In this study, the content of Turkish YouTube videos as a source of information on diabetic foot care training and the presence of nurses in these videos were examined.A search was performed in the video sharing platform YouTube with the keyword "diabetic foot care" on 09.12.2020. From 200 videos, 87 were included in the study, and they were independently evaluated by two investigators for their usefulness, reliability, and quality.Of the videos, 8% were categorized as very useful, 33.3% moderately useful, 51.7% somewhat useful, and 6.9% not useful, while 4.6% contained misleading information. It was also found that the instructor was a nurse in only 12.6% of these videos.There is useful information about diabetic foot care on YouTube; however, there are also videos with misleading information. In addition, it has been observed that very few of these videos were prepared by nurses. In order to improve the foot care behaviors of individuals with diabetes, it may be suggested that professional groups, especially nurses who are primarily responsible for training and care, should create original, detailed, and interesting videos on appropriate diabetic foot care.

Objective: To investigate the hygiene behaviors of individuals during the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Method: During the pandemic (April 2021–September 2021), 439 adults were surveyed online via Google Forms, which assessed the individuals’ introductory information and hygiene behaviors as determined by the COVID-19 Hygiene Scale. Results: Out of the participants, 71.3% were female and 68.3% were 18–33 years old. The mean COVID-19 Hygiene Scale score of the participants was 94.62 ± 26.56. Individuals belonging to the 18–33 years age group had significantly higher hand hygiene scores than the other age groups (p < 0.05). Women showed a higher mean total and subdomain scores in the COVID-19 Hygiene Scale than men. A significant difference between the social distance and mask use and hand hygiene subdomains was observed (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The hand hygiene scores of the individuals varied by age and gender, whereas the social distance and mask use scores varied by only gender. Based on the above mentioned results, the nurses should focus on the individuals’ development of effective hygiene behaviors, and schedule and implement trainings according to the sociodemographic differences among the individuals.

© TÜBİTAKAnthrax, which is primarily a disease of herbivores, is known to infect many animal species. In order to break the cycle of anthrax infection, it is important to identify the potential hosts or reservoirs of its causative agent. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize Bacillus anthracis isolates recovered from a variety of hosts and environments during anthrax sporadic in the Kars and Kayseri regions of Turkey. For this purpose, a total of 23 B. anthracis field isolates obtained from human, cattle, sheep, dog, horse, puma, soil, and fodder were used. In addition, the Sterne vaccine strain was included. All B. anthracis isolates were confirmed via molecular tests using plasmid-based PCR and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. All were found to be positive for protective antigen (PA) and capsule (Cap) genes. The presence of two specific 16S rRNA positions (1139 and 1148) with nucleotide mismatches was used to differentiate between B. anthracis species in the Bacillus cereus group, which has a relatively high (>99%) 16S rRNA sequence similarity. All of our isolates, including the Sterne vaccine strain, were classified in the same 16S rRNA type (Type 6) that has been reported previously as being the predominant type for B. anthracis isolates.

