A 6-year-old female nulliparous Dutch Rabbit ( Oryctolagus cuniculus ) was presented in shock status with a history of abdominal distention, inappetance, lethargy, polydipsia, diarrhea and weight loss since 2 weeks ago. There was no breeding history. Radiographic survey showed increased soft tissue opacity dorsal to the urinary bladder and ventral to the colon on the lateral view consistent with uteromegaly and severe intestinal distention resembling intussusceptions. Conservative treatment was failed and the animal died. In necropsy, ileocecal intussusception was noted as the main death factor. Thickened uterine endometrium in both horns was observed and the uterus was filled with mucoid fluid. Both ovaries were multilobulated and distended. On the other hand, a small cyst sized 1.5 × 2.5 cm was diagnosed on the liver surface. Several samples were obtained from lesions for histopathological evaluation. Histopathologically, dilated cystic glands of variable size lined by densely packed epithelium and hyperplasia of the endometrium resulting in irregular folds or papillar projection into the lumen were evident and the sections of ovaries revealed ovarian luteoma that composed of polyhedral cells with pale stained vacuolated cytoplasm, centrally located nuclei with distinct cytoplasmic borders and the cytoplasm of cells contain lipid droplet. The occurrence of biliary cyst adenoma was confirmed by microscopic examination of the mass that composed of multicystic space in different sizes lined by flattened to cuboidal biliary epithelium with papillary projections. These cysts were seperated by variable amount of connective tissue. The lack of postmortem investigations in aged rabbits reduced the incidence of neoplastic disease diagnosis in this species. Whereas uterine adenecarcinoma and lymphosarcoma were commonly reported in rabbits, luteoma and biliary cyst adenoma that are well described in this case report were uncommon in rabbit medicine.

Background: Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) is mosquito-borne filarial nematode capable of causing serious cardiopulmonary disease in canines and felines, and pulmonary dirofilariasis in man. This research was conducted with the objectives of determining the incidence and assessing possible risk factors of canine heartworm in the southeast of Iran. Methods: From October 2012 to September 2013, blood samples from 87 dogs from Zabol area in Sistan and Baluchestan and 33 dogs from Bam area in Kerman Province were examined for detection of Dirofilaria immitis using modified knott test and serology. Results: Out of 120 dogs, 29 (24.2%; 95%CI: 16.6-31.8%) were positive, serologically.The overall seroprevalence of D. immitis in dog in Zabol and Bam was 27.5%(95% CI: 24.7-32.5%) and 15.15% (95% CI: 12.3-20.7%), respectively. 28.8% of stray dogs and 20.6% of housed dogs in the study areas were seropositive. Seroprevalence of D. immitis was not significantly different between stray and housed dogs (P=0.295). Investigation of seasonal dynamic of infection with D. immitis in stray and housed dog showed that the proportion of infected dog in spring and summer was greater than colder season (autumn and winter) which was not significant.The prevalence of infection with D. immitis in >5 years old stray dogs (53.8%)was greater than other age categories while in housed dogs infection rate was greater in 3-5 years old (27.3%) . Conclusion: It is important to point out the increased incidence of canine heatrworm in Iran. In order to stop the spread of canine heartworm, preventive measures must be taken now.

Fizikselmuayenede yaygın lenfadenomegali ve dehidrasyon belirlendi.Periton içi hidrokortizon ve dekstroz uygulamaları yapılmasınarağmen hasta öldü. Nekropside bütün süperfisial lenfyumrularında önemli büyümeler gözlendi. Ancak mezenterik,dalak ve karaciğer lenf yumrularının normal olduğu gözlendi.Diseke edilen lenf nodülleri merkezinde nekrozlar tespit edildi.Histopatolojik incelemede orta derecede mitotik indeksli büyükveziküler çekirdek içeren lenfoid hücreler belirlendi. Mevcutbulgular diffuz büyük B hücreli lenfomalı non-Hodgkin tanısınıkoydurdu. Laboratuvar hayvanlarında deneysel lenfomalaryapılmasına rağmen hamsterlarda spontan lenfomalar çok nadirgözlenmektedir. During physical examinationgeneralized lymphadenomegaly and severe dehydration wasseen. Intraperitoneal dextrose and hydrocortisone was injectedbut the patient died. In necropsy, significant enlargements of allsuperficial lymph nodes were observed but the mesenteric lymphnodes, spleen, and liver were seemed normal. Dissected lymphnodes showed necrotized center. Histopathologic examinationrevealed lymphoid cells containing large vesicular nuclei withevident nucleoli which showed moderate mitotic index. On thebasis of these findings, a definitive diagnosis of non-Hodgkindiffuse large B-ceIl lymphoma was made. Experimentally inducedlymphomas have been reported in laboratory animals; however,spontaneously occurring lymphomas have been infrequentlydescribed in hamsters. This clinical report describes the clinicaland histopathological aspects of a spontaneous lymphoma.

