Acre is a port city in the north-western part of Israel, with a history that goes back more than 4000 years. Being inscribed on the World Heritage List, the Old City of Acre preserves the urban and architectural elements of a historic town. Its outstanding value relies on the Crusader remnants preserved under the Ottoman city, showcasing the dynamism and continuous change of Mediterranean port cities. Moreover, the presence of various religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Bahai, adds to its complexity, expressed as monuments and religious sites that enrichen Acre’s cultural heritage. The dramatic change in values over the past decades has a direct impact on the built environment and the citizen’s lifestyles, in some cases jeopardising the physical elements and drastically influencing people’s lives. This paper aims to analyse the changes linked to the sea: livelihoods, tourism, and recreational use; and the change of use of the khan, as both the sea and the khan are constant elements in the city. The analysis of these processes serves as the starting point to identify changes in values which can enhance development or promote gentrification, and in the case of Khan Al-Umdan and its vicinity, we aim to recognise the lights and shadows that followed the adaptive reuse evaluation procedure, and the influence of the multiple narratives in its development. The conclusions will provide a solid base on which to develop a methodology on the one hand, identify changing processes, such as gentrification; and on the other, to evaluate adaptive reuse alternatives of cultural heritage in contested societies and changing values.

- Abstract
In this article, the subject of “Shipyards and naval operations bases built and installed on the Eastern Mediterranean coasts of Syria-Palestine during the Umayyads and Abbasids” is discussed. The aim of the research is to reveal the importance and importance of the shipyards and naval operations bases built and installed on the East Mediterranean coasts of Syria-Palestine during the Umayyad and Abbasid period. The fact that no research has been done in our country on this subject gives the study a unique quality. Our research is based on the literature review and the subject of the article is examined in all aspects. Our study consists of subtitles of Akkâ Naval Base and Shipyard, Tarsus Naval Base and Shipyard, Saydâ and Sûr Naval Bases and Shipyards. It is known that all three sides of the Islamic world were surrounded by the seas during the Umayyad and Abbasid periods. Byzantine and Hind navies have dominated these seas ever since. Therefore, Islamic lands are open to enemy navy attacks that may come from the sea. This situation has prompted Muslim state administrators to prepare Islamic navy / naval power. In this context, the shipyards and pools that existed on the coasts before conquest were repaired, and new warships were built in these shipyards by making use of the existing masters and craftsmen. These ports, where the shipyards are located, have been re-equipped in the concept of military structuring and naval and naval operations bases have been established. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Spatio-temporal events often describe the movements of an object in terms of space, time, and potential other attributes. Significant knowledge can be inferred by analysing them, either individually or atomically in form of trajectories. The trajectories can abstract additional properties and lead to deeper value. Moreover, external contextual information can be attributed to them to change their structure and lead to different perspectives. Because of this potentially valuable knowledge, nowadays indoor and outdoor tracking devices are used everywhere; generating countless events instantaneously. However, the extraction of knowledge from such heterogeneous, massive data is not a trivial task. In other terms, there is a need for a sophisticated system that is efficient in terms of distributed computing, failure handling, responsiveness, and abstraction. To answer this need, our study incorporates a fully fledged, reactive system for big trajectory data management. The system is unique of its kind because it is actor-based and features responsiveness, resiliency, and elasticity. Furthermore, our system is implemented using Scala; hence, we have the expressive power of both the Object-Oriented (OO) and Functional Programming (FP) paradigms. Allowing us to reach a higher level of abstraction to be able to process any trajectory type. The scope of this paper is to detail our system and discuss elasticity, routing strategies, load balancing, and our proper fault-tolerance mechanism. To fulfill this study, we consider the Geolife project's GPS trajectory dataset. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Having been ruled by such civilizations as Phoenicians, Babylonia, the Roman Empire, Umayyad, and Abbasids for centuries, the city of Acre showed differences in terms of administrative, social and economic affairs up until the 11th century. Beginning with its conquest by the Fatimid Empire, this city came under the rule of a state ruled by Shi'ite Muslims towards the end of the 10th century. It was conquered by the Seljuk Empire in 1074 but remained under the Crusade's power for two centuries following the Crusades. However, upon being conquered by The Ayyubids under Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi, it earned the status of the capital city of the Jeruselam Kingdom, which continued until it was conquered by the Mamluk Sultanate. Not only invasions of the city by Jews and Christians but also Islamic conquests contributed a great deal to the transformation of the ethnic and social structures of Acre. Being one of the earliest territories where Islam spread, this city maintained its religion-based significance for a very long time considering its closeness to Jeruselam, which is viewed as sacred in all the three monotheistic religions. As to its significance for the economy, Acre is located along the seashore of a strategically important geography like the Middle East, where various marine trades have been carried out through business operations for centuries. The present study has the purpose of discussing who the city of Acre was administered by, from the 11th to 12th, apart from its social characteristics and economic operations conducted there. BIG data ,DATA management ,SCALABILITY ,EXPONENTIAL functions ,SPATIAL behavior - Abstract
Nowadays, distributed systems have become requisite to process and analyse the large amount of generated data. In particular, spatio-temporal data has known an exponential growth in the last years. This could be explained by the proliferation of indoor and outdoor tracking devices and the value of the knowledge that can be extracted from their analysis. The data describe a moving objects' behavior in space and time. Once these coordinates are assembled they form a raw trajectory. The knowledge extracted by analysing the set of trajectories is very valuable; they can be even mapped to other contextual data to add value. Preprocessing is an essential step in the mining process to filter unnecessary records and clean the noise. Furthermore, reactive systems offer the possibility to process massive data in a non-blocking, resilient, responsive and elastic manner. Despite this interest, to the best of our knowledge no works have been conducted into offering a reactive system to preprocess massive trajectories. The aim of this study is to fill this gap by proposing a reactive system based on distributed actors to manage big trajectory data. Our system is deployed with the Play Framework, Akka, MongoDB, AngularJS and D3.js. Initially, the system can load batches of trajectories stored in HDFS in a distributed manner. The scope of our study is to provide an overview of the system, to study the impact of the increase in computing resources over the scalability, and to provide the optimal node configuration. The results indicate a higher scalability of the system, and the evaluation is conducted by considering the Geolife project's GPS trajectory dataset. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The θ-subsumption test is known to be a bottleneck in Inductive Logic Programming. The state-of-the-art learning systems in this field are hardly scalable. Last year, we have created a distributed θ-subsumption process based on an Actor Model, with the aim of being able to decide subsumption on very large clauses. This model was correct and complete, but was also very slow. This is why we introduce ANTS (Actor Network based Theta-Subsumption), a new model also based on an actor network, which is significantly faster than the previous one. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper belongs to a research work that develops a deterministic actor framework in Java named Theatre, which addresses the modeling, analysis, and implementation of time-critical, cyber-physical systems. Theatre distinguishes from other actor systems by being control-based, time-sensitive, and centered on not thread-based actors. Although its main orientation to real-time embedded systems, Theatre can also be exploited for building high-performance applications on nowadays multi-core machines with shared memory. This paper reports an experience of performance comparison of Theatre with the Akka actor toolkit, through a parallel and scalable version of the Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma multi-agent system. Akka is a well-known library implemented in Scala and Java, which efficiently supports classical actors and it is best suited to untimed distributed applications. The experimental work confirms the lightweight nature of Theatre and its concurrent/parallel lock-free computational model, are also a key for achieving high execution performance, even better than that provided by Akka and similar toolkits, when large-scale systems are considered.

Araştırmamız literatür taramasına dayanmaktadır, In this article, the subject of “Shipyards and naval operations bases built and installed on the Eastern Mediterranean coasts of Syria-Palestine during the Umayyads and Abbasids” is discussed.

