It is known that formaldehyde has serious toxicological effects on medical students, laboratory workers and environmental health. Recently various scientists search for a safe preservation fluid instead of the formaldehyde. One of them and the famous one is the Thiel’s embalming solution. However, it has been realized that it causes deterioration in muscle tissues. It was determined that this deterioration was caused by the boric acid. In the present study, previously formalin fixed muscle tissues were stored into the alkali form of boron during 40 days. At the end of the trial the appearance of the borax stored cadavers was quite similar to the formalin stored cadavers. In cross-sections taken from the muscle tissues, no deterioration could observe. Additionally, there was no putrid odor; on the contrary, a slight level of formaldehyde odor. In microbiological tests, there was a slight insignificant increase in the total number of bacteria in borax solutions. As a result, it was concluded that borax could be used as a cadaveric storage solution, and it can be more appropriate to use borax instead of boric acid in Thiel's solution.

N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptors are one of the most important elements of the glutamatergic system. The hypofunction of this receptor causes locomotor hyperactivity. The chemical agent MK-801, which is an NMDA receptor antagonist, also causes locomotor hyperactivity in rodents. In the present study, it is aimed to find the lowest protective dose of neuroprotective resveratrol and N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) combination on increased locomotor activity using MK-801 in mice. For this purpose, 84 female mice were used and 14 groups of equal number of mice were formed. Locomotor hyperactivity was created in two parts as acute (1 day drug administration) and sub-acute (4 days drug administration) phases. After drug administrations, animals were subjected to open field testing. According to the results, the drug combination was successful in reducing locomotor hyperactivity in the acute phase than in the sub-acute phase. It was observed that the intraperitoneal administration of both low doses of the combination, 40mg/kg resveratrol + 20mg/kg NAC and 20mg/kg resveratrol + 10mg/kg NAC, successfully prevented the locomotor hyperactivity in the acute phase. As a result, it was concluded that the combination of antioxidants has an effect on acutely formed locomotor hyperactivity. N-Methyl-D-Aspartate reseptörleri glutamaterjik sistemin önemli bir öğesidir. Bu reseptörün hipofonksiyonu lokomotor hiperaktiviteye sebep olur. NMDA reseptörlerinin antagonisti olan MK-801 isimli kimyasal da lokomotor hiperaktiviteye sebep olmaktadır. Sunulan bu çalışmada nöroprotektif özellikleri olduğu bilinen resveratrol ve N-asetilsistein isimli iki antioksidan kombinasyonunun farelerde MK-801’le indüklenen lokomotor hiperaktivite üzerinde etkin olan en düşük dozu araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla 84 dişi fare eşit olarak 14 gruba bölünmüştür. Lokomotor hiperaktivite akut (1 gün ilaç uygulanması) ve sub-akut (4 gün ilaç uygulanması) faz olmak üzere iki bölümde oluşturuldu. İlaç uygulamalarından sonra hayvanların katettikleri mesafe açık alan test düzeneğinde 10 dakika boyunca kaydedilmiştir. Ölçüm sonuçlarına göre antioksidan kombinasyonunun akut fazda sub-akut faza göre başarılı olduğu gözlenmiştir. Kombinasyonun her iki düşük dozu olan 40mg/kg resveratrol + 20mg/kg NAC ve 20mg/kg resveratrol + 10mg/kg NAC’ın intraperitoneal uygulamalarının akut fazda lokomotor hiperaktiviteyi başarıyla engellediği gözlendi. Sonuç olarak antioksidan kombinasyonunun akut oluşan lokomotor hiperaktivite karşısında etkisinin olduğu sonucuna varıldı.

Veziküler bez sığır fertilitesinde önemli bir üreme bezidir. Sunulan bu çalışmada sığır veziküler bezinin morfometrik ve stereolojik olarak incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla 8 sağlıklı Holstein boğasının çift olan veziküler bezleri mezbahadan toplanmış ve ağırlığı ile boyutları ölçülmüştür. Formaldehit tespitinden sonra tüm bezler bezin toplam hacminin, hücre sayısının ve çekirdek hacminin ölçülmesi için 3 alt gruba ayrılmıştır. Hücre sayımı ve hücre çekirdek hacmi ölçümü bezin en çok bulunan ana hücresi olan principal hücreler üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bezin ortalama ağırlığı, eni, uzunluğu, yüksekliği, ortalama hacmi, principal hücrelerin ortalama sayısı ve ortalama çekirdek hacmi sırasıyla 30,9 gr., 2,62 cm, 8,86 cm, 1,86 cm, 29,7 cm3, 3,58,109 ve 108 µm3 olarak bulunmuştur. Araştırmacılar bu bulguların literature katkı sağlayacağına ve gelecekte yapılacak olan deneysel ve toksikolojik çalışmalara ışık tutacağına inanmaktadır., The vesicular gland is an important genital gland related to the fertility of bovine. In this study, the morphometric and stereological methods were sought to adapt to the bovine vesicular gland. For this aim, 8 healthy Holstein bull’s paired vesicular glands were collected from the slaughterhouse. The weight and the dimensions of the glands were measured before the fixation. After the formalin fixation, all the glands were divided into 3 subgroups for the total volume estimation of the gland, cell counting and the volume estimation of the cell nucleus. The cell counting and the volume estimation of the cell nucleus were performed on the principal cells. The average weight, width, length, height, the volume of the glands, the mean number and nucleus volume of the principal cells were 30.9 g., 2.62 cm, 8.86 cm and 1.86 cm, 29.7 cm3, 3.58.109 and 108 µm3, respectively. The researchers believe that the findings will contribute to the literature and in particular, facilitate experimental and toxicological researches performed in the future.

