This study is focused on proffering a sustainable option for managing plastic wastes and wood wastes by converting them into fuel briquettes. The plastic wastes (Polyethylene Terephthalate, PET, bottles) were pulverized without the labels and covers using a shredding machine while the wood wastes (sawdust) were collected from wood workshops in Benin City. The wood wastes were sorted using a 2mm mesh sieve to attain uniform grain distribution. The wastes were mixed in varying proportions of plastic to sawdust in ratios 50:50, 60:40, 40:60 respectively which were then binded with an aqueous starch. The mixture was compacted into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes that served as moulds to form briquettes. These briquettes were left to sun-dry to produce Sample A, Sample B, and Sample C respectively. The samples were analysed to ascertain their combustion and physicochemical properties. The results obtained show that Sample C had the highest calorific value of 13.95MJ/Kg, Sample A had 13.17MJ/Kg while Sample B had 6.04MJ/Kg. The results show that the quantity of sawdust in each sample probably contributed greatly to the calorific value of each sample. With such reasonably high calorific value, it can be concluded that can serve as fuel for energy generation and by extension contribute to the sustainable management with plastic wastes and wood wastes

The most widely accepted authentication method involves the use of a personal identification number (PIN). This method is applicable across many technologies, of which one of which is Unstructured Supplementary service data (USSD). USSD is a capability built into Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) mobile phones. In some third-world countries like Nigeria, this technology is used in carrying out financial transactions. It has been observed that while carrying out banking transactions using this technology, users' PIN entered for authentication appears in plain text on the mobile interface, thereby subjecting it to shoulder surfing attacks. Findings revealed that users' PIN appears in plain text because USSD technology is designed to convey only textual data. That is why many existing authentication methods against Human shoulder surfing attack which contains features like images, colors, or graphical password, that can provide security to users' PIN on mobile interface are not implemented on the USSD channel. This research is, therefore, on the design of a new authentication method that can provide security to users’ PIN at the mobile interface, against shoulder surfing attacks which can be implemented on the USSD channel. In this method, the challenge response approach is adopted to provide a secure PIN entry method in the presence of a human shoulder surfer, using the Randomization obfuscation method that randomly places the user's chosen PIN within randomly generated 10-digit numbers, in Left to Right order. For further security, the model designed named “Mobisafe” include features like; Bag of Soft Biometrics (BoSB) details and one-time password (OTP).

Background Uterovaginal prolapse occurs when damaged connective tissues allow the uterus to drop into the vagina. Rare in children, uterovaginal prolapse can occur as a result of violent sexual assault. This case is being reported because there has been no previous report of acquired pelvic organ prolapse following trauma suspected to be sexual abuse in a child in our setting. Case presentation Two-year-old female presented to our hospital with a 3-day history of abnormal protrusion from the vagina and a 2-day history of bleeding per vagina. Traumatic rupture of the hymen was observed. The urethra was not edematous or hyperemic. The reduction was done successfully under sedation and maintained using a crepe bandage. There was no recurrence after 3-month follow-up. Conclusions Uterovaginal prolapse presenting among children below 5 years is rare. If bleeding per vagina is reported in a child, the clinician should be aware of the possibility of uterovaginal prolapse.

The study examined the relevance of the statement of cash flow in the measurement of Business performance. The methodology used is a review of relevant and extant literature, First Bank share prices from 2012 -2021 after which a conclusion was made. Statement of cash flow has been a subject of debate among scholars due to some limitations in the preparation of cash flow statements. It was revealed that First Bank share prices that rose from all-time low in 2015 and 2016 to a sudden upsurge in 2018 is a reflection that the share prices did not reflect the intrinsic value of the firm. The information in the financial statement was not adequate to guide the various stakeholders. Failure of First Bank to disclose Central Bank of Nigeria forbearances, amount to material misrepresentation and led to a bubble of the share prices. The quick pick-up of the share prices after the sacked of FBN management is evidence of some investors ' belief in the bubble share prices.

The study examined diaspora remittances and the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Benin-City. The objective of the study is to establish the impacts of diaspora remittances on the development of SMEs in Benin- City. The survey approach involved an online study. The major sources of data used were primary and secondary data. The primary data were elicited through the use of an online questionnaire. The data were analyzed and presented using a statistical technique such as tables and percentages. The secondary data adopted a longitudinal research design covering the period 1991-2018, which is readily available in World Bank data. The technique adopted is multiple regressions to test the hypothesis. E-view econometric software 8.0 was used for the analysis. The result revealed that in the long run, migrant remittance (MRI) and exchange rate (EXCR) which is a supporting variable have a positive and significant impact on the development of small and medium enterprises (DSMEs) in Nigeria. The result also revealed that most diaspora remittances are on consumption. Based on the above findings, it was recommended that the government should develop a policy framework that will harness the effort of diaspora toward the development of the economy of the state, and Edo state government should collaborate with agencies in charge of remittances to remove all encumbrances to remittances to encourage the diaspora to improve on their remittances.