In this study, we aimed to determine the presence of pulmonary aspergillosis by histopathological and microbiological methods in geese that are economically grown in Kars region of Turkey. Totally 150 lung tissue samples of geese, an average age of 9 weeks, which died between 2013 and 2020 and were brought to our department were included in the study. Following the systemic necropsy paraffin blocks were prepared from the tissue samples and stained with Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) in order to detect histopathological changes. In order to reveal the presence of Aspergillus fungi, Periodic acid–Schiff (PAS) staining was applied to the sections as suggested by Facepath company. The microbiological examination of the tissue samples was carried out by the standard mycological culture technique on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and by the phenotypical characterization of the emerged cultures. Various clinical symptoms such as difficulties in breathing, wheezing, weakness, anorexia, depression, diarrhea and nervous signs were recorded in geese. We observed large and small multifocal yellowish-white nodular structures in the lungs and air sacs macroscopically. In the histopathological examination of the lung tissues, we detected granulomatous structures with varying numbers and sizes. We diagnosed the Aspergillus agents in 20 (13.33%) of the tissue samples by detecting structures resembling typical tree branches in the middle of granulomatous structures with PAS staining. An identical positivity was obtained by the microbiological method and the emerged agent was solely identified as Aspergillus fumigatus with the growth pattern and macroscopic and microscopic morphological features. In conclusion, we found the presence of aspergillosis as 13.33% by histopathological and microbiological methods in geese which were brought to our department between 2013-2020. Based on these data, we concluded that aspergillosis is one of the most important infectious diseases among the goose deaths in Kars region of Turkey, Bu çalışmada, Türkiye'nin Kars ilinde ekonomik olarak yetiştirilen kazlarda pulmoner aspergilloz varlığının histopatolojik ve mikrobiyolojik yöntemlerle belirlenmesini amaçladık. Çalışma bölümümüze getirilen ve 2013-2020 yılları arasında ölen yaş ortalaması 9 hafta olan kazlardan toplam 150 akciğer dokusu örneğinden oluştu. Sistemik nekropsilerini takiben doku örneklerinden parafin blokları hazırlanmış ve histopatolojik değişiklikleri saptamak için Hematoksilen & Eozin (H&E) boyaması yapıldı. Aspergillus mantarlarının varlığını ortaya çıkarmak için Facepath firmasının önerdiği kesitlere Periyodik asit-Schiff (PAS) boyası uygulandı. Doku örneklerinin mikrobiyolojik incelemesi, Sabouraud Dekstroz Agar üzerinde standart mikolojik kültür tekniği ve ortaya çıkan kültürlerin fenotipik karakterizasyonu ile gerçekleştirildi. Kazlarda nefes almada zorluk, hırıltılı solunum, halsizlik, iştahsızlık, depresyon, ishal ve sinirsel bulgular gibi çeşitli klinik belirtiler kaydedildi. Makroskopik olarak akciğerlerde ve hava keselerinde irili ufaklı çok odaklı sarımsı beyaz nodüler yapılar gözlemledik. Akciğer dokularının histopatolojik incelemesinde değişen sayı ve büyüklükte granülomatöz yapılar tespit ettik. PAS boyaması ile granülomatöz yapıların ortasında tipik ağaç dallarına benzeyen yapıları tespit ederek doku örneklerinin 20'sinde (% 13.33) Aspergillus etkenlerini teşhis ettik. Mikrobiyolojik yöntemle özdeş bir pozitiflik elde edilmiş ve ortaya çıkan ajan, büyüme paterni ve makroskopik ve mikroskobik morfolojik özellikleri ile sadece Aspergillus fumigatus olarak tanımlanmıştır. Sonuç olarak 2013-2020 yılları arasında bölümümüze getirilen kazlarda histopatolojik ve mikrobiyolojik yöntemlerle aspergilloz varlığını % 13.33 olarak bulduk. Bu verilere dayanarak, Türkiye'nin Kars bölgesindeki kaz ölümleri arasında en önemli enfeksiyöz hastalıklarından birinin aspergilloz olduğu sonucuna vardık.

Bu araştırmada, Dehşet Yönetimi Kuramı içerisinde farklı mekanların ölümlü olmaktan doğan kaygı ile baş etmedeki rolünün araştırılması hedeflenmiştir. Bu amaçla, kişilerin kimlik ihtiyaçlarına odaklanan ev, sosyallik ihtiyaçlarının tatminine izin veren sosyopet mekanlar ve kültürün devamlılığına işaret eden algılanan kolektif sürekliliği yüksek mekanlar Dehşet Yönetimi Kuramı çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. İlk çalışmada evin, ölümlülük belirginliğinden doğan kaygıyı engelleme işlevi iki deney ile incelenmiştir. Deneylerde, açık veya örtük ölümlülük belirginliği yöntemleri ile ölümlülük düşüncesi aktif hale getirilmiştir ve katılımcıların tepkileri Sosyal İhlaller Ölçeği ile ölçülmüştür. Deneylerin sonucunda, eşik altı uyarım yöntemi ile ölümlülük belirginliğinin başarılı bir şekilde ölüm düşüncesini arttırdığı, ancak evin bu mekanizmada kaygı engelleme işlevi görmediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. İkinci çalışmada, eşik altı olarak ölümlülük belirgin hale getirilmiş ve katılımcıların iletişime izin veren (sosyopet) veya iletişimi engelleyen (sosyofüj) mekan tercihleri ofis, kafe ve sınıf tasarımları üzerinden