The study aimed to reveal the similarities and differences of the tongue of the merlin with other bird species. Merlin is the smallest bird of the Falconidae family and lives in America, the northern regions of Europe and Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia. Since these species don’t have teeth, lips, and cheeks, the tongue fulfills significant functions related to nutrition, and it differs morphologically as a result of differences in eating habits. In this study, the tongues obtained from five adult merlin (falco columbarius) were examined by morphological and stereological methods. It was determined that the tongue of the merlin was thin, long, and rectangular, the front part was oval, W-shaped papilla linguales caudales were found between the body and root of the tongue. The average length of the tongue was 26.32 ± 1.38 mm, the width was 7.26 ± 0.32 mm, and the thickness was 1.58 ± 0.14 mm. The histology of the tongue showed that the dorsal and ventral surfaces are covered with keratinized multilayered squamous epithelium; there are taste buds in the epithelial layer, the number of taste buds is higher especially on the root of the tongue; and the presence of paraglossum, which is in the hyaline cartilage structure. The volume of the tongue was on an average of 374.2 ± 14.08 mm3., Bozdoğan, doğangiller (Falconidae) familyasının en küçük kuş türü olup Amerika, Avrupa ve Asya’nın kuzey bölgelerinde, Ortadoğu ve Orta Asya’da yaşar. Kanatlılarda diş, dudak ve yanak gibi organlar bulunmadığından dil beslenme ile ilgili önemli fonksiyonları yerine getirmektedir. Beslenme alışkanlıklarındaki farklılıklar sonucunda morfolojik olarak oldukça farklılık göstermektedir. Bu çalışmamızda beş adet ergin bozdoğandan (falco columbarius) elde edilen diller morfolojik ve stereolojik olarak incelenmiştir. Morfolojik incelemelerimiz sonucu bozdoğan dilinin ince, uzun ve dikdörtgen şeklinde, ön kısmının oval olduğu, corpus linquae'sı ile radix linguae’sı arasında papilla linguales caudales’lerin bulunduğu tespit edildi. Ölçümlerimiz sonucunda ise dilin uzunluğunun ortalama 26,32 ± 1,38 mm, eninin ortalama 7,26 ± 0,32 mm, kalınlığının ise 1,58 ± 0,14 mm olduğu saptandı. Histolojik incelemelerimizde bozdoğan dilinin dorsal ve ventral yüzeyinin keratinize çok katlı yassı epitel ile kaplı olduğu, epitel katman içerisinde özellikle radix lingua tarafında sayısı artan biçimde tat tomurcukları bulunduğu ve dil dokusu içerisinde sağlı sollu bulunan ve hyalin kıkırdak yapısında olan paraglossum’un varlığı saptandı. Dilin stereolojik olarak hesapladığımız hacmi ise ortalama 374.2 ± 14.08 mm3 olarak tespit edilmiştir.

Bursa fabricius(Bursa cloacalis or Bursa fabricii) is a lymphoepithelial organ of poultry andserves as the primary lymphoid organ. In addition to the development anddifferentiation of Bursa Fabricius B lymphocytes, immunoglobulin is alsoresponsible for isotype change. Bursa fabricius is also seen as a secondarylymphoid organ due to the presence of a small T-lymphocyte cluster in thechannel opening to cloaca, but early development of the organ is delayed. Inthis study, morphological and stereological examinations were performed onbursa fabricius obtained from 5 adult Merlin (Falco columbarius). Ourmorphological studies have shown that the bursa fabricius of merlin is locatedon the cloaca and that it is opened to proctodeum through a canal. We saw that it was oval shaped and had plumsmade by the mucosa layer in the lumen. The size of these structures was foundto be 15,62 ± 1,41 mm, 10.14 ± 0,66 mm in the widest area and 0.98 ± 0,07 mm in the shortest area. Thevolume we calculated by the stereological methods was 0.190 ± 0,008 cm3. The morphological structure ofbursa fabricius in merlin was determined and the volume was calculated bystereological method and it was thought that it might be the source of futurestudies in the species differentiation in poultry., Bursa fabricius(Bursa cloacalis veya Bursa fabricii) kanatlıların lenfoepitelial bir organıolup kanatlıların primer lenfoid organı organı olarak görev yapmaktadır. Blenfositlerinin gelişim ve farklılaşmasının yanında immunoglobulin izotipdeğişminden de sorumludur. Bursa fabricius cloaca’ya açılan kanalında küçük birT lenfosit kümesi bulunduğundan dolayı aynı zamanda sekonder lenfoid organolarak da görülmektedir ancak erken dönemde organın gelişimi gerilemektedir. Buçalışmada 5 adet ergin bozdoğandan (Falcocolumbarius) elde edilen bursa fabricius’lar üzerinde morfolojik vestereolojik incelemeler yapıldı. Morfolojik incelemeler sonucundabozdoğan’larda bursa fabricius’un cloaca üzerinde bulunduğu, bir kanalvasıtasıyla proctodeum’a açıldığı, şeklinin oval olduğu ve lümeninde mukozakatmanı tarafından yapılmış plikalar bulunduğu gözlemlendi. Bu yapıların boyu15,62 ± 1,41 mm, eni en uzun bölgede 10.14 ± 0,66 mm en kısa bölgede ise 0.98 ±0,07 mm olarak saptandı. Stereolojikyöntemle yapılan hesaplamalarda hacmi 0.190 ± 0,008 cm3 olaraktespit edildi. Bozdoğanda bursa fabricius’un morfolojik yapısı ortaya konarakstereolojik metotla hacmi hesaplanmış olup, kanatlılarda tür ayrımında ilerideyapılacak çalışmalara kaynak olabileceği düşünüldü.