Visceral leishmaniasis is an endemic disease in many parts of Iran and infected dogs constitute the main domestic reservoirs that play a key role in transmission to humans. The objective of this study was to assess the seroprevalence of canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in southeast of Iran. This survey was carried out from 2009 to 2011 in Kerman, Bam and Baft districts in Kerman province and Zabol in Sistan-Baluchestan province. Blood samples were taken from 201 dogs after complete clinical examination. Following hematological evaluation; collected sera were tested by indirect ELISA method for the presence of anti Leishmania infantum antibodies. Overall seroprevalence was 15.4 %, including 6.4, 3.5, 3 and 2.4 % in Bam, Zabol, Baft and Kerman, respectively. However, seroprevalence of disease was not significantly related to age, gender, presence of clinical signs and hematological disorders. Based to the results of the present study, CVL is endemic in southeastern Iran. Delayed diagnosis and euthanasia of potentially infectious animals may occur with an increased transmission risk to sand flies and subsequently to humans. Implementation of potent screening tests with high validity is essential for rapid detection and successful dog elimination programs in endemic parts of Iran.

This report describes the clinical and pathological aspects of an apocrine sweat gland carcinoma with distant metastasis in an aged dog. A 7-year-old male terrier dog was referred to small animal hospital of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman with a 5.5×3.5 centimeter pedunculated mass on its head near left auricular region which had been progressively growing since three months ago. The radiography showed no local and distant metastasis. Surgical excision and histological evaluation was done. Histologically, the mass was composed of epithelial cells arranged in glandular and solid patterns. The morphologic findings suggested either a primary or metastatic apocrine-gland carcinoma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were intensely positive for cytokeratin 7 and 20 and negative for S100 protein. On the basis of histopathological and clinical findings, the tumor was diagnosed as a malignant apocrine gland tumor, arising from apocrine sweat glands of the skin. Local tumor recurrence with anorexia and weight loss was reported by the owner nine month later. Severe submandibular and prescapular lymphadenomegaly was noted in clinical examination. Several large pulmonary nodules were noted in chest radiographs resembling mediastinal lymph node metastasis. Second surgery and chemotherapy was rejected by the owner due to grave prognosis of the patient. The animal was died 45 days later due to respiratory complications. Tumors of apocrine sweat glands are relatively uncommon in dogs whereas apocrine gland adenocarcinoma with distant metastasis is extremely rare.

Objective: Prednisolone and antihistamines are highly potent drugs in the treatment of atopic dermatitis and widely used in humans and dogs. In some atopic patients in which antihistamines, corticosteroids or other drugs have already been administered intradermal testing (IDT) may be necessary. The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of cetirizine and prednisolone on IDT results. Material and methods: Thirty healthy dogs (average age 5.9 +/- 0.6 years) were randomly assigned to three groups. Treatment groups were administered prednisolone (1 mg/kg BW daily, tapering dosage; group I), cetirizine (1 mg/kg BW daily; group II) and placebo (group III) respectively for one week. In the second week, none of the dogs received any medications. IDT was performed prior to drug administration and results obtained were considered as the baseline response. Second and third IDTs were performed at the end of the first and second week, respectively. Results: In groups I and II IDT reactivity was reduced at the end of first week (p < 0.05). After drug discontinuation the reactivity almost returned to baseline at the end of the 2-week period, with the exception of the prednisolone group for D. farinae. Conclusion: Prednisolone and cetirizine have significant effects on IDI reactions and must be withdrawn by veterinary practitioners up to 2 weeks prior to IDT.