incelenmiştir. Bulgulara göre, katılımcılar ölümlülük belirginliği ardından belirli bir mekânsal tasarımı tercih etmemişlerdir. Son çalışmada ise algılanan kolektif sürekliliği yüksek veya düşük mekanların, ölümlülük belirginliği karşısında ortaya çıkan kaygıyı düzenleyici rolü iki deney ile incelenmiştir. Birinci deneyde eşik altı uyarım yöntemi ile ölümlülük belirginliği manipüle edilmiş ve algılanan kolektif sürekliliği değişen mekan fotoğrafları gösterilmiştir. Ardından ölüm ile ilgili düşüncelerin zihinde ne kadar aktif olduğu Sözcüğe Ait Karar Verme Görevi ile ölçülmüştür. Ek olarak, katılımcılara Türkiye’yi eleştiren bir makale okutulmuş ve makale yazarını değerlendirmeleri istenmiştir. Algılanan kolektif süreklilik değeri yüksek mekanların, ölümlülük belirginliği karşısında kaygı engelleme işlevi sadece yazarın karakter özelliği sorusunda kendini göstermektedir. Bulguların tekrarlanabilirliğini test etmek amacıyla gerçekleştirilen ikinci deney, çevrimiçi anket yöntemi ile yürütülmüştür. Çeşitli kıyafet tasarımları üzerinde ölümü çağrıştıran fotoğrafların sunulması ile ölümlülük belirginliği sağlanmış ve mekanların algılanan kolektif sürekliliği manipüle edilmiştir. Kültürel dünya görüşlerine bağlanma ölçümü hem Türkiye’yi eleştiren hem de olumlayan makale üzerinden, makale yazarının sıfatlar aracılığıyla değerlendirilmesi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Aynı zamanda deneye, Türk kimlik ile özdeşleşme ölçeği eklenmiştir. Bulgularda, düşük kimlik aidiyetine sahip katılımcılar Türkiye’yi eleştiren yazar değerlendirmesinde, algılanan kolektif sürekliliği yüksek mekanlara maruz kaldıklarında yazarın değerini düşürme eğilimi göstermemişlerdir. Yani, Türkiye’yi eleştiren yazarın değerlendirilmesinde farklılıklara rastlanmazken, Türkiye’yi destekleyen yazar değerlendirmesinde Türk kimliği ile özdeşime bağlı olarak algılanan kolektif sürekliliği yüksek mekanların kaygı engelleme işlevi gördüğü gözlemlenmiştir. Tez araştırması kapsamında tamamlanan deneylerin sonuçları bir arada değerlendirildiğinde, kültürün devamlılığına işaret eden mekanların varoluşsal kaygılara karşı bir koruma sağlayabileceği söylenebilir., The current study aims to investigate the role of different places in coping with anxiety arising from awareness of mortality in Terror Management Theory. For this purpose, the home, which focuses on the identity needs of individuals, sociopetal places that allow the satisfaction of people’s social needs, and places with high perceived collective continuity were examined within the framework of the Terror Management Theory. Firstly, anxiety buffering function of home was investigated by two experiments. In the experiments, open or subtle reminders of mortality was used, and reactions of the participants were measured by Multidimensional Social Transgression Scale. Results of the studies revealed that subliminal exposure to mortality was successfully increased thoughts of death; however, home does not function as an anxiety buffer in the system. In the second study, subliminal exposure of mortality salience was conducted and the space preferences of the participants that allow communication (sociopetal) or obstruct communication (sociofugal) were examined through office, cafe, and classroom designs. It was found that mortality salience does not lead participants for specific place arrangements. Third study includes examination of anxiety buffering function of high perceived collective continuity places in relation to mortality salience by two experiments. In the first experiment, subliminal exposure of mortality salience was utilized, and then high and low perceived collective continuity places were presented. As dependent variables, death thought accessibility was measured by Lexical Decision Task and participants evaluated writer of the anti-Turkey article. Anxiety buffering function of the high perceived collective continuity places appears only in the question of the writer’s character evaluation. In order to test reproducibility of the findings the second experiment was conducted as online survey method. In the second experiment, mortality salience was conducted by presenting photographs evoking death on various clothing designs, and perceived collective continuity of the places were manipulated. After that, both anti-Turkey and pro-Turkey articles were presented, and participants evaluated the writer with various adjectives as a measure of cultural worldview defense. Besides, the scale of identification with Turkish identity was added to the experiment. Results indicated that mortality salience induction led low national identified participants less biased judgements of pro-Turkey writer. In other words, depending on the national identification of the participants, anxiety buffering function of the high perceived collective continuity places can be observed on pro-Turkey writer. However, the effect of mortality salience or perceived collective continuity places was not observed on anti-Turkey writer evaluation. When the results of the studies evaluated together, it can be said that especially historical places can provide a protection against existential concerns.