Sinoatrial (SA) and Atrioventricular (AV) nodes are responsible for the nerve conduction of the hearth, that provides electricial signals for normal cardiac rhythm. In this study we investigated the nevre nodes of the water buffalos by means of the stereological methods. SA node and AV node from the water buffalo heart obtained from slaughter house were dissected and fixed into the 10 % neutral formaldehyte sollution. After the histological processing of the tissue, we investigated the serial sections in stereologically. The pale stained nodal areas that include smaller fibers and perinuclear cells were identified in sinoatrial nodes. The dimensions of the sinoatrial node were ~18 mm x 2.9 mm x 2 mm and the volume was 122.83 mm3. The atrioventricular node located just under the endocardium of the interatrial septum, at the level of valva tricuspitalis and above the os cordis. The dimensions of the atrioventriculer node were ~9 mm x 4.3 mm x 3.1 mm and the volume was 119.03 mm3., Kalbin sinir düğümleri (nodus sinoatrialis ve nodus atrioventricularis) kendine has olan iletim sisteminin bir parçası olarak görev yapan birimler olup, kalbin normal ritminde çalışması için gerekli elektriksel iletimleri sağlar. Bu çalışmamızda yöresel olarak öneme sahip olan mandaların kalbinde sinir düğümlerini stereolojik metodlar kullanarak inceledik. Mezbahadan temin ettiğimiz manda kalplerinde öncelikle sinir düğümlerinin olduğu bölgeler diseke edildi ve %10’luk nötral formaldehit çözeltisinde tespit edildi. Doku takibi ve parafine gömme aşamalarının ardından sinoatriyal düğüm için ~1.7 mm, atriyoventriküler düğüm için ~0.9 mm aralıklar bırakılarak 5 μm kalınlığında kesitler alındı ve bu kesitlerde stereolojik olarak hesaplamalar yapıldı. İncelemelerimiz sonucu sinoatriyal düğümlerde daha soluk boyanan, daha küçük çapta lifler taşıyan ve perinüklear bölge hücreleri içeren düğüm bölgelerini tespit ettik ve ölçümlerimiz sonucu sinoatriyal düğüm boyutunu ~18mm x 2.9mm x 2mm, hacmini ise 122.83 mm3 olarak tespit ettik. Atriyoventriküler düğümün ise atrium dextrum’un duvarında endocardium’un hemen altında triküspit kapakçıklar hizasında ve os cordis’in hemen üzerinde olduğunu, bölge koroner arterlerinin ramus interventricularis’lerden çıkarak interatrial bölgeye giden damarlarla kanlandığını ve yine bu bölgede purkinje sinir hücrelerinin varlığını tespit ettik. Ölçümlerimiz sonucu atrioventriculer düğüm boyutunu ~9 mm x 4.3 mm x 3.1 mm, hacmini ise 119.03 mm3 olarak tespit ettik.