- Abstract
This study deals with land ownership and its transfer based on the size of the property and the natural and human factors of this small geographical unit centered on the coast of Akka with a surface area of 312 square km. The study begins with the first land surveys and the systemized registration of land in 1869 and ends with the departure of the British Mandate from Palestine in 1948. This study focuses on the important role that the natural and human features of its lands played in local, regional and international history, because of the fortress of Akka, which was a centre of leadership and rule and the first line of defense of Bilad al-Sham in the south. Its formidable walls have shaken the prestige of many a leader, governor and army and on its southern side lies the port of Haifa, one of the living veins of the world's economy. That is what made Akka a suitable terminal for caravans, rail, air and sea and a terminal for the storage, refining and export of Iraqi oil that passed through the Karkok-Haifa pipeline in 1933. Akka became a briskcentre for investment and local and imported labour and colonial penetration which threw its shadow over this period of its history in particular and over Palestine in general. Rediscovery of contemporaneous handwritten notes by Cambridge orientalist, Edward Granville Browne, of his historic meetings with Baha'u'llah, prophetfounder of the Baha'i Faith in Akka (St Jean d'Acre), Palestine, during his stay there - which lasted from his arrival on Sunday, 13 April 1890, to Browne's departure on Sunday, 20 April 1890 - significantly adds to our knowledge of those spiritual and momentous events. Given the fact that Baha'u'llah was to become widely regarded as the founder of a new world religion, Browne's published account of his 16 April 1890 audience with Baha'u'llah takes on added significance as a rare first-hand description by a distinguished contemporary from the West. Although well-known to those acquainted with Baha'i history, relatively little is known regarding the sequence of events. This article will draw from Cambridge manuscripts to add some new details, and will draw a fuller picture of what transpired by use of Browne's correspondence with Russian academics, along with known Baha'i sources judiciously compared with Azali sources. Together, a composite account of that historic encounter between scholar and prophet, Browne and Baha'u'llah, will be offered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neticede bu çalışmada XI. ve XII. yüzyıllarda Akka’nın idari bakımdan kimler tarafından yönetildiği, sosyal bakımdan şehrin sahip olduğu özellikler ve yapılan ekonomik faaliyetler anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır., Having been ruled by such civilizations as Phoenicians, Babylonia, the Roman Empire, Umayyad, and Abbasids for centuries, the city of Acre showed differences in terms of administrative, social and economic affairs up until the 11th century. Beginning with its conquest by the Fatimid Empire, this city came under the rule of a state ruled by Shi'ite Muslims towards the end of the 10th century. It was conquered by the Seljuk Empire in 1074 but remained under the Crusade’s power for two centuries following the Crusades.

STREET names , *HISTORICAL markers , *SYMBOLIC capital , *TOURISM - Abstract
Extensive research has been conducted on place names because they are one of the most significant markers of the intimate relationship between people and territory. Several studies on street names have already noted the use of place names as a form of symbolic capital in order to create and sell place distinctions for the purposes of prestige and profit. The literature, however, has not yet adequately addressed a different motivation in place-naming: the promotion of places for the purpose of tourism development. Furthermore, research in this field has yet to examine the ways in which local residents interpret and contest official street names with their own oral system of naming, focusing instead on the process of selecting and affixing place names and the cultural conflicts that arise from these political decisions. This article explores place-naming in the Old City of Acre (Israel) in light of tourism development processes, focusing not only on the motivations for the naming but also on the responses of local residents to the naming and to the struggle on the symbolic identity of the city that develop as a result. The first section of the article examines the historical process of bestowing official street names in the Old City of Acre as well as the existing system of place names used by the local Arab inhabitants of the Old City. The article's second section studies the reactions and attitudes of the local population in the Old City to the relatively recent initiative of the Acre Development Company to assign official street names, chosen in the past, to the streets and alleys of the Old City. - Abstract
Decision engines can decide from a certain input what the output should be. This is done in a table with columns for inputs and outputs and rows for a combination of inputs together with its corresponding output. A row is also called a rule. A simple program to decide such a decision table can easily be made, like Camunda. However, when the output of one table is also the input of another table and so on and the amount of rules get enormously big, the problem gets more complicated and Camunda takes a very long time to solve such structures. We created a decision engine in Scala that can decide the output when there are thousands of tables linked together in less than a minute with the help of Akka. Akka is an actor model, which means that it can create multiple actors, which each can perform a certain task. Actors can run in parallel, which speeds up the decision engine. Actors send messages to each other and an actor will only start working when they receive a message. The decision engine reads DMN files and parses it to tables. For better performance the decision tables get parsed into a tree structure with for every table the input tables are its children. In this way the decision engine is very quick in solving tables, however the parsing into trees still takes some time. This is not a big problem, since the parsing is only done once and the tree can be saved and the solving can be done very often. Also the deciding of a single table is improved, because we created our own FEEL-expressions that can decide the rules very fast. The result is that after a very large table with 50,000 rules is parsed, the solving that took Camunda 400 milliseconds only takes 9 milliseconds for the new decision engine and when the parsing is left out, the new engine is faster in computing 500,000 rules than Camunda with 1 rule. Also when the parsing is included in the time, the difference gets only bigger. For 50,000 rules, Camunda takes 20 seconds to parse the file and solve the

