Otitis media, a common childhood disease, can lead to serious complications such as acute mastoiditis and, rarely, Luc's abscess, with life-threatening consequences. Luc's abscess, a rare but severe complication, can occur without acute mastoiditis. This case report details a case of Luc's abscess in a 14-year-old girl with acute otitis media, presenting with ear pain, facial swelling, and hearing loss. Treatment involves a multidisciplinary approach, considering factors like age and abscess extent. Though there is no established standard treatment, this case emphasizes the need for prompt recognition and appropriate intervention to prevent severe complications. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate visual and software-based quantitative assessment of parenchymal changes and normal lung parenchyma in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia. The secondary aim of the study was to compare the radiologic findings with clinical and laboratory data.Methods: Patients with COVID-19 who underwent chest computed tomography (CT) between March 11, 2020 and April 15, 2020 were retrospectively evaluated. Clinical and laboratory findings of patients with abnormal findings on chest CT and PCR-evidence of COVID-19 infection were recorded. Visual quantitative assessment score (VQAS) was performed according to the extent of lung opacities. Software-based quantitative assessment of the normal lung parenchyma percentage (SQNLP) was automatically quantified by a deep learning software. The presence of consolidation and crazy paving pattern (CPP) was also recorded. Statistical analyses were performed to evaluate the correlation between quantitative radiologic assessments, and clinical and laboratory findings, as well as to determine the predictive utility of radiologic findings for estimating severe pneumonia and admission to intensive care unit (ICU).Results: A total of 90 patients were enrolled. Both VQAS and SQNLP were significantly correlated with multiple clinical parameters. While VQAS >8.5 (sensitivity, 84.2%; specificity, 80.3%) and SQNLP <82.45% (sensitivity, 83.1%; specificity, 84.2%) were related to severe pneumonia, VQAS >9.5 (sensitivity, 93.3%; specificity, 86.5%) and SQNLP <81.1% (sensitivity, 86.5%; specificity, 86.7%) were predictive of ICU admission. Both consolidation and CPP were more commonly seen in patients with severe pneumonia than patients with nonsevere pneumonia (P = 0.197 for consolidation; P < 0.001 for CPP). Moreover, the presence of CPP showed high specificity (97.2%) for severe pneumonia.Conclusion: Both SQNLP and VQAS were significantly related to the clinical findings, highlighting their clinical utility in predicting severe pneumonia, ICU admission, length of hospital stay, and management of the disease. Previous studies reported that positive airway pressure (PAP) treatment may improve olfaction function in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) through various mechanisms. Olfactory function before and after PAP treatment is understudied regarding patient group at issue. The aim of this study is to investigate the contribution of PAP to olfactory function in patients with OSA. The study was conducted on 26 patients with OSA (10 females and 16 males, mean age 50.1 [9.3] years) who scheduled for PAP treatment. The Connecticut Chemosensory Clinical Research Center odor test was performed before and 4 months after PAP treatment. Patients were grouped (normal, anosmia, mild hyposmia, moderate hyposmia, and severe hyposmia) with respect to olfactory function by measuring odor test parameters, including threshold determination and identification. The odor test average scores of the patients after 4-month PAP treatment compared to pretreatment scores were increased and the difference was statistically significant (P =.002). In the apnea hypopnea index groups, statistically significant difference was found in the threshold and discrimination values regarding before PAP treatment (P =.038, P =.022, respectively). This study revealed that improvement in olfactory thresholds in patients with OSA receiving PAP treatment seems to improve olfactory dysfunction. This provides minimization of OSA consequences, including progressive upper airway inflammation, cognitive impairment, and associated olfactory dysfunction. Objective: Benign fibroepithelial lesions (BFL) lesions of the breast are various and predominantly benign, although a few can be locally aggressive. Definitive diagnosis of some BFL can be challenging from core needle biopsy (CNB). Radiological findings can help guide the management of the lesions. The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy rate of CNB results and evaluate the radiological findings of the most common BFL according to the final excision pathology results. The secondary aim was to assess the contribution of the imaging findings to CNB results. Materials and Methods: A retrospective review was made of 266 patients diagnosed with suspicious BFL, conventional fibroadenoma, complex fibroadenoma, cellular fibroadenoma and benign phyllodes tumor (PT). The study included 