Veteriner anatomi eğitiminde teknolojik gelişmeler de göz önüne alınarak bilgisayar destekli simülasyon ve plastik modeller gibi modern ve alternatif eğitim araçlarının kullanımı yaygın hale gelmiştir. Ancak bu alternatif eğitim araçları anatomi eğitimi sırasında canlı vücudundaki gerçek detayları ya da olası varyasyonları göstermeleri açısından tek başlarına yeterli olmamaktadır. Bu çalışmada geleneksel eğitim araçlarından olan gerçek iskelet modellerinin öğrencilerin öğrenimleri üzerine etkisini inceledik. Çalışmamızda Mehmet Akif Ersoy Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Anatomi Anabilim Dalı’ndan temin edilen gerçek iskelet modelleri Anatomi I dersinde Lokomotor Sistem konularında uygulama derslerinde kullanıldı. Modellerin etkinliğini ve öğrenci beklentilerini ölçmek için 32 maddeden oluşan Likert tipi tutum ölçeği geliştirildi. Ölçekteki maddeler “motivasyon”, “öğrenme-anlama” ve “gelecekte bilgiyi kullanma” boyutları olarak alt gruplara ayrılarak değerlendirildi. Tutum ölçeği 2014-2015 ve 2015-2016 eğitim-öğretim dönemi öğrencilerine uygulandı. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 13.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) kullanılarak çözümlendi. Verilerin analizinde aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma ve bağımsız gruplar t testi uygulandı. Ölçek sonuçlarında “motivasyon” boyutunda yer alan toplam 11 görüşün tutum puanlarının tamamının aritmetik ortalamasının 4,32 olduğu görüldü. “Öğrenme-anlama” boyutunda yer alan toplam 16 görüşün tutum puanlarının tamamının aritmetik ortalaması ise 4,47 olarak bulundu. Değerler, öğrencilerin modern eğitim araçlarının yanında geleneksel bir eğitim aracı olan gerçek iskeletlerin de kullanılmasını istediklerini ve kullanılan bu modellerin “motivasyon” ve “öğrenme-anlama” boyutunda faydalı olduğunu düşündükleri şeklinde yorumlandı. “Gelecekte bilgiyi kullanma” boyutuna ilişkin toplam 5 görüşün aritmetik ortalaması sırasıyla 4,26’dır. Sonuçlar öğrencilerin eğitim sürecinde kullanılan gerçek iskelet modelleri ile öğrendiklerini daha iyi ve etkili aktarabileceklerini düşündüklerini göstermektedir. Sonuç olarak, plastik modeller ve bilgisayar destekli simülasyonlar gibi modern eğitim araçları, geleneksel eğitim araçlarının yanında alternatif olabilirler. Ancak bu eğitim araçları hayvan kadavralarından elde edilmiş gerçek materyaller kadar varyasyon ve detayları yansıtmadığından, bunları tek başına etkin bir eğitim aracı olarak değerlendirmek doğru değildir. Bundan dolayı modern eğitim araçlarının yanında gerçek iskelet modelleri gibi canlı hayvandan elde edilmiş geleneksel eğitim araçları Anatomi eğitiminde kendine her zaman yer bulacaktır., Considering the technological evolution, using modern and alternative approaches like simulation based computer tecnologies or plastic anatomical models in teaching veterinary medicine is become widespread. But these alternative approaches are not enough to indicate the realistic details or possible variations on the living being. This study evaluated the effect of using real skeleton models on the students’ learning motivation.In this study, real skeleton models produced by Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Anatomy Department were used at Anatomy I courses. To measure expectations of the students, Likert-type attitude scale of 32 questions were developed. The Rubrics for attitude scale’s sub-groups were allocated as “motivation", "learning-understanding", and "using the information in the future”. The Attitude scale was applied to the students who were studying in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 academic period. The data was analyzed using SPSS 13.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences), which included arithmetic mean, standard deviation and independent groups t- test.The “motivation” scale had 11 questions and the average score was 4,32. The “learning- understanding” scale had 16 questions and the average score was 4.47. The findings in the “motivation” and “learning-understanding” scale showed that students preferred and found useful the use of real skeleton models in their learning. The “using information in the future” scale had 5 questions. Its data produced an average of 4,26. The findings of the “Using the information in the future” showed that the students learned better and retained the information longer when real skeleton models were used as a tool in their trainings.In conclusion, plastic anatomical models and computer based simulations could be an alternative educational tools along with the traditional approaches like real skeleton models. However, the use of plastic anatomical models or computer based simulations as an educational tool would not be as effective if it used alone due to lack of variations and details. Fort this reason modern approaches should use with traditional tools on anatomy education.

Sunulan bu çalışmada 6 adet pırlak koyununun böbrek hacimleri stereolojik metotlarla hesaplanmıştır. Hesaplamalar koyunlardan üçünün sağ böbrekleri ve üçününde sol böbrekleri üzerinde gerçekleştirildi. Böbrek hacimleri stereolojik bir metot olan Cavalieri Prensibi ile ölçüldü. Ortalama böbrek hacimleri 77 cm3 (CE=0,03) olarak, korteks, medulla ve pelvis bölgelerinin hacim oranlarıda toplam hacmin %62, %34 ve %4’i olarak bulundu. Sonuç olarak Cavalieri Prensibinin uygulanması kolay ve böbrek bölgelerinin hacimlerini ayrı ayrı hesaplanmasına olanak sağlayan bir metot olduğu saptanmıştır., In this study we aimed to estimate the volume of the kidneys on six Pirlak sheeps; three of them right and three of them left kidneys volume was calculated by stereological method, Cavalieri Principles. The mean volume of the kidneys was found as mean 77 cm3 (CE=0.03) by using Cavalieri Principles, and volume ratios of the cortex, medulla and pelvis are 62%, 34% and 4%, respectively. Our results showed that using the Cavalieri Principle is simple and unbiased and it is the method that can calculate the ratios between the regions of the kidney.

