Abstract

A simple many-fermion system in which there exists N identical fermions in a single spherical orbit with pairing interaction is treated by means of the time-dependent variational approach with a quasi-spin squeezed state with the aim of going beyond the time-dependent Hartree-Fock or Bogoliubov theory. Abstract

With the aim of the extension of the TDHF theory in the canonical form in the Lipkin model, the trial state for the variation is constructed, which is an extension of the Slater determinant. The canonicity condition is imposed to formulate the variational approach in the canonical form. A possible solution of the canonicity condition is given and the zero-point fluctuation induced by the uncertainty principle is investigated. 7. Fermionic Squeezed State for Simple Algebraic Models in Many-Fermion Systems

Abstract

It is shown that a variational approach with fermionic squeezed states to many-fermion systems such as pairing model is one of useful methods beyond the usual Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation. A pairing-type quasi-spin squeezed state is constructed and adopted as a trial state in the variational method. By using this state, quantum fluctuations are taken into account. In pairing model, dynamical and static approaches are discussed in the context of comparing with the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation about ground state energy. Abstract

The su(2)-algebraic model interacting with an environment is investigated from a viewpoint of treating the dissipative system. By using the time-dependent variational approach with a coherent state and with the help of the canonicity condition, the time-evolution of this quantum many-body system is described in terms of the canonical equations of motion in the classical mechanics. Then, it is shown that the su(1,1)-algebra plays an essential role to deal with this model. An exact solution with appropriate initial conditions is obtained by means of Jacobi's elliptic function. The effect of photomask pattern shape for a counter-electrode on critical current (I(sub c)) uniformity and controllability in Nb/AlO(sub x)/Nb junctions is evaluated. Although no difference is found in the (I(sub c)) uniformity between square and OPC junctions, the OPC junctions exhibited smaller shrinkage in junction size than the square junction.

Abstract

Logic circuits based on Single Flux Quantum logic with Resettable Latch (SFQ-RL) have been designed. The use of SFQ-RL eliminates the influence of flux remaining in circuits at the initial state. SFQ-RL logic is made up of a latch (L)-gate, a copy (C)-gate and an or (O)-gate. The C-gate and the O-gate correspond to the splitter and confluence buffer, respectively, in RSFQ logic. Numerical simulations reveal that the bias margin of the L-gate is plus or minus 48%. The gateoperates normally with a bias margin of plus or minus 25.9%.

Abstract

Superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)-based non-latching gates were proposed for logic circuits. 3-junction SQUIDs was inductively coupled with radio frequency-SQUIDs to develop the gates. Numerical simulations reveal wide bias margins of up to +/-52%. The gate was successfully used to develop complicated logic functions through the input signal magnetic coupling approach.

Abstract

A high-critical temperature superconducting flux flow transistor (SFFT) with submicron structures is fabricated using focused ion beam lithography. The dependence of gain on weak link width is investigated. Results reveal an increase in gain as the weak link width decreases. Lorentz force generated by the net current also becomes larger and the average velocity of vortices increases. The characteristics of the SFFT are improved by using corrugation and submicron structures.

Abstract

A novel technique for the fabrication of high quality Nb/AlOx/Nb Josephson junctions is presented. The technique, called Focused ion beam Implanted Nb Patterning (FINP), uses reactive ion etching to pattern Nb films after the patterns are written on the films by focused ion beams. To demonstrate its viability, the approach was used in the fabrication of Nb/AlOx/Nb tunnel junctions. Results indicate that FINP is suitable for fabricating Josephson integrated circuits with submicron junctions.