132 patients who underwent surgical excision. The radiological and histopathological findings were evaluated. Results: While 66 patients were diagnosed with more descriptive results on CNB, the other 66 patients were diagnosed with suspicious BFL. Agreement between CNB and excisional pathology was good, when CNB provided a definite diagnosis. While conventional and complex fibroadenoma were observed to have hypo or normal vascularity, cellular fibroadenoma and PT showed hypervascularity. Oval shaped and homogeneous internal echo pattern were significantly associated with conventional fibroadenoma. A heterogeneous internal echo pattern was seen in complex fibroadenomas and PT. Conclusion: CNB often reaches the correct diagnosis alone when it gives a definite diagnosis. The radiological findings which help in the differentiation of BFL are hypervascularity, oval shape and internal heterogeneity. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical, imaging and histopathological features of breast cancer in patients aged under 40 years of age. The relationship between radiological characteristics and histopathological features was also investigated. Materials and Methods: The study included 131 patients aged under 40 years, diagnosed pathologically with breast cancer. A retrospective evaluation was made of the imaging and clinicopathological findings and the relationship between pathological and imaging findings was investigated. Results: Most of the cancers were detected from clinical symptoms, especially a palpable mass (76.3%). The most common histological type of tumor was invasive ductal carcinoma and 64.8% of the tumors were high grade tumors. The predominant features were irregular borders (92.4%), microlobulated-angulated contours (43.5%), hypo-homogeneous internal echogenicity (80.9%) on ultrasonography, and the presence of a mass (41.2%) and suspicious microcalcifications (40.2%) on mammography. Magnetic resonance imaging commonly showed mass enhancement (66.7%) with type 2 or 3 dynamic curve (92.6%). High-grade tumors were associated with posterior acoustic enhancement (p: 0.03) while low-grade tumors presented with spiculated margins more than high grade tumors (p: 0.04). Conclusion: Breast cancer in women aged under 40 years usually presents with a self-detected palpable mass and can show different imaging findings according to the histological grade. Ultrasonography is the main modality for the diagnosis of breast cancer in young women, but mammography and magnetic resonance imaging can help in both diagnosis and evaluation of the extent of disease. Objective: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasonography (US) are commonly used in the pre-surgery determination of tumor size and the follow-up of breast cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of preoperative MRI and US in tumor size evaluation of patients with breast cancer after NAC to guide clinicians on the appropriate treatment plan. Materials and Methods: The study included a total of 75 patients who had undergone radiological follow-up, surgical treatment and pathological examination in our hospital between 2013 and 2016. Of these, 28 patients were followed-up with MRI and 47 with US. The dimension evaluations in pathology examination and on both MRI and US were based on the longest dimension of the tumor. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the tumor size measured pathologically and the size measured preoperatively on MRI (p=0.379). The tumor size measured on US before surgery was significantly smaller than the size measured in pathology (p=0.004). MRI did not overestimate by more than 10 mm in any patient, whereas US overestimated in 4 patients (8.6%). The correlation coefficient of MRI was higher than that of US (0.927 and 0.687, respectively). Conclusion: MRI is superior to US in preoperative tumor size evaluation of patients receiving NAC. Objective: Leukoplasia requires careful clinical follow-up with recurrent biopsies, regardless of the histopathological grade of dysplasia, because it has a potential risk of malignant transformation. This study aimed to investigate the clinical features and risk factors of laryngeal leukoplasia. Methods: Overall, 174 lesions of 97 patients who were diagnosed with vocal fold dysplasia between 2007 and 2013 at our clinic were retrospectively analyzed. Histopathological classification of laryngeal leukoplakia, gender, age, systemic diseases, smoking habits, initial symptoms, duration of symptoms, location, size and number of lesions, and recurrence of the lesion were recorded. Results: Ten (10.30%) of the patients were females and 87 (89.70%) were males. The average age was 56.95 years. The initial sypmtom of all patients was hoarseness. Average cigarette use was 38.82 packets/year; smoking frequency was 93.8%; and reflux frequency was 16.6%. Indirect and direct laryngoscopic examinations revealed that 103 (59.53%) patients had leukoplasia and 70 (40.46%) patients had vocal cord irregularities. Mild dysplasia was the most common histopathological diagnosis. The lesion location was 45.1% in the anterior 