Sunulan bu çalışmada, şinşilla plexus lı/mbosacratis’mm makroanatomik yapısı ve innervasyon alanları incelendi. Toplam 12 adet, 6 dişi ve 6 erkek ergin şinşilla kullanıldı. Plexus lumbosacralis in son dört lumbal (L3, L4, L5, L6) ve ilk iki sacral (Sİ ve S2’nci) spinal sinirin ventral dallanndan oluştuğu gözlendi. Trmıcus lumbosacralis ise esasen L5, L6 ve Sl’den oluşmaktaydı. N. cutaneus femoris lateralis ile //. genitofemoralisin aynı yerden (L3) çıktığı gözlendi. Yine 1 dişi kadavrada //. genitofemoralis'At n. ilioingtdnaliS'vcs ramus cutaneus ventralis isimli dalı arasında lif alış¬verişi tespit edildi. N. femoralis ve //. obtnratorinSun ortak bir kök halinde L4’ten başlangıç almaktaydı. N. cutaneus femoris caudalis’m, esasen Sl’den başlayıp trmıcus lumbosacralis ile kominikasyon yaptığı saptandı. Yine 2 erkek ve 1 dişi kadavrada bu sinirin trmıcus InmbosacraliS ten çıkan dallar tarafından oluştuğu gözlendi. N. pndendı/Sun Sl’den çıkmaktadır fakat başlangıç aldıktan hemen sonra //. rectalis candaliS\t birleştiği ve tekrar bu sinirden ayrıldığı saptandı. N. rectalis caııdalism S2’den başlangıç aldığı kaydedildi. Macro-anatomical structure and innervation areas of the Chinchilla’s plexus lumbosacralis was investigated in this study. 6 adult male and 6 female healthy chinchillas were obtained from the producer. It was observed that the plexus lumbosacralis consists of the ventral roots of the last four lumbar (L3, L4, L5, L6) and the first two sacral (S1 and S2) spinal nerves ventral roots. Truncus lumbosacralis was essentially formed by L5, L6 and S1. N. cutaneus femoris lateralis and n. genitofemoralis started from at the same root with L3. In one female cadaver there was a fiber connection between n. genitofemoralis and ramus cutaneus ventralis which is a branch of n. ilioinguinalis’s. N. femoralis and n. obturatoriuis origin had the same root with L4. N. cutaneus femoris caudalis was formed essentially by S1 and it was making communication with the truncus lumbosacralis. In two male and one female cadaver it was formed by the truncus lumbosacralis. Originating from S1, n. pudendus joined immediately to the n. rectalis caudalis and branched from the later. N. rectalis caudalis was formed by S2.

Amaç: Böbreklerin ve alt bileşen hacimlerinin bilinmesi tedavide ya da gerçekleştirilecek olan çalışmalarda göz önünde bulundurulması gereken kritik önemi olan bölgelerdir. Sunulan bu çalışma beş adet erkek ve beş adet dişi yetişkin şinşillanın sağ ve sol böbrekleri üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiş olup böbreklerin total ve alt bileşenlerinin hacimlerinin hesaplanması amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada beş adet dişi ve beş adet erkek yetişkin şinşillanın sağ ve sol böbreklerinin toplam ve alt bileşenlerinin hacimleri hesaplandı. Arşimet prensibi sadece toplam hacim ölçümünde kullanılırken Cavalieri metodu böbreklerin hem toplam hem de alt bileşenlerinin hacim hesaplanmasında kullanıldı. Bulgular: Analizler sonucunda ortalama böbrek hacimleri Arşimet prensibine göre erkekler için 1.11 cm³ iken dişiler için 0.94 cm³ olarak bulundu. Cavalieri metoduna göreyse bu değer erkekler için 0.97 cm³ iken dişiler içinse 0.84 cm³ olarak hesaplandı. Korteks, medulla ve pelvisin yüzde oranları da erkekler için %71, %26, %3 ve dişiler içinde %71, %27, %2 olarak bulundu. Metotlar ve cinsler arasında, cinsler içinde ve böbrekler arasında istatistiksel olarak karşılaştırma yapıldığında herhangi bir önem (p>0.05) bulunamadı. Öneri: Böbreğin toplam hacmi hem Arşimet prensibi hem de Cavalieri metoduyla ölçülebilir. Ancak böbreğin alt bileşenleri sadece Cavalieri metoduyla hesaplanabilir. Sunulan bu çalışmada şinşilla böbreğinin toplam ve alt bileşenlerinin hacimleri morfolojik olarak ortaya konmuştur. Böbrek üzerinde yapılacak olan deneysel çalışmalarda bu bölgelerin hacimlerinin ölçülmesi çalışmaya katkı sağlayacaktır., Aim: It is critically important to know the volume of the kidneys, which are vital for the body, in order to use the volume data for the treatment or to contribute to other studies. Thus present study aimed to estimate the total and subcomponent volume of the kidney in the chinchilla.Materials and Methods: The present study was estimated the total and subcomponents volume of left and right kidneys of five male and five female adult chinchillas. The kidneys’ total volume was measured by both Archimedean Principle and Cavalieri method while the volumes of the subcomponents were estimated by Cavalieri method. All estimated parameters were compared by statistically. Results: The mean volume of the kidneys’ was estimated as 1.11 cm³ for males and 0.94 cm³ for females by Archimedean principle. However it was 0.97 cm³ for males and 0.84 cm³ for females by Cavalieri method. The volume fractions of the kidney cortex, medulla and pelvis were 71%, 26%, 3% for the male and 71%, 27%, 2% for the female, respectively. Moreover all parameters such as weight, volume and volume fractions were statistically evaluated and no significant difference (p>0.05) was observed between the right and left kidneys and between the genders. Conclusion: The total volume of the kidney could be estimated by both Archimadean principle and Cavalieri method. However, the volume of the subcomponents in the kidney could only be estimated by Cavalieri method. Actually, total and subcomponent volume estimations of the kidney will contribute the findings of the experimental studies. It was concluded that this stereological study could provide a valuable contribution to future studies performed on kidney