Amaç: Bu çalışma, Kafkas Üniversitesi Sağlık Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi jinekoloji polikliniğine başvuran kadınların toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine ilişkin tutumlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.Materyal ve Metot: Araştırma tanımlayıcı tiptedir. Araştırma örneklemini, bir üniversite hastanesinin jinekoloji polikliniğine 30.11.2017 ile 30.01.2018 tarihleri arasında başvuran, 15–49 yaş aralığında olan 350 kadın oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak, sosyo-demografik özellikler anket formu ve “Toplumsal Cinsiyet Rolleri Tutum Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen veriler, SPSS for Windows 17 paket programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde sayılar, yüzdelikler, en az ve en çok değerler ile ortalama, standart sapmaların yanı sıra; varyans analizi, bağımsız gruplarda t testi, korelasyon analizleri kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: Araştırmada katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 27,87±7,04 yıl ve evlenme yaşları 20,24±3,95’tir. Katılımcılar eşitlikçi cinsiyet rolünden ortalama 29,77±6,96; kadın cinsiyet rolünden 22,85±5,29; evlilikte cinsiyet rolünden 27,38±6,51; geleneksel cinsiyet rolünden 23,09±6,68; erkek cinsiyet rolünden 20,05±5,81; toplumsal cinsiyet rolü toplamından ise 123,15±20,97 puan almışlardır.Sonuç: Bu çalışma sonucunda; katılımcıların eşitlikçi cinsiyet rolleri tutumunu benimsedikleri; üniversite mezunu olanların, ilkokul mezunu olanlardan; çalışanların çalışmayanlardan; geliri iyi olanların, geliri düşük olanlardan daha eşitlikçi olduğu bulunmuştur. Anne, babası ilkokul mezunu olanların, üniversite mezunu olanlardan; eşi ortaokul, lise ve üniversite mezunu olanların, eşi ilkokul mezunu olanlardan; tanışıp anlaşarak evlenenlerin, görücü usulü ile tanımadan evlenenlerden; cinsiyet eşitliği hakkında eğitim alanların, eğitim almayanlardan ve cinsiyet ayrımcılığına maruz kalmadığını düşünenlerin, cinsiyet ayrımcılığına maruz kaldığını düşünenlerden daha eşitlikçi cinsiyet rol tutumuna sahiptir.