Aims: To reveal the pattern and trend of cancer in a predominantly rural population in Nigeria and compare the findings with those of earlier researches across the world. Study Design: A descriptive retrospective analysis of all cancer cases seen among surgical specimens in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital. The cancer cases are classified according to the organ/tissue involved and the data obtained were analysed using SPSS (version 25). Place and Duration of Study: The Department of Anatomic Pathology, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Nigeria; between January 2011 and December 2020. Results: A total of 9,058 histologic samples were reviewed out of which 1,474 (16.27%) were cancer cases. The yearly number of cancer cases increased from 85 in 2011, to 258 over the next 10-year study period. At variance with WHO 2020 GLOBOCAN worldwide estimates, the common cancer types seen in this study (both sexes combined) were prostate cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer and non-melanoma skin cancer, in decreasing frequencies. The peak age of occurrence was the 7th decade while the mean age was 54.21 years, and the gender-specific mean ages for males and females were 59.92 years and 49.44 years respectively. The male to female ratio was 1:1.2 and males are more likely to be diagnosed of cancer approximately 10 years later than their female counterparts. Conclusion: Many of the findings in this study are similar to those of previous researches across the country. It is our hope that the findings in this study would contribute to national data and be found useful in efforts to build a more inclusive and robust national system of cancer registration.

The periodic determination of the degree to which coroner's postmortems done for medicolegal purpose turns out to be natural death is desirable because of its usefulness to health administrators in making policies that may ultimately help in focusing on the prevention/management of the causes of natural death at that particular point in time.The objective of the study was to determine the causes of natural death by a retrospective analysis of coroner's postmortem cases carried out on patients ages 19 years and above who died from natural causes.A 3-year period, retrospective postmortem study was carried out at the Department of Anatomic Pathology, University of Benin Teaching Hospital on 530 medicolegal postmortem cases ages 19 and above who died from natural causes.Natural deaths were observed in 530 cases of medicolegal postmortems. Their age ranged from 19 years to 104 years with a mean age and standard deviation of 52.82 ± 16.71 years. Cardiovascular system diseases were the most common causes of natural deaths with hypertensive heart disease being the most common underlining cause. Infections and diseases of the respiratory, gastrointestinal system/hepatic, central nervous and endocrine systems were also noteworthy.Most causes of natural deaths were in the middle ages with the noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) accounting for a significant proportion. To reduce premature death from NCDs by 2030, the World Health Organization (WHO) is promoting its prevention and management. It is our desire that our health administrators would adopt this WHO model incorporating postmortem-based data for planning of medical services.

This study investigated the anaerobic co-digestion of cow dung and food waste for biogas the production. A fixed-dome biogas digester was constructed using a modified Gobar digester design. The developed digester has a capacity of 6m3 with a retention time of 40 days. The entire biogas plant was constructed using reinforced concrete. The digester was charged with 100 kg blend of cow dung (CD) and food waste (FW) daily, mix with water in a ratio of 1:1:2 and the produced biogas ws collected using a 5m3 gasbag. Biogas production commenced after the 7th day of charging the digester with substrate. Performance test was done on the produced biogas to determine its composition and burnability. The percentage composition of produced biogas revealed a methane (CH4) content of 59.689%, carbon dioxide (CO2) content of 32.734% and nitrogen (N2) content of 7.547%. The biogas burnt with a stable blue flame during the burn test. The biogas was deployed for cooking purposes using a cook stove in a staff food restaurant. This study is relevant for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthening of the bio-based economy with regards to energy security and solid waste management. This can promote environmental and socio-economic sustainability and contribute to reducing carbon footprint of solid waste accumulation.

