In this study, three different biological methods—a conventional activated sludge (CAS)system, membrane bioreactor (MBR), and moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR)—were investigatedto treat textile wastewater from a local industry. The results showed that technically, MBR was themost efficient technology, of which the chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS),and color removal efficiency were 91%, 99.4%, and 80%, respectively, with a hydraulic retention time(HRT) of 1.3 days. MBBR, on the other hand, had a similar COD removal performance comparedwith CAS (82% vs. 83%) with halved HRT (1 day vs. 2 days) and 73% of TSS removed, while CAShad 66%. Economically, MBBR was a more attractive option for an industrial-scale plant since itsaved 68.4% of the capital expenditures (CAPEX) and had the same operational expenditures (OPEX)as MBR. The MBBR system also had lower environmental impacts compared with CAS and MBRprocesses in the life cycle assessment (LCA) study, since it reduced the consumption of electricityand decolorizing agent with respect to CAS. According to the results of economic and LCA analyses,the water treated by the MBBR system was reused to make new dyeings because water reuse in thetextile industry, which is a large water consumer, could achieve environmental and economic benefits.The quality of new dyed fabrics was within the acceptable limits of the textile industry., This research was co-funded by ACCIÓ (Generalitat de Catalunya) within the REGIREU Project (COMRDI16-1-0062)., Peer Reviewed, Postprint (published version)

Fer el projecte d'una instal-lació d'un anell d'aigua desmineralitzada per a una planta química., The project presented in this document deals with the installation of a ring of demineralized water in a chemical plant, including all phases of the project from its definition to the implementation based on the existing installation plant for water transport and modifying it to achieve all the requirements. For the realization of the project there are been followed the procedures of the company Henkel Iberica Operations, S.L.U. which is the owner of the facilities where the project has been implemented. Is part of the definition of the installation, as well as the design, the installation, the assembly, the startup and the monitoring of the operations and the transferring to maintenance and production departments.

In this work, the feasibility of polyvinylidene difluoride ultrafiltration membranes to treat textile wastewater was studied. The C.I. Disperse Orange 30 and C.I. Disperse Rubine 73 were selected as pollutant for the membrane filtration study. The results showed about 90 and 96% of COD decrease and dye removal, respectively. In addition, very low fouling was observed which demonstrated the feasibility of applying this type of membranes to treat textile wastewater. Finally, after the membrane treatment, 100% of the obtained permeate was reused. Fabrics dyed with the reused water were evaluated with respect to references carried out with softened tap water. El gran consumo de agua que se produce en todo proceso industrial y su posterior desecho, no siempre admitido en la Estación Depuradora de Aguas Residuales (EDAR), por alto contenido en Demanda Química de Oxígeno (DQO), hace que se replantee y busquen nuevas soluciones. La alternativa a la destilación por calor, generalmente acompañada con sistemas de vacío, filtrado, controles complicados; es la ofrecida por la destilación fría sólido líquido, que permite concentrar un fluido mediante técnicas de frio, en combinación con regulación hidráulica. Se ofrece así menor consumo energético, menor inversión y una instalación sencilla. Con este procedimiento físico, se consigue separar el agua contenida en el efluente, en forma de hielo por un lado y el concentrado por otro. La aplicación a las aguas residuales, procedentes de industrias de lavado u otras, ha sido uno de los logros de esta técnica, al ver que el agua retirada en forma de hielo estaba libre de impurezas y a la vez se obtenía el concentrado deseado. El reciclado del agua es otra de las ventajas.