Amaç: Sunulan bu çalışmada bir nesnenin hacminin hesaplanması için tarafsız ve etkin bir metot olan Cavalieri metodunun invitro olarak köpek testisi üzerine uygulanabilirliği araştırılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada 5 adet yetişkin köpekten alınan testisler kullanıldı. Arşimet prensibi ile hacimleri hesaplanan testislerin daha sonra Cavalieri metodu uygulanarak hacimleri hesaplandı ve sonuçlar karşılaştırıldı.Bulgular: Yapılan ölçümler neticesinde sağ ve sol testisler için hacim ortalama olarak Arşimet prensibince 18.72 cm3, Cavalieri metoduyla da 18.25 cm3 olarak bulunmuştur. Bu Tez Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Bilimsel Araştırma Projeleri Komisyonunca 07.VF.08 Numaralı Proje ile Desteklenmiştir Testisler erkeklerde üremeyle ilgili bir çift organdır. Spermatozoa ve testosteron hormonu üretiminden sorumludurlar. Testosteron hormonu Leydig hücrelerinden salgılanır. Biz bu çalışmamızda on iki adet Yeni Zelanda Tavşanının testislerindeki Leydig hücrelerini stereolojik metotlarla saydık. Sayımlar tavşanlardan altısının sağ testisleri altısının da sol testisleri üzerinde gerçekleştirildi. Testisler Düz (Smooth) Parçalama metoduyla örneklendi ve Leydig hücreleri Optik Disektör sondaları kullanılarak sayıldı. Ortalama Leydig hücre sayısı her bir testis için 28x106, hata katsayısı CE(N) 0,082 ve CV’de 0,14 olarak bulundu. Çıkan bu sonuçlar stereolojik açıdan uygun bulunmuştur. Sonuçlar stereolojik metotlar ve varsayıma dayalı metotlardan elde edilen sonuçlarla karşılaştırıldı. Veriler stereolojik çalışmalardan elde edilen verilerle uyuşurken, varsayıma dayalı çalışmalardan elde edilen verilerden farklıydı. Araştırmalarımız sonucunda varsayıma dayalı metotların aynı türe uygulansa bile farklı sonuçlara ulaştığı gözlemlenmiştir. Testicles are paired organs that related with the reproduction of the males. They produce spermatozoa and testosterone hormone. That hormone secrets from the Leydig cells. In this study our aim was to count the 12 New Zealand Rabbit’s Leydig cells by stereological methods. The results were compared with model-based methods. Testicles were sampled using smooth fractionator approach and Leydig cell number was estimated via optical disectors. Counts were performed on six rabbit’s right and six rabbit’s left testis. The mean leydig cell number was found 28x106 for one testis. The mean CE(N) was 0.082 and the CV was 0.14. We concluded these findings are well matched with other stereological studies which performed on testicles. But results were different from model-based studies. Because model-based methods generates erroneus values. They produce different results when they apply even on the same species.

Sinir sistemi hastalıkları hastayı olduğu kadar toplumun da yaşam kalitesini etkilemektedir. Yaşam kalitesindeki bozuklukların yanı sıra hastalıkların tedavi süreçleri de, ekonomiye önemli bir yük getirmektedir. Bundan dolayı oluşturulan hayvan modelleri üzerinde çeşitli koruyucu tedavi yöntemleri denenerek hastalıklar daha başlamadan önlenmeye çalışılmaktadır. Sinir sistemi üzerinde son yıllarda yapılan araştırmalar cevizin faydalı etkisinin olabileceğini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu çalışmada MK-801 kimyasalıyla oluşturulan deney modelinde BALB/C farelerde beyin hasarı gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma her grupta 8 erkek BALB/C fare olacak şekilde 5 gruptan oluşmaktadır. Gruplar; kontrol grubu, %9 ceviz grubu, MK-801 grubu, %6 ceviz+MK-801 ve %9 ceviz+MK-801 gruplarından oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada kontrol grubu ile MK-801 grubu normal yemle, %9 ceviz grubu yemine %9 oranında ceviz katılan yemle, %6 ceviz+MK-801 grubu yemine %6 oranında ceviz katılan yemle ve %9 ceviz+MK-801 grubu da yemine %9 oranında ceviz katılan yemle 1 ay boyunca beslenmiştir. Besleme süresi boyunca hayvanlara herhangi bir ilaç uygulaması yapılmamıştır. Bu süre sonunda MK-801, %6 ceviz+MK-801 ve %9 ceviz+MK-801 gruplarına 14 gün boyunca intraperitoneal yolla MK-801 (1mg/kg) uygulanmıştır. Aynı süre boyunca kontrol ve %9’luk ceviz gruplarına da fizyolojik tuzlu su (10 ml/kg) uygulaması