EMIGRATION & immigration , *JEWS , *JEWISH nationalism , *HISTORY ,MOROCCAN Jews - Abstract
This article provides an ethnographic and historical perspective on the migration of rural Jewish communities from the region of Sous, southern Morocco, to Israel in the early 1960s. Building on theories of the relationship between diaspora, homeland, and nationalism, and using ethnographic data collected among Moroccan Jews and Muslims from the region, I argue that even though the economic factors played a substantial role in persuading rural Jews to migrate to Israel, historical symbols of traditional messianic Zionism played a major role in the migration of rural Jewry. Unlike urban Jews who settled in different Moroccan cities after the Spanish Inquisition, Jews from Akka and other neighbouring hamlets have a particular view of history to which Zionism appealed. In this article, I use a historical narrative to argue that southern Moroccan Jews, whether their memory is based on supposition or fact, imagined their history as connected to Palestine. Accordingly, Zionists invoked these historical messianic symbols to which local rural Jews from Akka and other neighbouring villages subscribed to capture their political, religious, and national support. Henceforth, my contention is that although local and global social, political, and economic stresses in the first half of the twentieth century influenced this migration, the underlying cause is largely attributed to the imagined or real historical roots of these populations towards Palestine as opposed to the roots of Andalusian Jews. System architectures for data-centric applications are commonly comprised of two tiers: An application tier and a data tier. The fact that these tiers do not typically share a common format for data is referred to as object-relational impedance mismatch. To mitigate this, we develop an actor database system that enables the implementation of application logic into the data storage runtime. The actor model also allows for easy distribution of both data and computation across multiple nodes in a cluster. More specifically, we propose the concept of domain actors that provide a type-safe, SQL-like interface to develop the actors of our database system and the concept of Functors to build queries retrieving data contained in multiple actor instances. Our experiments demonstrate the feasibility of encapsulating data into domain actors by evaluating their memory overhead and performance. We also discuss how our proposed actor database system framework solves some of the challenges that arise from the design of distributed databases such as data partitioning, failure handling, and concurrent query processing.

Through its ability to share various resources, P2P networks have been in the focus of research for the last decades. Especially the utilization of search algorithms to retrieve the distributed resources in unstructured P2P networks is of major importance, since no global view of the network exists. This thesis addresses the need to evaluate and compare search algorithms for unstructured P2P networks with each other by using standard metrics. It provides two frameworks for systematic benchmarking and comparison of search algorithms in unstructured P2P networks. The first framework is implemented based on the Actor Model and the second one based on the Peer Model (a coordination based programming model). Both frameworks support easy exchangeability of search algorithms. The second goal of this thesis is to create a fully distributed search algorithm for unstructured P2P networks based on the collective feeding of bark beetles. Additionally, an already existing algorithm from a different domain based on the Physarum Polycephalum slime mold is adapted to fully distributed search for unstructured P2P networks. To achieve these goals the following methodological approach is applied. After an extensive literature research, the frameworks are first designed and afterwards implemented. As the next step, the two new search algorithms are developed and implemented into the frameworks. As the final step, both algorithms are benchmarked, evaluated and compared to four existing search algorithms: Gnutella Flooding, k-Walker, AntNet for P2P and SMP2P. Overall, Bark Beetle and the adapted Physarum Polycephalum algorithm show very good scalability regarding growing network size and load. In terms of absolute time, both algorithms show very promising results with only k-Walker having slightly better results for networks with high replication. In terms of success rate, Bark Beetle shows an almost equal good success rate as Gnutella Flooding, without having the same major drawbacks. Although the success rate for the Physarum Polycephalum adaption is very low for networks with small replication, it is significantly better for networks with high replication.