The broad objective of this paper is to determine the nature of relationship that exists between supply chain management and performance of brewing firms in South-South, Nigeria. Specifically, this study seeks to ascertain the extent of relationship between agile supply chain and organizational innovation. The study was fastened on Ludwig von Bertalanffy systems theory of 1950s. Survey research design was adopted for the study, a total population of two hundred and forty-eight (248) was used for the study. Census sampling method was used for the study because the population is a manageable size. The data collection tool employed by the researcher was the questionnaire, while the analysis of the data was done using the linear regression analysis. A thermodynamic equilibrium model for air‐gasification of wood wastes in fixed-bed downdraft gasifier was developed using Aspen (Advanced System for Process Engineering) Plus based on minimisation of Gibbs free energy. The synthesis gas (syngas) composition predicted by the model was found to be in fair agreement with measured syngas composition from experiments with similar gasifier type and biomass. The validated model was used to carry out sensitivity analysis to study the effect of gasifier temperatures, air-fuel ratios and wood waste moisture levels on syngas quality (composition and energy content). The various parameters investigated were observed to affect the syngas quality significantly.

Aims: To carry out experimental study of the energy potential of some tropical wood species. Study Design: It involved sample collection, experimental analysis and numerical validation of the obtained calorific values. Place and Duration of Study: National Centre for Energy Research and Development (NCERD), University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria between November 2016 and September 2018. Methodology: Wood waste (saw dust) from ten (10) selected tropical wood species sourced from sawmills in Benin City, Nigeria were subjected to proximate analysis, ultimate analysis as well as energy content study. Results: Thermal conversion characteristics of low ash content (0.2 – 2.76%), very high volatile matter (87.51 – 90.94%), low moisture content (8.62 – 10.53%.), relatively high carbon, hydogen and oxygen contents as well as low nitrogen and sulphur contents were observed. Obtained calorific values were validated using three already existing correlations. Conclusion: Among the 10 species studied, Afzelia africana (Apa) was found to be best suited for energy generation while Triplocyton scleroxylon (Obeche) was found to be least suited.

The study examined corporate social responsibility on financial performance of banks in Nigeria by using earning per share, gross earning and profit after tax as measures of financial performance of banks in Nigeria. The study design was ex-post-facto. Pearson correlation and simple regression analysis were the major statistical tools used for the analysis through the application of SPSS version 20.0 and E-View 8.0 software packages. Correlation results showed that whereas the relationship between corporate social responsibility and earning per share was positive but insignificant, it showed strong, positive and significant relationships with gross earning and profit after tax respectively. Similarly, corporate social responsibility expenditure was found to have insignificant effect on earnings per share, it has significant effect on gross earning and profit after tax of the banks in Nigeria. The study recommends among others that corporate organizations should endeavor to give more to the society in CSR and leverage it to enhance the financial performance of their businesses in the country.

AimsWithin the United Kingdom, there has been differential attainment in academic performance and career progression between International Medical graduates (IMG) and UK medical school graduates. Reasons reported for these differences include; poor relationships with trainers, cultural differences, and inadequate support. To close this differential attainment, effective interventions to support IMGs are indicated. This need for diversity led to the creation of the Association of Black Psychiatrists-UK Tutorial group (The-Tutors). The Tutors is a free online CASC preparatory group that started about 2-years ago and is tailored to meet the specific needs of black doctors sitting the Royal College of Psychiatrists examination. over 100-black Doctors have benefited from the group. This study was conducted to evaluate the experience of these doctors.MethodsThe sampling frame was the population of doctors who attended The-Tutors before sitting the CASC examination. Data were collected on socio-demographic characteristics, past psychiatry training experiences, and participants' experience toward preparation and passing CASC.An online questionnaire was completed and this was distributed through social media (closed WhatsApp groups).Responses were anonymous.ResultsTotal participants were 33, out of which 20 (60.6%) had passed the CASC examination while 13 (39.4%) are still awaiting results.The majority (51.5%) of the participants had only international training in Psychiatry, 27.3% had their training in the UK, and 12.1% had both, while 9.1% had no formal-psychiatric training.Most 21(63.6%) participants indicated that the group was ‘extremely useful’ for CASC preparation.In terms of comparing experience in this group with other CASC preparatory groups, all the respondents found The Tutors group more helpful; 16(48.5%) indicated that the group was ‘extremely helpful’, 14(42.4%) ‘very helpful’ and 9.1% “moderately helpful”.Most of the participants (75.8%) indicated that they were “extremely likely” to recommend the group to others.The majority (>65%) of respondents reported that The-Tutors helped in improving their knowledge, communication skills, confidence approaching the examination, and motivation to study.Close to half (48.5%) of participants who had passed the CASC examination indicated that The-Tutor was “extremely helpful” toward their success.ConclusionThis study has shown positive experiences of IMG especially of Black ethnic group attending an all- Black-led CASC preparatory group. This could be an indication that support groups specifically targeted toward the needs of IMG could help lead to an increase in success rates in UK examinations.
