Growing awareness of health and hygiene has increased the demand for bioactive or antimicrobial textiles. As a result the global market of antimicrobial textile products has been growing day by day. Antimicrobial finishing protects the wearer from microorganisms for aesthetic, hygiene, or medical reasons and protects the textile from biodeterioration caused by mold, mildew, and fungi. Antimicrobial textile products have crucial functions such as ensuring hygienic conditions and preventing spread of diseases especially crowded places like hospitals, baby nurseries, and barracks. However the antimicrobial agents used in antimicrobial finishing have adverse effects (toxic, allergic, and carcinogenic) on wearer and all the living organisms during the antimicrobial textile product’s production and serving life. The effects of finish content released in waste water bath and the release of finish content to surrounding skin of user and its contact/inhalation/consumption by other living species require studies. The contamination substances in the sludge may be consumed by the cultivated plants, eventually becoming component in feed and food. Contamination is also possible in water and soil organisms. The chapter is about the waste problem of the antimicrobial finishing (especially metal-based antimicrobial finishing and triclosan-based antimicrobial finishing).

In the study it was aimed to print cotton fabrics with natural dye sources to respond the demands on the natural products andcleaner production. For this purpose, bleached, bleached and mercerized cotton fabrics were colored by pigment printing method withthe use of the extracts obtained from the five different natural dye sources “pomegranate peel, nutshell, orange tree leaves, alkanet rootsand dyer's chamomile". By this way it was planned to show the coloration of cotton with natural dye sources. For the environmentallyfriendly production, no mordanting has been applied but good colors with sufficient fastnesses were observed from the printed fabricsnonetheless. In printing process, binder was used instead of mordanting agents for the fixing of the dye stuff. Like in other dyeing andprinting processes, it was found that pretreatment processes had an effect on the printability of cotton with natural dyes. Bymercerization higher color efficiencies, darker shades and meanwhile increases in light fastnesses and decreases in washing andperspiration fastnesses were generally obtained., Bu çalışmada pamuklu kumaşların doğal boyarmadde kaynakları ile basılması sağlanarak doğal ürünlere ve daha temiz üretimeolan talebe cevap verilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Diğer boyama ve baskı işlemlerinde olduğu gibi, ön terbiye işlemlerinin pamuklu kumaşlarındoğal boyalar ile basılabilirliğine etkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Genel olarak merserizasyon işlemi ile yüksek renk verimlilikleri,daha koyu renk tonları ve aynı zamanda ışık haslıklarında artış, ve yıkama ve ter haslıklarında düşüş elde edilmiştir.

The problems of environmental pollution revealed the necessities of taking urgent precautions and tending towards the clean technologies for every branch of industry. Because the greatest part of textile finishing depends upon the wet processing and the chemical agents used are given to the environment without recycling, the works about clean technologies gained vital importance. The same problems occur in the wool finishing, too. Ozone usage is started to be tried in the finishing of wool fibers as the others as a new and enviromental friendly technology. The reducing of water consumption in finishing processes is also a great advantage. In this research, the degradation of ozone to oxygen, because of its unsteady structure was used in pretreatment of wool as a bleaching process, Çevre kirliliğinin getirdiği sorunlar, tüm endüstri dalları için temiz teknolojilere yönelmek ve acil önlemler almak gerekliliğini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Tekstil terbiyesinin büyük bir kısmı sulu işlemlere dayandığından ve kullanılan kimyasal maddelerin çoğu geri dönüşümsüz olarak çevreye bırakıldığından, bu konudaki çalışmalar yaşamsal önem taşımaktadırlar. Yün liflerinin terbiyesinde de aynı sorunlar bulunmaktadır. Ozon kullanımı yeni ve çevre dostu bir teknoloji olarak, diğer liflerde olduğu gibi yün liflerinin terbiyesinde denenmeye başlanmıştır. Terbiye işlemlerinde su kullanımının azaltması da çok önemli bir avantajdır. Bu araştırmada, ozonun kararsız yapısından dolayı oksijene parçalanması sayesinde yün liflerinin ön terbiyesinde ağartma işlemi olarak kullanılması araştırılmıştır