45. Extension of the behavior composition framework in presence of failures using recovery techniques and AKKA

- Abstract
Fault tolerance is an essential property to be satis ed in the composition of services, but reaching a high level of fault tolerance remains a challenge. In the area of ubiquitous computing, the composition of services is inevitable when a request cannot be carried out by a single service, but by a combination of several services. This thesis studies fault tolerance in the context of a general behavior composition framework. This approach raises, rst, the problem of the synthesis of controllers (or compositions) in order to coordinate a set of available services to achieve a new service, the target service and, second, the exploitation of all compositions to make the new service fault tolerant. Although a solution has been proposed by the authors of the behavior composition framework, it is incomplete and has not been evaluated experimentally or in situ. This thesis brings two contributions to this problem. On one hand, it considers the case in which the service selected by the controller is temporarily or permanently unavailable by exploiting recovery techniques to identify a consistent state of the system from which it may progress using other services or leave it in a coherent state when none of the available services no longer allows progression. On the other hand, it evaluates several recovery solutions, each useful in services malfunction situations, using a case study implemented with the aid of Akka, a tool that facilitates the development of reactive, concurrent and distributed systems., La tolérance aux fautes est une propriété indispensable à satisfaire dans la composition de services, mais atteindre un haut de niveau de tolérance aux fautes représente un défi majeur.

The ubiquity of data streams in different fields of computing has led to the emergence of Stream Processing Systems (SPSs) used to program applications that extract insights from unbounded sequences of data items. Streaming applications demand various kinds of optimizations. Most of them are aimed at increasing throughput and reducing processing latency, and need cost models used to analyze the steady-state performance by capturing complex aspects like backpressure and bottleneck detection. In those systems, the tendency is to support dynamic optimizations of running applications which, although with a substantial run-time overhead, are unavoidable in case of unpredictable workloads. As an orthogonal direction, this paper proposes SpinStreams, a static optimization tool able to leverage cost models that programmers can use to detect and understand the inefficiencies of an initial application design. SpinStreams suggests optimizations for restructuring applications by generating code to be run on the SPS. We present the theory behind our optimizations, which cover more general classes of application structures than the ones studied in the literature so far. Then, we assess the accuracy of our models in Akka, an actor-based streaming framework providing a Java and Scala API.

Akabinde III. The Crusades; is the struggle to establish dominance of a series of military-political operations that began with the call of the papal and subjected to the East and West in Asia Minor for two centuries (1095-1272). As a result of this attempt which began with the First Crusade (1095-1101), Crusader states were established in Urfa, Antioch, Jerusalem and Tripoli. Together with these four states, some lands beyond Jordan, the Palestinian coastline and some part of the Syrian land have been captured by the Crusaders. On the other hand, Muslims who consumed their energies with their internal conflicts stayed in a defensive position against the Crusaders for a long time. The period of transition to counter-attack, which eventually began with the retake of Urfa by Imadeddin Zengi (1144), has gained new impetus when Nureddin Zengi united Syria. After that, order provided in Egypt by Saladin Ayyubi, the Crusader army which could not stand against the rising Muslim power by the combination of Egypt and Syria, was destroyed in the Battle of Hittin (1187). The wave of conquest after this victory, which resulted in Muslim forces returning all the settlements after, opened a road to the conquest of Jerusalem and led the Crusaders to lose their a century-old achievements. In response to this situation, the Christian world was not delayed. They responded with the Third Crusade. As in the beginning, the Pope has rekindled the holy fire in Europe and moved all of Europe into action. Then Germany, England, France, Sicily, Austria; noblesses, barons and knights of all nations joined the kings and princes of Palestine, Knights Templar and Knights Hospitaller to take back Jerusalem. As a result, the German emperor died, the kings returned, the aggressive and conservative knights were buried in Palestinian lands. Then, The Third Crusade ended on 3 September 1192 with the Treaty of Remle. The agreement was signed for three years 13 and eight months both on land and at sea. According to the agreement; Muslims and Christians would be able to freely travel and trade in the countries of each other and the city of Askalan would be destroyed. However, Salahaddin Ayyubi, put forth much more than the energy which he had spent for the conquest of Jerusalem, against The Third Crusade armies in order to protect it. He did not give back the city to them, that he was enthusiastically attached to Jerusalem. On the other side, Richard the Lionheart, who fought with all his capabilities on behalf of the West, had to return to his country without getting back Jerusalem, which he aimed for.
