Patients having esophageal cancer can experience psychological, emotional, physical, social, financial and spiritual changes following surgery. Exploration of such challenges, particularly from the Patient’s perspective has been limited in Pakistan. Objective: To explore the experiences of post-esophagectomy patients admitted in Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar Pakistan. Methods: A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted on ten patients having esophagectomy admitted at Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. Participants were selected through None Probability purposive sampling technique. Permission was taken from concerned departments as well as from participants before data collection. An interview topic guide was used for Face-to-face individual, in-depth interviews. Audio recorded, transcribed, and analyzed through thematic analysis. Results: Five major themes were constructed i.e., Physical changes, psychological effects, social issues and support, financial issues, acceptance, and adjustment to a new changed way of life. Conclusions: Post-esophagectomy patients need full support in adjustment to their physical, psychological, emotional, social, financial, and spiritual aspects of life. Family, friends, and society could be an effective channel in this regard. Government should provide medical and financial support to such patients for their treatment as well as for their rehabilitation.

Psychosocial risk factors at nurse’s work environment are the major threat to the professional well-being and health of nurses. Nurses in developing countries like Pakistan are not appreciated and valued as greatly as compared to Western states which are evinced by their very low pays and poor work conditions. These can lead to different consequences like affecting work abilities and poor quality of life. Objectives: To evaluate psychosocial risk factors and quality of life among nurses working in public sector tertiary care hospitals of Peshawar. Methods: A cross sectional (correlational) study was conducted to assess relationship between “Psychosocial risk factors” and “quality of life” (QOL) among registered nurses at public sector tertiary care hospitals of Peshawar. Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire and WHO quality of life scales were used for data collection. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 23. Results: The mean age of nurses was mean 28.95 ±5.25 SD. In term of psychosocial risk factors, participants reported high mean score in all factors. Regarding quality of life, majority 63% reported having “Poor” while only 37% nurses have “Good” quality of life. There was negative correlation between quantitative demands, work pace, emotional demands, burnout and stress and offensive behaviours with participant’s quality of life (p-value 0.001). While positive correlation was observed between recognition, social support and quality of life among studied nurses. Conclusions: This study found multiple factors of psychosocial environment at public sector hospitals of Peshawar. The poor psychosocial environment has potential influence on overall health and quality of life of nurses.

Assessment of osteoporotic disease from the radiograph image is a significant challenge. Texture characteristics when observed from the naked eye for the bone microarchitecture of the osteoporotic and healthy cases are visually very similar making it a challenging classification problem. To extract the discriminative patterns in all the orientations and scales simultaneously in this study we have proposed an approach that is based on a combination of multi resolution Gabor filters and 1D local binary pattern (1DLBP) features. Gabor filter are used due to their advantages in yielding a scale and orientation sensitive analysis whereas LBPs are useful for quantifying microstructural changes in the images. Our experiment show that the proposed method shows good classification results with an overall accuracy of about 72.71% and outperforms the other methods that have been considered in this paper.