Listeriozis ruminantlılarda abortus, ensefalomyelitis ve septisemi ile seyrederek, önemli ekonomik kayıplara yol açan zoonoz bir infeksiyondur. Listeria'ların doğal rezervuarlarının toprak ve memelilerin sindirim sistemi olması, Listeria'lar ile gıdaların kontaminasyon ihtimalini artırmaktadır. Teknolojinin gelişimiyle birlikte daha hızlı bir yaşam tarzının benimsendiği toplumlarda hazır gıda tüketiminin artması, buzdolabı ısısında üreyebilen Listeria'lara karşı daha dikkatli ve kontrollü tüketimi gerektirmektedir.Bu çalışmada, Kars Merkez ve Selim ilçesine bağlı köylerde atık yaptığı bilinen sığır sürülerinde bulunan 250 inekten alınan süt ve vajinal sıvap örneklerinden oluşan toplam 500 örnek Listeria cinsi bakteriler yönünden kültürel olarak değerlendirildi. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) yöntemi ile yapılan izolasyon çalışmasında, LEB (Listeria Enrichment Broth) ve LSA (Listeria Selective Agar) kullanıldı. İzolasyon ve identifikasyon sonucunda süt örneklerinin sadece 2'sinden (%0.8) L. monocytogenes izole edildi. Sütlerinden L. monocytogenes izole edilen ineklerin ikisi de atık yapmıştı. Atık yapan 96 inekten, 2 (%2.1) L. monocytogenes izole edilmiş oldu. Çalışmada kullanılan vajinal sıvap örneklerinin 14'ünden (%5.6) Listeria spp. izole edildi. Bunlarında 7'si (%2.8) L. monocytogenes, 3'ü (%1.2) L welshimeri, 2'si (%0.8) L. seeligeri ve 2'side (%0.8) L. innocua olarak identifiye edildi. İzolatlara uygulanan PCR işleminde 16 izolattan 5 tanesinde pozitif sonuç elde edildi.Bu çalışma ile Kars Yöresi'nde, süt örneklerinden L. monocytogenes kültürel yöntemlerle ilk kez izole edilmiş ve tanımlanmıştır. Yoğun hayvan populasyonuna sahip yöredeki atık vakalarının L. monocytogenes infeksiyonu sonucu oluşabileceği ve atık yapan ineklerin, en azından belli bir zaman diliminde sütleri ve diğer akıntıları ile etkenleri çevreye saçabilecekleri görülmektedir. Hayvan ve insan sağlığı açısından önemli olan infeksiyonun ekonomik kayıplara da sebep olduğu düşünüldüğünde, koruma ve kontrol tedbirlerinin zamanında ve aksatılmaksızın uygulanması gerektiği kanaatine varıldı. Listeriosis, which is a zoonotic infection, causes abortion, encephalomyelitis and septicaemia in ruminants, leading to significant economic loss. The fact that soil and the digestive systems of mammals are the natural reservoir for Listeria spp. increases the likelihood that food contamination will occur. In developed societies, the faster pace of life and technological advances have resulted in increased consumption of processed foods, making it necessary to take more precautions against Listeria spp., which propagate even under refrigeration.In this study, a total of 500 samples of milk and vaginal swabs from 250 cows from herds with a recent history of abortion, from villages administered by the city of Kars and the town of Selim, were cultured for bacteria of the Listeria genus. Isolation was performed by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) method, using LEB (Listeria Enrichment Broth) and LSA (Listeria Selective Agar). The results of the isolation and identification process showed that L. monocytogenes was present in only two of the milk samples (0.8%), both from cows which had recently aborted. Thus, L. monocytogenes was isolated from two (2.1%) out of 96 cows with a history of abortion. Listeria spp. were isolated from 14 (5.6%) of the vaginal swab samples used in the study. Seven (2.8%) of these were identified as L. monocytogenes, three (1.2%) as L. welshimeri, two (0.8%) as L. seeligeri and two (0.8%) as L. innocua. Five out of 16 isolates were found to be positive by PCR.In this study, L. monocytogenes was isolated and identified in milk samples by the culturing method for the first time in the region of Kars. The findings show that L. monocytogenes infection may contribute to cases of abortion encountered in the region which has a large population of farm animals, and that milk and other excretions from cows which have aborted may spread the bacteria into the environment for at least a period of time. It may be concluded that, since the infection is important for both animal and human health and causes considerable economic loss, timely and rigorous prevention and control measures should be implemented in the region. 103

