer at the Accelerator Laboratory of University of Jyväskylä. The phase-imaging ion-cyclotron-resonance technique was used to resolve the ground and isomeric states in Ru113,115 and enabled for the first time a measurement of the isomer excitation energies, Ex(Rum113)=100.5(8) keV and Ex(Rum115)=129(5) keV. The ground state of Ru117 was measured using the time-of-flight ion-cyclotron-resonance technique. The new mass-excess value for Ru117 is around 36 keV lower and seven times more precise than the previous literature value. With the more precise ground-state mass values, the evolution of the two-neutron separation energies is further constrained and a similar trend as predicted by the BSkG1 model is obtained up to the neutron number N=71., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract

Precision mass measurements of neutron-rich rhodium isotopes have been performed at the JYFLTRAP Penning trap mass spectrometer at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility. We report results on ground- and isomeric-state masses in Rh110,112,114,116,118 and the very first mass measurement of Rh120. The isomeric states were separated and measured for the first time using the phase-imaging ion-cyclotron-resonance (PI-ICR) technique. For Rh112, we also report new half-lives for both the ground state and the isomer. Abstract

AbstractUnderstanding the evolution of the nuclear charge radius is one of the long-standing challenges for nuclear theory. Recently, density functional theory calculations utilizing Fayans functionals have successfully reproduced the charge radii of a variety of exotic isotopes. However, difficulties in the isotope production have hindered testing these models in the immediate region of the nuclear chart below the heaviest self-conjugate doubly-magic nucleus 100Sn, where the near-equal number of protons (Z) and neutrons (N) lead to enhanced neutron-proton pairing. Here, we present an optical excursion into this region by crossing the N = 50 magic neutron number in the silver isotopic chain with the measurement of the charge radius of 96Ag (N = 49). The results provide a challenge for nuclear theory: calculations are unable to reproduce the pronounced discontinuity in the charge radii as one moves below N = 50. The technical advancements in this work open the N = Z region below 100Sn for further optical studies, which will lead to more comprehensive input for nuclear theory development.

Abstract

The multinucleon transfer (MNT) reaction approach was successfully employed for the first time to measure the isomeric ratios (IRs) of 211Po isomer (25/2+) and its ground state (9/2+) at the IGISOL facility using a 945 MeV 136Xe beam impinged on 209Bi and natPb targets. The dominant production of isomers compared to the corresponding ground states was consistently revealed in the α -decay spectra. Deduced IR of 211Po populated through the 136Xe+natPb reaction was found to have an enhancement of ≈1.8-times than that observed for the 136Xe+209Bi. State-of-the-art Langevin-type model calculations have been utilized to estimate the spin distribution of an MNT residue. The computations qualitatively corroborate with the considerable increase in the IRs of 211Po produced from 136Xe+natPb compared to 136Xe+209Bi. Theoretical investigations indicate a weak dependence of target spin on the IRs. The enhancement of the 211Po isomer in the 136Xe+natPb over 136Xe+209Bi can be attributed to the different proton (p)-transfer production routes. Estimations demonstrate an increment in the angular momentum transfer, favorable for isomer production, with increasing projectile energy. Comparative analysis reveals the two entrance channel parameters, projectile mass and p -transfer channels, strongly influencing the population of the high-spin isomer of 211Po (25/2+). Abstract

Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on the isomer of the aluminium isotope ^{26m}Al. The measured isotope shift to ^{27}Al in the 3s^{2}3p ^{2}P_{3/2}^{○}→3s^{2}4s ^{2}S_{1/2} atomic transition enabled the first experimental determination of the nuclear charge radius of ^{26m}Al, resulting in R_{c}=3.130(15)  fm. This differs by 4.5 standard deviations from the extrapolated value used to calculate the isospin-symmetry breaking corrections in the superallowed β decay of ^{26m}Al. Its corrected Ft value, important for the estimation of V_{ud} in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, is thus shifted by 1 standard deviation to 3071.4(1.0) s.