1/3, 32.34% in the middle 1/3, and 22.55% in the posterior 1/3 of the vocal cord. The age distribution, sex ratio, duration of initial symptom, reflux rate, smoking rate, and localization were not statistically significant (p>0.05) in patients with and without recurrence. Leukoplasia recurrence rate was significantly higher (p<0.05) than irregularity rate. Conclusion: In laryngeal leukoplasia, biopsy and histopathological examination are important for evaluating epithelial dysplasia and its degree. Histopathologically, factors such as presence and severity of dysplasia and smoking increase the risk of developing malignancy. Clinically homogeneous leukoplasia has a higher recurrence rate than nonhomogeneous irregularity. However, age distribution, sex, duration of initial symptom, reflux rate, smoking, and localization does not increase the recurrence rate, according to the results of this study. Objective: To measure the effect of localization of septal deviation on the success of septoplasty using the-Nose Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) scale in patients undergoing septoplasty and endoscopic reduction of inferior turbinates. Methods: Patients who attended Oltu Goverment Hospital ENT clinic with nasal septal deviation between March 2011 and June 2012 were included in this study. Patients who had paranasal sinus problems other than concha hypertrophy and revision cases were excluded from this study. Septal deviation was classified according to the position of the internal nasal valve as anterior, posterior or anteroposterior. All patients were examined with nasal endoscopy before and after operation and received a preoperative paranasal tomography scan. The effect of septal deviation on quality of life was evaluated using the NOSE scale preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. All patients had endoscopic septoplasty and inferior concha reduction under general anaesthesia. Results: Ninety-seven (40 female, 57 male) patients underwent endoscopic septoplasty and concha reduction between 2011 and 2012 in Oltu Government hospital. The mean age was 29.8 years. Anterior deviation was 45, posterior deviation was 33, and anteroposterior deviation was 19. Patients with anterior deviation had a mean NOSE scale of 78.2 preoperatively and 5.8 postoperatively. Patients with posterior deviation had a mean NOSE scale of 79.2 preoperatively and 15.4 postoperatively. Patients with anteroposterior deviation had a mean NOSE scale of 82.4 preoperatively and 22.5 postoperatively (p<0.01). Conclusion: Localization of septal deviation affected postoperative septoplasty satisfaction. Patients with anteroposterior deviation were the least satisfied and patients with anterior deviation were the most satisfied after septoplasty surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aneurysmal fibrous histiocytoma is a different variant of dermatofibroma, characterized by blood-filled spaces within the fibroblastic tumor. In addition to the typical features of a dermatofibroma, it contains large cleft-like or cavernous blood-filled spaces with numerous hemosiderin pigments. This tumor accounts for less than 2% of all fibrous histiocytomas, and it is typically known to occur in the extremities of middle-aged patients. Clinically, they are larger than cutaneous fibrous histiocytomas in size, may be blue, black, or dark red in color, and may have a cystic consistency. They show symptoms of pain and rapid growth. Knowing the characteristics of this rare lesion is important in terms of the differential diagnosis of other malignant mesenchymal neoplasms. Thyroid tissue may be localized at various levels in the midline of the neck in the region between the foramen ceacum and the sternal notch. Thyroid tissue can also be found in remote structures that were associated with the thyroid anlage during development. Thyroid tissue is rarely detected in the the lateral neck, such as in the submandibular region. Ectopic thyroid tissue may be subject to the same pathological processes as normal eutopic thyroid tissue, including inflammation, hyperplasia, and tumorigenesis. Primary cutaneous carcinoma is a dermal biphasic tumor that is more commonly encountered in the upper extremities and the head and neck region, as a result of sunshine exposure. It is a rare tumor and occurs more frequently in older males. Immunohistochemical evaluation is required for the diagnosis. The epithelial components of the tumor include squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and adnexial tumors; mesenchymal components are pleomorphic sarcoma, atypical fibroxanthoma and osteosarcoma. We present a rare case where auricular helix carcinosarcoma metastasized to the parotid gland within the first year following total excision. The patient had a total parotidectomy as well as a modified radical neck dissection type II and postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy. In spite of the surgery and radiotherapy, the tumor had an aggressive course, with recurrence in the temporomandibular region, and the patient was lost on the 11th month of the follow-up.