Sixty goose chicks, one day old, were randomly divided into 3 groups, each consisting of 20 animals: firstgroup (2.5 ppm aflatoxin); second (5 ppm aflatoxin) and control (normal diet). At the thirtieth day of the study, tissuesamples from kidney, liver, lung, heart, bursa of fabricius, intestine and brain were collected after the systemic necropsyand fixed in 10% formalin solution. Grossly, livers and kidneys of animals were pale and enlarged. In histopathologicalexaminations, some degenerative changes from hidropic to lipidosis and bile duct hyperplasia on liver sections,tubular epithelial degenerations on kidney sections were detected. It is concluded that aflatoxins cause to severetoxic effects in goose chicks in different doses., Bu çalışmada, her bir grupta 20 hayvan bulunan toplam 60 adet 1 günlük kaz palazları kullanıldı. Bu guruplardanbirinci ve ikinci gruba sırasıyla 2.5 ppm ve 5 ppm total aflatoksin içeren yem verildi. Üçüncü kontrol grubundakipalazlar ise aflatoksin içermeyen yemle beslendi. Çalışmanın 30’uncu günü bütün gruplarda kalan kaz palazları ötenaziedilerek sistemik nekropsileri yapıldı. Nekropsi sonrası alınan karaciğer, böbrek, barsak, dalak, bursa fabricius,akciğer, kalp, beyin ve beyincik örneklerinin yapılan makroskobik muayenesinden sonra, bu örnekler %10’luk tamponluformaldehit solüsyonunda tespit edilerek rutin doku takip işlemleri tamamlandıktan sonra mikroskobik olarakincelendi. Makroskobik olarak karaciğer ve böbreklerin soluklaştığı ve büyüdüğü dikkati çekerken, mikroskobik incelemelerdekaraciğerde hidropikten yağlanmaya kadar değişen dejenerasyon ve safra kanal hiperplazileri ile böbrektetubuler epitelyumda dejenerasyon gözlendi. Sonuç olarak aflatoksinlerin kaz palazlarında düşük dozlarda bile karaciğerve böbrek hasarına sebep olan şiddetli toksik etkiye sahip oldukları ortaya konulmuştur.

6. ÖZET Bu çalışma ile Kars ilinde ineklerde infertilite sebebi olabilecek genital organ bozuklukları ortaya konularak, klinik hekimlerine ve yetiştiricilere ışık tutmak amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada farklı ırk ve yaştan, 300 ineğin genital organları incelenmiş ve bunlardan 52'sinde (% 17,33) çeşitli patolojik bulgular tespit edildi, incelenen genital organlardan ovaryumda % 5.33, oviduktta % 2.33, uterusta % 10, servikste % 4.66 ve vaginada % 7 oranında değişik patolojik bulgular tespit edildi. Ovaryumda, % 2.33 oranında hipoplazi, % 0.33 oranında eksessiv anomali, % 1 oranında ovaritis, % 1 oranında folliküler kist, % 0.66 oranında luteal kist ve % 0.33 oranında parovariyan kist tespit edildi. Oviduktta, % 2.33 oranında yangısel değişiklikler görüldü. Uterusta % 10 oranında yangısel değişiklikler görüldü.Servikste, % 4.66 oranında servisitis görüldü.Vaginada, % 0.33 oranında Gartner kanalı kisti, % 0.33 oranında, bartolin kisti, ve % 6.66 oranında vaginitis görüldü. Bu çalışmayla Kars ilinde inek genital organ bozukluklarının yaygın olarak görüldüğü, ilk defa ortaya kunulmuştur. Bu bozuklukların yöre ineklerinde sıkça rastlanan infertilite sorunlarına ve dolayısı ile, ciddi ekonomik kayıplara neden olabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır. 26 7. SUMMARY This study aimed to investigate and identify disorders in genital organs which might cause infertility problems in cows slaughtered in Kars abattoir and to be of practical value to veterinary practitioners and animal breeders in the region. The reproductive tracts of 300 cows of different breeds and ages were examined and pathological changes were detected in 52 (1 7.33%) cows, as follows: in 5.33% of ovaries, in 2.33% of oviducts, in 10% of uteri, in 4.66% of cervices and in 7% of vaginas. The following pathological changes were identified in and around tho ovaries: hypoplasia (2.33%), excessive anomaly (0.33%), ovaritis (1%), follicular cysts (1%), luteal cysts (0.66%) and parovarian cysts (0.33%). In addition, inflammatory changes were observed in oviducts (2.33%), uteri (10%) and cervices (4.66%). In vaginas, 0.33% cystic Gartner's ducts, 0.33% Bartolin cysts and 6.66% vaginitis were observed. This is the first study to document genital organ disorders in cows in the province of Kars. Such disorders were found to be widespread and it was concluded that they contribute to the infertility problems frequently encountered in cows in the region and are therefore a source of serious economic loss. 27 37