yapılmıştır. Deneylerden sonra tüm hayvanlar sakrifiye edilip beyin hücrelerinde apoptozis ve demiyelinizasyona bakılmıştır. Hücrelerde apoptozisin gözlenmesi için Tunel boyası, miyelin tabakası için de Kluver-Barrera ve miyelin temel protein boyaları kullanılmıştır. Değerlendirmelerde ceviz yedirilen gruplarda istatistiksel olarak apoptozis ve demiyelinizasyonun MK-801 grubundan daha iyi olduğu ancak kontroller kadar iyi olmadığı gözlenmiştir. Hayvanların deney başlangıcı ve deney sonunda ki ağırlıkları karşılaştırıldığında ise ceviz yedirilen grupların ağırlıklarının diğer gruplara göre istatistiksel olarak daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. Sonuç olarak ceviz yemenin beyindeki dejenerasyona karşı nispeten iyi geldiği ancak kilo alımına da sebep olduğu görülmüştür. Gelecekte cevizin oranı azaltılarak farklı antioksidanlarla ya da çeşitli egzersiz uygulamalarıyla kombinasyonlarının yapılarak konunun derinlemesine araştırılmasının faydalı olacağına inanılmaktadır. The nervous system disorders affect the life quality of the society as much as the patient. Nervous system disorders economics has developed rapidly over recent decades. Protection from the disorders become more important recently because of the economic burden. Therefore some animal models were developed, and various treatments were tested. The walnut was administered protective aimed in this study is one of the recent protective treatment method because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients, primarly. The MK-801 preferred model in this study is the important neurotoxic chemical. It causes degeneration in the brain. The aim of this study is to observe the protective effect of the dietary walnut against the brain degeneration induced with the MK-801. The present study consist of the 5 groups of 40 male mice. All the mice were distributed to the groups equally. The groups formed with the control group, 9% dietary walnut group, MK-801 group, 6% dietary walnut+MK-801 group and 9% dietary walnut+MK-801 group. While the control and MK-801 groups were fed with the normal mice diet, the 6% and %9 dietary walnut groups were fed with the walnuts added to the daily diet for 1 month. The MK-801, 6% dietary walnut+MK-801 group and 9% dietary walnut+MK-801 group’s were injected 1mg/kg walnut and control and 9% groups were injected 10ml/kg physiological saline during 14 days after the feedings. Apoptosis and demyelination were evaluated after the sacrification of the animals at the end of the trials. Apoptotic cells were stained with the Tunnel method and the myelin sheet was stained both with the Kluver-Barrera and myelin basic protein stains. The values of the apoptosis and demyelination were between the control and MK-801 groups, statistically significant. The protective activity of the walnut groups were better than the MK-801 group however, not as good as controls. Besides these findings the walnut adding to the daily diet was gained the animal weights, statistically. In conclusion, the walnut added to the daily diet causes the gain weight whereas relatively protect the brain degeneration. The combination of the lower walnut diet with the other antioxidants or gym training may consider in the following studies. Bu reseptörün hipofonksiyonuna aynı zamanda onun bir antagonisti olan MK-801'inde sebep olduğu deney hayvanları üzerinde gözlemlenmiştir. Sunulan bu çalışmada fareler üzerinde MK-801 kullanılarak lokomotor hiperaktivite oluşturulması hedeflenmiş ve oluşan hiperaktiviteye karşı koruyucu olarak resveratrol ve n-asetilsistein antioksidan kombinasyonunun en düşük etkin dozu araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla 84 adet dişi fare alınmış, fareler gruplarda eşit sayıda olacak şekilde 14 eşit gruba ayrılmıştır. Koruyucu amaçlı olarak verilen antioksidan kombinasyonu 8 grupta resveratrol (50, 40, 20 ve 10mg/kg- intraperitoneal (i.p.)) ve n-asetilsistein (100, 80, 40 ve 20mg/kg-i.p.) sırasıyla kombin yapılarak tatbik edilmiştir. İlacın vücutta akut ve subakut etkisini gözlemleyebilmek için oluşturulan bu 8 grubun 4'ü akut (1 gün) ve 4'ü de subakut (4 gün) olarak belirlenmiştir. In the present study, it was aimed that to find the effective lower dose of the combined antioxidants such as resveratrol and n-acetylcysteine (NAC) against the locomotor hyperactivity induced with the MK-801. For this aim, the 84 female mice were divided into 14 groups, equally. The drugs resveratrol (50, 40, 20 and 10mg/kg- intraperitoneally (i.p.)) and NAC (100, 80, 40 and 20mg/kg-i.p.), were combined, respectively. These combined doses were administered to the acute (1 day) and subacute (4 days) groups. Beside the combined drug groups, control (physiological saline administered 10ml/kg, i.p.), MK-801 (1mg/kg-i.p.), clozapine (5mg/kg-i.p.), clozapine (positive control- 5mg/kg-i.p) + MK-801 (1mg/kg-i.p.), resveratrol (50mg/kg-i.p.) and NAC (100mg/kg-i.p.) groups were also designed. After the drug administrations, the travelled distance of the animals were recorded with the video camera in the open field test device for 10 minutes. According to the findings, in the acute groups the drug combination was successful on the locomotor hyperactivity than the subacute. The drug combination is also successful even at the lower dose. The glutamatergic system and its receptorN-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) is an important synapse mechanism in the nervoussystem. The MK-801 is the blocker of this receptor and according to theliterature, the sub-chronic administration of 1mg/kg MK-801 resulted inschizophrenia-like symptoms and degeneration in the mice brain. The aim of thepresent study was to observe whether this dose of MK-801 has any pathologicaleffect on the liver and kidney tissues and whether N-acetylcysteine (NAC) was aprotective effect. For this purpose, the 24 Balb/C male mice were divided into4 groups, equally. The first group was the control and 0.9% saline (10mg/kg)was intraperitoneally (i.p.) injected. The 1mg/kg MK-801 was i.p. administeredto the second group. The third group was i.p. received 1mg/kg MK-801, 100 mg/kgNAC and finally the 100mg/kg NAC i.p. injected to the fourth group. The drugadministration was ended on the 14th day. The kidney and the liverof the sacrificed mice were collected and routine histology procedure wasapplied. The histopathological changes in the organs and NAC’s mostlyprotective effect were noticed after the observations. Buamaçla 24 adet erkek Balb/C faresi alınarak dört eşit gruba bölündü. İlk grupkontrollerden oluştu ve bu gruba %0,9 fizyolojik tuzlu su (10mg/kg)intraperitoneal (i.p.) yolla, ikinci gruba 1mg/kg dozunda MK-801 i.p., üçüncügruba 1mg/kg MK-801 ile 100mg/kg NAS birlikte i.p ve dördüncü gruba da 100mg/kgNAS i.p. yolla verildi. İlaç uygulamaları 14 gün boyunca sürdü. Sakrifiyeedilen farelerin karaciğer ve böbrekleri alınarak bunlara rutin histolojiprosedürü uygulandı. İncelemelerden sonra organlarda histopatolojikdeğişkilikler ve NAS’ın genelde koruyucu etkisinin olduğu gözlendi. Sonuçolarak NAS’ın böbrek ve karaciğer üzerinde MK-801’le indüklenen histopatolojikdeğişikliklere karşı önemli bir koruyucu etkisinin olduğu ortaya kondu.

Bursa fabricius (Bursa cloacalis veya Bursa fabricii) kanatlıların lenfoepitelial bir organı olup kanatlıların primer lenfoid organı organı olarak görev yapmaktadır. B lenfositlerinin gelişim ve farklılaşmasının yanında immunoglobulin izotip değişminden de sorumludur. Bursa fabricius cloaca’ya açılan kanalında küçük bir T lenfosit kümesi bulunduğundan dolayı aynı zamanda sekonder lenfoid organ olarak da görülmektedir ancak erken dönemde organın gelişimi gerilemektedir. Bu çalışmada 5 adet ergin bozdoğandan (Falco columbarius) elde edilen bursa fabricius’lar üzerinde morfolojik ve stereolojik incelemeler yapıldı. Morfolojik incelemeler sonucunda bozdoğan’larda bursa fabricius’un cloaca üzerinde bulunduğu, bir kanal vasıtasıyla proctodeum’a açıldığı, şeklinin oval olduğu ve lümeninde mukoza katmanı tarafından yapılmış plikalar bulunduğu gözlemlendi. Bu yapıların boyu 15,62 ± 1,41 mm, eni en uzun bölgede 10.14 ± 0,66 mm en kısa bölgede ise 0.98 ± 0,07 mm olarak saptandı. Stereolojik yöntemle yapılan hesaplamalarda hacmi 0.190 ± 0,008 cm3 olarak tespit edildi. Bozdoğanda bursa fabricius’un morfolojik yapısı ortaya konarak stereolojik metotla hacmi hesaplanmış olup, kanatlılarda tür ayrımında ileride yapılacak çalışmalara kaynak olabileceği düşünüldü. Bursa fabricius (Bursa cloacalis or Bursa fabricii) is a lymphoepithelial organ of poultry and serves as the primary lymphoid organ. In addition to the development and differentiation of Bursa Fabricius B lymphocytes, immunoglobulin is also responsible for isotype change. Bursa fabricius is also seen as a secondary lymphoid organ due to the presence of a small T-lymphocyte cluster in the channel opening to cloaca, but early development of the organ is delayed. In this study, morphological and stereological examinations were performed on bursa fabricius obtained from 5 adult Merlin (Falco columbarius). Our morphological studies have shown that the bursa fabricius of merlin is located on the cloaca and that it is opened to proctodeum through a canal. We saw that it was oval shaped and had plums made by the mucosa layer in the lumen. The size of these structures was found to be 15,62 ± 1,41 mm, 10.14 ± 0,66 mm in the widest area and 0.98 ± 0,07 mm in the shortest area. The volume we calculated by the stereological methods was 0.190 ± 0,008 cm3. The morphological structure of bursa fabricius in merlin was determined and the volume was calculated by stereological method and it was thought that it might be the source of future studies in the species differentiation in poultry.
